Speaker 1:MSU women's soccer secures number two seed in final game of regular season. The Michigan State women's soccer team wrapped up the regular season on a high, beating Nebraska one to zero with 24 points. The Spartans secured the number two seed in the big ten tournament, just two points behind number one at Washington. The lone goal was scored by redshirt junior midfielder Emerson Sargent. Her career best fifth of the season with an assist from junior forward, Kennedy Bell.
Speaker 1:Freshman goalkeeper, Noel Henning, made four saves, including a penalty kick to preserve the clean sheet. The final match of the regular season highlighted the players who stood out all year, each continuing to shine brightest for the Spartans. Nearly a 100 laid off through budget cuts, president says. Michigan State University shared Wednesday the clearest picture yet of the impact of its sweeping budget cuts. 99 positions, including faculty, staff, and executive managers, have been eliminated as of October 14, president Kevin Guskowicz said in a statement.
Speaker 1:Another 83 positions have been asked due to federal funding cuts. In total, 1.3% of MSU employees have been eliminated through the budgeting process and in response to federal actions since March 1. College and unit leaders were tasked over the summer with slashing 6% of their budget for the current fiscal year and another 3% the following after Guskowicz declared a pressing need to improve the university's financial health by reining in spending. As contributors to a recurring budget deficit, MSU has pointed to rising costs for employees' health care, inflation outpacing tuition hikes, as well as unbudgeted headcount and financial aid spending. Speaker 1:Michigan State men's soccer was back at DeMartin Stadium for their final non conference matchup of the season against Kansas City for senior day. The Spartans celebrated seniors Zach Kelly, Josh Adam, Josh Mason, Michael Sly junior, Ryan Van Diwinkle, Jack Gagamos, and Jack Spadafore after the match. In the first ever meeting between these two teams, it was Kansas City coming out on top, extending their win streak to five in East Lansing. MSU finished the month of October winless and extended a streak of their own as they now have gone four consecutive games without scoring.
