Tonight we welcome Jimmy Dunne to the show, who in the music world is known as Nogymx (no gimmicks). A prolific lo-fi producer who is out with his latest LP "Eien's Fable" next Friday, we were honored to welcome him to the show tonight for a world premiere taste of the record.

It is 20 hours past midnight and it’s time to get the weekend rolling, but we’re putting said weekend in sweet molasses and letting it roll out slow for this week. Danno here thrilled you’re tuned in whether live on the air or as you want it with the streamy stuff, on the mic as always between 8 & 10 on GFN from studio 2, GFN HQ in downtown Gwangju, how do you do? Very pleased to welcome a new local guest to the show tonight and get into the music for tonight’s presentation. Our guest artist selector is a lovely cat out of Galway in Ireland who’s now based in Cheongju called nogymx (sp.). True name Jimmy Dunne, he makes some amazing cinematic lo-fi beats and has a great selection of cuts coming up in parts 3 & 4 tonight. Next Friday sees his latest album Eien’s Fables drop in full, and we have a nice premiere coming up starting in part 3 to introduce you to the LP. Really amazing self-made artist here, and we’re so glad to rock some beats warming up here in the first hour and of course welcome him to the show later. So, we eschew the history for tonight, and we’re just going to roll into the study, chill, and relax vibes . THIS is The Drop.

The Drop has begun things on the lo-fi tip for tonight’s very special presentation. Danno here in studio 2, GFN HQ, downtown Gwangju, big up to all of you getting with the program. Our guest artist selector tonight is Nogymx, an artist out of Ireland born Jimmy Dunne who is based out of Cheongju nowadays.
Ever prolific on the production tip, Nogymx is out with a new album called Eien’s Fables next Friday, and he’ll join us in hour 2 for a playlist selection and a premiere of a few tunes off the LP. For right now, we’re beginning the warm-up, and kind of rubbing our hands in anticipation as we’ve been ready to do a lo-fi broadcast (or downtempo as the oldsters like me often call it). Nogymx has a bit of a bifurcated listening experience coming up in hour 2, with part 3 being a more cinematic and Asian-influenced selection of late night snacks, and then in part 4 it’s jazz and soul influenced joints.
Thus, we’re doing a mirror opposite kind of thing here in parts 1 & 2 with the jazzy bits first, then the East Asian drive-in movie makeout experience for part 2. So, we started with Flamingosis right there and a remix done by Loci called Enjoy Your Life, then it was Dirty Art Club and a joint titled Just A Memory.
As to the former, Flamingosis is named after a free-style Frisbee move his father invented back in the day, and he’s based in New Jersey. One of the most infectious groove artists out there right now if we may be so bold, and that remix is the latest on the discog. Very soul-influenced stuff, citing J Dilla and Flying Lotus as big inspirations.
As to Dirty Art Club, I don’t know much about this artist, and the bio simply says, “beats.” Which honestly, I was already aware of. I do know they’re based in Charlotte, NC…but beyond that, I got nothing. Good stuff tho, nice discography of work to check right there.

So to continue with things tonight, we are gonna go with a trio of cuts some of which just got cut for time from the Nogymx playlist later. Back on The Drop as we head towards the jump during quarter one of our nightly game of audio mirrors. Danno here, as per usual unusual, ready to welcome a lovely lo-fi artist based in Cheongju right here in Korea who calls himself Nogymx (sp.). The artist is out with a new album next Friday called Eien’s Fables, and we have a sneaky early spin premiere coming up in part 3 prior to joining us on the phone and showing us around musically. As to what just slow walked then quickly vanished, let’s get to the spectrometer…
xander. – Hold My Hand (…this is the latest from the artist, who’s based out of Boston. The artist says that their music is stimulated by vivid scenery and profound memories, while the output is focused on generating newfound feelings with every new track.)
pastels – Sundown (… this is a French-Polynesian artist based in London but not a lot else biographically going on. This is a lovely cut from an equally nice LP called Out of Office, which dropped last year in early June.)
Sleepermane & Aylior – Pebbles (…this is another artist with very little out there on the biographics but a very substantial following, with 1.6 million monthly streams on the spot with all the music, but the bio simply says “counting sheep” so we’ll let that and the music tell the story.)
Okay, so we’re gonna get old school with the beats to finish off part 1 tonight on our jazz-focused lofi Friday, and the spotlight is on a few artists involved in Mark Farina’s Mushroom Jazz mix series, which undoubtedly is a huge influence on where lo-fi is today. We’ll start with The Jazzual Suspects and a tune called This Beat, then we have Pepe Bradock in his Trankilou guise and a tune called Chicago Babe, finishing with Something Funky from noneother than Pete Rock, without whom honestly none of this stuff would be going on tonight. This is The Drop Out of Office and dreaming away on your Nogymx Friday night.

You might have noticed that slowmobius is most certainly working his powers on the playlist tonight, and we’re keeping it lofi for the entirety of the show tonight. Nogymx & Tenno - Yearning ( …these were a pair of cuts slotted to start part 3 tonight but we had to move em out to get the premiere in. Warmth of the Rain was put out as a standalone earlier this year. After that, Yearning was our 2nd tune in the block, and that was off the duo’s collab album which dropped in June called Beauty in the Ruins.)

So to move along here as we continue with the cinematic Asian-influenced sounds of lo-fi here in part 2, we have Timbeauthetraveler up next to be followed by Onra, Monster Rally, Rainu AND Vindu, and that’s a lot of names but it’ll feel like a figment of deep memory once it’s through with the swerve. Back on The Drop for tonight’s lo-fi special. Danno here, very excited to welcome a guy out of Ireland based here in Korea who is a prolific lo-fi producer who calls himself Nogymx. Timbeauthetraveler & Kyefii – Koto Memories (…Timbeau is an artist out of Belgium who turned losing his corporate job in 2020 into a self-made music career. The artist now has over 2 million monthly streams going just on the spot, with this cut dropping earlier this year.)
Onra – Ms. Ho (…this is an artist with a big profile who is based in France. This tune appeared on an album of lo-fi hip-hop beats all centered around Asian samples and instrumentation called Chinoiseries, and this appeared on pt 2 of that album epic which came out in 2011.)
Monster Rally – Ginger on the Wind (…one of our faves out of Cleveland right here, and if Ted Feighan is not in the tropical heat, he’s in Asia with his beats. This tune came out on the artist’s 2019 classic Adventures on the Floating Island.)
Raimu & Tophat Panda - Kaigan (…this is an artist that centers their entire sound around Asian influences musically, with this tune appearing on a really slick lo-fi compilation album from last year called Soothing Breeze.)
Vindu – Sacred Forest (…inspired by the Jedi Ace Windu, this artist has been around since 2016 and was mainly influenced by Avicii and the EDM sound, but as you could hear right there, Vindu has a diverse palette having been in the game since 2016.)
Okay, so that was more than I bargained for verbally so let’s get to the final two cuts of the first half and bump up the bpm’s ever so gently for the closing pair. Up next is Ahmed Malik with a joint titled Autopsie d’un complot and we’ll finalize the audio idea heading into the halftime jump with Teebs and tune called simply Shells.
