What is ...But God?

A weekday morning devotional series written by Aaron Marcarelli and hosted by Chad McBeam

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal; for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
Matthew 6:19-21 NASB2020
These verses refer to physical treasures as well as spiritual ones. Anything that we hold higher than God or that takes away from our time with God is a treasure that we are storing up here on earth. Yes that could be $ or the making of $ through our jobs. It could be putting a higher priority on raising our kids or our grandchildren. It could be working out or dieting. It could be food or the next meal. Everything and Anything that we put above seeking the will of God, through prayer and supplication is putting our treasure above God’s.
Therefore we must pray and seek God all day and every day.
My friend Brad sent me this in regards to prayer.

“How to Pray
by Nicky Gumbel

Prayer is the most important activity of your life. It is the main way in which you develop a relationship with your Father in heaven. If you love someone, naturally you will want to spend time in their presence communicating with them. Like any relationship, communication can take many different forms. Lancelot Andrewes (1555–1626), was one of the great theologians and preachers of his day. After he died, his private notebook on prayer was discovered and published. In it he had written two lists: First, he wrote a list of *times* of prayer in the Bible: ‘Always... Without ceasing... At all times... Three times a day... Evening, and morning, and at noon... Seven times a day... In the morning, a great while before day... At daybreak... The third hour of the day... About the sixth hour... The hour of prayer, the ninth... The evening... By night... At midnight...’

Next, he wrote a list of *places* of prayer in the Bible: ‘In the assembly... and in the congregation... Your closet... An upper room... A housetop... The temple... On the shore... A garden... On their beds... A desert place... In every place...’ There is no limit to the times, places and different ways in which you can pray.”

Powerful words for us ! Certainly things to work on in our prayer life. So let us store up treasure in heaven by seeking God and making time for Him. Jesus said again and again “But seek His kingdom, and these things will be provided to you.”
Luke 12:31 NASB2020

Lord, thank you for your incredible good gifts. The best of which is salvation through Christ and His; life, sacrificial death, resurrection and ascension. Thank you that we have redemption and our sins are eternally forgiven. Help us to submit to your authority and store up our treasure in heaven by seeking you first, all day, through prayer and supplication each and every day.
