And here's today's news from Rail Technology Magazine in association with Trans City Rail on Wednesday 17th April 2024. Network Rail, East Midlands Railway, and Govia Thameslink Railway are encouraging passengers to check their journeys before traveling as major engineering work to upgrade the Midland main line continues throughout April May. Engineers will be working across upcoming weekends to upgrade existing overhead line equipment south of Bedford and to continue installing new overhead wires between Kettering and Wigston as part of the multimillion pound mainline upgrade. The work will mean East Midlands Railway's new fleet of greener by mode trains will be able to operate at a 125 miles an hour and will mean faster, quieter, and more reliable journeys for passengers traveling between the East Midlands and London. To upgrade existing equipment, network rail teams will be working overnight between Bedford and Luton on Sundays throughout April May.

And throughout this coming weekend, maintenance to improve reliability will be taking place on the TEMSLINK lines through Central London. The work means there'll be no Cross London Thameslink services running between Saint Pancras and London Bridge or Sutton Wimbledon. Over the weekend of 18th 19th May, engineers will be continuing to install new overhead line equipment between Kettering and Wigston. Network rail teams will also be installing new switches and crossings, the specialist equipment used by trains to cross from one track to another between Radlet and Cricklewood. Regional transport in the Autenot region of Germany has taken the next step to becoming even more environmentally friendly.

Speaker 1:

That's thanks to the introduction of Siemens Mobility's Mario plus b battery hybrid trains. Initially running on routes between Offenburg and Bad Griisbach, the new trains are coming in to replace the diesel powered Rigoshuttle r s one before being gradually extended further across the network. The Miro b is a battery electric multiple unit train that produces no emissions in order to continue the drive to decarbonize rail travel. Alongside climate benefits, the trains are also extremely quiet, making travel more comfortable for the passenger and the surrounding area. And 3 Southwestern Railway Professionals are running in this year's TCS London marathon for the Samaritans after the organization was chosen as the event's official Charity Partner of the Year.

Speaker 1:

Data shows that 1 in 5 people in the UK experience suicidal thoughts at some point in their lives, while the Samaritan's answers calls every 10 seconds. Gemma Dede, a train driver, Mel Rapany, HR business partner, and James Stern, duty control manager at SWR, will be the 3 running. All of them want to raise awareness of the Samaritan service and signpost how important using them is. And that's the latest.
