Let's hit the news bulletin. Bruno Fernandes is the big story. The Manchester United midfielder suffered a hamstring injury against Aston Villa, coming off at half-time. With an unknown return date and United facing Newcastle on Boxing Day, over one million managers have already shipped him out. David Moyes confirmed Harry Wilson picked up a knock against Nottingham Forest but is seventy-five percent likely to play against West Ham. Fulham face West Ham away, a decent fixture. Verdict: Hold. Unless you desperately need the transfer, wait for confirmation.
Ibrahima Konaté rounds out the list at five point four million pounds. Just one point against Spurs hasn't helped his case. Konate has sixty-two total points but only three point five percent ownership, so he's not a mass transfer out. Five clean sheets this season, but Liverpool's defence looked shaky at Spurs. With Wolves at home next, where Liverpool should dominate, defensive returns are likely. Verdict: Keep. Liverpool's fixtures are strong, and rotation risk is minimal.
Differential picks time. Matheus Nunes at five point four million pounds with two point two percent ownership. The Manchester City defender scored eight points in Gameweek Seventeen with a clean sheet and two bonus against West Ham. Six clean sheets this season plus four assists makes him a genuine attacking defender. City face Nottingham Forest away on Saturday lunchtime. Forest are tough at home, but City's defence is finding form. Six point five expected points for Gameweek Eighteen.
Dan Ballard from Sunderland at four point seven million pounds. Four percent ownership, nine points last gameweek with a clean sheet and two bonus. Ballard has seventy-five total points with two goals and an assist from defence. Sunderland kept a clean sheet against Brighton and face Leeds at home on Sunday. At under five million pounds, he's incredible value for a starting centre-back in good form.
Matheus Cunha gets the final differential shout. Six point nine percent ownership at eight million pounds, but he announced himself at United with a goal and two bonus on debut. Nine points playing the full ninety minutes. United host Newcastle on Boxing Day evening, the first fixture of Gameweek Eighteen. Cunha's got three goals this season already for United and looks central to their attack. Five expected points might be conservative given his immediate impact.
Captaincy pick: Hugo Ekitiké is the standout captain for Gameweek Eighteen. Wolves away at Anfield is a dream fixture. Liverpool are dominant at home, Wolves shipped goals against Brentford, and Ekitiké is in red-hot form with eight goals this season. Seven point nine expected points makes him the safest captaincy option this gameweek.
One key tip: Don't ignore the Friday deadline. Gameweek Eighteen starts Friday evening at eight o'clock with Manchester United against Newcastle. If you're planning transfers involving players from those teams, you need them done by six thirty on Friday. Don't get caught out.
