Justin's brain

I've been scrolling Twitter again. A lot of it is driven by this desire (fear?) to stay current on what's happening with AI.

A lot of people feel the need to capture as much information as possible to get some sort of edge in this new economy that's brewing. Our fear is that if we don't, we're gonna get just bulldozed over.

A lot of folks are worried about losing their careers to AI. I think that feeling is justified. Like, if ChatGPT can edit your videos, you don't need Adobe Premiere or a video editor. In this example, AI eliminates the services side (which many of us depend on) and the tool side (software). It's concerning.

And unfortunately, it feels like the answer (in this new economy) is that you can't be average.

What is Justin's brain?

Hi, I'm Justin Jackson. Here, I'm sharing brief thoughts on building a better life, bootstrapping, improving society, growing older in tech, being a dad...

Justin Jackson:

So I'm kind of back on Twitter right now in that I'm reading a lot of Twitter posts. I'm not posting anything. And a lot of it is driven by this FOMO fear of missing out on what's going on in AI. And actually, probably even more so, just I think I think a lot of people are feeling this way. Just fear about AI in general.

Justin Jackson:

This feeling like we need to capture as much information as we can to get some sort of edge in this new economy that's brewing. And if we don't, we're gonna get just bulldozed over by this coming economic apocalypse. There's this feeling that AI is just gonna create havoc on the economy. And and part of it, think, is justified because we see AI taking jobs and categories. Like, if ChatGPT can edit your videos, you don't need Adobe Premiere, and you don't need a video editor.

Justin Jackson:

So it it eliminates two things. It eliminates the services side, which a lot of us have depended on, and it eliminates the software side or the tool side. And so it's just like, what are we doing here? It's concerning. And unfortunately, it feels like the answer, especially for people building businesses, is you can't be average.

Justin Jackson:

So so, you know, a lot of people have been sharing these, like, one shot product videos that Claude can make. They use animated kind of intro videos. And if you watch them, they're actually not that good. The timing's off. The pacing is weird.

Justin Jackson:

They're not that engaging. They use the same kind of text effects, so they're kinda jilted, stilted. But the truth is that, a product intro video used to signal something. It used to signal that you cared enough about the product launch until you were willing to spend a bunch of money investing in it. And yeah, if you can produce that in thirty seconds on Claude, that advantage is gone.

Justin Jackson:

So now producing a slick animated product intro video is just average. And if you're looking to launch your product or promote your product, that's not gonna help you stand out anymore. Marketing has always been like this, and business has really been always like this. The people who succeed aren't average. They're above average.

Justin Jackson:

And maybe one worry about AI is that it's going to force more people to be above average. Like, you used to be able to be average middle class and have a good life, and increasingly, the middle class is getting hollowed out. We're talking about a a k shaped economy now where, basically, if you're a have a company, you focus on, like, lower economic class, dollar giant, upper class luxury goods. So I don't know what to think about all of this. I think, again, AI content in tech right now is killing it because people are both excited and scared about this moment.

Justin Jackson:

But I do think for business owners and founders, the answer is the same as it's always been, for marketers too. You can't be average. And so if AI raises the bar on what average is, you just have to rise above that.
