President Donald Trump has thrown his support behind Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton in the Republican runoff for U.S. Senate, calling him “an America First Patriot” and “a true MAGA Warrior” who has shown “Loyalty to the Cause of Greatness.” In a Truth Social post, Trump praised Paxton as “a Fighter, and knows how to win,” while also calling Senator John Cornyn “a good man” but faulting him for being “very late in backing” Trump’s 2024 campaign. Paxton responded on X, saying he was “honored to have President Trump’s complete and total endorsement” and vowed to advance Trump’s “America First agenda in the Senate.” The endorsement comes just days before the May 26 runoff, after neither candidate won a majority in the March 3 primary, with polls suggesting the GOP nominee could face Democrat James Talarico in a tight general election battle.

Southern Baptist Theological Seminary President Albert Mohler Jr. says he will ask messengers at next month’s Southern Baptist Convention annual meeting in Orlando to amend the SBC constitution and explicitly bar member churches from “affirm[ing], appoint[ing], or endors[ing] a woman serving in the office or function of a pastor/elder/overseer, such as preaching to the assembled congregation.” In a YouTube video, Mohler said “the need for this is made abundantly clear,” arguing the change would end recurring fights by clarifying doctrine, much like earlier constitutional language on churches that “endorse or affirm LGBTQ lifestyles and activities.” Support has come from SBC presidential nominees Josh Powell and Willy Rice, who called the renewed push “encouraged” and necessary. A similar amendment failed last year in Dallas, winning 60.74% support but falling short of the required two-thirds majority.

Suffolk County Police are investigating a possible hate crime after a Sacred Heart of Jesus statue was beheaded at the Church of St. Mary in East Islip, New York. The church’s pastor, the Rev. Anthony Iaconis, said parishioners doing spring planting discovered the statue’s head “not too far away in the bushes,” adding they “didn’t realize the statue had been vandalized” until then. Security footage reportedly shows one suspect carrying out the attack. Longtime parishioner Regina Vavricka said, “I think everyone would be upset by it, whether you belong to this parish or not.” Iaconis called the incident “disheartening” but said he is not deeply worried for the community, adding, “they’re not in their right mind, and I just ask people to pray for them,” and told the suspect, “If you need help, ask for it.”

An ICE agent in Minnesota is now facing criminal charges after prosecutors say he shot a Venezuelan man during a January immigration operation in Minneapolis. Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty announced that 52-year-old Christian Castro has been charged with four counts of second-degree assault and one count of falsely reporting a crime in the shooting of Julio Sosa-Celis. Moriarty said Castro fired through the front door of a home “while standing alone in the front yard, under no physical threat or duress,” adding, “his federal badge does not make him immune from state charges.” The case sharply contrasts with the original DHS account from then-Secretary Kristi Noem, who called it “an attempted murder of federal law enforcement” and said the officer was “ambushed.” But later video reportedly contradicted that narrative, and acting ICE Director Todd Lyons said two officers appeared “to have made untruthful statements.”

The U.S. Supreme Court has declined to hear *John Doe et al. v. X Corp.*, leaving in place a lower court ruling that largely shields X, formerly Twitter, from liability in a lawsuit brought by two anonymous men who say the platform profited from their sexual exploitation as teens. The National Center on Sexual Exploitation, representing the plaintiffs, blasted the move. Chief legal officer Dani Pinter asked, “Does our country really allow corporations to commit federal crimes, like knowingly distributing child sexual abuse material, without consequences?” She warned, “Section 230 continues to stand in the way of justice,” and urged Congress to “sunset” the law. The 9th Circuit had ruled X was immune on some claims, but said the company could still face negligence and “defective reporting-infrastructure design” claims.

South Carolina has expanded its restrictions on transgender access to sex-segregated spaces in schools and colleges after Republican Governor Henry McMaster signed House Bill 4756 into law. The measure bars trans-identified males from women’s bathrooms, locker rooms, and sleeping quarters on overnight school trips, and allows lawsuits against schools that permit access or fail to post “clear and recognizable signage.” Noncompliant districts could lose 25% of state education funding. The bill passed overwhelmingly, 33 to 2 in the Senate and 96 to 19 in the House. Alliance Defending Freedom attorney Sara Beth Nolan praised the law, saying it “rightly prioritizes privacy and safety over ideology.” But ACLU of South Carolina Executive Director Jace Woodrum blasted it as “making life harder for a small group of students” and targeting “vulnerable kids” instead of solving “real problems.”

More than 30,000 people gathered in Minsk over the weekend for what organizers are calling the largest Evangelical event in Belarus’ history. Franklin Graham, leading the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association’s Festival of Hope at Chizhovka Arena, told the crowd, “Tonight you can experience a new birth, a spiritual rebirth through Jesus Christ,” adding, “Jesus didn’t come to condemn you; He came to save you.” Attendance topped 15,000 on both nights, with Graham saying believers came by “buses, trains and cars from every part of the country,” filling the arena, overflow space, and even areas outside. He called it “an amazing night,” saying “something like this has never happened before in the history of the country.” Nearly 700 Evangelical churches joined the effort, and more than 2,000 Bibles were distributed.
