The Noon Hour Of Madness & Mayhem can be heard live on KBEAR 101 weekdays at 12pm MST. Viktor and Peaches talk about a wide variety of topics depending on the day and you never know what to expect!
[upbeat music] The noon hour of Madness and Mayhem, the podcast
Just like Victor, he is gone, gone, gone. Autumn Keen's kicking off the noon hour of Madness and Mayhem, and Victor's best replacement is here.
Yes, I am.
That's right, the one, the only FJ-
Woo
... AKA Jeff. We were talking off the air with loyal listener Troy, and we were still making fun of that, uh, that story about how over in the UK this professor was like, "Hey, if you covered your windows with yogurt-
Ugh
... on the outside, it would make your place feel cooler." And I was half-tempted this past weekend to do that.
I don't blame you. Um, granted, the smell right now might be unbearable.
Well, I, I... The reason why I was late this morning, I would ha- I hate to admit this on the air, but the reason why I was late this morning is because I was, uh, packing my lunch pail. I was on time. I was packing my lunch pail. The Oikos triple zero yogurt-
J-
... that I typically have in the morning with blueberries.
Yeah.
I stupidly dropped one of them, and it landed on the floor.
And it blew up.
Prrt.
Oh, yeah.
It got all over the wall. I, I felt like I just covered my apartment with the yogurt.
It didn't get on your windows, though.
No, it didn't. It got all over the wall. It, it got... It a- almost got on my scale, too. The, the weight was so-
It, it landed in the wrong spot.
Yeah, I, it's, there was white goop everywhere.
[laughs]
So I had to walk around with a paper towel, all hunched over, wiping it, wiping it all up, and then realized, "Oh, it's almost 8:00 AM. I need to get going to the studio."
"I should be at work."
'Cause I didn't want it to dry out and, you know, make my place smell ba- I think... So I had my friends over, Bryson and Charlotte.
Yeah.
Uh, Bryson's girlfriend Charlotte has never seen my apartment, and so I was like, "Hey, you wanna come see the Peach Pad?" It's not that in- all that enticing. I, I invited some, I invited some, uh, some dude's girl into my place. [laughs]
[laughs]
Well, of course Bryson was with us, too.
Yeah.
And Bryson's been there countless times. But I was like, "Yeah, if you really wanna see my cruddy apartment, we'll go there." So we g- we go to my place. We open up the door. Of course what happens? I think I had some mini cucumbers with roasted garlic hummus, and that roasted garlic somehow-
Smelled wonderful
... just, just the stench of it filled up the entire apartment, so I felt so bad-
Oh, yummy
... just having these people walk in. "Hey, come in, come in and take a big whiff of the Peach Pad." [sniffs] "Oh, my God." [laughs]
[laughs]
Great way to start the day.
Oh, yeah. And so, not only that, but there was also leftover water from my Instant Pot when I was hard-boiling eggs.
Oh, so it smelled really good.
Mixed with, uh, gar- uh, gardenia, uh, wallflower plugs.
Wow.
So there was that, too.
The Peach Pad's a wonderful place.
Yeah.
Yeah, yeah. So there was, there, there was that. There was that. But if you didn't hear the announcement this morning, um, it was supposed to be announced at 10:00. Uh, the venue posted it at 8:00, so I don't know if it was their mistake, our mistake, because I'm not the one in charge of the KBEAR promotions anymore. Victor's the one.
Yeah.
And so Victor told me, "Hey, I'm gonna be out of the office today. Um, could you make the big announcement at 10:00 AM?" Sure enough, right as I get in here, I log on to Facebook. What do I see? The Mountain America Center announced that Yellow Wolf and Highly Suspect are c- are coming there on-
They were just trying to get ahead of the curve
... uh, at Oc- October 11th, the War Within Tour, um, with Passengers Unknown. Have you heard of that band before?
No, I haven't.
Um, sounds like they're unique. What, what, what genre do you think they are, considering they're opening up for Highly Suspect and Yellow Wolf?
Uh, d- I feel like there's gonna be a little bit of rock, a little bit of rap. Uh-
I, I'm thinking more so indie. Passengers Unknown.
We're gonna find out on a, a, a break.
Uh, so yeah, Sunday, October 11th, Yellow Wolf, Highly Suspect, the War Within Tour, with special guests Passengers Unknown, coming to Idaho Falls, the Mountain America Center. We're gonna give away tickets for that this entire week before you can even buy them this Friday. Uh, the pre-sale begins, uh, tomorrow at 10:00 AM, the public on-sale this Friday also at 10:00 AM. It says 10:00 AM on their post. It's not 8:00, not 9:00.
It says 10:00.
10:00 AM. We'll post about it as well. I'm hoping that Victor put the link in the description, but knowing him, he's probably too busy sleeping without his CPAP-
Oh
... sounding like he's sawing logs. Poor Becca has to deal with that every night.
Listen to it.
Yeah, he probably sounds like, uh, Will Ramos.
[snores]
[laughs]
You know, making those [groans] instead of choking sounds in his sleep. [laughs]
Man, that'd be great. [laughs]
Do you sleep with a CPAP, right, FJ?
No, but I probably should.
Oh, you should get a sleep study done. If you s- if you snore, please, by all means, get it done.
All right.
Because, uh, I, I found out when, when I was, uh, my par- when, when I would go back to my parents' house, they'd be like, "Hey, we could hear you from your bedroom down the hall with both doors shut."
Oh, wow.
So I, I, I thought something was wrong, and then my heart went into AFib because, yeah, I had sleep apnea and just didn't get treated for it in time, and there was that whole mess. But luckily, I'm just fine now with my CPAP machine. I am 45 pounds down now, so I'm trying to s- to just shock the sleep doctor when I get there in, like, November, and I'm like 100 pounds lighter. I'm like, "Hey, do I need to have this machine?"
And he's gonna be like, "No."
[laughs] No. Oh-
No, you won't need it by then
... I'll be... Can you imagine? Uh, then I'd, then I'd be scared, though. I'd be like, am I... What if I just gain the weight back?
I mean, you can still sleep with it.
Yeah, I'll do that. I'll do that. But yeah, get a sleep study done if you snore. It's the noon hour of, uh, mild and meh, I guess, today.
[laughs]
Yeah, that's right. Me and FJ, we're here. KBEAR 101. [upbeat music] It's the noon hour of Madness and Mayhem. I am Peaches.
I'm FJ.
FJ, how good is your grip strength?
Uh, it, it used to be really good. I haven't checked in, in, you know, a while.
I thought I was a rather strong dude, and then I go to the gym. We get, we get those, uh, free personal training sessions. I took my... I did my first one.
Yeah.
And, uh, the trainer was like, "Hey, let's see how your grip strength is." And so I squeeze the machine.
And how was it?
And the guy was like, "Oh, it could use some improvement." Usually when they say something like that, they're just being nice.
Yeah.
They're just saying I'm weak.
[laughs]
So I went to... Oh, uh, when I was, uh, with my friends Bryson and Charlotte over the weekend, um, we ran a few errands. We went to, uh, Ross, and that's where I got my Dole painting that's now hanging in my-
Oh, nice
... hanging in my apartment. And then, uh, Charlotte's like, "Hey, let's go to Target." So we go to Target, too, and we... I, I was making that joke saying, "Hey, instead of paying for a gym membership- You can just go to the weight section at Target and start lifting weights.
That's a great idea. [laughs]
Why not? Get your free breakfast at the, uh, hotels that offer free breakfast in the morning.
Yeah.
These are Peaches financial hacks.
Just make your rounds.
Yeah, ab- absolutely. It gives you time. It gives you some, uh... Well, it gives you the ability to leave the house, you know, not spend any money.
G-
It's nice.
Yeah, get out and do something. Walk around a bit.
Well, I, I decided to buy the, the hand grip thing here.
Oh, nice.
And it goes from 30 to 90 pounds. I wanted to see if you could do... Uh, I, I don't know if it's at the max weight, but g- go ahead and give that a squeeze here.
All right. All right.
Let's see if you can do it. This is great radio, by the way.
Oh, yeah.
There you go. You can do it. You're shaking a little bit, but that's fine.
That was right-handed. Left-handed. Yeah, we got it.
[laughs] FJ, Mr. Incredible himself. Yeah, I've been doing this in my car as I'm driving.
[laughs]
[laughs] How's that going?
As I... You know how dudes drive with one hand on the wheel?
Yeah.
I got my other hand squeezing this g- [laughs] squeezing this. And then I'll switch too. If I'm at a stoplight, I'll put my other hand on the wheel, you know? I- is it illegal to, to, to do this [laughs] while-
I don't think so
... driving? Well, I, I feel, I feel like we gotta ask that this Friday on Traffic School, powered by The Advocates.
A- as long as it's not distracting you, you should be fine.
Yeah, I mean, it, it is illegal to text with both hands. It is illegal to text, overall use your phone, not only with both hands, but with one hand as well.
Yeah.
It's, uh, because it's distracted driving, obviously. KBARA 101 and Brenton Gordon Law have teamed up 'cause we care. We wanna make sure that you, uh, you're, you're extra safe this summer. This extra, this, this summer has been extra catastrophic for-
There have been a lot of wrecks
... for some people. There's been a lot of wrecks, a lot of deaths this summer. Um, [laughs] yesterday on... But as I was leaving for my lunch break, I thought I had the whole parking lot to myself, and so I'm backing out of the spot. And I'm going completely sideways, right?
Yeah.
I, I didn't realize Josh's, uh, motorbike, motorcycle-
Oh, yeah
... was parked next to me.
That's 'cause it's little.
So I almost hit that. Yeah, it's, it's a little tiny motorcycle. It's like something Stuart Little would drive.
[laughs]
You know, and it, it-
Well, Josh is a little guy
... his helmet's bigger than the motorcycle. Have you seen the helmet? It's sitting there on the counter-
Yeah
... in the classy studio.
Yeah. [laughs]
It's huge. He looks like a member of Daft Punk. And so he, uh, he go... He has his motorcycle taking up a whole spot out there. He can just bring that in the building, I feel like. It's such a s- it's such a tiny bike.
Put it on the sidewalk. [laughs]
[laughs] He just, he just rides it down the hallway. [laughs]
He should.
You see him ride, take a, take a right turn by the Z studio and Victor's office. Goes right through the classy studio, popping a wheelie. "Wake up, Classy 97." Vroom, vroom.
He needs to. [laughs]
[laughs]
We should talk to him about that.
So yeah, I almost hit the motorcycle. I'm like, "Oh, geez," and then, you know, straightened myself out, got out of there. And if I can't see that motorcycle there parked next to me, it's gonna be tough to see them flying down Sunnyside, especially if people are lane splitting, even though that is illegal here-
True
... in the state of Idaho. So be extra careful.
That is why he wears a big helmet though, so you can see him.
Uh, he needs to have one of those, uh, poles with a flag at the end.
[laughs]
You know, like when you, when you, uh, take a shopping cart at a certain store.
Yeah.
There's like that long pole for no reason. [laughs] That's, that's what he needs. Maybe we should, uh, take one of those flags from the back of somebody's truck, you know, that has, like, the American flag and-
And put it on his bike
... put it on-
Yeah. [laughs]
... put it on Josh's bicycle. There we go. We'll keep him safe. If he's like, "Hey, how did this get here?" Be like, "Dude, we're worried about you. Um, we don't want some guy in a lifted Ford F-650 to take one of his big tires and just smush you to death." [upbeat music] It's the noon hour of madness and mayhem. I'm Peaches.
I'm FJ.
FJ, of course, uh, you're older than me.
Yeah.
Not by much, but, but you are.
Enough.
You're, you're what, 42?
Two.
42.
And y- school was different for you. It was different for me as well.
I'm sure.
Compared to the kids now, these kids have it easy.
They get days off. They get half days. Like, ugh.
You grew up around here, didn't you?
Yes, I did.
Now, did you go to school all five days no matter what?
Yeah.
Okay, so it's not just, like, the Idaho school system is awful.
No, it, like, it was normal back then.
Because I-
You, you went to school.
Yeah, because I, I've talked with my, my friend Bryson, his younger brother Brigham as well, and, uh, they were doing supposedly so well in school that they could just take Mondays off.
What?
Uh, that, that, that was a thing apparently at that, at, uh, Thunder Ridge. Shout out to them.
Oh, well, uh-
Not to call them out single-handedly
... if they were at Thunder Ridge, they, they're young anyways 'cause that's a brand-new school.
But still, it's like I, I've seen... Uh, 'cause I drive by Idaho Falls High School every day to come to here.
Yeah.
And also to go to other places too 'cause it's, it's right by my place.
It's in the middle of town.
Yeah, it's in the middle of town. I, I drive down Holmes all the time. Holmes is a terrible street.
Mm-hmm.
They really need to expand it, but that's a whole other story.
[laughs]
Um, but Idaho Falls High School, I mean, I... During the school year, I've driven by the school, and there's no students there. Like, they just have the day off.
It's so weird. They, they have late starts and early releases, and I don't get some schools, they don't have Fridays or Mondays. Like, what is going on?
Back in, uh, high, back in middle school, um, my schedule was 8:55 to 3:45. Monday through Friday, we had 45-minute periods, one through seven, right? One of them had to be P- had to be PE.
[laughs]
And then we went to, uh, we went to high school.
Yeah.
And it was the, like... So we had two middle schools in the area. It was McAuliffe Middle School and Oak Middle School. McAuliffe L- McAuliffe Eagles, Oak Lions. The one high school, Los Alamitos High School, their mascot is a griffin, the combination of eagles-
Oh, that makes sense
... and the lions.
That's pretty smart.
And so as a McAuliffe, a proud McAuliffe Eagle, uh, we would always say Oak's a joke, you know?
Ah.
We, we had that, uh, that middle school rivalry.
Yeah. Mm-hmm.
Even though there was, there's no middle s- middle school sports. You know, it's just like, "Oh, if you go to Oak, you suck."
Yeah.
"Don't take that." You know? E- even though my middle school is named after Kristen McAuliffe, and it had nothing to do with her.
And you were all going to the same place.
And we were all going to that high school. There were, like, there was a few students that were like, "I'm gonna go to, uh, OSHA," or whatever, like the, the, the high school of the arts.
Oh, yeah.
I wonder how those kids are doing. I don't think they're famous now.
Probably not.
Yeah, they, they probably went there for acting, realized how awful of a life that is, and then just decided, "You know what?"
Or they realized they sucked.
"I'm gonna go into accounting." [laughs] They realized they suck.
[laughs]
They have to go against, like, the top-tier, uh, actors and actresses, you know? Uh, but I, I just saw this pop up, you know how P-E... Oh, not P-E in high school. I didn't take P-E in high school. I was a basketball player, all right? You were a loser if you took P-E in high school, all right? Jeff, did you take P-E in high school? [laughs]
Of course.
[laughs]
You had to. It was a required course.
Well, I took, like, you know, six-period basketball. Like, after my classes were done, we had to head to the coach's room, and then we had to do this grueling practice. We, we had to do some plyometrics too. It was a horrible, horrible time.
I did lifetime sports.
But it's supposed to build character, you know? It's like digging a hole six feet by six feet.
Yeah. [laughs]
It builds character. Well- You know how in middle school, I just mentioned this on the show not that long ago, um, nobody would shower after PE class, and you would get all sweaty.
Mm-hmm.
You'd have to run the mile.
Yep.
And then you had five minutes to change, and so nobody would use the shower or the locker room.
Yeah, you didn't have time.
So then you had to spray Axe body spray all over you.
Everywhere.
All over you, and then you would go to, like, drama class right afterwards.
And smell like BO and Axe body spray.
Yeah, and it's like, what, what Axe body spray was available back then? I was trying to think. Maybe it was, like, berry or something like that. I don't know.
It wasn't covering it up.
But I thought it was the best-smelling thing ever. I thought Axe body spray was like, oh, yeah, all the girls will love me because you saw the commercials.
Yep. The-
All, all the dudes were getting all the, all the ladies, you know? [laughs]
That's how they made their money.
And then there's big, fat middle school me looking like Chris Griffin-
[laughs]
... 'cause back then I had, like, the long blonde hair. A- and I was like, "Hey." You know, I was, like, all awkward and everything, of course, like I am now, and I, I was, uh... I, I wouldn't talk to the, the girls 'cause they scared me. I thought they had cooties.
Oh, yeah.
You know?
For sure.
Uh, one of them sat next to me in drama class. Her name was Sydney. Uh, I, I don't know if I should say her last name on the air, but anyway, her name was Sydney, and she wore these short shorts, right? And her leg ru- touched my arm, and I was like, "Oh, it's the Axe body spray."
That's what did it.
"It has to be. That's right."
Yep.
I felt like such a player, dude.
It's all that makes sense.
That's right. Peaches pit party in Mrs. Artukovich's drama class.
Yeah.
Seventh grade or eighth grade. Was it eighth grade? I, I felt so old back then, and now I look back on it, I'm like, "These eighth graders are just kids, dude." [laughs]
[laughs] You have no idea.
But if I was in the p- in the pool at Bryson and Charlotte's place over the weekend, and, uh, you know, uh, what's it called? There was a whole group of, uh, people, and there was two moms, and I think they both had daughters.
Yeah.
And, uh, those two daugh- those daughters were like, "Yeah, w- we were in the eighth grade, and now we're gonna be freshmen in high school."
Oh, wow.
It's like, wow, that feels so long ago.
If I could only go back.
D- uh, what, what, what would you do if you had to go back to high school? Like-
Sleep in more.
S- that's it? You would just miss your first period class? That's it?
Yeah. [laughs]
[laughs] Okay.
All right, I guess we'll wrap up the noon hour of madness and mayhem with a first world problem. You know how hot it's been h- here in the area? Um-
Oh, it's been miserable.
I want everyone to stay cool. You know, put on sunscreen if you need it. Um, if you're one of those people that just tans, uh, where's my, uh, where's my soundboard here?
Oh, good for you.
There we go.
Yeah, I'm not one of those people.
I, I'm jealous of those people. Um-
I am so pasty white.
Oh, me too. Me too. I, uh, I found out I'm 100% northwestern European, and I don't know what that exactly means, but I, I, I take-
It means you sunburn.
I d- I feel like that's the only takeaway from it, is that I am 100% white. You know?
Yeah.
The people were shocked when I took that 23andMe test years ago and they were like, "How can someone be 100%?" You would think there was something, uh, something in there, something unique.
Nope. Does- nope. It doesn't happen.
My grandma told my dad, "Hey, yeah, we're part, uh, Blackhawk Indian," and that was a complete lie.
Yeah, my grandpa used to say something like that too, that-
[laughs]
... there was some Cherokee in us. I don't believe it for a second.
Yeah. No, you gotta take the test.
I'd be able to handle some sort of sun.
Right. Yeah. Oh, j- yeah, no kidding. No kidding. And then, so yeah, a- and even with, at the, uh, the swimming pool, just spending an hour out there, my leg is burnt. My left shoulder burnt.
Oh, yeah.
It, it was awful. That's why-
It's terrible
... that's why I wore that safari hat on the Fourth of July. I was like, "There's no way I'm getting my bald head burnt on the Fourth," 'cause-
And we were even under a tent.
Oh, yeah. Somehow, some way I would have still gotten burnt, but thankfully I didn't.
My, my hand did.
The safari hat saved me. Your hand did?
Oh, well, I mean, it was burnt from the day before a little bit, but-
Oh, 'cause you were floating the river, dude.
Yeah.
Okay.
But it got even worse. Like, it looked pretty bad there for a couple days.
Um, this wasn't the first world problem that I wanted to talk about. This is just something that we're complaining about here on the air.
Oh. Oh, okay. [laughs]
Um, you know, what, what... Do you have a PS5, or what system do you use?
PS5.
So okay, so you don't use a PC at all?
No.
Okay. Okay.
Not, not for that.
'Cause I was talking to our mutual friend Mike, and I was like, "Why hasn't Jeff joined the Discord server?"
Oh, I can join it.
Oh, oh yeah, that's right, 'cause p- the Play- PlayStation and Xbox both have Discord capabilities now.
Yeah, it's built into it.
Yeah. So we could... Oh, dude, it'd be great to have you in there, 'cause everyone... I think you know everyone in that server.
Probably.
And you're the same age as them. I feel like the young guy in there. So that's where I go to feel young. Yeah, I, I hang out with a wide variety of ages, like Maddie from down the hall. Uh-
That's where you go to feel old.
She's my youngest friend, and, uh, she's the... She's been, um, she's been very helpful with Z103 imaging because she knows all the Gen Z lingo. She even has a list for me of all the, uh, the terms, the slang terms that's up to date with the definition. I'm like, "Please do not give me any, any Gen Z slang that's considered offensive-
[laughs]
... that I just randomly put in the Z103 imaging, and all of a sudden someone goes, "[gasps] How dare they just play this?" You know? Um, you also hang out with, uh, well, we get to do stuff with Kennedy. Like, you have to check the logs and stuff with Kennedy.
Yep, yep, yep.
And that's where you also feel old, I feel like, right?
Yes. Uh, but I mean, half the people in this building I feel old around.
Oh, I've... You just gotta hang out on this side of the building, you know? Besides me, there's Justin, Josh, Jade, Victor.
Yeah, and they are all older than me.
You can hang out with the sales team. Um, there's a lot of them that are about the same age if not older.
There's only one that's younger, I think.
Okay. There you go.
Yeah.
And then Kevin, of course, the big boss man.
Yeah, he's a little bit older.
But yeah, if you do wanna feel young, just hang out around Jade Davis, you know?
It d- it makes you feel young.
Right. Absolutely. Absolutely.
[laughs]
But yeah, I have this w- these wide variety of friends where, you know, like, there's the young, there's the old. But i- in there I go to feel rather young, you know? Because I, I'm, I'm talking about, like, what I'm, what I'm doing with my life right now, trying to lose the weight and all of that. They're like, "Well, you're... We're very happy that you're doing this now rather than at our age because trying to lose 100 and something pounds at 40 is darn near impossible."
It's not the same thing.
Where am I even going with this? I meant to talk about this first world problem.
Yeah. What, what is the world problem?
So, like, you know, there's a line of... There's a meme here. It shows a line of people wanting to get the PS5. The PS5 was definitely way more successful than the Xbox Series X.
Yes, it was.
Hands down. Hands down. Well, now it, it shows 2028, everyone's lining up for the PC and not going for the PS6. Are you gonna be one of those people that switches over to a PC?
Ooh, that- That's tough. I don't know
See, my first world problem is this. My first world problem is that I was sitting there in my second bedroom, my second bedroom of my b- my 900 square foot apartment that I pay too much money for.
[laughs]
Um, I was sitting there and it's, it's, no, there's no air conditioning. For a place that's, I, I pay tons of money for, there's no AC 'cause it's an old building. You know, our mutual friend Brian, he, that was his first apartment.
I couldn't do it. I have to have the AC.
20 years ago and he was like, "The buildings were old then. I can't imagine how they are now." I'm like, "Thanks Brian, really appreciate that."
[laughs]
Um, uh, there's no AC so I'm sitting there in the second bedroom. It's scorching hot. I have the window wide open. I have a fan going. Still scorching hot. Uh, the PC radiates all this heat.
Oh yeah.
My friend Bryson's like, "Hey," um, when, when I first got the PC he's like, "Hey by the way, in the wintertime you'll love it because there's, it's gonna be like a natural heat source." Or not a natural heat. "It's gonna be like a nice heat source for you."
Yeah.
"But in the summertime you're gonna absolutely hate it."
And you do.
Sure enough-
Mm-hmm
... this weekend it was bad.
Yep.
And I had to deal with the game being all framey and all of that 'cause everything's just so hot and it sucked. I'm sitting there half-naked trying to play Grounded Two-
[laughs]
... trying to kill these bugs. I'm yelling at Bryson 'cause I'm like, "Dude I'm getting attacked by a scorpion. Please come help." And he come, he's exploring. He's one of those dudes that just runs everywhere. Just runs everywhere on the map.
He's having a good time.
He's having a good time picking things up. I'm like, "Dude." And so like I, I, I typically am one of those people if I see a bug I run the other direction. If he's, just encounters a bug while he's exploring he's like-
He'll kill it
... "I'll t- I'll take it down myself." And I'm like the little, little, little wussy that's going like, "I'm outta here." [laughs] So I'll hop-
I can't do it
... I'll hop on my ant buggy and just fly away or just, just sprint away. But so it, it's so funny how there's different types of gamers. That was my first world problem is that, you know, I'm in the second bedroom, uh, in my undies, you know, just going like, "It's hot in here," 'cause I have no AC.
[laughs]
