Welcome to Going in Grace, a podcast where we go beyond simply understanding God's Word—we explore how to live it out daily, making a meaningful impact in our lives and the lives of those around us.
Welcome back to Going in Grace. I’m so glad you’re here. Today’s episode is deeply personal and deeply spiritual. It’s about the importance of obeying God quickly—without delay, without overthinking, and without waiting for perfect conditions.
I want to start by sharing a bit of my own journey. For years, I wrestled with perfectionism and overthinking. I wanted every move to be calculated, polished, and safe. But I’ve learned that when God speaks, He’s not asking for perfection—He’s asking for obedience. And often, He’s asking for it now.
This podcast itself is the fruit of that shift. When I sensed the Lord nudging me to start it, I didn’t wait. I didn’t over-plan. I didn’t wait for the perfect mic or the perfect intro music. I moved. Within two weeks, I had learned how to host, found a microphone, and launched my first episode. And by God’s grace, we’ve been consistent all year.
Let’s talk about why quick obedience matters—and how to get out of your head and into motion when God speaks. Let’s start with the Word. Scripture is full of people who moved quickly when God spoke—and others who hesitated and missed out.
Abraham is one of the best examples of immediate obedience. When God told him to sacrifice Isaac, he didn’t delay.
Genesis 22:3 (NKJV) says: "So Abraham rose early in the morning and saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son; and he split the wood for the burnt offering, and arose and went to the place of which God had told him."
He rose early. He didn’t wait for confirmation. He didn’t ask for a second sign. He moved.
Peter and Andrew responded immediately when Jesus called them.
Matthew 4:20 (NKJV): "They immediately left their nets and followed Him."
James and John did the same.
Matthew 4:22 (NKJV): "And immediately they left the boat and their father, and followed Him."
Immediate obedience. No delay. No debate.
Now contrast that with someone like Lot’s wife. She was told to flee and not look back.
Genesis 19:26 (NKJV): "But his wife looked back behind him, and she became a pillar of salt."
Her hesitation cost her everything.
Or consider the rich young ruler in Mark 10. Jesus invited him to follow—but he couldn’t let go.
Mark 10:22 (NKJV): "But he was sad at this word, and went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions."
As many of us say, his posessions had him. He missed the moment. God is merciful. He is gracious. That’s undeniable.
Psalm 103:8 (NKJV): "The Lord is merciful and gracious, Slow to anger, and abounding in mercy."
But there’s something powerful—and often time-sensitive—about responding quickly. There are blessings, breakthroughs, and divine alignments tied to our obedience.
When we delay, we risk missing divine timing. We risk forfeiting opportunities. We risk staying stuck in cycles of fear and indecision.
I used to overthink a lot. I was so concerned about missing God’s timing that I hesitated and likely missed God’s timing. I wanted every detail. Details make me feel safe and like I won’t disappoint God. I wanted to feel ready. I realized that readiness is often a myth. God doesn’t wait for us to feel ready—He waits for us to say yes.
When I felt the nudge to start this podcast, I had every reason to wait. A demanding career, a couple side jobs, three children who need my support and a husband to love. I didn’t know how to host. I didn’t even own a quality microphone or camera. I didn’t have a name or graphics. God didn’t even outline my topics. He just let me know He would be with me. I said yes. And within two weeks, it was live. This has continued to be a learning journey, but that decision changed everything.
It wasn’t perfect and it still isn’t—but it was obedient. And obedience opens doors that perfection never will. If you’re someone who struggles with overthinking, here are a few practical tips to help you obey God quickly:
1. Recognize the Voice of God.
If you know it’s Him—move. Don’t wait for a second sign. John 10:27 (NKJV): "My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me."
2. Set a 24-Hour Rule.
When you feel God prompting you, commit to taking action within 24 hours. Even a small step counts.
3. Silence the Inner Critic.
Your perfectionism is not your protector—it’s your prison. 2 Corinthians 10:5 (NKJV):
"Casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ."
4. Start Before You’re Ready.
God equips those who move. Hebrews 11:8 (NKJV): "By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going."
5. Celebrate Progress, Not Perfection.
Every act of obedience is a win. Don’t wait for the final product to celebrate. If God is speaking to you—move. Don’t wait for the perfect plan. Don’t wait for full clarity. Don’t wait for the applause. Move.
Your obedience might unlock someone else’s breakthrough. Your yes might be the seed of a new season. Your quick response might be the difference between delay and destiny.
I’m living proof. This podcast exists because I moved. And I’m so grateful I did.
Let me leave you with one final verse: Ecclesiastes 11:4 (NKJV): "He who observes the wind will not sow, And he who regards the clouds will not reap."
Don’t wait for perfect conditions. Sow now. Move now. Obey now. Until next time, keep moving when God speaks and know that your obedience matters.
