Good morning and welcome. In today's Torah portion from Yisro, we witness the wisdom of Yisro advising Moses on the management of the people's disputes. Observing the exhaustion of Moses, Yisro suggests establishing a tiered court system, ensuring local issues are addressed efficiently. This model, with judges appointed from each tribe, laid the foundation for our judicial system today. Notably, when Moses selected judges, he faced a challenge. The criteria set by Yisro were high, emphasizing the need for God-fearing, truthful men who reject unjust gain. However, Moses could only find men of valor, highlighting the difficulty of finding such integrity in leadership. As the system was implemented, Moses maintained authority over the most challenging cases while delegating minor issues to local judges. Finally, after imparting this wisdom, Moses sent Yisro back to his homeland, where he aimed to guide his family towards Judaism, thus integrating them into our people. This reflection on leadership and responsibility remains ever relevant. This podcast was produced and sponsored by Daniel Aharonoff.
