Exploring the frontiers of Technology and AI
Josh:
What's up, everybody? Welcome back to Limitless. You probably have some questions.
Josh:
It's been a little while.
Josh:
What has it been? Three weeks and two days, something like that.
Josh:
Not that we've been counting, but we have some updates. This is an update video
Josh:
letting you know what's been going on over the past few weeks,
Josh:
what will be going on over the next few weeks, months, and hopefully years.
Josh:
And as you can see, Vijay is right by my side. Things are good.
Ejaaz:
I don't know which side you are, Josh.
Josh:
All is well, yeah. I think, yeah, you're giving, wait, I'll give the hug,
Josh:
put the arm out. There we go. Yeah, there's our virtual hug.
Josh:
All is well. We have some updates. Ejaz, you want to fill people in about what's been going on
Ejaaz:
The last few weeks? Oh, what hasn't been going on?
Josh:
It's been excruciatingly painful. Listen, we miss you guys so much.
Josh:
And we see all the messages.
Ejaaz:
We have missed you guys. Yes. Can we talk about the messages, Josh?
Ejaaz:
The amount of people that have messaged me, and I'm sure it's been the case
Ejaaz:
for you as well, being like...
Ejaaz:
Have you and josh broken up like is everything good between you and josh just
Ejaaz:
to address the the rumors josh and i are very well i can still see him in his
Ejaaz:
window well actually there's a building that's obstructing his view but he's still we.
Josh:
Live right next to each other also and the messages the outpouring of messages
Josh:
has been so kind and so generous and it's really nice to to see the support from the people who have
Ejaaz:
Watched yes it has and okay so let's go through like a quick kind of i guess
Ejaaz:
list of things that have been happening um,
Ejaaz:
the first thing is we've been working on some stuff behind the scenes and what
Ejaaz:
that looks like is a new partnership that comes in the form of this company
Ejaaz:
that had been listening to us and we're actually fans of the show they've been
Ejaaz:
listening to us for about
Ejaaz:
three to four months and they kind of reached out they were like hey how can we
Ejaaz:
work with you you know you guys are looking for like sponsorship or like you
Ejaaz:
know you want to expand the show and build it on a bigger scale and so that's
Ejaaz:
what we've been working on behind the scenes.
Ejaaz:
And it's been excruciating not being able to talk about it with you guys and
Ejaaz:
figure out how to communicate with this and put out new episodes for you folks.
Ejaaz:
But we've finally reached a point where we're comfortable enough to do that.
Ejaaz:
And we're excited to be back on the show. So I guess update number one is Yahoo
Ejaaz:
Finance has agreed to work very closely to put out AI content to you.
Ejaaz:
We talk about all the headline news, trending topics, new releases,
Ejaaz:
new models, but there is also another update.
Josh:
Yes, when EJ says us, he means us a little more sparingly than normal. Because...
Josh:
As of now, this is going to be a different type of show where I will be less
Josh:
involved. And this is the part that breaks my heart.
Josh:
As this whole process was going on with Yahoo and we were figuring out how to
Josh:
transition, some of you who have been sleuthing around the internet realized
Josh:
that I also had a role at Anthropic as a contractor.
Josh:
I have decided to continue to pursue that and continue to work at Anthropic
Josh:
as a full-time job at a full-time capacity.
Josh:
And it's doing similar stuff to what we're doing here on the show.
Josh:
Oh, it's creating content. It's talking about AI. It's just doing so at the
Josh:
place that we talk about on all of our episodes. And it was really difficult.
Josh:
Ejaz and I, we worked through a lot of the logistics of what this would look
Josh:
like and just kind of making sure it was cool by everybody.
Josh:
So instead of me being the host of every episode, I will be involved much more
Josh:
sparingly. I'm here today. I will hopefully be dropping in every once in a while.
Josh:
But Ejaz is now going to be shepherding you through the singularity and beyond
Josh:
for all of these daily episodes.
Josh:
And like, I do have to just thank everyone for the support and just like being
Josh:
here today in general, listening to this episode, you guys, this is number two, three, four.
Josh:
We've recorded 234 episodes of the show, which is just like an unbelievable
Josh:
journey that we've gone on over the last, what has it been like 15, 16 months.
Josh:
And the support that we've garnered over the last year from all the people who
Josh:
just reached out over the last couple of weeks, concerned, wondering where we've
Josh:
been, missing their favorite daily show.
Josh:
It's been so nice and just really sweet to...
Josh:
To feel the, I guess, like compassion from the audience that we've,
Josh:
we've built the community that we have and like miss you.
Josh:
We'll miss you, but we'll continue to provide content on a regular basis through
Josh:
our pal over here, Ejaz, who is now, I will say much more resourced.
Josh:
Ejaz will be in a studio filming a real show, um, and doing so at a regular cadence.
Josh:
So it's yeah, kind of a weird, weird, big change, tough change to talk about.
Ejaaz:
It's huge.
Josh:
But, um, but like a new, a new chapter a new era for for both of us
Ejaaz:
I want to address the you moving on to anthropic because it's kind of like going through a breakup josh i
Ejaaz:
i i told you this like the pit in my stomach definitely reassures dude i i was
Ejaaz:
like like we've been friends for so long and like we started this show literally in our bedrooms
Ejaaz:
stemming from conversations that we had offline before we ever sat in front
Ejaaz:
of a camera and so dude it's like extremely bittersweet and i've i've said all
Ejaaz:
of this to you off camera but like,
Ejaaz:
gonna miss you man like seriously like it's and we have like had
Ejaaz:
the most funnest times i've had the most funnest times ever on this show and
Ejaaz:
i'd be lying if i said that like you know um the new version would be would
Ejaaz:
ever feel the same um i don't think we can ever replace you but the intention of
Ejaaz:
the new version of this show is
Ejaaz:
that we maintain that core kind of like dna um and and that's you know it's
Ejaaz:
going to be me for now and i'm going to try my hardest to meet the very high
Ejaaz:
bar that we, you and I set on this show so far.
Ejaaz:
And hopefully, hopefully bring the type of content and insights and sometimes
Ejaaz:
very unhinged takes that you guys have been used to listening to.
Ejaaz:
And I want to emphasize the point that you just made, Josh, which is like the.
Ejaaz:
Loyalty and outpour of support that we've seen from you folks just over the
Ejaaz:
last couple of weeks has been insane.
Ejaaz:
You said it was three weeks, Josh. It has felt like three months.
Ejaaz:
I don't know about you, but like, it has felt like an eternity.
Ejaaz:
And there have been times where I'm like, I get these DMs and I'm like,
Ejaaz:
I really want to explain what's going on, but like I can't. And it's this really
Ejaaz:
difficult thing where we're still trying to work through some operational challenges.
Ejaaz:
But yeah, like it's going to be a new version of the show and I'm super excited to do it.
Ejaaz:
I hope you guys will join me and us and producer Luke, who's still behind the
Ejaaz:
scenes, joining us on this new thing forwards as we kind of put out more content
Ejaaz:
and capture the frontier.
Ejaaz:
But the cool part is we've always said on this show, we've always kind of been
Ejaaz:
like this armchair critic or this armchair expert that has been yapping at you
Ejaaz:
guys, it'll be nice to have an official.
Ejaaz:
Subject matter expert in the form of Josh appear on the show every now and again.
Ejaaz:
In the arena, letting us know all the latest and greatest of what's going on
Ejaaz:
at one of the top research labs in the world, which is awesome to see.
Ejaaz:
The other thing I'll say is,
Ejaaz:
In this new partnership, it's very important that we maintain the core DNA of
Ejaaz:
this show, which has ended up being me, us, Luke, producer Luke,
Ejaaz:
and all the creative kind of aspects that come with that.
Ejaaz:
And I just want to emphasize that that is exactly what it's going to be.
Ejaaz:
We're going to try and maintain that high bar that we set between the two of
Ejaaz:
us and put out content that hopefully you guys enjoy. So you guys are very key and important here.
Ejaaz:
We don't have any restrictions. We can make whatever type of episode or show
Ejaaz:
that we want, and we take a lot feedback seriously so we hope you guys will
Ejaaz:
join us on that journey um and i'm super excited by it albeit a little upset
Ejaaz:
um that josh is moving on but i'm super pumped for you dude.
Josh:
Yeah i want to explain a little more context but i also want to share the lore
Josh:
of limitless because i don't think a lot of people know behind the scenes what
Josh:
actually goes on how big is the team how we get things done like everything that you see
Josh:
in limitless is done by three people and two of them are on screen right now
Josh:
we have a very small team we have a very lean team that pumps out four episodes
Josh:
a week and it's myself ejaz and producer luke who edits all the videos um luke is
Josh:
graciously going with ejaz to yahoo to continue that side of things and then
Josh:
i want to explain just a little bit of the thinking behind it because i feel
Josh:
like i do owe it to the people to just like share what
Josh:
What happened here so it's like the dream for me has there's been two parallel
Josh:
dreams which is one creating content to being at the frontier of technology
Josh:
all the things that we love all the things that we do um and then these two
Josh:
opportunities kind of happens within a few months of each other simultaneously
Josh:
one was to talk about the thing the other was to talk about the thing while building the thing and
Josh:
it feels like such a rare opportunity to contribute to a frontier lab in a meaningful
Josh:
way doing like what i'm responsible for is a lot of the content creation and
Josh:
the social channels and distributing videos and i'll be on a bunch of videos over there
Josh:
and it seemed like an opportunity that i could contribute as a non-technical
Josh:
person in a meaningful way that can make a difference and that to me was really
Josh:
important to to give it a try and see it through. And
Josh:
We chatted about it. I have all the faith in the world that after 234 reps,
Josh:
you're pretty good at this thing.
Josh:
And I think we're both pretty good at this thing. And the product will not die
Josh:
as a result. It will just look a little bit different. And I think that is okay.
Josh:
And we'll both still be creating content in our own worlds. And we'll both sync up when it makes sense.
Josh:
And I think that's like going to be, that's the explanation.
Josh:
At least that's kind of the reasoning and the thinking behind it.
Josh:
It's going to be weird though. and it's different because we dude so much has
Josh:
changed since we recorded episode one like episode one i think was may 17th
Josh:
2025 something around there i think it was sean mcguire as the guest
Josh:
I remember, like, I was going through a few of our episodes,
Josh:
particularly the new model launch demo episodes that I was, like,
Josh:
clicking through just to see.
Josh:
And I remember not even, what was it, like, eight or nine months ago,
Josh:
we were stoked just to have, like, a little sprite on screen running through
Josh:
a 3D world. Oh, my God. And that was, like, the coolest demo in the world.
Josh:
Like, we couldn't believe it. We posted a short about it. The short went viral.
Josh:
It was, like, our best performing short ever because, holy crap,
Josh:
you can prompt a model to make, like, a game.
Josh:
And fast forward to today it's like dude if you if you prompt a model you'll
Josh:
get like you're getting like call
Josh:
of duty now in one prompt it is like a full-blown triple a game in fact
Josh:
i was going to ask you if you've been interested about any topics recently because
Josh:
one of the things that i got one-shotted with recently was um the reverse compiling
Josh:
of games i don't know if you've seen this on x
Josh:
but like as an avid gamer myself i've loved gaming since the beginning of time
Josh:
i still play every day i got my controller right here on my desk it doesn't leave my side um
Josh:
people who've been using these ai models the more recent frontier ones they've
Josh:
been reverse compiling these games back to their source code rebuilding them
Josh:
in a different language to bypass the ip laws and then just allowing you to
Josh:
play them and remix them together
Josh:
i found this so unbelievable that you can have like portal 2 with call of duty
Josh:
zombies in one or i saw like tiger woods driving like a car through like
Josh:
A Zelda map and I saw like a chess game mixed with like Link and there's been
Josh:
so many of these remixes.
Josh:
People are jailbreaking PS5s
Josh:
now like on a regular basis. You can play any game you want for free and
Josh:
i was just telling ejes before i started this that i was recording a video um
Josh:
was getting ready to publish it and i had the the model edit the video for me overnight generate the
Josh:
animations make the cuts do the sound design and it's like the progress that
Josh:
we've had from episode one to now has been staggering and i think we could both
Josh:
agree that the rate of progress is still that vertical curve so
Josh:
i don't know what the hell is gonna happen the next few months but like dude
Josh:
it's gonna be busy like you might need six seven eight nine ten episodes a week to cover all this
Ejaaz:
Stuff or maybe i just need six seven eight nine ten versions of me to cover
Ejaaz:
all of this and people can guess kind of like what the ai generated version
Ejaaz:
of it because the video models are also getting super freaky.
Josh:
Did you see the new 11
Ejaaz:
Labs i don't know whether it was the 11 labs thing but it was this product from
Ejaaz:
tavis did you see this where it's like oh no a zoom call okay so there's this video
Ejaaz:
of this guy sitting down and he's having a zoom call with one of his colleagues
Ejaaz:
and they're talking about how they should like release like the announcement
Ejaaz:
of their product and she just goes,
Ejaaz:
well maybe we should just record us speaking as like the video oh my god yes
Ejaaz:
i saw this and then he goes yes do you think people will understand that you're ai and she goes,
Ejaaz:
it doesn't matter if they do or they don't like that's just and she had the
Ejaaz:
thickest scottish accent ever and her facial expressions were like very human-like
Ejaaz:
and she could see everything he could see so,
Ejaaz:
the joke i guess here is that like ai has accelerated so quickly since we started
Ejaaz:
the show i distinctly remember josh doing an entire episode i don't know if you remember this.
Ejaaz:
Comparing the personality of how the different models sounded.
Ejaaz:
Do you remember that? Where like Grok, the first version of Grok was basically
Ejaaz:
like extremely brash. And then you had GPT-4-0, extremely sycophantic,
Ejaaz:
agreeing with everything and we couldn't stand the thing.
Ejaaz:
And then we had Claude that was just like, just starting their ascent to fame
Ejaaz:
at that point where it was like, oh, this sounds actually smart and very reasonable.
Ejaaz:
And we should start using this model more. And I remember that resurgence fast
Ejaaz:
forward to today where now i am kind of using these models in an increasing
Ejaaz:
amount of tasks and just surface area of my life josh like,
Ejaaz:
recently um you asked me what i got excited about i've been obsessed with muse
Ejaaz:
meta's new personal super intelligence when.
Josh:
It came out i was like why can we not film an episode about this immediately
Ejaaz:
It's so sick it's.
Josh:
They beat johnny i have an open hair out of the punch they got the device out
Ejaaz:
How did zuck do that well i I guess, like, Zuck has built one of,
Ejaaz:
like, the largest, most successful social media suite of products ever,
Ejaaz:
right? Instagram, WhatsApp, Facebook, yada, yada.
Ejaaz:
And so he has all this data as to, like, you know, how people act,
Ejaaz:
what they want to buy, and he can help bridge that gap between them.
Ejaaz:
So using Muse, guys, if you haven't used this, and maybe we should make,
Ejaaz:
like, an entire episode about this as kind of, like, one of our comeback episodes,
Ejaaz:
but it's, like, it is so good and easy to use.
Ejaaz:
And the greatest part about this is there's so much competition popping up now.
Ejaaz:
You've got OpenAI last week releasing their version of this called Dots.
Ejaaz:
You've got Grok from Elon Musk, GrokBots, working more on like the...
Ejaaz:
Knowledge work side of things but this era of personal agents is something that
Ejaaz:
i'm very excited about because sometimes the model releases are now happening so frequently that i
Ejaaz:
don't know about you josh especially as you're working at anthropic but like
Ejaaz:
you kind of lose track of all the updates and like there's so many things going
Ejaaz:
on at once and you don't quite know
Ejaaz:
what model to use and when it's materially good for you and these personal agents
Ejaaz:
kind of act as the new medium the new layer honestly feels like javas dude i
Ejaaz:
was playing around or rather i was watching demos of,
Ejaaz:
OpenAI's new ultra mode or ultra fast mode where it spits out like 300 tokens per second.
Josh:
And so, X the cost.
Ejaaz:
Dude, yeah, 500 bucks because thank you, Jane Street, for dragging up the prices.
Ejaaz:
But they just like, the demo was of this guy not touching a single keyboard
Ejaaz:
and just kind of talking to his AI agent.
Ejaaz:
And when he would ask for a product, it would just appear in milliseconds in front of him.
Ejaaz:
So I just, when I compare this to episode one, I'm just like,
Ejaaz:
we have come so far. You and I have learned so much. And I honestly don't know
Ejaaz:
where all of this goes. It's just crazy.
Josh:
It probably just goes faster. I remember like the first time I was ever on Bankless,
Josh:
I spent so many hours trying to figure out like the best intro.
Josh:
And the intro was just like everything around us. It was a Steve Jobs quote,
Josh:
actually, which was like everything around us is made up of people no smarter than us.
Josh:
What happens when they are smarter than us? And we are like right on the cusp
Josh:
of that reality happening.
Josh:
And i believe the downstream effects of intelligence smarter than we are is like
Josh:
still near incomprehensible in terms of how it plays out but i think
Josh:
there is a high level of certainty that it's here and if it's not here it is
Josh:
like very imminent and it is happening this year um or next year and it's really
Josh:
remarkable just to see the acceleration of progress and to your point it's like
Josh:
i think the average model launch the the time was like weeks last year and now
Josh:
we're down to like 10 days or something like that and i'm sure that's just going to compress
Josh:
i'm really excited about the personal agent era i think having a personal assistant
Josh:
giving it a hardware embodiment whether it be through musa's device the open
Josh:
ai device that we're getting later this year that like
Josh:
dude whenever that happens we need we got to chat like when we finally solve
Ejaaz:
This let's go we've.
Josh:
Got to chat about that one because like oh man that's coming
Josh:
And it's this whole new paradigm where it's like this weird asymmetry, right?
Josh:
It's like there's been remarkable amounts of acceleration on the frontier,
Josh:
but then there has been a much more limited amount of,
Josh:
I guess, absorption from the general public where there are more users for ChatGPT
Josh:
today than there were last year, but not by the amount in which the intelligence has improved.
Josh:
So I think that we're at this now with this weird place where the rate of acceleration
Josh:
increases, but the rate of adoption is still a lagging metric.
Josh:
And i think like one of the most important problems is solving that lagging
Josh:
metric and that's done by all the people watching the show you got to tell your friends about
Josh:
what's going on how to use it how you use ai like what are you using your personal
Josh:
assistant for your grok bot your your dot from open ai whatever it may be um
Josh:
i think that's like a really important paradigm shift and then the sheer amount
Josh:
of intelligence man science biology
Josh:
if you could break down those things into quantifiable math like
Josh:
math seems close to solved right it's like we're solving all these impossible millennium problems
Josh:
um that probably creates a really interesting place in the next 12 months where
Josh:
it's like wow what if you can actually solve biology by breaking it down to
Josh:
numbers and then figuring it out using
Josh:
large language models like that seems kind of cool there's just so much stuff
Josh:
that's going to happen and it feels like this the stake not the stakes but like
Josh:
the importance of it gets larger it's like oh my god not only can it write your
Josh:
essays and like do your work but also it could save your life and i think i'm
Josh:
excited for like that jump to
Josh:
Oh, I don't want to use AI. It's scary to, oh my God, AI created this thing that saved my life.
Josh:
And that's like a really cool thing. So I'm hopeful that we get that next year.
Josh:
And like, therefore we get a sentiment shift around AI as a whole,
Josh:
which is generally been mixed as we've done this thing.
Josh:
In fact, I will say you just, when we started, people were a lot more favorable
Josh:
towards it than they are today. So I think there has been this like backwards
Josh:
momentum that hopefully will shift forward sometime soon.
Ejaaz:
Yeah, you're right. There's, there's been this sort of like doomerism that has
Ejaaz:
taken over especially with like all the frontier labs calling to kind of like
Ejaaz:
slow things down with all these like crazy ai agent hacks but
Ejaaz:
i think very little time is spent on pushing out all the positive advances that
Ejaaz:
we're making to your point i do think,
Ejaaz:
the gap between what's happening on the bleeding edge of the frontier like for
Ejaaz:
example what's happening anthropic opening and all these frontier labs versus
Ejaaz:
what the majority 99.9% of people actually understand is widening.
Ejaaz:
It hasn't gotten any closer. And when I think back to starting this show,
Ejaaz:
that was kind of the reason why we started it.
Ejaaz:
Because you and I were trying to figure all of this out. We were trying to unpack it ourselves.
Ejaaz:
We were looking for feedback. We were looking for an audience to kind of like
Ejaaz:
give us that feedback. So we were like, let's just film this show.
Ejaaz:
And that's the kind of like full intent of this show going forwards as well.
Ejaaz:
It's like kind of like trying to unpack the craziness that's going on.
Ejaaz:
Stuff that I'm excited about is, well, as a former biologist,
Ejaaz:
I will say on your point around moving from this world of software and just chatbots to,
Ejaaz:
physical wetware. And I know Anthropic is actually, you know,
Ejaaz:
working on like a biology lab that has advancements by robotics and,
Ejaaz:
you know, you can plug in cord and you can run a bunch of experiments physically, autonomously.
Ejaaz:
I know it's in those early stages. Like seeing more of that,
Ejaaz:
like Demis Fasibis is kind of like stepped down from his chief of AI role at
Ejaaz:
Google and is working on the same thing at, what is the name of his lab?
Ejaaz:
Isometric Labs or something like that?
Josh:
That sounds right.
Ejaaz:
Yeah, just seeing that come into real life, especially with robotics,
Ejaaz:
is going to be such a major trend and theme of 2027, in my opinion.
Ejaaz:
But there's also a case around fear, like people are worried that we are accelerating
Ejaaz:
too fast, and we need to build this in as constructive a manner as we can.
Ejaaz:
So the same tools that can be used to build all this amazing innovation,
Ejaaz:
solve math, solve physics, and build the cure for cancer can't also be used
Ejaaz:
for more malicious types of stuff.
Ejaaz:
And I think it's a very reasonable shout. And I think for those folks who are
Ejaaz:
worried about that, you have a right to be worried about those things.
Ejaaz:
But I guess the case that you and I have always tried to make on the show is
Ejaaz:
that it is way more optimistic than mainstream headlines make it out to be.
Ejaaz:
And it's our kind of like goal to kind of like, you know, I guess,
Ejaaz:
explain why that's the case.
Ejaaz:
I'm excited about the robotics stuff, dude. I was looking at,
Ejaaz:
what was it? There was an announcement from Brett Adcock. So he runs FIGA,
Ejaaz:
which is the US robotics lab, one of the leading robotics labs here in the US.
Ejaaz:
And they're announcing like their new personal agent called Hark.
Ejaaz:
I was, I got access to it. I was playing around with it last night. It's pretty cool.
Ejaaz:
But like, I don't know when this episode releases. Hopefully it's out by then.
Ejaaz:
I think it's releasing today or yesterday, depending on when you hit this episode.
Ejaaz:
Like we see hardware and software kind of like really merging together.
Ejaaz:
We see models iteratively being produced faster and faster.
Ejaaz:
Dude, the compute capex spend, do you remember like our first episode about
Ejaaz:
this where we were like, these billions and billions of dollars is a big number.
Josh:
Remember when it was billions?
Ejaaz:
Remember when it was billions? And then we have.
Josh:
Like kind of
Ejaaz:
These leaks, rumors, and like actual real figures from some of the biggest companies
Ejaaz:
in the world. I think between Google, Amazon, Meta, Microsoft,
Ejaaz:
and Oracle combined, they're spending upwards of $800 billion just next year.
Ejaaz:
Over the next 12 months, we see the price of memory still skyrocketing,
Ejaaz:
even though the last time we spoke about it was about a month and a half ago,
Ejaaz:
and we were like, oh, this might be the top.
Ejaaz:
Prices are still going up. Demand is still soaring. AMD CPUs with this new AI agent stuff is crazy.
Ejaaz:
It's hard to get my head around it because every time I think I'm being honestly
Ejaaz:
a little too optimistic about this stuff, and I'm trying to ground myself,
Ejaaz:
I'm like, but the numbers are telling me a completely different story.
Ejaaz:
I don't know about, as you can tell.
Josh:
It's not driven by debt. It's driven by revenue. And I think that's a big difference.
Josh:
And it's driven by like real value that's being delivered to the world.
Josh:
And like to your point about people disliking AI, I think like one of the most
Josh:
compelling arguments for it is that like almost all the problems that we face
Josh:
today are matters or like are downstream of a lack of intelligence or a lack of understanding.
Josh:
Like the reason why we get unhealthy is because we don't understand what makes
Josh:
us unhealthy. The reason why we can't build amazing structures and buildings
Josh:
and infrastructure quickly is because we don't have the materials,
Josh:
we don't have the manufacturing.
Josh:
It's all kind of downstream of increased knowledge. And as we as a society have
Josh:
gotten smarter historically, we have unlocked new technology like the internet,
Josh:
also like the nuclear weapon.
Josh:
Both of those things are good and bad. They have both upside and downside,
Josh:
but the net net of all of this technology, technological progress is that the
Josh:
quality of life of the average person is far better today than it was for the
Josh:
wealthiest person in the world, even a hundred years ago.
Josh:
And I see no reason in which that should change. In fact, it should accelerate
Josh:
even more so in terms of volatility. Sure, because there's a lot of uncertainty.
Josh:
There's a lot of change. Change is difficult to manage.
Josh:
But on the other side of that, it's, well, now we have intelligence that not
Josh:
only could we figure out, but we could use this artificial version that's smarter
Josh:
than us, that could think for
Josh:
Millennium worth of time in like a couple of days to solve these problems that
Josh:
we could then take and use to improve our life so i think that's a really cool
Josh:
really exciting thing to think about is like
Josh:
every problem is downstream of a lack of intelligence we are now able to generate
Josh:
intelligence at the cost per per watt per like ray of sunshine on the planet
Josh:
we can convert that ray of sunshine into thought and like that's such a brilliant thing and i think
Josh:
the back half what comes on the the backside of that it's just this like unbelievable
Josh:
new future that does things that like we can't even imagine and this is the
Josh:
early stages it's like i have to keep reminding myself how fast this has gone
Josh:
this still is like day one it's like oh remember the internet when you had like
Josh:
dial up connection and you had to like type onto like a message board and it
Josh:
was just text and then you got video and it's like
Josh:
this feels like that time and there's so many downstream effects this is a wave
Josh:
that is never gonna end there's
Josh:
there's like only ever gonna be a need to record more of these episodes because
Josh:
there's just going to be so much stuff happening.
Josh:
And I think like it's there's it's very easy to have a pessimistic view and
Josh:
to join these groups of people to feel as if you are
Josh:
Part of something special but i think the more interesting
Josh:
place to be is joining the groups who are focused on making the change happen
Josh:
so like you don't need to sit there and yell on the internet you can go and
Josh:
like get in the arena and do the thing and i find that once you start doing the thing it's like
Josh:
people start to realize like oh my god wait this is actually pretty amazing
Josh:
um and this is unbelievable technology and
Josh:
this is a really exciting future man it's just gonna to get crazier it's like
Josh:
so fast the the curve is straight vertical and it shows no signs of slowing down
Josh:
and my god what a fun journey it's been and like what a crazy journey it's going
Josh:
to continue to be over the next few like days
Josh:
weeks months year like it doesn't stop and oh it just gets me really excited
Josh:
for for the future and all the cool stuff that's coming from it
Ejaaz:
I saw this crazy stat from i think it was the a16z team two days ago where um,
Ejaaz:
they talked about like ai penetration across like the entirety of the US or
Ejaaz:
US households in general.
Ejaaz:
And the number was like 2% in terms of like power users that had used AI chatbots
Ejaaz:
beyond just like an average Google search.
Ejaaz:
And honestly, it's something that I believe when you kind of like step out of
Ejaaz:
like the Twitter bubble.
Ejaaz:
And when you speak to people that are kind of like just doing kind of normal nine to five
Ejaaz:
jobs, they've heard of the AI thing, but they have by no means kind of like
Ejaaz:
downloaded or use an open source model or used one of these personal agents
Ejaaz:
or understood like what you could potentially use these different tools for
Ejaaz:
beyond just kind of like a chatbot.
Ejaaz:
And that just gives me so much hope towards...
Ejaaz:
Productivity of humanity and where we're kind of like moving towards in terms of like,
Ejaaz:
inventing brand new things like when i think back to kind of like history in general,
Ejaaz:
the craziest or the hardest challenge that humanity has always faced is,
Ejaaz:
how do we invent a solution towards some kind of a problem and to your earlier point
Ejaaz:
with ai the idea here is is you can just kind of apply it blanket to anything
Ejaaz:
and every kind of problem and whether
Ejaaz:
it's physical or software it will eventually be able to figure it out.
Ejaaz:
About six months ago, that was crazy for anyone to kind of like conceive of,
Ejaaz:
bar maybe like a couple thousand people in the world.
Ejaaz:
And now you have an internal model that was trained for, I think it was 11 days
Ejaaz:
at OpenAI, that has reportedly solved hundreds and hundreds of open standard math problems.
Ejaaz:
And now mathematicians are kind of scratching their heads thinking,
Ejaaz:
Okay, one, how do we feel about this? Because we've just dedicated our entire
Ejaaz:
lives to figuring this out. Number two, how do we understand what the solutions
Ejaaz:
are? Josh, I don't know if you, remember we covered the whole Navier-Stokes
Ejaaz:
thing like back in the day, right? Back in the day, it was like three weeks ago.
Josh:
Ejaaz:
Navier-Stokes was like this millennium problem. There's like seven of them.
Ejaaz:
And if you solve it, you get like a million dollars. OpenAI figured it out with,
Ejaaz:
you know, one of their internal models.
Ejaaz:
Mathematicians still haven't been able to go through the solution that they
Ejaaz:
created, that the model created, because it's so hard for them to kind of wrap
Ejaaz:
their heads around. So it's like this weird thing where it's like,
Ejaaz:
okay, maybe the humans don't check the work of the AI. Maybe it's another AI.
Ejaaz:
And I think the fear that comes from that is like, well, AI is just going to
Ejaaz:
automate a bunch of our cognitive load.
Ejaaz:
And I think the important part about this technology is it should be used as
Ejaaz:
a tool very much in the same way
Ejaaz:
that the internet has benefited so many people by being used as a tool.
Ejaaz:
If you use AI as kind of like a thought partner, as something to make you smarter
Ejaaz:
and teach you different things, you could actually end up having the opposite
Ejaaz:
effect where you just become a way smarter, way more productive version of yourself
Ejaaz:
in a very short period of time.
Ejaaz:
And I hope that's what kind of like the show and the stuff that we talk about
Ejaaz:
inspires. That's what inspires me, at least. I know that's what inspires you,
Ejaaz:
Josh. So yeah, I think that's basically it. Is there anything.
Josh:
Else to catch folks up on? I mean, yeah, it's just like AI, AI is a means to
Josh:
asking better questions.
Josh:
And right now it's solving our existing questions. But man, how cool is it going
Josh:
to be when it starts to ask
Josh:
more interesting questions that we can't comprehend, that unlock all the secrets
Josh:
of our universe it seems like a reality that's coming i read a lot of sci-fi
Josh:
which helps kind of synthesize what this is like
Josh:
asimov has the last question which i think it's a short story everyone should
Josh:
go read and it's about the idea of asking better questions until eventually
Josh:
the world just reaches the heat death of the universe and like everything is
Josh:
a form of intelligence there are two camps you can choose to be the pessimist
Josh:
you can choose to be part of belonging of like this like armchair critic or you can choose to like
Josh:
take the more noble side, I think, and fight the good fight and see how this
Josh:
can actually change the world for the better. And that's what I would encourage
Josh:
everyone to do. I did want to leave with some thank yous because they are in
Josh:
order. This has been one hell of a journey.
Josh:
I first, Ejaz, co-host number one right here, could not have done this,
Josh:
all these episodes without you. So that like, oh my God, what a run it's been, what a run it will be.
Josh:
I'm so excited to continue to do this, to continue to hang out.
Josh:
We're still good, everyone.
Josh:
We live right next to each other we're neighbors he can't even if he wants to
Josh:
love you too man for better or worse we're doing the damn thing you broke my house
Ejaaz:
Yeah yeah we're good.
Josh:
Yeah and like to luke the producer who made all these episodes possible that
Josh:
dude edited so many episodes he could probably do it with his eyes closed he
Josh:
is the reason why we look so good on camera the reason why we say things that make sense he is the like
Josh:
the reference check for all the crazy ideas that happen in our head it's like
Josh:
no you cannot do this yes you should do this and it's oftentimes right and i
Josh:
trust him with deciding the topics for so many of these episodes.
Josh:
So many are gaveled by him.
Josh:
We like, Edith and I will both have an idea. Luke's like, we should do this
Josh:
one. We're like, you know what? I think you're right.
Josh:
He's like totally pivotal. We'll still continue to be involved and we'll still,
Josh:
you'll see his like hand pushing on this. There'll be a lot of similar themes
Josh:
and that'll be Luke in the background to Ryan and David, the bankless guys.
Josh:
They're the reason why this happened in the first place, particularly David,
Josh:
who took the bet to say like, hey, do you want to do this podcast thing?
Josh:
Like, I think you're pretty good at it. I think we can make something special.
Josh:
He believed in our ability to make this podcast and he was right.
Josh:
And I feel so much just like eternally kind of grateful for,
Josh:
for him, for believing in us, for allowing this to exist, for creating this
Josh:
entity that we now call like limitless and the show that we have and without
Josh:
his support throughout, like overwhelming levels of support, even
Josh:
against my resistance against it was like so critical. It's making this happen.
Josh:
And then one, one final shout out, which I have to make because we've published 234 episodes.
Josh:
And that is a tremendous amount of listening. And I don't know if anyone has
Josh:
listened to every single one, ourselves included, except for one person.
Josh:
My dad has listened to 234 of these episodes, every single word of every single one,
Ejaaz:
Which is just like this.
Josh:
Unbelievable feat and certainly supporter number one.
Josh:
So thank you for listening to all these episodes and yeah it's just the last
Josh:
one i guess is the people it's all the people that have been here for like
Josh:
an eternity for supporting us for making this happen for giving us the platform
Josh:
to be able to talk about this cool stuff every single day and you just like
Josh:
you mentioned this is not the end this is the beginning of a new era and
Josh:
i'm so excited for what that new era holds because if you thought the last 16
Josh:
17 months were crazy like oh buddy buckle up for the next one so for all the
Josh:
people who have been here commenting
Josh:
every single episode. You show up every single day, four days a week,
Josh:
soon to be five days a week, and watch these episodes, engage with us,
Josh:
follow along with us. Like, oh my God, a tremendous amount of gratitude for all of you.
Josh:
One of the things that we've been in awe about for so long is just the quality
Josh:
of our comment section. Ejaz, we talk about this every day.
Josh:
We have the most thoughtful and interesting and productive comment section,
Josh:
I think, on the whole internet. I've been doing the same thing for a while. We have
Ejaaz:
The best side of YouTube by far i don't know how you guys found us but thank you.
Josh:
So like seriously from the bottom of my heart thank you for making it exciting
Josh:
for us there's a world in which
Josh:
we get the doomer people in the comments and they hate everything and it just
Josh:
becomes this hard thing to do but it's so motivating waking up and seeing the
Josh:
support every day and that has been so critically important to to making this
Josh:
into the thing that it is today and
Josh:
that is that is the the thanks i feel really just like
Josh:
grateful for the run, excited for where it goes next. And...
Josh:
Man, what a freaking journey, dude. It's been, it's been like absolutely insane.
Ejaaz:
It's amazing. And I'm going to miss you now. That's like, there's no other way to put it.
Ejaaz:
We are going to miss you, but you're always welcome back to the show whenever
Ejaaz:
you want to come in and be our armchair expert.
Ejaaz:
And let us know about, you know, future model releases that we can break maybe
Ejaaz:
before anything comes out.
Ejaaz:
But, you know, it's, I'm excited about this new version of the show.
Ejaaz:
And I'm excited to most importantly, keep bringing new folks content.
Ejaaz:
It has killed me it has killed us not being able to put out an episode for so long,
Ejaaz:
but we're back baby and hopefully you enjoy this new version of the show and
Ejaaz:

Ejaaz:

Ejaaz:
there are probably some people that have listened to almost all or most of our
Ejaaz:
episodes we want to hear from you guys, we want to give you guys a shout out
Ejaaz:
because we read every single comment,
Ejaaz:
we love you guys, we wouldn't be where we are today if it wasn't for you guys
Ejaaz:
and it's going to be the exact same case as we push forwards into the new frontier.
Ejaaz:
Of this show going forwards thank you guys so much for listening.
