As terrible blast that the rocks were torn loose, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind, there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. And after the earthquake, there was a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire, there was the sound of a gentle whisper. First Kings nineteen eleven and twelve.
Nancy Salley:Sometimes life can feel overwhelming. The noise and distractions of the world can drown out the still small voice of God. Elijah, in the midst of his own struggles, had to wait for God to speak, not in the storm, the earthquake, or the fire, but in the gentle whisper. Think about your current season. What are the storms or distractions that are loud in your life right now?
Nancy Salley:Take a deep breath. And as you exhale, ask God to help you hear his voice clear and steady above all the noise. In the silence, allow yourself to trust God with your struggles. Trust that his voice is not distant but present even when everything feels chaotic. What is God speaking to you right now?
Nancy Salley:It might not be a thunderous voice, but a whisper. Can you hear it? Imagine yourself standing on a quiet mountaintop surrounded by the gentle of nature. The wind begins to pick up, growing stronger with each passing moment. As it howls around you, you're tempted to listen, but you realize it's not in the wind that God will speak.
Nancy Salley:As the earth shakes beneath your feet, you feel the earthquake, but still God's voice is not in the tremor. The fire roars nearby, but still you wait, knowing it's not in the fire that you will hear his voice. Then in the quiet aftermath, there's a stillness. The noise has subsided, and you hear it. The soft, steady whisper of God's voice calling to you, inviting you to trust, to listen, to follow.
Nancy Salley:In this moment, you hear God's voice clearly calling you into a deeper trust. Feel the peace and assurance that comes from his presence. As you listen, his voice becomes more distinct, more clear, as if you're reaching right into the depths of your heart, asking you to trust him fully. Breathe in deeply. And as you exhale, release any remaining tension or fear.
Nancy Salley:Allow yourself to rest in the quiet trust that God is leading you. Reflect on this truth. God speaks to his people. His whispers are not to be ignored. They're an invitation to deeper trust.
Nancy Salley:Trust that when he speaks, he guides and leads you toward peace, hope, and a future. What is one thing in your life you need to trust God with today? Perhaps it's a decision, a relationship, or a fear that you've been holding tightly to. Release it to him. Just like Elijah, take a moment to be still and trust that God will lead you in his perfect time.
Nancy Salley:As you go about this week, may you continue to listen for God's gentle whisper in the midst of life's noise. Trust that he's speaking, guiding, and leading you toward his good and perfect will for your life. May his voice of peace and direction fill your heart with trust and hope each day.
