Welcome to Growing Pains. I'm your host ginger, join me and my best friends as we talked about growing up you trying not to break down

Unknown Speaker 0:40
Hey, everyone, thank you so much for listening to our very first episode of Growing Pains. I'm your host ginger Garcia.

Unknown Speaker 0:47
And I'm Kylie and we're joined by two very very special people. Yes. Yes. My name is Ileana. And I'm Gianna some like I said my name is Kylie I am a Capricorn we're going to start with that our signs

Unknown Speaker 1:04
we also do like one song that were like really from your spot stats what's your what's your top song of the week guys? Yeah, I'm not gonna pull that up but one song off the top of my head. I don't really ever really and to tell them by Miss Lauryn Hill. Oh, yeah, I saw you listen to it 14 times. Oh my god. airbox and that you listened to it 14 times on air but I want to do 14 More times just by them. Perfect. Okay.

Unknown Speaker 1:31
Oh, sorry. So I'm Ileana I'm also a Capricorn and I have a Gemini moon I think I should mention that

Unknown Speaker 1:41
Gemini MOON Okay, so then for songs that I'm like really listening to this week I'm just really into Adrienne linker this week like there's just something anyway Adria. Like any and not a lot just forever. Like, it just does something to me. But yeah, it's me. Um, great job.

Unknown Speaker 1:59
Yeah, I'm Ginger. Yeah, just to be honest term. Oh, I'm so sorry. Oh, no. Okay, fine.

Unknown Speaker 2:06
This is the clock we're doing. Okay. I I'm a Taurus and

Unknown Speaker 2:13
I feel so scared at this table right now. Since the one on me. Yeah, literally.

Unknown Speaker 2:21
But yeah, and my favorite song, honestly, because it just came out is Minsky's my love. Oh, my God.

Unknown Speaker 2:30
Like lyrically and like you freaking I

Unknown Speaker 2:36
do look at me, like I said a bad word.

Unknown Speaker 2:40
derogatory here American roots come out right now.

Unknown Speaker 2:45
It was raining earlier. We're joking about these good smelling

Unknown Speaker 2:52
smelling copper. I'm literally gonna go to the unit and it's gonna smell like sopping wet. Wait a minute aren't

Unknown Speaker 3:01
acquainted. Dogs.

Unknown Speaker 3:04
Gianna, please share? Oh, of course. I'm Gianna. I'm an Aries and I also have a Gemini Moon, which is we shouldn't be doing that. I think.

Unknown Speaker 3:15
Firstly, it gives us something to like, give us a character right? It's my evil trade. Yeah, it is our like most evil trait, but I think it like also makes us I wouldn't be me without my Gemini. It makes us funny. It gives us glare. It gives you a little some some stability something

Unknown Speaker 3:31
a little bit of mental illness. A little bit of something that I gave you definitely some

Unknown Speaker 3:38
and my top song for the week is probably always not strong enough by boy Jean. Oh, you're

Unknown Speaker 3:45
wearing a boy genius shirt right now. Which I am going to steal a number get back from she

Unknown Speaker 3:52
she I literally ordered it. Honestly. Okay, I'm done.

Unknown Speaker 3:58
I'm just gonna seal it.

Unknown Speaker 4:01
Up it up.

Unknown Speaker 4:05
Kylie, do kind of want to explain how you came up with the name. I did come up with a good name. By the way. I don't know how I even came actually I do remember how I came up with it. Um, literally, like the day before. I did like a journal entry and I wrote something along the lines of like growing pains. Or I don't know, that was just like the premise of it and still off the top of the dome. Ginger was like, Hey, we're gonna have a podcast so I was like, growing pains. Like I'm just so genius. Like I came up with it out of nowhere. No, the day before I was ready. It was funny though. Because when you said it I was like, so good. I was like, really? Well, I remember you posted on your story. It was like a picture of you crying and

Unknown Speaker 4:44
no, but like it like meant something because he put like, I think you put Scott Street. It was like a song. I think you were talking about like moving out and it was making you sad. I remember I asked you and it was just like you crying and it was like growing pains. I was like,

Unknown Speaker 4:57
written about it. He's going through it.

Unknown Speaker 5:00
I guess like the premise that goes along with that is that we are all freshmen. We me and Gianna and our friend Ashley, we are moving out on our own. Yeah, we're all doing this for the first time. We're all paying our bills, for the first time leaving our not leaving our family. You guys still live differently, but like a bunch of new things. I moved 10 minutes from my mom and I was like throwing up and cry. We were there. Yeah, we were there. But I guess like, that's something people who are freshmen and people who were freshmen and people just doing anything new, is something they can relate to. And it's just the demographic of it. Has that been his day like this podcast and pretty it sums it up. Thank you for listening. Anyone out there? Can Kylie coming up with that? Thank you for

Unknown Speaker 5:46
that, thank you. So it's really it feels

Unknown Speaker 5:49
truly thank you everyone for listening. And we hope that you can relate in some ways because it's scary. And I think oftentimes you can feel alone, but you got us You got us. And we

Unknown Speaker 6:02
are actually the worst people to talk to about this, but that's also why it makes it fun. I actually don't know like where I would be if I was doing all this without my friends like, I guess

Unknown Speaker 6:13
a Glock and

Unknown Speaker 6:16
I wonder who came up with that?

Unknown Speaker 6:20
I was gonna say credit.

Unknown Speaker 6:22
I'm literally gonna coin I'm gonna write it in half my name

Unknown Speaker 6:26
your senior quote

Unknown Speaker 6:29
locking

Unknown Speaker 6:31
Can we say that you've been before? I think

Unknown Speaker 6:34
that we probably

Unknown Speaker 6:37
do a tally mark every time Oh, I had the idea that every time we are like my shoulders tick tock we put like $1 in a jar. Oh yeah.

Unknown Speaker 6:47
Teenage girls are gonna be saying that

Unknown Speaker 6:50
we should replace it with I read and I read an article

Unknown Speaker 6:57
I happen to read something

Unknown Speaker 7:02
beautiful. I guess we could talk about how

Unknown Speaker 7:07
you guys so yeah, so it starts with Kylie or technically it starts with Ashley who's not here right now. But she was she don't need to be here.

Unknown Speaker 7:17
She's with us in spirit but she said Kylie first, like totaled her car. She actually just I'm not putting that

Unknown Speaker 7:28
I had to just drive her an hour and then drive back here. So I Yeah. For her.

Unknown Speaker 7:35
She rear ended gay people so he did that they were the sweetest lesbians ever lesbians from Washington, Washington. The most place we love the Washington nians

Unknown Speaker 7:47
The Washington Amiens Alright, I guess we'll start with having an Ashley met. So it all starts with a little girl

Unknown Speaker 7:56
I had just moved from California. SoCal. That's the That's my own.

Unknown Speaker 8:05
Only like that's my only personality trait I grew up in California. I loved it there. They dragged me by my all my arms and limbs and my hair. And that's core drove me here. Henderson, Nevada, not here, but like drove me to hundreds in Nevada, hated my life started the third grade. And I was so I was so so mad. That's my little quaint home over in Norwalk. And they dragged me to this this 100 degree place that I don't want to be here right? Like I hate you mom and dad.

Unknown Speaker 8:36
But in third grade, Ashley happened to be in my class Miss Santiago, I believe.

Unknown Speaker 8:44
We hated each other hidden. We two lovers, for sure.

Unknown Speaker 8:50
is a really common theme like hey, is why we didn't like each other. But I was friends with these girls. And she was friends with the same girls but we just we just didn't like each other. I think we talked about this a lot. I thought she hated me. And

Unknown Speaker 9:07
she thought I hated her. So I guess that's our like, that's so girl actually this female dog. I hate her. That's what we meant. Because

Unknown Speaker 9:16
God forbid

Unknown Speaker 9:18
we gotta come up with a fun little word because female though Yeah, but but I guess but obviously by the end of the school year became friends. My mom didn't like her. She thought she was spoiled. My mom didn't like her for a couple months. Ashley still thinks my mom don't like her but

Unknown Speaker 9:33
it's been like a decade.

Unknown Speaker 9:36
You live together. Fifth grade me and Ashley when we did fourth grade together as well. Yeah, Gianna was the same. Oh, we're in fourth grade. Let me finish let me just say this. She was in a different class and no

Unknown Speaker 9:50
friends. I didn't okay, I literally say really? No.

Unknown Speaker 9:56
Okay, I need glasses, curly hairs.

Unknown Speaker 10:00
So tell me so were you like show Were you okay?

Unknown Speaker 10:08
Right here I don't want anyone to like I don't want to ever talk about the way I look because oh guess who's just who's the same person as

Unknown Speaker 10:17
we are

Unknown Speaker 10:21
actually calls us the Twin Towers

Unknown Speaker 10:34
okay.

Unknown Speaker 10:37
Anyway, Oh, I did not go to the same school as them until fourth grade, which I went to a new school and I didn't know anyone and I had a really hard time with that. And my mom told me Oh, it's so easy to make friends just just say hi to anyone you know their name. And

Unknown Speaker 10:56
so I just, I just would say hi to everyone and Ashley and Kylie happened to be people I'd say hi to and they were like, who is like literally who is that? I think actually, I think Ashley was the one that remembered you but I actually was Ashley is a very thoughtful person and she'll remember everything about you every little thing about you.

Unknown Speaker 11:14
Fifth grade, I ended up in their class. I got put in the stupid kids class in fourth grade because I was new. But fifth grade I I flew my way up to the gate class gifted kids class.

Unknown Speaker 11:26
Away from where we all get kids. Wait, can I say something? Oh, what were we okay KitKat gate gate

Unknown Speaker 11:34
gifts, talented education

Unknown Speaker 11:37
to tags what is that talented and gifted?

Unknown Speaker 11:42
Oh, no, no, no. It was because you play the guitar? No, it was five points below being in gate

Unknown Speaker 11:54
the dumb gate class

Unknown Speaker 12:00
it was so mean like why did

Unknown Speaker 12:04
it so you know, close to be like I had a speech impediment though. Why? Sorry, I'm NOT gate for the speech kids.

Unknown Speaker 12:14
So that anyway, I got put in their class in fifth grade and I had nowhere to sit at lunch because once again, I didn't know anyone in that class. And Ashley said, she come sit with me and my friend Kylie and I said, Okay, I agree. Like, Kylie hated each other. I'm like, Okay, I'm a real I thought I was trying to steal Ashley away from her and that was my, my guns. Like, she hated me so bad. I remember because we were sitting outside in the courtyard and she was like, just gonna sit with us today. I went, who?

Unknown Speaker 12:48
Yeah, Kylie was so weird. And like she like did not like to talk to me and me and Ashley got to me actually got along very well. So and I remember the exact switch me and Kylie got paired up because Ashley was sick one day me and kind of got paired up to do a project together. Yeah, we made a little pinball machine out of a shoe box. And that was when I was like, Oh, okay. She cool. She could. We peeked in. We did peek in fifth grade. But shadow Newton was just like speed up because we also have to do it early on in jail. Yeah, or in ginger. But in between me and Kylie went to the same middle school. Ashley did not go to middle school with us. And then we met back up in high school. And then we got really close. I think high school is we got we got extremely, very we're always me and Kylie and Ashley were always extremely, very close. But we got even closer in high school. We all decided to move to a different school and they're out of state high school together. And I went on this trip to Knott's Berry Farm, amateur Nevada State High School, and

Unknown Speaker 13:44
I did too. That's crazy. And I roll that I really used to love which was also Ashley's one of actually Ashley's ex best friends went on the trip with me and she said Hey, you want to meet my friend ginger? And I was like yeah, who is this very crazy person ginger can explain was funny too. Because did you transition the girl I was that is like connected us? I knew her from church. Yes. I used to go to church and have a small group. Yeah. And she would talk to me about Gianna and be like, this girl is so mean to me. She's so evil

Unknown Speaker 14:21
love with me. She would like she would like paint you as this crazy person. Yeah. Oh, yeah, that was yeah, she was the evil one Don't get it twisted. Yeah, it was just weird and I hope you hear this. Yeah, and I hope you're out there listening.

Unknown Speaker 14:35
I know what you're doing today

Unknown Speaker 14:39
so proud of you by the way, by the way, so yeah, we go on the school trip I meet Gianna but from that trip we didn't really like talk much it was in didn't talk that much. But then like I saw ginger again at another school function and she she's very talkative so you can talk to her like super badass showing up? Yeah, and then go into how Yeah, go ahead gender

Unknown Speaker 15:00
So Bayes Oh yeah. Because they had the study skills classes and there were Gianna and ginger was in the sense I introduced Ashley to ginger. They met one. And then what did you guys do together? Ginger Ashley once and I was complaining because I was talking to her. I was like, I have no one to go to Phoebe Bridgers

Unknown Speaker 15:19
it was in

Unknown Speaker 15:21
a Greek theater and I was like, I have no one to go with. And Ashley was like, I like BB Bridgers. To say like that. Exactly. Like Exactly.

Unknown Speaker 15:31
Literally Exactly. Like that's her tone. So we take this random girl I met what like two weeks ago. We take her. I don't even think you hung out with her at all. No, like talk to her like, didn't you say another birthday party? By the way? You invited me first. I didn't. Also side

Unknown Speaker 15:50
was in love with KK Oh, no, I was in love. I definitely was not. I just thought I can't say that. She had a

Unknown Speaker 16:00
okay. She had a plumping behind.

Unknown Speaker 16:04
shallow, shallow Kylie. Obviously me and Kylie are buds buddies. He's actually the most ethnic person genders ever. Okay?

Unknown Speaker 16:16
Love you.

Unknown Speaker 16:18
Everyone needs to check me flip this. For context. I am half white, half Mexican. That is the most very, most adventure cinders ever gotten the most adventurous like,

Unknown Speaker 16:30
this girl was Irish and European. Okay. All right.

Unknown Speaker 16:34
But anyway, see ya. Oh, okay. But I basically take Ashley who I met a week ago to this concert with me like, state lines. Yeah. She drove in your car with your parents. It was so funny. And I guess Ashley told her parents. I was another Asian. Yeah, she told her he told her parents that ginger was a different Asian girl that we were no longer friends with so that they would let her go and they let her go. And they let her really they just they thought she was the other Asian girl. But um, shout out because I mean we became really good friends after that. And then ginger bought Conan gray tickets for like six months from that time so we had to like we had to stick with her she was like a week after me and ginger like became friends or I guess it was like, like texting or whatever. She bought me tickets to go see the Maria's for my birthday. Yeah, that's how I love. I love

Unknown Speaker 17:28
the dollar bureau.

Unknown Speaker 17:30
I will lady respect her and Lady Love it. Can we just say that? Makes sure you emphasize on that. Oh, so anyway, the lover is crazy. Your cover letter. Lady respected him very, very close.

Unknown Speaker 17:42
On all the time. And by that time, I had worked at the mall for about like a year. Yep. And Ashley was like, Oh, I kind of want to get a job at the mall, but I don't want to work at the same place. You work and I was like, okay, she's like, because I hate seeing Yeah, like every single day. That's how I volunteer

Unknown Speaker 17:59
to take over.

Unknown Speaker 18:01
Okay, so Appalachian. So Ashley starts working at American Eagle about a month before me like we weren't like there without each other for very long. So she starts working in like the beginning of August or July, I think. And then I get in there. August and she's there. You get your name in there. I get in there at American Eagle. Yep. And so Mr. Eagle, Mr. Eagle. So I actually was there on my very first day I still remember it to is August 26. So, Ashley, and that's our funder, bursary. And immediately Ashley is just like the nicest, coolest person there. So it's my first day of work like in my entire life. And this girl is like, hey, like, and I remember she literally she was just like, do you like Taylor Swift? And I was like, Yeah, I love Taylor Swift. And she was like, and that was that was all we needed. All it was all we needed. And then the

Unknown Speaker 18:52
big plan. Exactly, she was masterminding the hell out of me.

Unknown Speaker 18:56
So then yeah, literally every single shift after that, we would just like talk about Taylor Swift and we would close and we would play Taylor Swift and then like, we started like incorporating more like personal stuff. Like we were talking about boys and about school and she told me about her friends. And I was like, I was very like, weird time in my life. While I started working at American Eagle. Like I had zero friends. Liana had so many people in her life who were so evil to her like I literally had

Unknown Speaker 19:22
true friendship before. No, you weren't the

Unknown Speaker 19:27
one time you texted us and I think we're hanging out and you're like, I'm gonna be there like 10 minutes early like is that okay? Like please Oh, that's okay. Yeah. In and Out With Ileana and Ashley and she was like she went to go get a refill and she's like, oh my god I'm so I forgot to ask you as if you wanted to refill like I'm so sorry. And we're like, it's okay.

Unknown Speaker 19:48
They really did a number on you. Yeah. really did a number on me. So Ileana was also like also meant to be our friend because before she applied at American Eagle she applied at my job as well. I did I have

Unknown Speaker 20:00
I didn't take it away in July. And I was also at that same well, not the same Phoebe Bridgers concert that we, we talked about a second ago, out of state but we all attended the same concert. The same year, like seven, eight months prior to us like we were always at the same place. And ginger mentioned her church how she used to go to church and also in the same church as her we just had never met which is a funny little me on stage. I did I watched her performing everything I have a picture of her performing her I knew she was

Unknown Speaker 20:33
like eighth grade ginger, no doubt how to have been there. Yeah. Were you there? I was. I was part of the band that was playing No, because they were like the big band. But what we always said before was the invisible string. Yeah.

Unknown Speaker 20:47
80 trillion 1000 things that connected us even before we met so So Ashley and I work together like August to December and in December after like, months of me complaining about having no friends and having nothing to do and like my life just being school and work. She was like, she was like, Yeah, you shouldn't be my friends. Like, we're gonna go.

Unknown Speaker 21:06
We're gonna get Korean barbecue. You should come and I was like, You know what, okay, like, I'll do it. I'll do it. And I remember it was around Christmas time and you guys had all gotten presents for each other for like, what's that called? Like?

Unknown Speaker 21:19
Santa? Why just got everything. You guys all got each other gifts. And I thought that was super cute. And I walked in and I was so like, I felt like really bad because I didn't know that that was going on. So I was like, the only person that didn't like buy anything for someone else who like I didn't have anything. And ginger bought me a book she brought me like a it was a thrifted copy of Jane Austen book. Yeah. And she was just like he has to like we're doing like little gift exchange and I got you this oh my God literally the moment that she showed me the book I was like

Unknown Speaker 21:49
nice and tender relationships everything fell into place the moment that we sat down at that table like it was just like my like my life

Unknown Speaker 21:59
after that happened was like Ashley you need to make this Yes.

Unknown Speaker 22:04
So Gianna brought ginger actually bought Ileana I brought no one I've brought nothing to the table. You were like the stars start pulling our way. No pulling your weed anyone else? Like I'm Yeah, Kylie's gonna become back in her era of hating every new person and being there. See, I don't know why that was like a common theme when I was looking at Coleman. Everything Yeah, I knew about to me I'm really nice.

Unknown Speaker 22:28
I know we actually are all meant to be together because we have I don't know there's been like times where we're like me and Kylie and Ashley. We're like I don't maybe we just can't be friends with other people because we said that we knew before ginger just like was like Yeah, I can't be friends with you guys like I don't like feeling or like I guess like no like you're just so like, it's close like tightly knit like you just it's hard for other people to connect with us. Ginger Eliana boom boom, boom. Literally like

Unknown Speaker 22:56
that. I was really scared that considering the fact that you guys had been friends for like forever. Yeah, I fell in we actually know each other too. I was like the last I'm the last recruitment guys. So like, I got recruited last December. It hasn't even been a year but I got recruited last year and I was just like, there's no way that this is going to like work out for me like it felt great. But I was like, like do each other for so long. There's like no place for me like in it because it's all so tight knit like knit and then I just hit her spot. Yeah, yeah, I've known you guys. It's been like two years, I would say yes, junior year. It's crazy. Yeah, because I feel like I've known her since like July of 2020.

Unknown Speaker 23:36
Like that November, we're all just brothers. So we just fit really well together. Yeah, that gross stuff. Yes. Disgusting. And I know we'll probably delve into this. I feel like that's such like the short version that we have so much. There's so many like little like her invisible strings. But like how we talked about everything. It'd be crazy. Like if you laid it out, like Oh, it'd be outracing our me Gianna and Ashley went from graduating fifth grade to graduating high school to college to move in with us. Yeah, we just moved. I was gonna move Jen over the weekend. We're proof that true. Oh, yeah. roaches.

Unknown Speaker 24:20
Roaches roaches. Work Roach girls. Thanks for sharing that. Okay. We got rid of them. Okay, it wasn't our fault. Yeah. wasn't our fault people before us? Obviously smokers I cleaned the blinds because the blinds were like they had like, orange tint like people smell still smiling smoke doesn't rely Yeah, and that's just like a part. I just feel like it's gonna smell like that for a while. Regard like so upset. That place is such a little

Unknown Speaker 24:45
amazing. And when I was cleaning the blinds I found bite marks. Whoa, yeah, like a little kid by me.

Unknown Speaker 24:55
Yes, wrap it up, I guess. Oh, so again, thank you guys so much.

Unknown Speaker 25:00
