Full show transcript:

We're

back with a brand new episode of the podcast. Can you even believe that Labor Day Weekend is done? No.

I'm sad about it.

Hey, well, listen, one thing we didn't get to talk about on the show that you want to talk about here before we start this episode of the podcast is the hike that I took everybody on. And I was trying to look it up, and then I got sidetracked by shopping for a cabin in the woods, like I have money.

Because that's what happens. I went to look at a trail, and then I went, Oh yeah, I wanted to look at cabins because I want to I want a cabin in the woods really bad. Me too. Uh and anytime I spend time in the woods, I go, I want a cabin up here so I can just come up and enjoy the cabin. Uh anyway. That being said, I took everybody on uh a nice little three-mile hike. It was awesome. It was a nice little trail.

It was a really nice trail. Yeah. Um it was shady in a lot of spar spots. Like I don't necessarily love hikes where it's just in full sun the whole time.

Yeah, there was a little bit of exposure, but not bad.

It was great. And it ran along a little creek bed. It was it was a really nice hike. I would do it again. And I wanted to go further, but everybody was kind of over it by that point.

I marked the trail because I wanted to kind of see where we were. Um, and we were going up the South Teton Buck Mountain Pass Trail. Okay. Uh, is where we went. So we went to the Teton Canyon Trail, which is the same one you take if you were gonna go up to Table Mountain.

It was the same trail system. Okay. Uh but we did not go do that. Um, so we didn't do like the the Huckleberry Trail or any of that.

We kind of went toward the south and hiked for a mile and a half and turned around and hike back out. But it was real gradual. It was really nice. It was a good hike. I liked it.

Okay. Did you have a good time? Yeah, I had a great time. Yeah. Is that all you want to talk about? Well, I don't know. What do you want to talk about? You want to talk about trail etiquette?

Uh I just don't know what the trail etiquette is. I just sometimes we're on when you're on a shared trail with hikers and joggers and horse riders. It gets a little tricky. And uh we're all trying to use the same trail, and I don't know who has the right-of-way, but it feels like most of the time when you're hiking on a shared trail with horses, the horse riders feel like they own the trail. Yeah.

So here's the right-of-way guidelines. Okay. According to trail etiquette people online. Wheels yield to heels. Okay. Meaning uh, if you are on a bicycle or a mountain bike, you should yield to slower moving pedestrians and hikers. Okay. All users agree that hikers and cyclists must yield to equestrians because horses are easily startled.

Okay, I 100% agree. And I know that like there are circumstances where it's easier for a person or a biker to move to the side versus a person on a horse.

Totally understand that. Yes. Um, But the things that come out of horses. Yeah. Yeah. For sure.

And I looked that up. It says horse riders are not legally required to pick up or bag of horse manure in most public areas. I wish they would. But trail and road etiquette strongly dictates that riders should not leave manure directly on shared paths, trailheads or paved walkways.

They do. If it is safe to move it. Now, it's often difficult to pull over on the side of a trail and pick it up. But Not my problem. if you're a walker and you're trying to dodge this narrow, trying to walk this narrow path with rocks and their there's like a...

Tree roots. own. Yeah. You don't also want to dodge Road Apple. Yeah. That's what it's called. I just there's gotta be some.

And it says right here also keep your dogs on a leash and clean up all your pet waste, which we saw many, many, many dogs. Ours and one other dog on a leash. Every other dog free, no leash, which is also posted at the trailhead. All dogs on leech.

It got a little annoyed at one point and maybe got a little bit vocal. Well, it's ridiculous. It is kind of ridiculous because my sister is deathly afraid of dogs because she has been bitten. Yeah. And nobody cared.

They were like, oh, here's my dog, it's trained. But it doesn't matter. Right. You don't know how they're gonna react to everybody. You don't know how my dog is gonna react to your dog. Lee should be.

Keep your dog on a leash, clean up after your pets, clean up after your horses. All be nice and yield to horses. Mountain bikers have to yield to everybody. That's nice. I like that.

But you also have to do your part. Yeah, like I'm into you, but you gotta be do your part too. Yeah. Follow the rules.

If you want to know more about it, you can uh learn about share the trail. Share the trail. Anyway. Good three mile hike if you're looking for something fun. And that trail goes on and on and on, and eventually would end up at a spring in the Alaska basin. We didn't go that far.

We only did a mile and a half and then turned around and went back. But uh anyway. Here's today's show. I did forget one button. Uh oh. Just realized. But other than that one button. I remembered every button.

How many buttons do you actually have to push?

Well, there's a whole bunch of setup that has to happen, like to get everything kind of activated for the show. So I mean, there's several computer clicks that have to happen. Um, but then in inside the the control board here, there's let's see, one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, just to get things kind of activated. Then I have to go over here, do eight, nine, there's a good couple dozen different things I have to deal with just to get things rolling.

I told you that I'd be willing to learn.

Yeah, you did say that over the weekend. You want to sit in this chair on this side. I don't. And then hit the hit the red and the green.

But I think you said something that made me feel like I felt obligated to say what I said.

I said something that made you feel obligated to say that you would be willing to learn the the board. Yeah.

And that was I don't remember what you said now, but it was something along the lines of you should learn how to run the board. Oh, well, I've said that before. I know, but it was something I don't know.

Maybe there was a different intensity or something this time, but I certainly felt more obligated this time to learn how to do it. I see. I see. I'm pretty still.

Will that obligation stick? I don't know, Josh. Yeah, probably not. I had to guess myself. Say probably not. Well, anyway, uh Labor Day is done. Summer's over. Bring on pumpkins.

No. I mean, yeah, bring on pumpkins, but also when's the next time that we have a day off? Thanksgiving. Uh just like I really like. This is what I told my boss the other day. I said, I really like my job. I really like my co-workers.

Or the other places. Both. Oh, okay.

Both places. I have two jobs. I really like both jobs. I really like my co-workers at each place. But I really love my free time. That is true. And it's not that because they were like, you certainly complain about being at work all the time. I'm like, well, yeah, because it's a job. Right. Yes, I get paid, but it's not something I'm choosing to do. I want to do the things that I choose to do. I see. You see?

Well, look, they say uh choose a career you love and you never work a day.

That's uh listen. I love my jobs. Yeah. I'm still working. It's still a job. Still a job. Yeah, nah, I know.

And it has its days. I get it. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

I just like having days off. Man, oh man, I love days off.

Well, it's weird because it's a Tuesday, that's a Monday. Right. So here we go with a short week that's gonna feel weirdly long, I bet. It is gonna find. I think I like having a Friday off more than a Monday. Yeah? Yep. Why said I like to kick it off sooner? Uh-huh. Okay.

Oh, I do have a day off coming up soon. Oh, do you? Yeah. Good for you.

All right, some good news for you. This story uh is out of Vermont. You know what Vermont has? Maple syrup. A lot of trees. Canada has maple syrup. I mean, Vermont, are they uh well known for their maple syrup?

Is that a thing? I think uh you look that up while I tell you this story uh that comes from Jericho Vermont uh back in 2019, so a few years ago. Eric Axelrod. Whoa, cool name. Right? He's from Jericho, Vermont, and he started chopping firewood to blow off some steam.

Yes, Vermont produces the most maple syrup in the United States, making over half of the country's total supply. Where's it come from? Vermont. The syrup. What did I say? I said maple syrup. Where's it come from? The syrup?

Yeah. It comes from I don't know. There's a farm.

What kind of farm? Oh my gosh. With your story. No, hold on. This is important. They come from it comes from a maple tree. There you go. Trees. Yeah. You know what Vermont has? A lot of trees.

Yeah, that's why I could figure out what you were getting at. Where's it come from? A maple tree.

Byproduct of the trees they have in Vermont. Sorry. Is all I was trying to get to was the tree part. Go ahead. So this guy. Axel rod from Jericho Vermont. He started chopping wood to blow off some steam. Oh no. We're gonna get a tree thing back here so we can chop some wood to blow off some steam. Seems like a good idea.

Grab an axe and chop it some wood. Okay. Sounds very good.

Like a good thing we need. He invited his neighbors to share the wood. Uh and uh he said, Hey, look, if a tree falls down, we'll come pick it up and we'll chop it up. I want to chop wood, I've got aggression issues, and I need to chop wood.

So he then said uh to his sons Devin and Logan, he said, Hey guys, let's go get these trees. We're gonna chop some wood. We got aggression, we need to chop this wood. Gotta blow off steam. Chop this wood, right?

Yeah. So the pile got so big that Eric's wife said, Hey, why don't you give this wood away? You get too much wood. You've been chopping all this wood. You should give this wood away. So that idea became what they call wood for good.

The number four. Wood for good. It's a nonprofit that provides free firewood to Vermonters in need. And now with the help of volunteers, five different tree services donating wood to wood for good. And again, they still will. If you have a tree fall down, they'll come get it and chop it up and use it for wood for good.

They have delivered hundreds of cords of wood to more than 900 families, many of them seniors in Vermont. That's great. Eric says it's uh it's it's just simple. He said, No Vermonter should have to go cold in the winter.

No, so they deliver uh no one should have to go cold in the winter. No one, not just Vermont or herself.

Well, I know, but that's that's where he can control it. I get it. Wood for good could start up uh all over the place, and that would be a lot of wood for good. Well, that's a nice story, isn't that cool? That is very cool. Plus Eric Axelrod, man, what a I know, that's a cool name. That is good news.

You last night nudging my pillow, shaking my pillow. Hey.

I needed to jostle a pillow. A couple of different times.

How many times did you jostle my pillow?

I I tried a couple of times to just like touch a little bit of your face to see if that would do it, and it did nothing.

What do you what do you touch a little bit of your face?

Well, I was trying to be uh polite, kind, gentle, because I think the position that you were you were on your back, and then you had your neck and chin work down into your hair. Okay, like this. And I think it was pinching off your airway. And I was like, I was not having it.

I don't make those noises. I'm a lady.

I should have recorded it.

I should have recorded you because you were.

Hold on, this is not a competition. Okay. So I was I thought maybe if I like brush her face, nice. She'll like go, oh, and turn her head to the left. And it'll unkink the neck. And it didn't work.

So then I thought, I know what I can do. If I move her pillow to that side, her head will roll and it'll. So I was trying to use physics to get your head to unkink your neck. Because the air was choked off. Okay.

And did that work? Well, you tell me.

Because apparently I jostled your pillow a few times trying to move your neck.

It worked, I guess. Did I continue to snore after that? Yeah. You did. Okay, let's talk about you. What about me? Um You went to get testing done. Yes. You were not sleeping well. You were snoring. I was jostling a lot of your pillows every night. That's right. And then you went to get testing and you got yourself a fancy mask.

that you're supposed to wear Every night. Yeah. And you do not. Well, I fell asleep without it.

You always fall asleep without it. And then I say to you, hey Josh, do you want to put on your mask? And you say, Mm-hmm. Yep. And then you don't. And then I say, Hey Josh, how about you put on your mask? And you go, put on a mask. And then That's what I hear. And then you don't. Put on your mask.

And then hours and hours and hours later, I'm still like, you still don't have a hours and hours and hours. Barrow. Barrow. I told you to put on your mask about one o'clock. Yeah. Four o'clock later.

Four in the morning. Yeah. You were telling me to put on the mask. And I said, what's the point now?

We have to wake up and about the biggest. That's what I was saying. But you were you were making some noises. Yeah. And I couldn't, I couldn't even. So you gotta remember to put on your mask.

Here's the thing though. I don't want to just hang out in my mask.

I understand, but you're going to fall asleep. So you it's eventually. How soon did you fall asleep when you got into bed? Pretty quick. No. Did you finish that dumb movie I started?

I finished that and watched an entire documentary that was four episodes long. Whoa.

You did not go to bed. You should have.

I was very awake. What documentary? A whole thing about Burning Man. Oh no, thank you. It was really fascinating.

Okay, well, maybe next time just put on your mask when you get into the bed.

I'm not gonna do that because I'm not gonna hang out in there for a whole documentary.

Then you gotta set yourself a reminder. An alarm of some kind.

Set an alarm. Bro. What I need to do is when I because I turned off the TV and I went, I'm just going to bed. Smart. That would have been the point where I would have been like, put on the mask. Yeah. Yeah. But I was like, I'll just lay here for a minute. Oh. And then put on a mask happened.

I was very nice because ever since I said that, and I admit I did say it like that. Yeah. I know. I've been nice. And I go, I touched your arm all nicely. Yeah.

So hey Josh. No, you didn't. I did so.

No. I did. So I said, hey. Hey. Let's put out a mask.

Is that right? And I went, yes, dear. You didn't. No said, okay.

Okay. And you did it. And I went, oh. Well, I did eventually. Mm-hmm.

At four in the morning. Yeah, right. we went camping over the weekend in Victor Idol. Oh, that is correct. And there's a little bike path that'll kind of take you into town a little bit. And we like to take that little bike path. And we decided to take a little bike ride. I mean, it was sunsety. And I've determined that biking in the mountains at sunset is my favorite thing.

And going downhill. Oh, yeah, coasting. Right.

When I say bike ride, uh, we were just coasting.

Yeah. Going downhill on your bike is nice. Yeah. I had a good cruise going, and then you were like, you should turn left here. And then I went, I have to pedal now. I was bummed out. I'm sorry. Because I had a good downhill cruise going.

That was my idea to turn left. I was just the messenger from the people behind me. There was no reason to turn left. I know. I know.

I did like I told you, it wasn't my idea. Yeah. Well, then I had to pedal again.

And then we determined that there was a speed limit. What was it? A speed limit?

Well, there is there's a sign that tells you how fast you're going because the speed limit changes from highway speeds down to 35. And so they put up one of the signs that has a digital readout of how many miles per hour you're traveling, and if you're going faster than 35, it it flashes. Slow down. Uh so that you you don't know how to do that.

You just did. So we did that on our bikes.

So we decided, yeah, we said, let's see how fast we can pedal. Uh how quick we can go. You did good.

You got 20 miles per hour.

I did get for a very brief moment, I got 20.

Your first round was 16. And then you did it again.

And I said, No, I think better. I know I can go

for a well, there was a car that got in here when you were like the car messed me up.

Well, it was going the other way, and it blocked the radar from seeing me during my fastest point of acceleration. So I was I was aggravated. So I turned around, I did it again. Yeah, I hit 20. And then you went and you got thirteen. Thirteen.

I'm pretty stoked with this feet. That was fast. I was pretty I was pleased.

Did you adjust your gears so that you were getting more power out of your pedals? No. Oh.

I didn't do anything differently. I just pedaled really fast.

If you would have changed gears, you could have pedaled uh less fast and gotten more speed. I could have. Dang it. Yeah. I didn't think about that. That's a little bit harder to get going, but you can your pedal power is maximized. Yeah.

There was a house as we were doing this, and the guy came out to move his sprinkler. And he goes, I didn't know that that could calculate speed for people. And I went Yeah.

I I mean, how would you not be out there every day just playing with it to see if you were improving your personal best?

I would. I wanted to keep doing that, but everybody in our party was like, no, let's go back. And I was like, no, I can beat 13. I know I can. I want to keep doing this. And they said no.

I didn't hear that conversation. I would have let you run it again.

My sister did not participate. And I said, Why didn't you want to participate in seeing how fast you could go on your bike? She said, I was afraid I was gonna crash. It's a straight path.

It's a sidewalk.

Like it's to pedal really fast and go straight. How are you gonna crash?

If you think I run away from danger, I am well.

She doesn't even change the gears on her bike. She found the one that's comfortable and she just leaves it there. She's like, This is the speed I go. Like I'm locked in. She is very much like, nope, this is the thing I do, and I only do this thing, and it will never be different than this thing.

And don't do that because that's too scary. And I've never done that before. And because I've never done it before, it's just too scary. Right. She is old. She is old. Wow.

So much older than you. Well, you guys, you and my brother-in-law will ask her to do something, and she'll be like, no. And I'll be like, I'll ask her to do it. I'll be like, come on, I want to do this thing. And she'll be like, all right. She doesn't want to, but because I'm gonna do it, she'll be like, okay. We went for a hike, and she was like, I don't want to go. And I was like, Yeah, we do. And she was like, All right. All right, I'll go. Well, let's go for another bike ride at sunset. It's my favorite thing. I'll find a downhill. Okay.

And we'll drive, we'll park, we'll ride down the hill, and then you're gonna need another vehicle at the bottom. Yeah, that's okay. Otherwise, we have to go uphill. Dang it. And I'm not here for that. No, I'm not. for that. I notice you're wearing your sports sweater. Because you like sports. One of those sports that you like is pickleball.

Yes. I do like, I do really enjoy playing pickleball.

Now, do you like pickleball or do you just like running around the court hitting the ball? Because I we went to the pickleball courts over the weekend. Uh-huh. No one kept score. No. No formalities at all. No. Tons of conversation. No actual competition in here. It was mostly just you and your sister having a conversation. Emery and I wishing we were playing real pickleball.

And there was a couple of times I was like, all right, are we gonna get serious? And it didn't happen.

Yeah, that's you guys didn't want to take it seriously either. My point is, we didn't really play pickleball.

No, but you ran around the court. You were like, I'm gonna get all these stray balls and pick up these stray bowls. Yeah. That's what you did.

You were in the middle of a conversation, so I felt like I had time. No, I we could have gotten serious, but you I don't know. You and I were on a team. and you And you yelled at me for missing one once, and then you were all over the court, and then you went, where were you? And I went, What do you mean? I'm confused about which part of the court is mine. Only when you choose, got it. Okay. Sometimes you're over in my quadrant.

I was doing pretty good at pickleball. Is that right? I was. I told you once I got warmed up, I'd be so good.

That's what you just kept saying. And then And then when you had a good volume, you're like, now I'm warmed up. And then right after that, there'd be a bad one, and you'd go, I just need to warm up. This makes no sense.

The problem was we didn't get serious enough. Oh, is that right? If we had just kept playing a little bit longer. Plus, also it was a little bit warm that day, so I was getting a little bit overheated.

Yeah, I don't know who stopped the game. All of a sudden it was like we were done in the and leaving. Oh, was she over it?

she was not into it anymore. I see. Yeah, she runs the world. Well, yeah. So she didn't know.

I missed how the games ended. It was just all of a sudden everybody was like, Well, we're done here. And I went, I guess we're out.

Emory said, I'm tired. And I went, You're tired. I didn't even want to come play pickleball. We had just gone on a three mile hike. I was pooped. I said, let's just go take a nap. And she was like, No, let's go play pickleball. And I went, Okay, I guess we're going to play pickleball. And then all of a sudden she said, I'm tired. And I went, I guess we're going to take a nap. She is the one that determines what we do. Yep. Because if not, she gets real cranky.

Well, it was fun playing with you anyway. It was fun. I had a great time. I enjoy playing pickleball. Yeah, it was. It was it was a fun time. We we had the wind in our face.

Yeah. And then every time they hit a ball that was like too far or went off to the side, they would go, Oh, it was the wind. The wind is in your favor. What do you mean the wind? We're going against the wind, as the song says.

I will say, we do not play by the rules because we just want to hit it.

That's what I'm saying. We weren't actually playing.

No, so when it's like, oh, you gotta get it in the kitchen.

No, you don't go in the kitchen.

Oh, you gotta let it bounce. Who cares? Just hit it. If it comes in your area, hit it. Overhand, underhand, who cares? Just hit it. Just have some fun. Rules are so dumb.

And that's why your sweater doesn't say a sports team. It doesn't say football. It just says sports.

Woo. Do you want to tell the story or do you want me to?

I will tell this story because this was a little bit of a scary story. And I and I want to try to not be super angry about it, but I also have a public service announcement in here somewhere. Uh, and uh to whomever lost the charcoal grill that ended up underneath our truck on the way to camping. It's no longer usable.

Here's the story. We're leaving town to go camping for the weekend and uh headed out the highway, and uh it's dark ish, like we didn't get out of town until close to 8 39. Right. Uh on Friday evening. We were running behind schedule, but there was a lot going on. I was out at uh Al's sporting goods, uh, which is a fine place to be for a good afternoon. Uh and so by the time we got everything, everybody home from work and loaded up and and departed town, it was a little later than we had hoped, I guess. I was hoping to get out about an hour before we did. Nonetheless, it was pretty dark driving down the road, headed down the highway. I'm on the inside lane of the four wide, and uh I see what looks like a black garbage bag in the middle of the road. I've already spoiled what it was, but it wasn't a garbage bag.

No, it was certainly wasn't. I thought that's what it was too. Yeah.

And uh, and so here I am just cruising along, and uh, and then the garbage bag made a crunchy noise, and then a whole bunch of scraping, and then uh apparently, according to the kids who were in the car behind us, a bunch of sparks were flying, which was I bet looked cool. I bet it looked cool. It didn't feel cool. No, it made a noise, it was not very cool. And uh, and so uh after the noise quit and the charcoal grill went tumbling underneath the vehicle, and then out from behind us, we got over to the shoulder. Uh our son got out of his car, grabbed the grill out of the road and took it over to the shoulder that got behind us, and then he thought it was were out of the road. yeah, he thought it was something.

Oh, I gotta stop and get that. That fell out of my dad's truck. Yeah, no, no, no, it was laying in the road, and you didn't have time.

Oh, I had no time to move over. I had no time to like slam on the brakes before I hit it. And I honestly, by the time I saw it, a black thing in a black road at night. By the time I saw it, there was no avoiding it. Yeah, like it was it was going to be hit by the truck.

And I thought, look, I'm in a high clearance vehicle, like this. If it's a garbage bag, I'm gonna there's garbage is gonna go everywhere. It was not a garbage bag. garbage bag. It was not garbage.

Uh so the PSA is this. If you're well, one, if you're missing your charcoal grill, I know where it is. It's on the side of the road, and you lost it in the middle of the road.

And you said it looked like it was almost brand new. Oh, it was like you could tell it was it was pretty new. Not anymore. Sorry, not anymore.

It's folded like a taco. It is no longer a usable charcoal grill. Uh but the PSA is this. If you're going to carry stuff in the back of your truck, because this was very likely in the back of a truck and caught wind and flew out, or somehow this thing ended up in the road outside of a vehicle. You have to secure your load. Like you just have to tie everything down, put a cargo net over it.

Make sure your stuff is not gonna fly out. Yeah, because that was unsafe. Oh, terrifying. If I was a motorcycle, insane. If I was a low profile car, if I would have been in the other lane and our kids would have been in that lane by themselves, way different experience. I've got a tall vehicle with a skid plate. Like I I was equipped to hit the charcoal grill. It wasn't fun. I've got a dent in my skid plate and a nice little scratch down it, but that's what that piece of metal is there for. That is not the case for all other vehicles.

So please low profile table.

Please make sure your stuff is tied down. And also if you lost your grill, sorry for your loss. But also not sorry. Because it's destroyed. Yeah. And that was very dangerous for us. Yeah. And that is what I have to say about is there anything more to say about it? No.

No. It lost a wheel. I don't know where the wheel went. The grill? Yeah, it only had one wheel on it, and it was taco shaped by the time I saw it on the side of the road.

Yeah. That grill's toast. Done.

There were a couple of guys who stopped just to make sure everything was cool. Thank you for stopping.

I appreciate that. We're all good. Yeah. I for a minute we thought it was your grill. And it might have been. Oh, the dudes that stopped.

Yeah. Yeah. They might have been like, oh man, we lost it. lost our grill.

Well, and then they stopped and they were like, oh this is so bad.

We're not taking ownership of that. That's not our grill. Oh, that's a bummer. Yeah, I don't know. Anyway. Anyway. Yeah, just make sure your stuff's tied down.

And also just be safe. Everyone, just be safe. Yeah. Yeah. Please. Scary out there. Yeah, please, please tie your stuff down. Thanks. Is there anything worse than you go to a pool and you have your swimsuit underneath like your clothes? Maybe you put some, put your swimsuit on, and you've got like a t-shirt and some shorts over your swimsuit. And then you walk down to the pool, and there are people already in the pool or in our experience, the hot tub. And then there's people there. And you have to like turn around, like take off your clothes to reveal your swimsuit. Is there anything more awkward than that? It feels so awkward. Why does that feel so weird? Um it's so I'm not sure.

I don't have the same issue.

Vulnerability of it, maybe. Like you're just there and you're kind of stripping down to your swimsuit, and it feels very much like yep, marriage.

Yeah, I don't have like I just take off my shirt and then I get in. Because I'm just wearing my swim trunks, but it's not that big a deal. Oh. Like I don't that's just part of getting in the pool.

It just feels awkward to me for some reason.

Like I throw my towel down, I take my shirt off, I kick off my shoes, and I'm in the pool. I don't know why it feels weird. Unless I'm at a place that has a shower, like a proper pre-wet, in which case I'm gonna just not have my shirt on already. I'll hang my towel over the bar on a hook, I'll pre-wet, grab my towel, I go out to the pool, and then I'm swimming. So it just depends, like the situation.

But then it's just as awkward getting like once you're in the pool or you're in the body of water, the hot tub or the whatever, you're done that, and then getting out is just as weird, if not weirder, because then you have to tie yourself down, and you're like, this is weird in front of all these people.

Have you seen this trend on uh online in these videos where they're like, show me how you towel off after a shower? No, I am oh have you seen you haven't seen this? No, it's strange. People do weird stuff when they towel off.

Like they like the hand you a towel, you're fully clothed, and they go, okay, show me how when you get out of the shower, how do you towel off? Okay, I'll tell you. No, I know, but you gotta film it. Like, that's the whole point. You gotta have a towel because people like people do like back shoulder things.

Yeah, I do that. You have to zessfully clean yourself. Is that right? Yeah, because you're not fully clean. No, correct. You gotta get that towel. I do right leg dried off first, left leg. You do legs first. Yes.

I'm gonna tell you why that's the wrong thing. Why? Which way does gravity work? Start at the top and dry your way down. Why are you drying from the bottom up? That's weird.

No, because you gotta step out of the shower, and so you gotta do your legs first so that you're they're dry when you step out of the shower.

That is this is why this is a fascinating weird thing. Everybody does their thing different. I've never in all my days thought dry my legs first. What do you do? My head and face Well, I do my hair.

I have a hair towel, and I do that first because that's gonna just drip, drip, drip. Yeah. So I do it.

I started the top and work my way down. And then legs. And then it's no big deal. I do head, face, shoulders, arms, chest, back, then legs and feet before I step out, so I don't slip and fall down. Head shoulders, knees, and chairs. And then I put the towel around me and uh vamus.

And you gotta do your back. I said that. Oh. You gotta zest so clean. Not quite. I don't zest fully clean. I do. That's a very non-timely reference. So for a whole there's generations of people who have no idea what that means.

I don't even use that type of soap, but I know that commercial enough to know I got a zest fully clean. Yeah. Because you're not fully clean. Unless you're zestfully. What a jingle. Interesting. I did not know everybody towed off differently, but of course they do. Right. But it's a very personal private thing.

And everybody does it their own way. Yeah. So ask a coworker. Hand them a hand a towel and go, how do you towel off? Show me. Yeah. And you're gonna go, what? And if you haven't seen those videos, it's a good watch. It's a good time.

Because you'll you'll learn things about people you didn't even know you didn't know. People are strange when they towel off. Yeah. You go, you do your legs first, huh? Okay.

Who cares? Do it how you want to do it. There's no right or wrong way. Yeah, I do my legs first. Don't tell me I'm wrong. Now you've upset me.

Okay. Emory sent me an Instagram video the other day, and it was uh I think the woman said, I'm 50 years old, and here's my wardrobe. Ah, yes. And I said, Emory, why are you sending me these types of videos? Like these are in your algorithm, obviously, and then you're sending them to me, but why are you got 50-year-old wardrobes in your algorithms? And she goes, because you sent me once and I watched it.

And so now her algorithm is full of 45 to 50 year olds.

year old. Middle-aged woman fashions.

In the video, this woman has a tool, and it's called, let me look it up really quickly.

It's like a hemming uh tool, right? Yeah. Yeah. And it's a little gun.

It's a handheld stitch gun. Yeah. And you can quickly use it to fix hem and repair a variety of fabrics. So the woman in the video was using it. She had a pair of pants that were a little bit too long. Yeah. It's like a staple gun almost, but with stitching.

Does it use a thread or is it using a little plastic thing? Because it looks like the same uh little gun that they use in clothing retail to attach tags, uh like sales tags. Yeah, yeah. It's the same kind of gun. Yeah, it's the same little plastic uh tagging gun. Yeah.

Uh fine needle, gentle on cloth. Um, you put in the needle. Yep. Uh, you make sure the little grab your and you've okay, hold on. Sorry. That's fine. But she was using a little tag thing.

Is it plat a little plastic? Yeah. I th I think it would be. But then you can use the same. Cut it out. Yeah, but but if you wanted to like bunch a shirt up in the in and make it like a fitted shirt, like she was doing that. She was doing uh like a you could put a pleat in your pants. Yeah. She was doing all kinds of stuff. And I want one. Yeah. Really bad.

Oh, I really want one of those. And Emory said, I'll find you one. And she goes, Goldang! It's cheap.

Yeah, because it's uh what, 20 bucks or something? Yeah. Yeah. Goldang. That's what she said. From the other side of the camper. She said that. And gall dang, it's cheap too. Okay. A bargain.

I just like that she's sending me middle-aged wardrobe videos.

Yeah. Yeah.

Because I think what happened was

she's always been into fashion, our daughter. She's always been a little bit of a stylish girl, even when she was little.

And when she was little wearing a swimsuit with snow boots and and swim goggles. Yeah, and I mean, she's a crazy person. What do you mean she's always been a little bit on she's always been into like do your own thing, be your own self. Yeah. Yeah.

But she I said I sent her a video and I said, I really like this lady's fashion. And she watched that whole video, and now she's getting like, oh, look at this 48-year-old's fashion. Look at this 45-year-old's fashion. Right. No, I see it all the time. Because I watched that one dumb video you sent me. Yep. I appreciate it, Emory. Thanks. Good looking out. Yeah.

Kingdom stylist. Cheap too. Gold dang.

We were in uh a hot tub over the weekend at this place where we were camping, and you know how we like you're in a hot tub with other people, and everybody's kind of having their own like private conversations, and that's fine. There was a couple in there.

So it was me and you, my sister and brother in law and our daughter. Right. And we were kind of in our own little group. Yeah. And then uh a man and a woman came, and then they just started chatting with us, which was fine. But also sometimes you just don't want to make stuff.

Yeah, like I'm in the hot tub. I'm just relaxing. Yeah. Yeah. Like I'm trying to just enjoy the cool night in the hot tub before it rains. Like just leave me alone.

But how do you say that to somebody? You're like, and most of the time I'm happy to chit chat.

But I I think of at some point in our life over the next five to ten years. We're gonna become blunt. And I'm just gonna say, not interested in this. I'm not I'm not interested in having this conversation.

Because it was just like, where are you from? What are you doing? Great, like just small dogs.

Yeah. I just I'm just here to relax.

Most of the time I don't mind, but I'm also Let's just not talk. Yeah. I kind of just wanted to say, hey, I just don't wanna just don't wanna.

Hey, it was good chatting with you there for that 13 seconds. I'm gonna be over here now, silently. Uh have a nice soak. Yeah. Yeah.

So my sister actually was the one that was keeping the conversation going a little bit. And she kept kicking me underneath the water. And I was like, I don't like I thought she was kicking me to send me like a message of like, you ask a question.

I was like, I don't want to. Right. And so I just wasn't responding. I was just like, no, stop. And then she kept kicking me. And then later I said, Why'd you keep kicking me? And she goes, I wasn't. I said, Yeah, you weren't. She goes, No, that was just my legs floating. Control your legs.

What do you mean? It's just my legs floating. Control your legs. Yeah, exactly. I didn't hear that conversation. I wish I would have been there so I could have told her to control her legs. Yeah, she just said. Those are my legs floating.

Just floating around with a little bit of force. Control your legs. Anyway, yeah, I think okay. What if you were the person that was like trying to chat with somebody in the hot tub and they go, Oh, you know what? It's like I'm sure.

not going to start that conversation.

Wonderful people, but we're just not really into chatting. Right. Would you be offended? Or would you be like, Oh, I appreciate your honesty. Have a wonderful evening.

They they came to the pool, and here's what happened. Uh she had brought like uh like an ice water mug thing and set it down by the rim of the of the uh hot tub.

Right. And then said to the man she was with, I am so glad I brought towels. I I knew that towel thing where they have the towels was gonna be empty, so I I would that was really smart of me to bring towels. And you replied, yeah, it was.

Well, she said it so loud that she was talking to all of us. Correct.

And that's what started the conversation. So I'm the ruiner. I mean, it could have all been fine, but you were like, Oh, she's talking to the the whole tub. And I'm part of that. So you're like, yeah, good idea. Her level of volume.

I understand was very much like I'm talking to

the I was not gonna reply to

that, but I also had my back turned.

I know, so I didn't see what direction her face was.

I understand, but I was like, that's not for me.

It was just loud enough that I went, Oh, yeah, good idea.

Also, it was just a statement. So there was not like a like there was no need to interact. So I would have been fine just being like good for you.

What happened was that I left the hot tub before I wanted to because I didn't want to have the conversation anymore. And so I just went, Oh, it's kind of hot in here. I'm gonna leave.

Yeah, my I got wrinkly fingers, time to go. You ruined it.

Those people ruined my hot tub experience. You said this to me yesterday, which I thought was so rude. You could try not munching. Right.

And is the reason that you think it was a rude thing to say because I was uh suggesting that you didn't snack. Right. Or that I was struggling with the misophonia of the crunching.

Let me tell you that I wasn't even crunching very loudly. I was very much not even enjoying the snack to the best that I wanted to because I knew that you were gonna be annoyed by the minimal amount of crunch it had.

It's weird you say minimal. It's a Reese's pieces. It was a handful of Reese's pieces, and they are crunchy. They have a much thicker, harder candy shell than MMs. Disagree. They are are disagree. They are uh quite crunchy as far as chocolate covered candies go.

Okay, but I also was letting them soften in my mouth a bit, and then I would kind of that only works on Skittles.

Do you know how long you would have to leave those in your mouth? A lot longer than you did. Because they were still crunchy. And listen, it isn't, it isn't necessarily your fault, other than we were in a vehicle. Uh huh. We were stopped in the vehicle, and there wasn't enough ambient noise to mask the crunching. So you should have turned up the radio.

Yeah, there was something going on. There was a reason I didn't, but you suggested that I should fill the vehicle with more noise, and I said, or you could try not munching. And you said, no, there's snacks to be had. I will munch on. And then you had like a small handful left.

Yeah, I said, and you said, I'll just hurry and do this. And I said, just enjoy them. And you went, yeah, yeah. I don't sound like that. I know.

But also, we were kind of stuck in traffic, and there was nothing left to do, but snack, yeah.

Might as well. What am I gonna do?

I didn't have a lot of service. My battery on my phone was about dead, so I couldn't even doom scroll. I had to snack. It was the only thing to do. And the snack that was to be had was Reese's pieces. I know. Not very crunchy at all. Very crunchy. You have just a very bad case of misophonia. Yeah. It's insane. Don't eat around Josh. I can hear you chew. I know you can, and you are never.

I'm not saying I'm collectively. I can hear people chewing.

And he doesn't like it. And he's not afraid to tell you he doesn't like it. So you better change your behavior because he's not gonna what is my behavior?

Listening, hearing. What is my behavior that I that I'm not changing?

Just being an all-around grump fish.

Oh, that's that's what the kids came up with. Grumpfish. You brought grumpfish to the show.

When Emory is cranky, our son from a very young age said, Why are you being a grump fish? And that has stayed. But you were a grump fish in the car when I was trying to eat my Reese's pieces. Just minding my own business.

Not when, because of.

Mine and my own business. They were very related. Were you upset because they didn't offer you any?

No, because I didn't want any. You did offer some to me, and I said no multiple times. I didn't want Reese's pieces. Could have used a snack. Perhaps. I think that's your whole problem.

If you were also snacking while I was snacking. Yeah, but I didn't want that snack. Well, get a different snack. From where? Doesn't matter.

I don't have accessible snacks at my fingertips.

That's your problem, not mine. I make sure I always have a snack.

You should get a softer snack. But I like the crunchy snack. I'm gonna tell you what snack you should have. A dinner roll. No, because then there's a spoon scrape. Dinner roll. Fine.

I like I like rolls. No butter. it. That's okay.

Because there will be a tub scrape with a knife.

Oh, geez, Louise. You're a lot of fun. You're a lot of fun to travel with. That's right. Road trip snacks. Make yourself as quiet as mashed potatoes. You'd get mad about that. Because there's a tub scrape.

Don't put them in a tub, especially not styrofoam. What are What are you gonna put them? In your hand. Hand potatoes.

Forget about it. I'm never having a snack again. Not in your presence. Look at me in my face. Nope. Because yeah, right.

That's what I say to that statement. You're never having a snack again in my presence. Never. Yeah, right. Yeah, right.

I was gonna wear a cute um skirt because the days of summer dresses are long passing. Um so I was gonna wear a cute little skirt today, and then I looked at my legs in the mirror and I went, no, it's not that, because at a bit of a crash over the weekend.

Now you call it a crash, but it was uh you were standing still and then weren't on the uh vertical side of things. You were on the horizontal side of things. You were standing holding your bike. You had uh cross just standing there. Yep. And was it a swift wind? I don't know. Something knocked you down.

I really couldn't tell you. I one minute I was standing there, the next I was a tangled mess on the ground with my bike.

And I was trying to help untangle you, but then you kind of like rolled a weird way to get off your bike. So I didn't have a chance to even really kind of help you out because you were just in like a hurry up and move kind of mode. I was kind of suspended,

and everybody came over to help, and I said, I haven't even hit the ground yet. Hold on. You can't help me because I haven't even fully No, I understand. Hit the ground. I was kind of suspended.

You were on the ground, but your bike was on top of one leg and your other like you were still in bike riding position, but laying down. And so yeah, you were on the ground, and would I have had a few seconds to get off of my own bike and be able to help you? I would have left you exactly as you were, and then removed the bike so that you could stand up. But before I could do any of that, you like barrel rolled on your bike, and now you have bruises all over your legs.

I have a very skinned knee that was bleeding, so I had to get that bandage.

And I found a big band-aid. And there I have pretty large

scrapes on this knee, and I have a bruise on this thigh and a bruise on the shin. I am Yeah, you're kind of beat up. I'm very beat up. So it was a pants day. Yeah, it's a pants day.

To hide your bicycle bruises for when you barrel rolled on your bicycle.

Had a cool story about it though. Like, oh man, I was going so fast, and then I crashed. No.

Well, you were. You were going so fast, and then you weren't. And you were stopped and having a conversation and then decided it was lay down time. I don't know what happened.

I couldn't tell you. And then I ran away because I don't like what I told you later was I like I don't necessarily hate being the center of attention if I'm making people laugh or being a silly goof. But I don't like being the center of attention if I'm hurt and everybody's like, let me help you, let me help you. I go, no, no, no, no, no, no. Everybody look away. And I ran away. As soon as I was back on my feet, I said,

Thanks, you've got some layers and walls up, is what's going on there. You want to talk about it? No. No, I don't. Because I'm not the person that gets paid to listen and advise that, but you should talk about that with somebody.

No. Somebody should hear about that. Because there's some work to do. No, I ran away. Yeah, no, I know. That's the part of the thing where there's work to do.

I said, I'm okay, I'm okay. Everyone was like, Oh no, are you okay? You're bleeding. I know, look away. Go find something else to do. And then I took off. And when I say I ran away, I walked. With your bike. Slowly. Because I was in pain. Yeah.

Instead of letting people take care of you. No, I don't know. Yeah, you gotta pay somebody to go talk about that.

I was paying somebody to talk about. I didn't talk about that though. That one needs dug into.

Write that down on wherever you keep notes about like things you need to talk about with someone who gets paid to talk about things. That one's on the list.

What exactly? What am I writing down?

Why do I run away when people try to help? Let's start there. Why wouldn't I let people help me? Let's ask Google. No, that's not it. Hey, would you rather this or that?

Would you rather have steam come out of your ears every time you're mad or bark like a dog every time you're excited? Steam. I kind of want that too.

I don't want to be barking, but I want people to know like even if it was like something happened when I was a little annoyed, and they just go like, why's your head smoking? I'm like, it's about to get steamy.

This is your this is your warning.

My my steam is happening. You've been to Yellowstone and seen how old faithful erupts. The steam, dude. It'd be a good time for you to walk away and not watch the geyser. Yeah, right.

You kind of did that last night a little bit, although it wasn't steam, it was just your actual voice.

I was trying to to convey that I was upset so that everyone would know that I was just not feeling the mood.

Yeah, you were in a mood. Yeah. And you said, I'm in a mood. Right. And we said, okay. Good job.

You just wanted to let everybody know.

And then we all went our separate ways.

Tried to communicate so that people were in the know about my attitude. Because I was very frustrated.

Yeah, we knew. You told us. Yeah, I had steam. I know. We know. We all walked away. Yeah. Well, anyway, I'm gonna pick that. Okay.

Same. You are as well. No, no excited dog barking.

No, I just people know when I'm excited already.

I mean, like, I'm gonna look excited. They're gonna be like, wow, that guy's really excited.

And I'm gonna clap my hands and be like, let's do this. You're going to Clap your hands. Yeah, like woo. Oh. Okay. All right. Yeah, I kind of want people to know I'm mad by the steam.

Just like, whoa, what's going on? You better back away slowly. It's a good time. Good time for you to exit. Would you rather this or that?

We were doing some telescoping over the weekend.

I mean, yeah, astronomy. No, telescoping. Like looking at the stars through a telescope, but telescoping. Telescoping. No, our son has a really nice telescope and uh he brought it camping, and so we got to look at the night sky in a dark, darker sky. We got to see where with all the light pollution in our backyard. Yeah.

We got to see, he was showing us all the nebulas.

Our son loves space, so he was

going on and on and on about space. At one point, I was like, I gotta go, I gotta go to bed. And he said, I really like space, but I feel like Sit still. I can't.

You don't need to organize your pens at the same time you're telling the story. Sit still. Put your pens down. Sit still. Tell your story.

I just did. I can multitask. We saw Saturn.

Yeah, we did see Saturn. That was actually really, really cool. Yeah. I loved seeing that. Did you? Yes. Yeah. What? It was cool. It was cool.

I don't know that quit. Okay. visioning. I don't think that I had seen Saturn before.

I have not seen Saturn through a telescope before. No. Yeah, that was new. That was exciting. But he did tell me that because he loves science so much, he could talk and talk and talk about it. Yeah. And he thinks that we get bored with the amount of things.

Well, I think what he needs is a space community. He does. And I know it exists. Oh, wait, for sure. I just need to figure out who the group is and where they meet and give him the info because it isn't that anyone's bored. It's that we don't know as much about it as he does, and he wants to tell everybody everything he knows. Well, right.

And uh I told him, I go, you well, your passion is not my passion. And I love and appreciate your passion for space, and I'm interested in it, but I can't be interested for hours. Yeah. Like you. I gotta, I gotta go away and do something else. I can listen for a while and I'm excited about it, but then I gotta, and I said, it's like if I talk to you about quilting. He goes, Oh, I think quilting's interesting. I go, Yeah, but you're never gonna sit there and listen to me talk about quilting for an hour and a half. And he's like, No, you're right.

I mean, I can watch a lot of videos about fly fishing and different people out fishing, and he's gonna go, oh, more fly fishing shows. Exactly. Right, it's just different interests, right? So uh I being there for the first time he saw Saturn through his telescope was pretty cool. It was pretty cool. He gets very excited, he gets He gets so excited. he was super stoked.

So uh I want him to explore that passion, and he's gotta find that group. And I know there is other science people here in Southeast Idaho. I know.

So um we gotta get him in a planetarium. He's got stuff to do. Yeah, we've got a trip planned for a month from now that he's going because it's a new moon, and Saturn's gonna be uh like at its highest point closest to Earth, like all these things are cool, like it's gonna be a fun time.

It's gonna be a fun time. He got a new uh thing in the mail yesterday that holds his phone so he can do his photography. It's very cool. He's very excited. Yeah, if you know of a space group, I'm sure there is in Southeast Idaho. Hit us up on Facebook.

We need to know about it because our son wants to join. Yep.

And that is gonna wrap up the show. Awesome. You've got pen sorting to do. We're doing it. Currently at it. Yeah, no, I can hear. And All you did was take them out and put them back in.

It was a mess in there, Josh. What is that? All right. I had to figure it all out. Also, those scissors are four miles long. I know those. What are those four?

I don't know. I use cutting one piece of paper at one time. They're huge. You can cut a whole piece of paper in half long ways with what are you doing?

Well, I'm organizing the pens, you see. You're trying to see if they work. Yeah, that one's garbage. All right. Well, this is what I was trying to do, but you wouldn't let me. It's noisy.

In the middle of your job is to talk while you're telling a story. You just tell your story.

No, my hands get bored. They need something to do.

Well, pick something quiet like Play-Doh or something.

That's not a bad idea. I need like a fidget thing. Or a stress ball. Yeah.

Not a clankety pen jar. I could use a hmm.

I need a fidget something.

Well, we're gonna figure that out hopefully by tomorrow morning. Have a great rest of your day. See you back here tomorrow. Goodbye. Uh thanks for hanging out and uh yeah, see ya.
