(Liz) Hello and welcome back to Houselights your one stop shop for everything you need to hear about in the world of entertainment this week. I'm your host, Liz Nass. And I did almost forget the intro again. But we have such an exciting episode this week. I live in trying to get this together for how long? How many times have I said, I want to do this like love and sex panel so long, so many so many times at least a dozen times. And so now today we are joined with every love and sex reporter ever for Valentine's Day. So Introduce yourself you guys.
(Hannah W) Start Okay, well, I'm Hannah Woehrle. Anytime Yes. And I was the love and sex reporter for fall semester. 2022.
(PJ) PJ loving sex reporter for spring 2023 semester.
(Hannah H) And I'm Hannah HolyCross and I was the love and sex reporter for the fall 2023 semester.
(Liz) So yeah, for Valentine's Day just wanted to get everyone together and just do a silly little episode on like some rom coms. Maybe some like sexy movies and like dating horror stories, which we have a couple of so but for someone asked you guys like what like really? Did you guys like love the love and sex be like, what were some of your favorite stories, stuff like that?
(Hannah W) I loved I loved it. Um, I thought it was so fun. I thought it was much more broad than I originally thought it was going to be. And so I thought that was really fun. Let's see favorite stories that I wrote. My favorite story that I probably I always go back to the confidently single story that I wrote. Oh, yeah. Well, I talked to like three different senior girls at the time and they just kind of told some some of the gave advice on like, what it's like to be single at MSU going yeah, that was a good one hookup culture. Yeah, that one anyway even got to write your own little column about your own love and sex. And I did write my own column about how I had never had my first kiss, which I have since been kissed guy. Um, and that one was interesting. So I've got some good stuff
(PJ) Well, real quick, I want to piggyback off a Hannah. And it was definitely maybe I was naive going into this, but it was so much more broad than I thought I thought it was literally gonna be talking just about like love and sex. But But no, I talked you know, I think my one of my favorite pieces was I wrote about Roe v. Wade and people at MSU celebrating Roe v. Wade for the first time since he got overturned. And like, I mean, I interviewed women, just like three or four women, and they were just all very passionate about Roe v. Wade, and the overturning. And so they were like, We're going to celebrate it by protesting, you know, and like showing support and everything. So that was really cool. And another one that is one of my favorites, and a Holy Cross. And I did together about reusable menstrual products around campus. So yeah
(Hannah H) I remember that story is kind of like combining. So I was the environmental reporter at the time. So I was like combining the two. But I also really liked how much he could like play around with the beat there was so like, such a wide variety of stories you could do. And my favorite that I did was the one I did on sex appeal and advertising. I that story turned out so much better than I thought. And like the deep diving I did for it. It was it just turned out really cool. Oh, so good. Yeah.
(Liz) I don't know. It's kind of on me as we're all friends. We're all friends. Like you guys have always worked together. And so I just feel like there's such a cool little legacy on this fun loving sex. Yeah, cuz I got we worked on a story together about like, sex ed sociation. Yes. And that was I love that story. Yeah, that was so great. That was good. Sorry, guys. We have such good chemistry. And literally, we were I want to bring a conversation that we were having off camera to camera really quick before we started because I just felt like we had a lot to say about like what we like and don't like on dating apps. And so I want to let the viewers know Houselights is not just entertainment today, we're going full love and sex just because I love it so much not to step on the toes of going deeper, which you should also listen to. But yeah, I'm, I'm dipping my toes in if you want. So we were saying that we don't like people who link their Instagram on their dating apps. And I want to go and say a little bit of why?
(Hannah W) Well, I don't like it because it feels like you're just trying to become an employee. Sir, yeah. Or you are already an influencer, and I don't have any interest in that. No. Do you really want to date me? Or do you just want the follow? Are you gonna bring the follow? Should they just want me for my face mommy for ya. Number. I'm just an engagement rate like
(Liz) But I also was, I was gonna say like, I hate when people like, put their like height if that matters. But because that matters. Like at that point, I'd rather just stay short King. No, literally, literally. I'm like, so I don't know if we want to add anything else that we hate on dating apps.
(Hannah W) I will say to every single man, whenever the question is what I order for the table, it's always tequila shots. They're always there's like is there's a couple different answers. It's always like tequila shots. It's like on him, I think. Yeah, cuz I have a little prompts. Yes, yes. Or it's like sushi, or it's like, what's your what's your favorite thing? Or like, what are we gonna do on our first day? It's like, gotta get sushi. Like, I've seen that so many times. It's not original anymore. No, literally. I mean, so she's like, good. Sushi is great. But like, it does just feel like you mass produce that answer. No, literally. And they make all these LinkedIn or guys in a lab, they like, I just like, I just love like a little swipe. You swipe. You know, it just feels like a game, which is like wrong, because these are real people. But like, I know, people that are like really like, intentionally, like, I'm gonna find my true love today. And like opening up, like, the funny part though, is I know so many people who have like, who are in a relationship currently, and they like met on on a dating app.
(Liz) I met I met my long term boyfriend on the dating app.
(Hannah W) Yeah. Like it actually works for some people.
(Liz) Yeah. No, like, we like we dated for like, a year. So I'm gonna call that a success. I mean, we broke up. I don't know. That is
(PJ) kind of interesting. Like, separate from that. But I have known people who are in relationships. And I've seen them on Tinder. But get this. I've talked to them about I've confronted them about it, which
(All of the panel speaks) Okay, Jay stirring the pipe. He wants to be great. But they're all I mean, the people that I've talked to you, they're enrolled open relationships, which is so so interesting. What have you write a story on open relationship? You did? Right? Yeah, I think I was gonna say me, are you? Yeah. Okay. Yeah. That's
(Liz) I mean, open relationships. I like I feel like most like, probably just like easier for college. But like, I could never, I know. Yeah.
(PJ) It's so interesting to like, like, if people start dating, like just say, over winter break or something, or like, during the summer, then it's like, goes into like, Oh, are we a zip code? Couple that. So
(Hannah H) I had my, um, a lot of my friends use the term zip code. And sometimes I like get confused what it means and I'll use it in like the wrong context literally like that. That doesn't make any sense. What does that
(PJ) So Okay, so my hometown does it put his nine for 904. Okay. And this one is obviously for a two, three. So if two people were dating or whatever they would end and just say I met someone in at home, right? And then oh, we're still dating, but we're both going back to college. I can be in a relationship with someone else. Well, as long as I'm in Michigan. But then if you were to go both go back home, then you both have to still still date each other.
(Liz) Do you think that do you think that is like a form of like, open relationship or do you think it's just like, I don't know. I I feel like not saying like, Oh, that's cheating. I just feel like it's like a breakup than that.
(PJ) Yeah, that's it's a breakup. And then it's just like a random like hookup slash. It's
(Liz) like a dating of convenience. Which is like valid like, all day for convenience. So like, yeah, why would I date for hardship? Like kind of get it? I was like, no, no, yeah. I've never heard of that before. Every day, and I love Houselights because we learn something new every day. Do we want to get into our favorite rock? romcoms please. Okay, amazing. Should I I'm just gonna say like a quick Lusamine for sling just like love like the 90s like ones like or like 80s 90s like When Harry Met Sally is one of my favorites of all time. I watched it every fall. Yeah, it is such a fun Oh no movie and like um because it's Meg Ryan Wright is a journalist yeah to watch it and then Billy Crystal is just so cute and his like a little sleeper
(Hannah W and Liz) He has the best fits. Best fits. Like if if you are a man and you don't know how to dress watch When Harry Met Sally. Yeah, any fit he wears extended sweater. There's like one reason really just wearing like jeans and a white t shirt and like a jacket. Like looks so good but maybe that's just like the Billy Crystal maybe that is just because he's he's has so much charm. He's got like, yeah, he's got charm. Yeah, that's a great one. And then on Notting Hill. Well, yeah
(The entire panel speaks) I've never seen it. I haven't seen can you? Not me in this category neither of us have seen When Harry Met Sally. Okay, that's crazy. You need to watch like to get the job report if you haven't seen the Bible. But yeah, like Notting Hill with Hugh Grant and Julie Roberts and they like meet you in his store that he owns his travel. Travel. How does the bookstore travel? Yeah, no. travel books were I was on the same page. I was like alright, I love I love a good musical. And there's, there's one thing and lolium is just like so classy about it. Because there's like a musical musical. And then there's like, lala land. And I like both honestly, like lonely and just have something about Ryan Gosling playing a guy who's not ending up with the girl he wants to be with? No interruptions. This time to tap shoes in tap shoes. Oh, Emma Stone so real for that which she wouldn't be with Ryan Gosling. I will. You know, I love a good tap out scene. I love a good montage. It has jazz. It's got she doesn't love jazz. He literally saved jazz for all of LA. Yeah. John Legend. John. John Legend tries to destroy jazz. It's like, Oh, yeah. But I literally don't care. But it's Pride and Prejudice. That is like Valentine's Day One. Yeah. Number freaking one with Dastur Dawsey. That reminds me of how clueless is based off of ABA. Yeah, yeah, I also really like- No, because where are the Jane Austen modernized adaptations? Because I feel like it's because it's been a minute since we've gotten one of those. No, we just got to Shakespeare. Shakespeare Anya Taylor joy is really good. But it isn't. It's not like a motorisation it's like a period. No, but it's so good to be a golf isn't it to yes or no eyebrows? I love her. I love her. You know? I haven't seen any of these movies. He looks like a rom com. Yes.
(PJ) You know, we were talking about it off camera. Okay, off camera. Two movies that involve numbers. 10 Things I Hate About You. How to Lose a Guy in 10 days.
(The entire panel speaks) I never seen How to Lose a Guy in 10 days. Wow, that is crazy. You're missing out. You're missing a class. You would love How to Lose a Guy in 10. Yeah, you know there another female protagonist as a journalist. Really? Oh my god, which I'm starting to kind of a love and sex journalist. way she is. Yeah. That's why I love Carrie Bradshaw. She's like the, I guess she's more of a blogger. I know how many times you guys got love and sex be probably more handed. MPJ did somebody compare you to? Yeah.
(Hannah H) That's immediately what my parents said. Yeah. But I wanted to say because I saw a tick tock is Have you guys seen Sex in the City? Yes. What are your thoughts on Carrie Bradshaw? Because there's a big hate train for her. But then I saw tic tock where someone was like you guys beg for complex female characters for real you hate like
(Hannah W) I've only seen a couple of episodes. So I don't think I can like make a full statement. But she's she seems to self sabotage she does when we have that in common like
(Liz) I think Carrie Bradshaw was really great, just like character that like she, she just like does her thing. Like I don't think I don't I don't understand why people would think that she is like, problematic or they hate us because like she says she has rights. She cheats on people. But she falls in love. Yeah, she's like, she's the best intentions and the worst laid plans and God forbid a woman.
(PJ) I've seen one scene of Sex in the City, and it was it didn't even have to do with any of the characters the main characters it was I think it was cared for I Bradshaw's friend, and they went to like this penthouse for for a drink or ever for a party. And that's where the whole video where it's like why does it oh my god. Why does anyone have any? Why does anyone have fun anymore? What are the people having fun and if she falls off?
(The entire panel speaks) Yeah. Oh, I don't think I've seen that clip. Oh, I see that clip as like a reaction. Yeah, I love it. Though. Do numbers on Twitter
(Hannah W) Um, going on. Okay, so I love You've Got Mail another never seen it. Oh my gosh. Okay, if you like When Harry Met Sally, you're gonna love You've Got Mail another Meg Ryan Nora Ephron film. Good. And then I love it's more recent. And I feel like we haven't really talked about any recent ones because we're in a little bit of a dry spell for rom coms. It's true. But set it up. I didn't see that 2018 Netflix rom com set it up with Glen Powell. And so he judge and it's so good. That the the premise is basically that they're both assistants to these very workaholic bosses. And they they both are like wanting more free time. But they can't have more free time if their bosses are still working because they have to be there in the office wherever the bosses are. So they try to set their bosses up with each other so that they will want to go on dates with each other and then the the assistants get more time off. But then, of course in the process, the two interns, they fall in love I love and they just have such good chemistry and the rom com has to have a good soundtrack. That's essential. And this one has an amazing soundtrack. It's so good. If you're looking for like a good more recent rom com. It's it's one of my favorites of all time.
(Liz) I have a good recent one as well too. It's the noun Don't shake your hands right away. It's train wreck with Amy Schumer. I have seen Bill here and I actually love it like she's not really like the like. I think she's honestly funny in this in this I've never seen any other ones. She's very funny, but I think it's because her and Bill Hader have like really good chemistry. And I just love Bill Hader. He's great. So, Bron James is in Lebron James. John Cena is in it as like her first lady. It's so strange. Like it's really funny. And then Brie Larson, who's like an academy winning like she's, yeah, she like plays her sister. It's such like a mixed bag. Oh, yeah. People in the movie. But yeah, he's like a sports doctor. And also, she's a journalist. Yeah, that's amazing. I love insects, journalists, journalists. romcoms love to make the female protagonist a journalist. And I love it too. Because I feel like why am I gonna? Like I'm just like being like, put into the... Any other rolling poems from you guys?
(Hannah H) I during Christmas time I watched the first time the holiday. Oh, I love that. And I loved it. A little cottage. English countryside. Jack he surprised me I really I really wish he didn't sleep with his nanny. Because it's all I can think about.
(The entire panel speaks) Oh, he did the IRL. IRL. Yeah. When I was cheated on his wife with the nanny. Well that's such a cliche. Cliche no I'm Jude Law Oh, you're saying that that's like I literally be on the floor that's kind of why he fell off a little bit oh yeah it was it was scandalous been hasn't been doing well ever since he like cheated on his wife with like Instagram models around comes around. We don't put up with that anymore down.
(Liz) I also wanted to talk about the idea of like, movies that are based around like sex as a plot. And like if like they can actually be good and honestly, I have a crazy haunting 50 Shades of Grey is not that bad. It's just like a good fanfiction.
(The entire panel speaks) I've never seen it. I've never seen it.
(Hannah H) I have seen it. I've got So I have a friend She's a very she I don't want to say she's like a stamp but she liked the movie and we kind of watched his like a joke.
(The entire panel speaks) I would always go have a plot it had a plan what is the plot? Okay, so he's like this like mole type like millionaire like guy and she goes No No she's not a drill she has a stand in for her friend was a journalist so she goes what is with journalists? Job she goes in with no idea knowing what who he is because her friend is the journalists that had she was sick. So she had to go do the interview for which would literally never have scheduled zoom anyway. But with this presume though, it was say but you can still do phone call. You guys know how this like unwritten? Right? It was from Twilight. Wasn't it written on a Blackberry? Why? I remember seeing the whole thing that the whole novel was written on a Blackberry your I hope she upgraded to a laptop for the second one. I don't Yeah, I can't even imagine my eyes see the second and third ones go downhill so much. So there was something with the BlackBerry maybe like maybe she she just won't because if you're thinking about I always do this with like my stupid Notes app poetry where it's like it always comes out right when I'm just like tired Yeah, like super fast when inspiration. Loki I write I write almost all my leads in my notes app. That's that's where I write all my questions. Yeah, right before the best leads always just like come to me. Yeah, unfortunately, the longer I think about it, the worse the worse.
(Hannah H) Yeah. So like coming up. Yeah, like the bus. I'd be like, Oh, this will be really good for this drive. Yeah. Yeah.
(Liz) Because a little insider baseball for the fans. Yeah. Journalism.
(PJ) We have you guys heard of like the like the butterfly effects between it. I forget this. What what, what the initial thing was, but it led to 50 Shades of Grey and it was yes, Dakota Johnson like
(Hannah W) yes, it was like 911
(PJ) You have it memorized?
(Liz) Mine's more like fanfics Okay, so 911 happens. So then Gerard Way in My Chemical Romance is okay, good. Romance, goes to a parade for 911. He then creates a band My Chemical Romance and writes a song Welcome to The Black Parade. This jumpstarts their, you know, their their fandom or whatever. Then Stephenie Meyer, a humble Mormon girl. Just is like super horny for Gerard Way. So then she writes Twilight as a fanfiction for Gerard Way. Okay, so now we have Twilight. It was up then. I don't remember the author of 50 Shades of Grey am i doing well so yeah, okay, so that the Shades of Grey is written as a Edward fanfiction and no one would literally do none of the interviews. I my twilight like Stan, I don't that's not a rom com or anything but it is like a very great like romantic movie and toxic but like great. Um, and so then so that is a fanfiction. made on Edward. Okay. I don't know how we get to Ellen, but I do have Johnson. Oh, Dakota Johnson and then
(PJ) she gets big from the movie. She goes on to Ellen. Ellen. sighs invite her to her to does invite Dakota Johnson to her party.
(Hannah W and PJ) The other way around. No, she did because she goes actually I didn't know I mean, like like Dakota. Dakota is Bert. Oh, it was Dakota's birthday party. It was Dakota's birthday. Ellen said how's your birthday wasn't invited and then she goes No actually on that's not the truth you were invited. She's like ask your producer ask everyone early on air I
(Hannah H) I can't believe it's a fanfiction based off a fan fiction
(Liz) And then also this is the part because I don't usually go to Ellen Rome. I usually go after was like the like after sorry hold a gray was the first fanfiction to actually get like a book deal. So then after was written on the popular site Wattpad which is a Harry Styles fanfiction. And so thinking Shades of Grey opened the doors for after to become super popular and then that became flour and that was actually my next note was about after I read it when I was a fanfiction babe
(Hannah H) All of this started with 911
(The entire panel speaks) not saying that like I was I wasn't gonna say like 911 was like a good thing. No it did definitely like I'm like credo Yeah, it's just like it's just like crazy like the the chain of events that you would never have thought I never even know though. The love and sex episode with me had to bring up fanfiction at some point. Yeah. But do you think I am but like, after is not good. I've watched every afternoon I've only seen the first one. It's Oh no, I've seen I don't watch more because honestly, the first one is even better than the other ones. And that one's pretty bad. I watched part of the second one I got to the point where I'm allowed to swear on this podcast. Um, yeah. It's like, what is it Dylan surprise from talking to forever? I was actually having sex for I was like in my house. Dylan. I say it worked for him because I said, Zach, Xanax for us is pretty great though. Because he is he's like, honestly the best part of like, a terrible series. Yeah, but like as you go along, there's just like, sex every other scene like, like later on? Because like, I feel like after it's pretty tame, right? After like, has some PG 13 stuff going on? But like swear to God the rest of the afternoon it's like, every other scene was like a sexy that's like, that's fine. Like I'm not like a prude. But I'm also like, I feel like you do at some point. I do want some sort of plot like maybe like angry each other or happy with each other and be like sexy right afterwards. I have a question. So in these movies, where sex is like a main plotline are more times than not the couple like pretty toxic
(Hannah H) Yes, yes. That's like another thing too is like sometimes they have very toxic dynamics. It's like I don't know I don't I don't like when toxic behaviors excuse Yeah, got it like you know storyline but
(The entire panel speaks) that's the thing I would argue against those movies me okay, because I do worry that it normalizes toxic relation even like those books that are like super like romantic and like the smutty like books, always based off like a super like toxic relationship. Like all like the Colleen Hoover books. We were just talking about how Colleen Hoover's brain run. I just remember night though. Don't really tell anybody that but I did like cry over November
(Hannah H) Cause I was hesitant to say that because I don't I don't like to shit on what other people enjoy very much. Like, you know what if you enjoy if you enjoy those movies, you enjoy those books. Like no shame. Yeah, it's, you know, as long as you're reading like that. People are like, oh, like, I'm such like a book girl. And it's like Khan calling Hoover and like her writing is terrible. Like, I'm just like
(The panel speaks) I don't know why. I don't like bustin them out there's like, yeah, she's on my Blackberry or something. If that woman a Blackberry, maybe maybe the quality
(Liz) No, I feel like she has to have a ghostwriter at this point, with as many books as she's put out, like, it's crazy. No, I think I saw like a TED talk one time of like, the Hamilton saw, like, why did you write like you're running out of time, and it was just like, like, Barnes and Noble and like an entire shelf. No, Colleen Hoover. But like, we also don't think about those little tiny romantic you know, the ones that are like super tiny, but like sick. And you have like a firefighter that's like, homeless on so many of those. And they're like all No, oh, they're often the same three people like that's
(The panel speaks) how did they come up with your material? Like, they don't like to catch up. See at this channel, ABC. What should my next romance on will be about and then who they're selling it to? I feel like Colleen Oh, my friend's dad, actually. Yeah, my friend's dad's like obsessed with those books, but he refuses to buy them so he'll rent them from the library. But as embarrassing but but they'll ask his daughter to pick them up.
(Hannah H) My favorite thing when I go to Barnes and Noble is to pop one open. And almost every time it's something really out of pocket, especially the ones that like, are even worse than calling Hoover that have like, yeah, like kind of like bridgerton knock offs. Those are occurring
(Liz) I'm excited for the new season even though I literally hate the girl that plays like the writer or like whatever. I literally like sorta did like I liked her the first season. The second season like her I love her she's in Derry girls, and she's so Oh, see I've never seen is so funny. I know good.
(Hannah H) I haven't watched British in a while but I'm trying remember she was kind of shady in the second season. Yeah
(The panel speaks) so now she's like gonna have her season like with the birth of twin brother that she's like that might that might be her redemption. Yeah. I don't like her character but I Have the actress who plays her. And so I like look at her through a more like rose colored lens. And yeah, I loved the last season then for her to Charlotte. I like oh, I actually didn't see the Queen Charlotte one wasn't good. I think that's the best one. I think it's better. Yeah. I need to watch something new to watch legitimately. I know. Yeah, good romance. I think it was kind of amazing romance. Sorry. It was like heartbreaking. Because it's about the queen and the king. And I don't know if you're like familiar with he's, he's got like, some like, health issues. And so it's their store and then you kind of see his like, health deteriorate throughout their relationship. And it's so heartbreaking. But oh my gosh, like they fine. Like the last episode, I was like, bawling my eyes out because it was just so beautiful. And like, oh my gosh, I'm gonna have to watch it. Because like, I just was like, oh, it's not like the regular bridgerton like family like I'm just not gonna watch this. So writing just the writing itself was better for us. Like, I just need something like fill the romance hole in my life. Yeah. So like, pop up and you're saying I was gonna say before we ended the talk about books, Emily Henry writes actually pretty good romance. I'm gonna I'm gonna I like
(Hannah W) I love swift lovers. I love the treat I love I loved people for me meet on vacation. I will say the Emily Henry books around like three fourths of the way through, it does start to get a little bit slow because because in her books, the romance is never like the main plotline. It's always like an element of it and a really important element. But like, they always like she always has a much more like serious, right? Yeah, it's not like Colleen Hoover were the main focus is like smoked or anything. It's like, it's like it has it's like a cute storyline. But there's romance attached to it. So kind of serious. I haven't I don't I haven't read retreat. I read book lovers and people we meet on vacation. I read Okay, well, I read retreat and book lovers at the same time. And so how do you do that? I was it was like, I was working an internship that like wasn't giving me any work. It was this summer and so I just like read do and I didn't really work. And then the other one I like had on my phone and my commute to work was really crazy. And I would like use the train and so I just like would read it on my phone. But one time I was reading I think it was I think it was be treed Yeah, it was B trade. I was like on I was on the train in Korea. reading that book crying Oh my god. And I looked like just that stereotypical, like, white girl American who's like overly emotional. And I And in reality, were people staring at me, probably not. But in my head. I was like, I'm making such a scene. I'm like crying. I love it. But he's also like having it like cinematic for me a little bit because I was like, like, so far from home, reading this book. And also I think that one set in Michigan two, it seemed like it is yeah. And so that was like, okay, that's... Yes, you should. And it was like halfway through my study abroad too. And so I think the fact that it was like, the the very center moment was like something related to her family, which I miss my family. And it was set in basically like the equivalent of Traverse City, which is a very special place to me... Yes. And so So I hit all the right. If you don't cry, I'll be surprised.
(Hannah H) I'm like I don't I I'm very like I don't like people seeing me cry. But I've been more of a crier recently. Yeah, I don't know if it's like me getting older. Like, your shame about it. Yeah, no, I think I just have less shame about it.
(Liz) I'm a big crier. I always told myself to make myself feel better. Like it finishes the stress cycle.
(Hannah H) Honestly, I feel like I felt more emotionally healthy and alive and more of a crier. I'm liking this for me.
(PJ) I am not a crier. And it's like really weird. I don't think this is healthy at all. Like if I do crack, I feel like 20 seconds and then I'm like, Alright, I'm done. All right.
(Hannah h) I use humor to cope. Appropriate. And so like if I start crying, I'll immediately try to make it like funny, which sometimes isn't the best in certain situations. But yeah
(Hannah W) I like crying though. I mean, not something about that. But I like being able to cry. I like this.
(Hannah H) I think this is probably a big reason why I only like to cry in public or not in public and private is because when I like when like when it rains, it pours like it comes out and I can't speak so like it's hard because like if I'm trying to like talk to someone and I'm crying, or if somebody's out Severe okay.. I can be I can be perfectly fine and some could be like, are you okay? And I'd start knowing
(LIz) No, and it's so sweet if someone asks if you're when you're upset Yeah. And you're like yeah, like you're fine and then write us the word fine. Come down. Yeah, no light.
(Hannah H) Yeah, this is this is kind of a funny little Valentine's Day story. I bought myself roses from Whole Foods. Oh, okay, it started out sweet. But I didn't look at the price. They were $30
(Hannah W) Well, girl, you were at Whole Foods. That's your first Yeah. Flowers
(Hannah H) there before they weren't that expensive. I think it was probably just because there was okay, there was a bunch, like a bunch of roses, which is important later, I go home and I gotta put them in my vase. And I'm like trimming them so they fit in the vase. I'm like putting them in the vase. As I'm trimming them. The vase tipped over. It's full of water spills all over my like, I have like, all my cords like tangled up with my like, power strip, got over my power strip. The roses. Were also so messy. So my floor was covered in like, petals and leaves and then I just started breaking down. I was like, This is ridiculous. Because like also, like when I came to the door, people were like, oh, like who got you those are like me
(Liz) to take care of yourself. There may be tears, you know, as it goes along, but I I bought myself candy. So that was nice. Like a little hard on me. Yeah
(Hannah W) My parents got me flowers they like had them sent to my house. My parents love you guys. But it is so funny though. Because my house is like split in half, half of my roommates. Also, there's four of us total two, two of the roommates are in very committed relationships. The other two are not. And so it's so funny because we have like, I think four different bouquets in our living room right now. And it is hilarious because I know three out of those bouquets because like one of my I think one of my roommates their birth mother like flowers in the morning and flowers in the evening. But it's so funny because it's like oh my gosh, so many boyfriends and it's like I'll get my flowers my parents
(The panel speaks) my mom did get me a week before a little gift bag. Oh like little champagne and candy. Champagne. Like a little bottles. Oh, I'll take it. I'm gonna send this podcast my parents for Valentine's Day
(Liz) I want to before we end the podcast do a little bit of horror stories. Literally, Hannah in the group chat with him really said let's do it. And I came up with some nice. Okay. All right. So I want to note so it's like little vignettes. It's very small, small and so and I'd like to say they were all different people to know and they were all from like first dates. So these are like for once I like to have like a normal first date that like doesn't end in me either. Like, like continuously dating them or like a going absolutely horribly. But here we go. So first time I went to this, like poor Portillo's do, you know, like purchases, like super like raw, like it's just like a very casual place in a skirt was and he didn't even hug me after the day. And then he texted me later, he was like three years older than me. He went to like Notre Dame. So this is my hometown. And he was like, he told me that I reminded him of one of his students that he tutored in math, so he couldn't continue dating, which is really really weird. It's like, it's strange. Like I understand like, three years is like not that a lady's like not enough for you to be like, You remind me of one of my students and I like didn't like him so it wasn't like it was like yeah, because we literally barely talked to I mean, I'm always the one doing the conversation. I am like, I am the girl that like just the absent I like to fill the sign so I was like filling the zone so at least Yeah, whatever. One time a day was so bad that I had to take a reflective walk in my brain after that too to go and just like be with myself. But it was connected. There was nothing like specifically bad about it. It was just like, there it was just off yeah, what am I doing? Like what was it makes you like considered dating even as a concept? Yeah. I have to go like touch grass. So bad. This one is bad. You can one with nature. ran off. Oh, I there was one that was just kind of this is cringe for me. This is nothing that he did wrong. Um, one time on a date, this guy told me that he was a White Sox fan and I asked if that was basketball or baseball, because you're not like I actually didn't know what I was like, seriously, like mad about it. He was like, he was like, it's like baseball. It is. Okay. He was like, obviously, it's baseball. And I was like, oh, like, yeah, like I knew that. Sorry. Yeah. Like, I know, a lot of sports. And I told my friend that like I said that and she was like, I literally post White Sox stuff like, Oh, my story all the time. Like, you should have known that when you'd like she was like, a Chicago? No, she will. She's like, from so I'm from like, South Bend, which is like, an hour, like an hour from Chicago. So it's like, kind of like people like you could be a White Sox fan. Or you can be Yeah, exactly. Like we have a like our little league to your like, minor league team is called a South Bend cubs. Sort of like a part of like the Chicago so it's like, it's all very meshed together. And then this is a doozy. So this is the end one. Um, so first of all, was the Jamesy. Boy, obviously. Um, so I thought we had a good time. First of all, it was it would be nice freshman year so like, whatever but like it was in a dining hall quibbling whatever standing case case? Why would he take you to case it was also pouring down rain, and he met me at my class. So we were just trying to get as close as possible to like his, like, play or whatever. And also his, okay, this is not part of the story that I've written down to say, but his roommate was so like, weird, like had because he like, brought me back to the dorms. He was like, maybe like, my roommate won't be here. We can just chill out here like before, like, I take you home. And then we got there and his razors. So sorry. Because he had like, it was like the sort of recipe or so like he had not like, he'd only known him for like a couple of weeks at this point. And this kid had like one of the like, like Sports Illustrated, like bikini, like model like posters up in his room. And then he was telling us that like he had like, five dating apps. And like was asking because he found out that we like, met on like a dating app. He like asked us for like advice while we were in the whatever bundle there. But we like had a good time making them afterwards. So like, that wasn't the cringy part. So like, whatever he walks me home, we kiss at the end. And then he texted me a day later saying that he cried for four hours after because he wasn't over his ex to know that say that you like didn't have a good time. Like I'd rather you say that for yourself. Protect yourself. I know. That's why why would you text me that you cry for four hours? That is such an affair. These teams are so dramatic. Oh my god relations. SRP. So that's why I'm IR. She's part of the IR boys different. They're all the same. Oh, okay. Just in case you're wondering. I was wondering Not that I've ever dated a James. Actually the guy that said that he was a White Sox fan. He was an IR boy. So that was another day. That was enough to stop dating jamesy man trying my way, you know what reforms are just fine to have any.
(The panel speaks) Okay. To all Yeah. Okay, no, three. Okay. So, one of them was sophomore year, um, it was a sky that we like, met, I had a party or whatever. And I love a natural meet up men naturally. And the date was just like, we got coffee and walked around campus. But like, as we were walking around campus, every time we saw one of the spin scooters, he would like knock it down, and then run away. And then he was like, he's such a bad boy. Then he goes on to tell me that he's the one that's been throwing the scooters in the river. Why that is so not environmentally like Yeah. That is such a red flag. That's a red flag. So this man they're not good. And then thinking about how it would be to like walk next to somebody and then they're just like, they don't even say anything.
(Hannah W) Remember what he said it was something along the lines of like, get a ticket to the man or whatever he like. Hated the scooter so much. And he was like, you gotta like get rid of them because like a menace to the campus. I'm like, No, man, you're those workers. Literally, like those workers that come up like in the spin van like hey, You hate you so much. Um, nothing wasn't a bad day. It was just he is a he was a really nice guy. We just like didn't have chemistry and I worry it was because he's a Rubik's Cube champion. And at first I was like only as a hobby and it's like, it's like, but it was like overtaking it. I like after the day I, well, I found out what his last name was. So I was able to stalk him on Instagram. He has a Rubik's cube like Instagram dedicated to his cubing. And he's very tactical. I mean, he's growing as an audience with like, over 5000 posts. Oh, 5000 posts. That's like that might be an over exaggeration, but it was a lot of posts. And I worry that I worry that that gave me the again I'm practicing with there's nothing wrong with that. I just like there was not there's something going on up here. Right. Couldn't there's something wrong?
(Hannah H) As you don't you don't like bring your parents and be like he's the he's a Rubik's Cube is a Roomba master.
(The panel speaks) He's a Cuber. That's I learned that that's what they don't use a cube or if you do your fritters, Cuber and it's cubing. I can understand it. I want to be Mrs. Cuber.
(Hannah W) And that's the worst one. Again, he was a really, really nice guy, but like, I think it was date number four. So we've gone on before both scooter guy and Cuber I only went on one date with them. But this guy, he was really nice. I to this day, I still think he's a very nice guy. But on date number four, he we were like couldn't decide what movies to watch. And so he had us watch his like home videos. And when I say home videos, I mean his like middle school performance of Peter Pan
(The panel speaks) for how long the whole thing? Um, he would like fast forward to like just the parts that he was in. Was he Peter Pan? No, he wasn't he was like, what are the brothers? Like? That is so embarrassing. Yeah, I think he I think he realized that that wasn't the move because I asked him to like me that is so hot you take me home. Yeah, get he was a nice guy. And like there was nothing wrong and proud of you. Yeah, but I like I needed to get out of there and like I think that maybe for the next one don't don't wait a bit before. Lesson learned a valuable Yeah, yeah. And like, What a freak. I like my fingers. It's like if we had been dating for like a year. Why don't you have their DVDs? Why did you have those at your college department? We use a DVD. Wait, dB. You're right freak. Out? Yeah. Like, I have like my shirt for new school at home. In my mom's like drawer. Right, right. Packing for college or not like, oh, yeah, yeah, I'm gonna bring my that means he frequently watches it. That's yeah. Like how worn out was the desk? No, you should just walk down.
(Hannah W) I joke about how like, in the moment, I was like, so like, I couldn't even believe that that was happening at the moment. And so I like do, I'm just like, it was one of those things where I knew how good a story would be after the fact. But I still had to live the moment you know. Yeah. And so I was like, Oh my God, I need to tell somebody about this. But I needed to tell somebody right then. So I like formed a second inner monologue within my head. I always do that. It was like telling myself about it while it was happening. You and I looked at the split personality. Situations like that you have to you have to have to, like have another person there with you. And sometimes the only other time you have to not be there's a second version of yourself. And you're like, I can't believe this. And she's like, Yeah, I'm not joking. That's exactly what was going on up there. And it was so funny because I didn't tell anybody that it had happened until like a week later. Because because I needed to like keep that in. I will talk to her about it. I researched her about it and like I needed to like process that that had happened and also I really liked him. Obviously, I was a little bit embarrassed because I liked this guy. And like, I was like, oh my god, like, what does it say about me that I like went on four dates with this dude. And he like, showed me the volume that you didn't know. I think that's what everybody's like, this doesn't say anything about it. You tell him and like, it's, it's over Peter. Um, ghost. Oh, It wasn't a ghost. Because, um, because he he like texted me after he had like, dropped me back off, and was like, Hey, thanks for coming over. I had a great time. And I think I sent back like me too, even though that was a lie. Yeah. And then he didn't say anything else about that. So I'm very serious when I say I think he learned from this
(The panel speaks) did I really hope he's not listening. He was. Yeah, I'm a freak. And he's gonna like send it a tip. He's gonna be like, my mom made me pack. Fully. We found it on. Yeah, like it's not. He's He's. Yeah, okay. I just feel like that's like, it's like a it's like a fun thing. I go to them, and then I have to give them an explanation because oh, that's bold. Yeah. Yeah, I didn't. I didn't get away with it. Yeah, that's probably why I've been ghosted anyone since? Yeah because it's kind of scary. I've been ghosted, and it sucks. So I try my best not to ghost. Unless enough you like, the times where I have like, quote, unquote ghosted. At least from my point of view, there was like a mutual understanding that, like, neither of us really wanted to keep the conversation going. Yeah. So if it just so happened that like, he was the last one to send the text. There wasn't any sort of, no
(Liz) There was this guy recently that like, got so mad that I was like, not wanting to like go on a date, just because like, I was like, busy. I can't believe you were like, he's like, the one thing I don't put up with is ghosting. Very like, like, like, liberal plan, you know, I'm saying like, a very, like, Planoly we didn't really know I hadn't, like heard from like that much that week. Like, I don't know. So I was just like, oh, like, I'm, I was at work for like a while, like, I was just like, you know, doing stuff. And then I didn't text him because I assumed that he didn't text me that day. So it was like, and I was already at work. So I was gonna miss part of the day or like, it was we had not given some time. We just said like, Thursday evening. And then but like, it wasn't, we hadn't talked that much during the week. And so I was just like, at work, and then I went home. And then I was like, Hey, I'm so sorry. Like, I just got home from work. I didn't think that we were joking. He was like, I cannot believe that you would do and I'm like, we've only talked for like, maybe two weeks. He's in title. And it's like, well, now I'm like, literally gonna go shoot forever. You're literally never gonna get that day.
(The panel speaks) The one thing I don't put up with, well, here you go. You're gonna have to put up with Yeah. Never have to again because by Yeah, no, like. You can't. People don't understand work. like studying for a test. I'm not gonna blow it off, right? No, yeah. Anyways, sorry. That was should I say my three most embarrassing? So many questions before we go. Yes. I'm Matt Bennett specifically is Robbie Shapiro and Victoria's understandable. Robert ROTC. Wow. Markiplier understandable 202 Okay, rubbish Bureau fan. I see you I know I you know watching me twice as a kid you know, everyone was after back but no, for real robber as you bet. That says a lot about me though. I don't know if it's good. I was always an Andre girl. That he played every instrument, which I thought was the coolest thing. Oh, my God, when he picked up that French horn when he picks up that French horn. I left his locker was a piano. What do you play that? And then I Bo Burnham. That's all I love overnight. I love it. Okay, so I thought that there was gonna be more like Liz. But okay, cool. I feel better about it now. Any bad celebrity crushes before we end up some? I feel like back in the day I had a lot of weird ones. When I was a kid, my dad would always watch Seinfeld. Or Jerry Seinfeld earlier. because it was weird at the time it was like 12 I like China things like what other weird words? Oh, um, one of my friends brought up the library like librarian from Megamind Well, I thought that was very out of pocket. I don't even know. I know Google. I'm trying to think who else JD from Heather's oh that's so Val even though it's so toxic oh my god wait, I see it. This is literally just like a West Wing character like I've seen is like he's so cute. I see no glasses like it's slow. I do love them. This is literally my time. I love a man of process. That's crazy. But I love it though. I see you because things Bernard by the way. That ruins Yeah. All right. Well, thank you guys so much for coming on. So beautiful, so amazing. And we'll see you next week. Bye.
