COVID will always be associated with facemasks and video meetings. Now, masks are rare, but video meetings are not. Microsoft says there are 3 times as many meetings and video calls since February of 2020.
Blame remote work. Decision-making required video meetings—but also created what’s called meeting ‘bloat’. One too many Zoom calls and no one is really paying attention. It also kills any sort of productive flow when working on a project.
Now, with employees returning, meetings are under the microscope. In-office or remote, inefficient meetings are the top workplace distraction followed by too many meetings.
Is there a future with no meetings? Probably not, but companies that have tried it report higher perceived productivity. It takes tools like Slack, Trello, and pre-recorded PowerPoint presentations—but it might free up valuable time.
