0:11 Welcome back, my dear friends, for day number eight in the... Introduction to the Shahr Bitochon, to the gateway of trust in Hashem, of the Chobos Halvavos. We're on page 33. Another benefit, the fifth spiritual benefit of one who has reliance on Hashem, that Bitochon provides regarding spiritual matters is,
0:46 Hashem, having a fortune of money will not prevent him from continuing his trust in Hashem. Because someone who has the trust, he doesn't care about the money because he realizes it's all from Hashem. So he continues to trust in Hashem. He doesn't rely on the money.
1:02 It's not an assurance for anything. Just because I have money now doesn't mean I'm going to have money later. Just because I don't have money now doesn't mean I won't have money later. It doesn't make a difference.
1:22 This is rather he views it as a deposit from Hashem that he is commanded to use in specific ways and for specific purposes. He is to deal with it honestly in accordance with the Torah's ways and to use it for charity. It's a desigant. It's in a lot of time.
1:40 I'm not going to have it forever. Because he knows Hashem could take it. He's never reliant on it. He never comes to a point where he's like, ooh, my money, my money, right?
1:51 Okay.
1:56 also if the money remains in his custody on a lasting basis he will not rebel as a result of his fortune in addition when he gives charity he will not mention his kindness to the one to whom he was commanded to give the money The poor beneficiary won't know his kindness. He's going to do it quietly. He doesn't ask to be repaid and he doesn't ask to be praised with a big sign and a big notice.
2:37 He thanks God that he was a vessel to do God's will. Thank you, Hashem, for making me a vessel to do goodness. You sent me money so that I can be the distributor for you. So that I can be the...
2:52 It's not for me. What's it going to do? Give it to somebody else. Hashem, thank you for the opportunity.
2:59 Thank you for the mitzvah that you brought to my hands that I'm able to fulfill. Thus his charitable giving makes him more submissive to Hashem because he realizes everything is from Hashem. Furthermore, since he views himself as nothing more than a temporary custodian of the funds, if he loses the money,
3:25 And if he loses it, he's not going to be dejected. He's not going to mourn its loss because it was never his to begin with. It was Hashem's. So it wasn't mine to lose.
3:36 On the contrary, he realized that his allotted time as a custodian is over. And he will thank Hashem for taking back his deposit from him.
3:53 him when he gives it to him he's going to also be thankful when Hashem takes it back and he will not wish harm upon anyone else who remains wealthy nor is he envious of another person's fortune as King Solomon says a righteous person eats to satisfy his soul, meaning his soul, not his physical, not his materialistic aspects, but rather his soul, his spiritual aspects.
4:31 Thus, the fifth spiritual benefit of Bitochon is that attaining wealth does not negatively affect a person's reliance on Hashem or his righteousness. He remains content in any situation and is spared from being envious of others. Having listed five benefits of Bitochon in regarding to spiritual matters, to set out some of the benefits in regard to worldly matters, as he mentioned in the beginning of the Psicha.
5:01 My dear friends, there's not only spiritual benefits, there's also physical, worldly benefits. I had a story to say, and I forgot what that story is. So if I remember that story, I will definitely have to share it. I don't remember what it is, but hopefully Hashem will send me the story in the right time.
5:20 Oh, I remember the story now. I remember the story. Okay, there you go. I popped it right back into my brain.
5:26 I may have said this story before, so I apologize. But the great Rav of Brisk. Okay, the brisker of. The way it used to work is that if you had a lot of money, you can basically buy whatever guy you wanted to marry your daughter.
5:42 You'd go to the yeshiva and you would tell the rabbi, who's the best guy in the yeshiva? Give me the best guy. Best in midos in character. The guy the best in wit, in smart, in personality.
5:54 I want the best guy. Okay? And then he would go and say, I want you to marry my daughter. And he would put up a nice dowry. He'd buy them a house.
6:02 He would give them so that he can sit and learn Torah. You would buy a righteous scholar. And the Torah says, the halacha says, a person should pursue, should pursue a scholar for his daughter. Marry off your daughter to a righteous Torah scholar.
6:16 Okay? So this man was a very, very wealthy man. And he went to the yeshiva where the briskarav was learning. And he says to the head of the yeshiva, who's the best guy you have? He says, this guy.
6:26 He's number one. Numero uno. Okay? What's it going to cost them? Anything that they want, he's ready to do.
6:35 Of course, the Briskorov was a modest man and he didn't ask for anything. But the father-in-law, the prospective father-in-law decided, he was a very, very wealthy man, he gave him an entire city block in Warsaw. It's the equivalent of today giving an entire city block in New York City. New York City is not worth anything anymore.
6:53 But in downtown Miami. Okay? So he says, you know, it tires him. It's like, imagine like a trillion dollars.
7:03 Who knows how much it's worth, right? It's just unbelievable. All he needed to do was collect the rent every single month. And he had more than enough money.
7:13 So the Briskorov was a scholar. He was a Torah scholar. He sat and learned Torah. He didn't go collect rent.
7:20 So he hired somebody. Can you do me a favor? You go collect the rent and bring me the money and I'll pay you. Good deal, right?
7:30 Comes World War I. World War I, the Briskorov left town. He left because of the war. After the war, he comes back. And much to his dismay, this guy who he hired wasn't as honest as he thought he was.
7:49 He went to the city deeds office, changed the deeds for all of the properties, and lo and behold, the brisker of the entire city block that he got from his father-in-law is gone. It doesn't belong to him. It's not on his name. There's no proof.
8:06 There's no evidence that it was his, and there's nothing he can do anymore. And he fell into a very, very big depression. Didn't know what to do. So the brisker of...
8:17 sat and learned this book. He learned this book and he learned it again and again and again and again. They said he learned it dozens of times, learned it again and again and again. And then finally he said, I thought, I thought that someone who owned a city block in Warsaw is a wealthy man.
8:45 He says, but now, after learning the Chobos Halvavos, I know that someone who lives by the words of the Chobos Halvavos, that's the real wealthy person. The person who lives by what the Chobos Halvavos teaches us. That is the wealthiest person in the world. My dear friends, we have the opportunity with our study.
9:09 To grow in our reliance on Hashem in such a way that we have no more fears, no more worries, no more concerns, no more what if, what if, I don't know, anxiety, stress. There's no such thing. We rely on Hashem. Hashem is going to take care of it.
9:24 You feel that, ah, my back pain. Where's that coming from? It's coming because you're trying to carry things. Don't try to carry the things.
9:31 Leave it to Hashem. He's got it. It's His world. He can handle it.
9:35 he knows what you need he's going to take care of you just rely on hashem don't cause yourself the pain there's no reason for you to carry it and hashem to carry it because at the end of the day you're not carrying it hashem is going to carry it let him carry it for you he wants to carry it for you
9:58 It's the verse we brought here. He who trusts in Hashem, chesed will surround that person. My dear friends, we should all merit to grow and to continue to connect and to be gifted. with this incredible reliance on Hashem every single day of our lives. Amen.
