Sometimes the moment that changes your
direction doesn't feel inspiring.

a9f92004-d675-4cbc-a24b-61758eb66f94-0
When it happens,
sometimes it feels uncomfortable or even

a9f92004-d675-4cbc-a24b-61758eb66f94-1
embarrassing.

34216af5-0d63-496f-9d0c-b60e7226083e-0
And from Luna,
it was an interview that didn't go the

34216af5-0d63-496f-9d0c-b60e7226083e-1
way she hoped.

ef83ffa5-2f5d-4b17-bdbf-a063b82f2d6e-0
After nearly 20 years in the military,
it forced her to confront a difficult

ef83ffa5-2f5d-4b17-bdbf-a063b82f2d6e-1
question about readiness transition and
what it would actually take to build a

ef83ffa5-2f5d-4b17-bdbf-a063b82f2d6e-2
path as a civilian.

8d5d2d86-4677-45d6-b908-e79c41e34cd7-0
But instead of walking away from that
moment, she used it as momentum.

Hi,
I'm Jasmine Coleman and this is the Honor

Roll Podcast.

91f7dbf6-0071-4265-a420-6b3b5464edef-0
Today I'm joined by Muna Hassanzi,
and we're talking about resilience,

91f7dbf6-0071-4265-a420-6b3b5464edef-1
preparation,
and what can happen when you refuse to

91f7dbf6-0071-4265-a420-6b3b5464edef-2
let one difficult moment define your
future.

8730340f-5211-4ba6-b5c3-9ff6cc147bcb-0
Hi, Muna, how are you?

8642019c-28ea-4dce-9bde-083abf9a91f6-0
I'm doing great.

95de8b44-316a-45fb-bf9b-a7a29eaa5646-0
Thank you so much for that wonderful
introduction.

6c62199b-4311-4401-a562-bdb8cf570f66-0
Well, thank you so much for being here.

bdecaef4-a0a4-46cd-bfca-8a7fea6f2b5a-0
I'm very excited about your story in
particular.

ea9f4b86-b56c-4dc2-b98f-fc259a87f6ed-0
I don't want to jump the gun.

f57473cf-1ae1-4b65-9257-027fb05f3f44-0
I definitely want people to hear in your
own words, and so I'll jump right in.

d9b097a3-c02e-4867-8184-32c43efb470e-0
Just explaining to us a little bit about
your background,

d9b097a3-c02e-4867-8184-32c43efb470e-1
what you were doing before ServiceNow and
what your career looked like.

1268e14c-af2e-4328-b436-9f1b5b7d9862-0
Yes, I joined the military 2005.

eece998d-a155-4c43-8b2c-8633f6fed5a0-0
I was going to say 20 something,
but like 2005.

7aa2170c-119f-4660-925c-a99b372bc7ef-0
So I spent the last two decades in the
Army primarily doing healthcare training

7aa2170c-119f-4660-925c-a99b372bc7ef-1
and employee relations.

565d72bb-1220-42fe-b3c6-6ea9f32d4ca9-0
So some program management,
a lot of different tasks,

565d72bb-1220-42fe-b3c6-6ea9f32d4ca9-1
different jobs over the years.

586d5d8f-ee19-4651-90f6-88c04261e983-0
So very different than anything technical
or ServiceNow, definitely.

04a0792c-4474-4cdb-b54c-176a504f49c8-0
And with that background and especially
so many years in the military,

04a0792c-4474-4cdb-b54c-176a504f49c8-1
what did you think transitioning into
civilian work would look look like?

04429be2-ce52-4b57-863c-40bd87b35f37-0
Did you have intentions of staying within
the same sort of fields,

04429be2-ce52-4b57-863c-40bd87b35f37-1
especially within healthcare?

a49fa33b-3131-4720-980e-98e45fdbb7f6-0
I did get my bachelor's degree in
healthcare administration.

fafc9d7e-0ca1-4756-91cf-ea7baca25ee2-0
I think very early on.

c1eaf2b5-0523-46d8-ae71-07290f84e801-0
My intent was to transition into
healthcare on the civilian side once I

c1eaf2b5-0523-46d8-ae71-07290f84e801-1
got out, as time went on,
I wanted to really solve some more

c1eaf2b5-0523-46d8-ae71-07290f84e801-2
technical problems versus, you know,
people problems.

6861a3de-c66a-4f6b-a7c4-ff06908eea8f-0
Healthcare is such a one it it's such a
great organization,

6861a3de-c66a-4f6b-a7c4-ff06908eea8f-1
but you're dealing with humans and
sometimes in their worst conditions,

6861a3de-c66a-4f6b-a7c4-ff06908eea8f-2
right?

f8b52f70-8059-4e2d-a301-2f7b580dca25-0
So even in the administration side of it,
it is very it can it, it,

f8b52f70-8059-4e2d-a301-2f7b580dca25-1
it's a very emotionally driven business,
right?

ec473c03-d23a-45f2-b333-c811a81f59a2-0
So tech is a little bit different,
definitely, for sure.

8fe1f14a-06f1-4c55-b7b3-abc3c20ca650-0
And so you already had those intentions
of moving into maybe something a little

8fe1f14a-06f1-4c55-b7b3-abc3c20ca650-1
bit more technical,
or at least it was a curiosity for you.

78b6261a-a4ce-45d3-b19b-c1244371c68b-0
And so kind of walk me through what that
looks like kind of beating up to your

78b6261a-a4ce-45d3-b19b-c1244371c68b-1
transition from being in the military to
a civilian and just how prepared you felt

78b6261a-a4ce-45d3-b19b-c1244371c68b-2
at that point to move into,
into civilian work.

b477242e-c20a-4410-a787-76a6d332fe57-0
I don't know if you could say prepared.

786a497a-98fc-4e00-845c-e34264e0008b-0
I don't know if anyone's really fully
prepared.

fd9ee81d-a75e-4e3c-a187-b9d6fd2a9889-0
I think you assess what all the
requirements are.

83c7aa9e-025c-4745-9c4d-a7420f63eb4e-0
You know that in in the military,
we have a, a transition plan, right?

3d1248f6-ade2-468d-966b-bb1d89464f6d-0
So there's all these checkmarks of things
that you should do, you know,

3d1248f6-ade2-468d-966b-bb1d89464f6d-1
prepare your finances,
decide where you're going to live, all,

3d1248f6-ade2-468d-966b-bb1d89464f6d-2
all of all of those things.

43e3992f-c415-48f2-90ab-696b721a2d18-0
And I think for the most part I felt
prepared,

43e3992f-c415-48f2-90ab-696b721a2d18-1
but there was still a lot of unanswered
questions on how that would actually be

43e3992f-c415-48f2-90ab-696b721a2d18-2
like.

35f6398b-0aac-4fde-a962-909d86d45423-0
So what else would you say were some of
the experiences or just the skill sets

35f6398b-0aac-4fde-a962-909d86d45423-1
that you had within the military that you
think really helps you transition into

35f6398b-0aac-4fde-a962-909d86d45423-2
the civilian world and made you feel more
prepared for that transition?

37c4f6bb-b935-409b-810d-aa9a593990d6-0
I would have to say that the military
builds a lot of resilience, right?

ed978b59-686b-4119-b087-b5117d72cf53-0
It teaches you how to truly overcome
certain challenges or obstacles and 11

ed978b59-686b-4119-b087-b5117d72cf53-1
particular instance in the military,
you're normally given an assignment.

927b9b5c-3a61-40b2-ba23-3fe5019c0e21-0
It's not often that you have to apply or
interview for a position.

baee447c-89d1-448d-98fa-f77e7660aae7-0
They're out there, but it's not as common.

4c7908ac-43aa-4768-9d11-354a020cb2fd-0
So while working as an instructor,
I had an opportunity to interview for a

4c7908ac-43aa-4768-9d11-354a020cb2fd-1
training developer position and I did the
interview.

4c3817e8-b96a-48bc-91aa-236b16d575cf-0
I was really confident in knowing,
you know,

4c3817e8-b96a-48bc-91aa-236b16d575cf-1
different learning methods and
instruction material and how to train

4c3817e8-b96a-48bc-91aa-236b16d575cf-2
other instructors since I was working as
a senior instructor at the time.

b648c240-d0f0-4f21-94ff-9b34824eaa5c-0
But the interview did was not surrounding
training and development.

4e210d41-1a2e-41a9-bf7b-7c4192f636ba-0
And as soon as I went in there,
I think right afterwards,

4e210d41-1a2e-41a9-bf7b-7c4192f636ba-1
he went into straight technical medical
questions.

26aa7848-6b37-4eca-bd66-43b05baaea2d-0
It was like tracer trace a blood trace a
drop of the blood from the heart go.

b569ab9c-4601-485e-9303-e1dd44fef597-0
And while I knew the answer,
I was just I don't know.

6283cdb1-3652-4faf-917c-78953e649ba2-0
I was just taken completely aback by this
question that I was not prepared for or

6283cdb1-3652-4faf-917c-78953e649ba2-1
you know, was not expecting,
I should say right.

c196bda3-7cca-4eb9-98c4-90acceec132f-0
And so they interviewed after that when
very bad,

c196bda3-7cca-4eb9-98c4-90acceec132f-1
I did not do well and I knew that
performance was not very good.

f9ed1748-4a49-4817-81df-41ffef0b6ca1-0
So after the interview,
after I went back home and sat with that

f9ed1748-4a49-4817-81df-41ffef0b6ca1-1
very uncomfortable feeling of what did I
just do?

98e35fb7-bc91-4b25-868e-0628acb50376-0
I had enough courage to just say, OK,
you know what?

402828a8-0115-4bbe-9863-bd992d3809d2-0
I did not do my best.

47053f09-d6a6-450d-9b65-5a80735a4092-0
And I,
it really bothered me that that was the

47053f09-d6a6-450d-9b65-5a80735a4092-1
last like performance or the last moment
or what, what, what, you know,

47053f09-d6a6-450d-9b65-5a80735a4092-2
when he sees me,
he would think of me in that kind of way.

24f6f500-33ad-4647-9eb3-b7ea8103f8ec-0
So I was just like, no,
I can't let this go.

4123a24e-b3a5-4520-a4cb-2634281dd271-0
And so I went back to him and I was like,
hey, SAR major,

4123a24e-b3a5-4520-a4cb-2634281dd271-1
I know I did not do a really good job,
but I would love another opportunity to

4123a24e-b3a5-4520-a4cb-2634281dd271-2
to try again for that interview.

d1aed13b-e184-45fd-a30c-25ebe4e69849-0
Even if I don't get the position,
at least, you know,

d1aed13b-e184-45fd-a30c-25ebe4e69849-1
consider be for future roles.

5b4b42bc-10da-4779-a13c-a13aa073d226-0
And I was not expecting that he would
allow me to do the interview again,

5b4b42bc-10da-4779-a13c-a13aa073d226-1
much less get the position afterwards.

f12f3405-6697-4124-bc2f-f7e141013206-0
So I did that interview,
I got the position and it was a very,

f12f3405-6697-4124-bc2f-f7e141013206-1
very valuable lesson for me.

7af1c3ed-397b-4963-afef-e6a087c6a3e7-0
And one thing that I learned was,
you know,

7af1c3ed-397b-4963-afef-e6a087c6a3e7-1
that had to close your own doors, right?

f832de6b-bdb6-4160-97f6-c75da54f1bfe-0
So not to anticipate a no before you've
even asked, right?

90d7a66d-63cf-4d85-a33a-ccbd68b230d9-0
So when you are in a situation where it
seems like you've done poorly, you know,

90d7a66d-63cf-4d85-a33a-ccbd68b230d9-1
it it you want to sit in that and tell
yourself, oh, I failed, I failed,

90d7a66d-63cf-4d85-a33a-ccbd68b230d9-2
you know, but really you didn't fail.

d18a4fc5-d2e3-4dd1-8ee9-74f967ee091f-0
It was a learning moment.

476e787b-49ed-49cc-b986-d12166f0db76-0
That was a moment to teach me not to
anticipate, you know,

476e787b-49ed-49cc-b986-d12166f0db76-1
every single question to know that
interviews may vary,

476e787b-49ed-49cc-b986-d12166f0db76-2
to know that they might go very technical,
they might go, you know, very behavioral,

476e787b-49ed-49cc-b986-d12166f0db76-3
however they might start So just not to
anticipate just to kind of be more

476e787b-49ed-49cc-b986-d12166f0db76-4
prepared overall.

8eba29b5-f51c-431b-beeb-be507b5f2516-0
And as a result,
that's what I did when I was getting out.

7252d417-18da-4dbc-8387-83435ce0c222-0
I was like, I, I,
I have a feeling that my performance

7252d417-18da-4dbc-8387-83435ce0c222-1
shouldn't go in there where I'm just
staring straight at my interviewer

7252d417-18da-4dbc-8387-83435ce0c222-2
projecting, you know, confidence of a, a,
a, a, a soldier, right?

e4c20e74-ac25-41e3-a24f-c766180b5afa-0
So I decided to utilize Kinder Full to
help me prepare for that interview

e4c20e74-ac25-41e3-a24f-c766180b5afa-1
process.

28cccb33-4bf1-4a22-b50a-a62b30fc44c1-0
So that's one thing that I will always
take away from the military is really

28cccb33-4bf1-4a22-b50a-a62b30fc44c1-1
just knowing to not give up and to keep
pushing and to not let your last moment

28cccb33-4bf1-4a22-b50a-a62b30fc44c1-2
of failure be a defining moment and treat
it as a learning lesson and hopefully

28cccb33-4bf1-4a22-b50a-a62b30fc44c1-3
improve on it for the next time.

4f0e8311-2ae0-44b9-89be-25d547718bc6-0
Definitely.

4e3f5a06-7f04-4288-b3e4-25267284fd45-0
Yeah.

65fc8569-a33d-4937-be8a-32adaa592317-0
And something that you said that was
really that really stood out to me is a

65fc8569-a33d-4937-be8a-32adaa592317-1
line about courage.

70939285-5634-4a0d-a93e-2266550160db-0
I think a lot of people don't realize the
amount of bravery you have to have to

70939285-5634-4a0d-a93e-2266550160db-1
kind of pivot from a moment that would
look otherwise like failure and use it as

70939285-5634-4a0d-a93e-2266550160db-2
a learning lesson and sort of like the
step up that you need to actually build

70939285-5634-4a0d-a93e-2266550160db-3
and create the life that you want.

ab8712b6-7057-4a31-b48a-23dcb6d69170-0
Because I think a lot of people would
have taken that experience personally and

ab8712b6-7057-4a31-b48a-23dcb6d69170-1
pulled back from that.

4809a93e-833e-497e-984b-cd9e95947177-0
So I mean,
you did mention resources like hand or

4809a93e-833e-497e-984b-cd9e95947177-1
fold.

94dfce1e-28ee-4bdf-9de7-ef67567b860f-0
Do you have any other resources that you
think were really instrumental for you as

94dfce1e-28ee-4bdf-9de7-ef67567b860f-1
far as strengthening the skill set that
you needed once you were making this very

94dfce1e-28ee-4bdf-9de7-ef67567b860f-2
big transition into a new career and just
really a new lifestyle overall?

b33c81b5-a8fa-4dd8-a424-51ad5d751f6d-0
I think that sometimes when I hear about
tech, people always say, you know,

b33c81b5-a8fa-4dd8-a424-51ad5d751f6d-1
it's really about your network and all
who you know and all of this stuff.

3cfafad1-ff39-4bb2-9c81-87fe7d0a4b63-0
And so you kind of feel like tech is like
a secret club, right,

3cfafad1-ff39-4bb2-9c81-87fe7d0a4b63-1
that people want to kind of get into you.

22b01a3c-be9a-41d1-9221-ab41b84148ea-0
But my experience,
I think the rise up program, right?

94ed9eb4-28b6-4604-979a-ec1c97d31d43-0
So I heard about rise up from another
rise up student.

bb6edc12-c27c-4199-bf38-2e7db05d69f2-0
So one of my former Co workers did their
spouse did the program and then they did

bb6edc12-c27c-4199-bf38-2e7db05d69f2-1
the program.

107dc023-2800-407e-9c20-6d3c67fba455-0
And so just seeing that success was like,
oh, OK, you know, maybe I can do it too,

107dc023-2800-407e-9c20-6d3c67fba455-1
right.

c301157d-1f01-4202-a99e-2d10a8c598a9-0
So that was definitely one of the key
indicators of success in in my program.

3c7d05f4-c28d-4145-aa65-8343636aae2a-0
And in fact, even the,
the job that I currently work now,

3c7d05f4-c28d-4145-aa65-8343636aae2a-1
it was it came from a referral from
another rise up student that I knew or

3c7d05f4-c28d-4145-aa65-8343636aae2a-2
work with before as well.

2c9607a9-17cd-4bb8-9801-6e20eedde370-0
So I think that utilizing the resources
that are already within the community,

2c9607a9-17cd-4bb8-9801-6e20eedde370-1
you don't necessarily have to have to
transition and just, you know, oh,

2c9607a9-17cd-4bb8-9801-6e20eedde370-2
I got to know everything.

c457511c-c97f-4e28-8ffb-1d3ad832003c-0
Just be inquisitive and be the kind of
person that other people want to work

c457511c-c97f-4e28-8ffb-1d3ad832003c-1
with, right?

10190ded-10b2-4543-ad60-def192c0506e-0
I think that's really the biggest take
away that I got from that definitely.

d2c779a0-7895-4f98-93e7-bc61a53999dd-0
And I love that you're highlighting to
the,

d2c779a0-7895-4f98-93e7-bc61a53999dd-1
it's not just like the community part,
right?

9125349b-93de-4765-a4b9-2dd7041381e1-0
It's also that preparedness that you're
talking about.

fbfe5367-d62d-4783-90c1-0eac659e8d97-0
And being prepared doesn't come from just
one lane of doing something.

b4ef9c89-126b-4fa2-b1e9-960179927366-0
It comes from attacking something from
all different angles and being like, OK,

b4ef9c89-126b-4fa2-b1e9-960179927366-1
well, I have the community over here,
but I also have built this skill set.

14172cd1-c042-45f8-a61f-d4dc09dab92b-0
I kind of know what to expect or what
they're looking for in this type of

14172cd1-c042-45f8-a61f-d4dc09dab92b-1
environment when it comes to the tech
world, if it's technical or non-technical,

14172cd1-c042-45f8-a61f-d4dc09dab92b-2
I've built up the skills on both sides of
those things to kind of just be as ready

14172cd1-c042-45f8-a61f-d4dc09dab92b-3
for those questions as possible.

3f71916b-3563-483b-9a21-dbf025658e47-0
So I mean,
obviously that has made you very

3f71916b-3563-483b-9a21-dbf025658e47-1
successful in your career and just your
transition overall.

34f84188-4bcb-431a-83b5-240e9fea0af4-0
But I,
I'm really curious to know kind of what

34f84188-4bcb-431a-83b5-240e9fea0af4-1
was the moment where you started
realizing that beyond the preparedness

34f84188-4bcb-431a-83b5-240e9fea0af4-2
that you were someone who can actually do
this, you know,

34f84188-4bcb-431a-83b5-240e9fea0af4-3
when did things start feeling real for
you instead of just theoretical or

34f84188-4bcb-431a-83b5-240e9fea0af4-4
something that you were studying?

464c21b3-1401-4bb5-8b09-aae3653501a6-0
I think during the capstone of our
project, right?

ba1fa6c8-67fe-4e22-b2eb-b39b5bb1c7b1-0
So really seeing OK,
everything that I've learned,

ba1fa6c8-67fe-4e22-b2eb-b39b5bb1c7b1-1
I'm now doing.

e8aea510-02ed-4d95-aaeb-c53ed3fd3561-0
So I think that was the first big moment
where it just it went from a theoretical

e8aea510-02ed-4d95-aaeb-c53ed3fd3561-1
situation to in real life,
this is this makes sense.

79258ca5-029f-4ed4-af5f-32e783fb9448-0
And then the second one is during my
first job, right?

6cc8fc07-e10c-4b6b-b2ac-80655bb25922-0
So the job that I currently work at,
every time that something comes up,

6cc8fc07-e10c-4b6b-b2ac-80655bb25922-1
I'm like, oh man, you know,
you feel prepared or you the the dots

6cc8fc07-e10c-4b6b-b2ac-80655bb25922-2
from what you learned now start to
connect, right.

448c4d02-620a-4a1b-872b-019700d527bd-0
So one example is I was gathering
requirements.

8471b906-6d4d-4d7c-a2fe-3ad5adf6859d-0
And so learning requirements gathering in
a class can seem very abstract, like, OK,

8471b906-6d4d-4d7c-a2fe-3ad5adf6859d-1
how does that really work?

3ead5934-14d0-4f63-a71f-e57995f65e33-0
But then when you start doing it,
you're like, oh, OK,

3ead5934-14d0-4f63-a71f-e57995f65e33-1
and now I see what a vague requirement
looks like.

b15a19be-ecb9-4969-956e-37acd8d4ca54-0
OK, so, so that, that is something that I,
I've really enjoyed definitely.

6d43801f-dcd5-4023-bc4d-190792180219-0
And I mean, how,
how does your life look different can now

6d43801f-dcd5-4023-bc4d-190792180219-1
compared to that period of time where you
were just a student or you were still in

6d43801f-dcd5-4023-bc4d-190792180219-2
the military?

e64fb295-8253-44bb-8bb8-80182eb9cb5b-0
What are you currently up to for the
folks at home who don't know,

e64fb295-8253-44bb-8bb8-80182eb9cb5b-1
who are not familiar with with you and
kind of just your transition overall,

e64fb295-8253-44bb-8bb8-80182eb9cb5b-2
what are you currently up to and what are
you most proud of looking back on your

e64fb295-8253-44bb-8bb8-80182eb9cb5b-3
transition overall?

dff168d0-4888-43a1-b89f-62925c0d6d8c-0
So I'm currently,
I am a senior consultant and my

dff168d0-4888-43a1-b89f-62925c0d6d8c-1
functional title is a service now a
business analyst.

1c2afd90-dc7a-43c4-bdda-878cfa8d7db6-0
Life looks very different, right?

efb48f6b-4fd3-41fb-9b36-3bc94919be72-0
I get to work from home.

a5e51636-d6ba-4d1c-bcc0-cd2853a93b8a-0
That's number one.

f24aa8c0-e333-4596-9c58-069b8d51363f-0
I get to work from home.

4db5945a-dc31-4a44-a978-6ee0f4d46a73-0
So that is very different.

0056e3fc-f51a-4586-83e6-af727a87c82e-0
I haven't,
I haven't had an opportunity to do that

0056e3fc-f51a-4586-83e6-af727a87c82e-1
since like COVID, right?

6a9e8b46-636b-4ba3-8e02-1f9d98df9a96-0
And So what am I most proud of?

8929a942-9a9e-4be6-b24c-d103481a3f75-0
I think I am most proud of myself for not
giving up.

434eeaba-93ac-4faa-9252-58dda02cfd23-0
When I took the course about four weeks
after I had started, it was going great.

57589de1-82eb-4073-8969-37f9ecab6ed9-0
About four weeks after I started,
my mother got ill and she was watching my

57589de1-82eb-4073-8969-37f9ecab6ed9-1
my children at the time.

0eba0f98-d587-4224-9a66-b30fdb3f40d0-0
I have two kids under 2 and so it was a
challenge, right?

e538587c-caeb-48e9-920f-97c3eb1495d2-0
And I wanted so badly to be like,
I should just put this off and I should

e538587c-caeb-48e9-920f-97c3eb1495d2-1
try to do the training at a later date or
whatever.

092b1688-b196-4856-8dc7-72b08c95e0c9-0
But unfortunately the the the great thing
about the military is that you know that

092b1688-b196-4856-8dc7-72b08c95e0c9-1
do not quit right attitude.

6fc514e9-f8a9-4baa-9e96-14378e08dfd5-0
So I was just like,
I don't this is really hard,

6fc514e9-f8a9-4baa-9e96-14378e08dfd5-1
but I'm going to keep doing it.

45c660e8-a32e-404c-b03e-58426d6740ad-0
And so now to be in this position where
I'm employed and working,

45c660e8-a32e-404c-b03e-58426d6740ad-1
it's like I'm so very proud that I am
grateful that I did not give up,

45c660e8-a32e-404c-b03e-58426d6740ad-2
that I did not delay it,
that I did not push it back.

c2240081-748a-478c-a04e-a73c0b2fb9d2-0
And then I kind of work through that very
difficult time.

ff4be815-0b83-4092-bc9d-a7eee08f012d-0
Yeah, definitely.

6fc20011-6da1-4167-bf80-2de8bde2e6d3-0
You know,
and I think that's something that a lot

6fc20011-6da1-4167-bf80-2de8bde2e6d3-1
of people can relate to.

684d2485-ca97-497b-960b-e2386a31f87a-0
We all have these experience these or
these obstacles, these challenges,

684d2485-ca97-497b-960b-e2386a31f87a-1
whether it's like within our personal
life,

684d2485-ca97-497b-960b-e2386a31f87a-2
it is in our professional life that we
feel like, OK, well, sure,

684d2485-ca97-497b-960b-e2386a31f87a-3
I have this dream or this goal of
accomplishing XYZ,

684d2485-ca97-497b-960b-e2386a31f87a-4
but it's not the right time, right?

e138cd1f-650a-4288-9303-7eee9e500744-0
You're talking about your mother was ill.

cd525dba-90d9-4dad-b36f-d073529bd82c-0
You have children to take care of.

9f3640fb-07d2-45f6-b9a3-6cd077d2920c-0
Life doesn't stop during these moments
when we're trying to accomplish our goals.

9ed60626-d9c4-4f45-a48e-076640c9b24c-0
So what would you say to someone who
either feels discouraged because of a set

9ed60626-d9c4-4f45-a48e-076640c9b24c-1
back similar to what you experienced or
even if it's just like they don't feel

9ed60626-d9c4-4f45-a48e-076640c9b24c-2
like they can take that next leap because
life keeps getting in the way?

bbbb9308-1253-4e63-90f1-b00aa2c98c1b-0
I would say that failure is not
necessarily doing something wrong or

bbbb9308-1253-4e63-90f1-b00aa2c98c1b-1
having to stop.

c03089c6-9077-4bac-8b6f-dbd9f7d82682-0
Failure is after it comes after you've
given up, right?

01c67add-4d4b-423e-af5e-d7d824065494-0
So if you encounter a challenge, right,
I think that no one can say for, you know,

01c67add-4d4b-423e-af5e-d7d824065494-1
everybody's situation,
Some situations do call that it has to be

01c67add-4d4b-423e-af5e-d7d824065494-2
paused.

34dcb72d-3393-4fe1-bed1-766a955e0713-0
Some some situations do call that it has
to be delayed.

5b3ba1b8-b7ea-4459-9616-5aea865e45ef-0
But delayed does not mean denied.

d497a89b-a007-43fa-87ef-8de6c8575eb3-0
And taking a pause does not have to be
never accomplishing something.

f4a5d004-ee34-4045-bdde-836c5e34b97d-0
So just to continue to make it your goal
and to not give up on that desire.

ddb830b8-5e01-4050-8f85-83bc48afc36c-0
Every, every time that I think about it,
I think about, there's this story.

ff1dd767-c120-4438-942c-e6ccb4d05842-0
I'm probably paraphrasing,
but I was a gentleman who bought a land

ff1dd767-c120-4438-942c-e6ccb4d05842-1
during the gold rush, right?

b36589f0-0553-4012-ba35-06a4039da49c-0
And he was digging for gold,
digging for gold,

b36589f0-0553-4012-ba35-06a4039da49c-1
kept digging for gold and just did not
strike it.

16decfc3-e81b-4f20-8f98-17c7eb411410-0
So after years of doing that,
he sold his land.

ea6d1653-36db-4738-8b6b-6461c42fdc7c-0
And guess what?

15ba71c0-40b2-4783-9f3c-2d3dfe54564a-0
The person who bought the land dug a
little deeper and they strike the gold.

12cfdb2b-943f-4fc9-87c0-20ada192fd92-0
So I always tell myself,
don't stop before you strike your gold,

12cfdb2b-943f-4fc9-87c0-20ada192fd92-1
right?

83242ec3-3853-47fc-8c44-03b16b3dc768-0
Don't stop before you strike your gold.

c8cbfcf9-8cd3-41da-b6fb-924f58e325b6-0
So it it might sound easier said than
done,

c8cbfcf9-8cd3-41da-b6fb-924f58e325b6-1
but digging deeper is not necessarily
easy,

c8cbfcf9-8cd3-41da-b6fb-924f58e325b6-2
but it is so worth it once you strike
your gold for sure.

4a4f8b97-fb11-44d9-aa13-e29d6a8d77b4-0
And I think I mean when you seem like
someone who would have been successful in

4a4f8b97-fb11-44d9-aa13-e29d6a8d77b4-1
struck gold regardless.

fd05e54b-f995-499d-ab97-fc38b372539c-0
But I think that this is just a really
powerful example and reminder that

fd05e54b-f995-499d-ab97-fc38b372539c-1
setbacks aren't always your sign to stop.

081b933f-8f54-4781-92bd-014a62fc707d-0
You know,
I think that if you would have let

081b933f-8f54-4781-92bd-014a62fc707d-1
yourself be defeated in that moment,
then what ended up being like the end of

081b933f-8f54-4781-92bd-014a62fc707d-2
one story could have have become the
beginning of something completely

081b933f-8f54-4781-92bd-014a62fc707d-3
different.

cbcea161-d211-4d30-aabe-afc27fce81f4-0
And so sometimes we just need those
reminders that certain moments that show

cbcea161-d211-4d30-aabe-afc27fce81f4-1
us what we still need to build,
they are meant to be exactly that,

cbcea161-d211-4d30-aabe-afc27fce81f4-2
building moments and not anything that
should discourage us from reaching our

cbcea161-d211-4d30-aabe-afc27fce81f4-3
goal.

6c16ebbc-5f0b-4d77-b9a6-dd651d85a93a-0
So thank you so much for being here,
for telling your story and for being an

6c16ebbc-5f0b-4d77-b9a6-dd651d85a93a-1
inspiration to so many people and for
also serving our country.

170c0052-580b-4eac-8a40-a83265cf64fc-0
My honor is my honor.

7552480c-728a-495b-8cc0-625cd1adbb85-0
Thank you, of course,
and thank you all for listening.

f45040b8-424d-4349-839d-8c9282f6ede0-0
I'm Jasmine Coleman,
This is the Honor Roll podcast and we'll

see you next time.

5832b7fc-be35-4732-8d1d-fe6ab8bd5cb1-0
Bye.
