The Drop with Danno on GFN 광주영어방송

As broadcast April 18, 2023 with plenty of extra local bro grabs.  Tonight in part 1, we highlight a good portion of David Skimming aka Lunar Isles and his new album Right Way RoundSkimming, based in Cheongju and originally hailing from Scotland, has been a prolific presence in indie over the last few years with this solo project, releasing several albums along with a couple EPs for good measure.  Big tunes from some of our favorites to highlight this evening beyond that, with Magdalena Bay out with a new mini mix, Mazey Haze out with a debut EP, and plenty more worthy artists you should support beyond that.

Michl feat Brandon – Everytime the Night Starts Calling
Lunar Isles – Lights Out
Lunar Isles – Balloons

Facts
Lunar Isles – When It’s Gone
- Just out this past Friday is a great dreamy new album from David Skimming aka Lunar Isles.
- The prolific output from this Scot now based in Cheongju is really remarkable, with two EP’s and now two albums out just the past few years.
- The album is called Right Way Round, available everywhere, and we’ll get another big dose of the record before things are through here in part 1 tonight.
Crumb – Crushxd
- This actually dropped just under a week ago, which is the latest but just a standalone for the band.
- If you’re thirsting for more, check out Jinx from 2019 or Ice Melt from 21. Good band, interested if more albums are on the horizon.
Kasan Overall feat Theo Croker & Nick Hakim – Make My Way Back Home
- Interesting new artist here at least to me, who earlier this year announced he was signing to Warp Records.
- This tune just dropped last week heralds an upcoming LP called Animals, which is due out in May. If not familiar with the featured artists here, check Nick Hakim’s COMETA from last year.
Michl feat Brandon – Everytime the Night Starts Calling
- This artist (note sp.) has gained a serious monthly following since debuting with a self-titled EP in 2016, and now Michl has dropped a debut album.
- Form Follows Function just dropped last Thursday, available everywhere now.
Lunar Isles – Lights Out
Lunar Isles – Balloons
Lunar Isles – All For The Best

Part 2
Huck – How To Let Go
Magdalena Bay – Top Dog
King Krule – Seaforth
Rainbow Kitten Surprise – Drop Stop Roll
Nabihah Iqbal – Dreamer
Vacations – Next Exit
Hippo Campus – Moonshine

Facts
Huck – How To Let Go
- One of our favorites is back with this single as of last Monday, just a standalone for now.
- Not sure if this heralds something bigger, but we’ll have to wait & see for now.
Magdalena Bay – Top Dog
- For those like me who cannot get enough of this Miami-born LA-based duo’s last album, this weekend was a pleasant surprise.
- This single features on the band’s latest release called mini mix vol 3, which they dropped right before performing at Coachella over the weekend.
King Krule – Seaforth
- Just announced with the release of this single is the upcoming fourth studio album from Archy Marshall.
- The album is called Space Heavy, and is dedicated to the two places Marshall feels are now home, London & Liverpool. Space Heavy is out in June.
Rainbow Kitten Surprise – Drop Stop Roll
- Out with their first new music of 2023 is this veteran band.
- This tune is actually something the group wrote a while ago and has been performing live over the past year or so on tour.
- We’ll see what’s coming up later, but nothing larger announced with this, just a standalone for now.
Nabihah Iqbal – Dreamer
- For those of you not in London, which I guess would be quite a lot of you tuned in, this artist is a noted producer, DJ, and broadcaster from there.
- Iqbal is set to drop a debut album on April 28 via Ninja Tune, and DREAMER is the titular track. You can also check out two more singles already out if you dig what’s on the way.
Vacations – Next Exit
- This is a tune from the very popular Aussie band just released last week that was written while the band was on tour Stateside last year.
- The band have alluded that a new album is on the way with this, but nothing announced officially just yet. If you’d like to hear more, check their 2020 album Forever In Bloom.
Hippo Campus – Moonshine
- Up to the Twin Cities to finish with this band, one of our indie favorites here on Tuesday nights.
- This tune features on the new EP just out as of last week from the St. Paul band, which is titled Wasteland so go check it out.

Part 3
Joesef – Let’s Stay Together
Laura Quinn feat Yellow Days – With The Ice
Pleasure Nature – Perfume
Pearly Drops – It Follows
Mazey Haze – Back to the Start
Fake Dad – Fashion Girl
Paradise Blossom – Forever, with you

Facts
Joesef – Let’s Stay Together
- For those unfamiliar, this artist out of Glasgow is someone we’ve really been paying attention to, especially since we heard some of the singles last year from Permanent Damage, the artist’s debut album which dropped very early in 2023.
- This is a brilliantly soulful and easy going cover of course of the Al Green classic.
Laura Quinn feat Yellow Days – With The Ice
- For those who are new to Laura Quinn, this is a singer-songwriter based in London.
- Here we see Quinn teaming up with Yellow Days, who’s a rising artist out of Manchester. Check out Days In A Yellow Beat for more from the latter, released in 2020.
Pleasure Nature – Perfume
- This is a trio out of Pacific Grove CA that made debut back in 2018.
- Just a smattering of singles from this band since, but this latest one is a nice joint I just had to throw on tonight.
Pearly Drops – It Follows
- This is a duo out Helsinki, Finland, with this tune featuring on their new album which just dropped on Friday.
- The record is called A Little Disaster, so take a bite if you have a hunger for more of what’s coming up.
Mazey Haze – Back to the Start
- This is an artist we’ve been paying attention since debut in 2020, and honestly we’re a bit surprised that it’s only been singles up until now, this of course being the latest.
- This is the solo project of Nadine Appeldoorn, and this tune is the title track to the newly released debut EP, just out over the weekend, so congrats on that.
Fake Dad – Fashion Girl
- A tune with big time nostaligia here, throwing respect to the 80’s new wave and 90’s girl punk acts.
- Fake Dad is the duo of Andrea and Josh, this just a standalone for now.
Paradise Blossom – Forever, with you
- This is a latest from a duo out of Fresno, CA.
- Thanh Nguyen and Steven Salazar originally connected from their shared taste in music, now producing this out of their bedrooms to a budding following.

Part 4
SOLE feat Sun Si Kyung – Need you
Nogymx – Last Spring Rain
Coolhand Jax – 8th & 84th
Lutalo – Familiar Face
Xelli Island – The End of Us
Vibropath – Got Me Down
Pale Dream – Heartbreak on Film

Facts
SOLE feat Sun Si Kyung – Need you
- We started local in part 1, so we stay the same to begin the end.
- Originally from Busan, SOLE used to be part of a group called LiveHigh, but has been solo since 2017, this being the latest standalone single.
Nogymx – Last Spring Rain
- Our main man Jimmy Dunne out of Cheongju is out with this new lo-fi gem as of the weekend.
- This tune seems to be part of a larger compilation called Sakura Season 2, but will need some more info on that.
Coolhand Jax – 8th & 84th
- This is an artist doing a solo thing under this moniker, hailing from LA but that’s about it on the bio.
- This is the latest single in the catalogue thus far, after the artist made debut in 2020.
Lutalo – Familiar Face
- This is the project of Lutalo Jones and just recently featured as Northern Transmissions’ song of the week.
- This tune is part of the artist’s upcoming debut EP out in late June, which is called Once Now, Then Again.
Xelli Island – The End of Us
- Again, not a lot on the bio aside from “keeping it real & keeping it dreamy.” The artist is based in LA, though and that’s about all I can gather.
- This one certainly fits the bill on the latter, no doubt. Just released over the weekend.
Vibropath – Got Me Down
- This is an artist out of Rochester NY, and states that this song is all about being down in a bad way.
Pale Dream – Heartbreak on Film
- And finally, we end the show in Utah with this self-described lame indie band.
- This band actually put out a pretty good album from last year that we really liked called Curse, if you’d like to search for more darkness tonight, but that’ll be it for now (recap)
