What is Fragraphilia - The Podcast?

Fragraphilia is the passion project of Jeff and Jane Dashley where they explore, express, and extrapolate as much as they can from the often mysterious and always magical world of perfume and fragrance.

Focusing more on luxury and niche fragrances, Jeff and Jane discuss what they've been wearing each week, news and trending topics that has caught their attention, as well as any impending new release that has them excited to try. In the final segment, they will each pull three fragrances from their sample collection for the other to blind test and offer their unadulterated opinion through a series of questions before each perfume is revealed.

About the hosts - Jane Dashley is a painter and artist with a long history in fashion blogging as Sea of Shoes. Jeff Dashley is a freelance web developer and designer. They live in the Dallas, Texas area with their son and three dogs.

Jeff:

Welcome to Fragraphilia. This is Jeff.

Jane:

This is Jane.

Jeff:

And it's been, we've been... Had a busy couple weeks. We're running a day late even on this. But, since our last episode, busy in life, busy in perfume, because we've had a lot of exciting perfume stuff. We ordered a bunch of samples, and we can't wait to talk about a few of them.

Jeff:

How's the last two weeks been for you, my dear?

Jane:

Well, it's been a little crazy because our son was off for a full week, fall break. That's a thing now.

Jeff:

That's a full week.

Jane:

And then yes... Today, he didn't have school either, which is how our plans to record on our usual time got waylaid. Anyway, yeah, it's been really crazy, but just all the while, totally immersed in perfume. We have so much to talk about tonight. I don't even know where to begin.

Jeff:

So much that we had spoken about in our last episode that we were running out of samples for the game. I mean, we we have samples, and we have more samples than... I don't know. We have a lot of samples, but we haven't had many, and we were at at an arm's reach, and we haven't... And we kept, like, kinda duplicating some, so I made a couple sample orders and now we're just kinda rich with samples.

Jeff:

And along with Christina from Dry Down Diaries a couple weeks ago, Rosie from Oh To Rosie had sent us some samples to kind of test out and and get our thoughts on. So we'll talk about a few of them here as well because they were also some that we had talked about previous in the previous episode that we were looking forward to.

Jane:

And she's got a great collection, and she's so adorable. You have to follow Oda Rosie.

Jeff:

Yes. But in our last episode, we had talked about a few releases that we were really excited about. One being Bon Voyage by Mayzent Violet, which Rosie had sent us, and we have become a big fan of that line. We have Sketch. There's about three others that we could get at a drop of a hat that we really like.

Jeff:

I was really excited about this one because it had the the Cannalee accord in it, and we are both big Cannalee fans.

Jane:

I think we had a listener write in and give you a Cannalee reference.

Jeff:

Yes. I'm gonna shout them out in a few seconds, but they left a comment on our Spotify, you know, comment section, and I need to write them back because they wrote their very intricate recipe to making cantaloupe, and I think we owe them for all the effort that they put into this recipe to at least try them.

Jane:

Sweetie, I believe in you.

Jeff:

Think I'm gonna I'm gonna order some I kind won't go full, like, cantalate tins or whatever yet, but I will get some kind of molds, and I think we're gonna try them. And, you know, maybe we'll post about it or do a video, not, like, in real time because that would be a disaster, but, you know, end results.

Jane:

Show up on Instagram live. Yeah. Makes cantalays.

Jeff:

You will hear someone say, Jesus Christ and god damn it a lot. So not not safe for work. But, anyway, what were your thoughts on the on the perfume?

Jane:

It was beautiful. I mean, it is a gourmand perfume, and even though our last episode, I was all about the gourmands

Jeff:

Team gourmands.

Jane:

I'm already kind of over it, but this one, it reeled me back in. No. It was really good. Yeah. For some reason, you get the cinnamon dried fruits thing.

Jane:

That's something I always get into because I also feel like that's a Saers Lathon signature.

Jeff:

It's absolutely. Yeah.

Jane:

Yeah. So, yeah, they they have me there, and the tobacco too. I feel like that's very Saers too, and the rum... Yeah. It's it feels very French for that reason.

Jeff:

Yeah. And, yeah, it it it's it's not as sweet as I kind of thought it might be. I thought it was gonna be a little cakey sweet because of the canele accord, but it's more of that it gives... It's more of a body and a weight to it. There is a creaminess to it, and there's a little bit of smokiness to it, but ultimately, it does give kind of like vanilla and cinnamon and kind of a boozy.

Jane:

How do you feel about tobacco as a note?

Jeff:

It's real hit or miss for me because as a person who, as I've mentioned before, from 18 to, like, 25, I was... I managed tobacco... Some tobacco stores, like high end tobacco stores, so I was always immersed in, like, tobacco snobbery, pipe tobacco, cigars, and imported cigarettes back when you can get the good ones. And When you get into, like, tobacco as a flavor or as a scent, it always seems so synthetic, and it can kinda make me a little nauseous.

Jane:

Yeah. I I know what you mean. It can come off very synthetic.

Jeff:

But I love it when someone can pull off that kind of dried leaf... Tobacco leaf sensation of it, where it's almost like a almost like a kind of like a cigar out of the box. It's almost... It has a certain, like, dried leaf sweetness that can come off well, but when it gets too synthetic, it ends up being almost like a sweet boozy tobacco. I don't know.

Jeff:

It's hard.

Jane:

We have some neighbors who are my nemesis because they walk their dog off leash and it drives me insane.

Jeff:

Mhmm.

Jane:

And the the dude from the couple walked by smoking a corncob pipe. Yeah. Which is...... Should have heard the shit with Sorry.

Jeff:

I mean, it's like a corncob pipe that is so performative, and it's stupid. And they don't... I mean, it's like, that is the... That's so low rent as far as like... For one, you know, pipes are mostly made of briar wood.

Jeff:

You get, like, mirrors on pipes and things like that, but, like, it's it's made with that type of wood for a reason because it it holds the heat. It... The tobacco doesn't get too hot. It keeps the tobacco lit. There's so many other reasons.

Jeff:

You know, it it builds up a residue that...

Jane:

I could go

Jeff:

on and off of people. You might as well be... I mean, it's like just to pick up a dried twig and just start, you know, cramming tobacco. I I don't know. It's just like it's like cardboard.

Jeff:

But, yes. Yeah. We saw him one morning, you know. You you are like, I... When she walks by in the morning, I pray that you don't see her because I feel like at any point, you're going outside.

Jane:

I've never said

Jeff:

anything to

Jane:

her, but she can tell I've... My body language is not approving. I I would say something to her if I had

Jeff:

the opportunity.

Jane:

Yeah. I've never actually gotten that close to her.

Jeff:

Yeah. And I'm I'm

Jane:

just the

Jeff:

type of person that prefers confrontation does not happen where people know where we live.

Jane:

No. I mean, you could take them, but...

Jeff:

Well, not that because, you know, here here's my... I never worry about that. I worry about, like, slash tires or things that would inconvenience You know, you break my window, and I gotta, like, spend all day getting a glass repaired. Reverse, you

Jane:

know, let's find out where they live.

Jeff:

Bite me. Even if I lose, at least that that that... I deal with that immediately, short of, like, real bodily harm, but it's like, egging my house. I gotta clean that up. I don't wanna clean that up.

Jane:

Walking your dog off leash. Only only dickheads do that.

Jeff:

Yeah. You know, that's not in the city. It's like people are flying down. I'm scared to have Henry, you know, it's like you gotta watch it. There's people flying down the street.

Jane:

There's kids in the cars. It's like you don't love your dog if that's how you're moving through life. Anyway, while we spend enough time

Jeff:

on that. So tobacco sense. Yeah. But overall, would I own this perf would I own Bon Voyage by Ms. Violet?

Jeff:

No. But it's good, like every one of them. Mean, really, they all they have a perfume, they're like Celine, and I think I said that previously, it's like they have a perfume for all your tastes and all of them are good.

Jane:

Yeah. And I'm sure lots of lots of people are going to smell this and, like, instantly buy a bottle. Just not us.

Jeff:

And did I say that was... Rose... Yeah. I said Rosie sent that one to us. I had...

Jeff:

A part of the samples that I had ordered was Forest Sounds by Lis, which we are big Lis fans, and we... So I was excited to try this one. It was the second one this year that they released. What's the other one they released? Earlier?

Jane:

Celestial Object?

Jeff:

No. That was last year. They're, like, on a two a year release schedule.

Jane:

Gosh. If it's not Celestial Object, I can't think when it is.

Jeff:

Flower glyph. We had it in the game last week. I mean, and that was a banger. And so forest sounds, you read the notes, it's yuzu, rain accord, ozone accord, green leaves, canopy accord, I'm not sure what that is, vetiver, loam accord, sounds swampy, and ancient woods accord. But it's very, like, I picturing Pacific Northwest, green, it just and it delivers.

Jeff:

It's so good.

Jane:

I'm really into a soily perfume right now.

Jeff:

It's very soily.

Jane:

It smelled so good to me. But it also... It wasn't so literal that it was unwearable, and it felt perfectly lis. They have such a great streamlined vision. Yes.

Jane:

We need to own more of their perfumes, but they're all kind of so good that I'm not even sure where we would go next. I was really crazy about Flower Glyph.

Jeff:

I was really crazy about that, and then I smelled this one. And this reminds me of kind of somewhere in between... What's our La Curie one? Geist.

Jane:

Oh. Oh, Geist.

Jeff:

Because Geist is more dark and murky and soily. And then, Silphium? Silphium?

Jane:

Silphium from

Jeff:

Storisgugen? Yes. This kinda fits, like, right in the middle of those two.

Jane:

Really? You think so? I think it's much fresher and more open. Those are very dense fragrances to me, and this... Like, it really does feel...

Jane:

You feel the spaciousness of the forest in it for me.

Jeff:

And it feels very aquatic. It's definitely like Pacific Northwest. It feels very like that loam accord, and it just has this very ozone Accord, whatever. I mean, it paints a picture as they would say.

Jane:

And then you also had to had to get the Misfit by Arcist collaboration with Laundry Sauce.

Jeff:

Yes. As a as a laundry detergent enthusiast as I am. I had to try it as we are big Misfit fans. Not a big fan of the Pod, so, you know, I I typically don't go with Pods, but I mean, this is... We have had laundry sauce before.

Jeff:

I remember when they first came out, we tried them, and then your sister bought us, like, the sandalwood one, like, first year they came out. Yes. The big pack for Christmas. It took us, like, two years to go through it.

Jane:

It's such a good gift for you.

Jeff:

It was that was... And I and I really enjoy that. I don't know how I feel about this yet because I'm such a Misfit fan. I know you're a Misfit fan. We've been wearing Misfit since essentially it came out.

Jeff:

We've had it since 2019, '20...

Jane:

Early twenty twenty. Laundry sauce wasn't very strong. I feel like in order to smell it, I might have to use two sauces, toss packets.

Jeff:

Yeah. They have a laundry booster. I don't even know what a laundry booster is, but they look like little pellets. Do you put them in the laundry? Do you put them...

Jeff:

I don't know.

Jane:

Maybe they work better. When we go to Target now, they they... I mean, we're not going to Target anymore. We haven't been to Target in months and

Jeff:

months. Yeah.

Jane:

But they... One thing I noticed is that they had all of these laundry smell brands, laundry products.

Jeff:

They have laundry sauce.

Jane:

So I guess that's a big thing now.

Jeff:

Well, good. It's gonna take a lot. Seriously, I've tried so many now. We have tried so many over the years that Diva still stands alone. Diva is the Diva.

Jeff:

And I I don't know that there's... The only thing that keeps I me from

Jane:

want to know, do do you know if any of our listeners who aren't in Texas can get their Diva?

Jeff:

Yeah. Because there's that guy that...

Jane:

This is from Tyler, Texas.

Jeff:

Who has like a... Oh, is that? Oh, yeah. I guess I just never put that together. He has not a native Texan.

Jeff:

It's like I hear Tyler, I just think of like, what's that last name? You know, is that Tyler Jones? Is that his, you know, a first name or something? But Tyler, Texas is a place. Anyway...

Jane:

It smells like something that, like, a genius suburban Texan mom came up with.

Jeff:

She is... And genius is the key keyword there because it is. But I will say this, like, there's elements of Misfit that I get. And granted, I mean, how are you? Misfit is such an incredible perfume.

Jeff:

It's one of my favorites. It's one of my favorite patchouli's, but it has such golden decadence to it, you know? It's all this powdery notes and all these, like, vanillas and the patchouli and it's just... And there's florals. It just...

Jeff:

It feels like a gown, you know, like just a ball and gowns and glittery gold and all these kind of things. So it's like, you can't... That's gonna be hard to to get into a laundry detergent. There's elements of it there, but it really, a lot of times, also feels just kind of like a standard amber. Yes.

Jeff:

You know, just that like a standard

Jane:

amber. Is very, very strong in it. And for me, it's like even as I'm the biggest patchouli fan that there is. Maybe patchouli doesn't translate to being a laundry sauce.

Jeff:

Yeah. I'd be curious. I I would like to... And I haven't because... What's Laundress?

Jeff:

Ain't that the name of Laundress?

Jane:

Mhmm.

Jeff:

They have that rose one that's really, really good. I haven't tried that in a while, but I think that's one of those, it went into venture capitalist world and they've like, you know, and of course, they had the big problem a couple years ago where they'd take them all off the shell. Yes. Then they came back. And I know the original founder of Laundress is like, I'm distancing these people.

Jeff:

I think she had a lot of problems with how they managed the business after that, but I will say that was that's like second to me to Diva, that rose one. I can't remember. It's like rose three ninety two or something.

Jane:

The Tyler candle company, they don't just have Diva as a laundry scent. They have other ones. Would you be open to trying

Jeff:

I have tried. Remember I got the sampler. Oh, okay. I got the leather.

Jane:

Oh my god. The leather one was insane.

Jeff:

That was, like, so intense. Yeah. That was... Yeah. I...

Jeff:

You get a pretty good sized little sample. Get, like, three or four loads worth of of washes. We tried the leather one, it was like never again. Oh my god.

Jane:

And it smelled like pennies too.

Jeff:

Yeah. It was it was... Yeah. It smelled like really cheap leather and like it was...

Jane:

And the other one was like, I think okay and inoffensive.

Jeff:

But there is an influencer in New York and he's a dry cleaner. I think he owns like a dry clean company. And he's pretty big on Instagram and TikTok and he reviews, you know, just laundry care and all kinds of laundry products and stuff. And I know that he's not a big fan of Diva. And trust me, you pour Diva into the little into the little laundry detergent receptacle thing that that feeds the detergent, there's no illusion there that that is a quality laundry detergent.

Jeff:

It just smells amazing. It does just enough. Would it treat stains? Probably not. But

Jane:

It smells so strong that our next door neighbor, Karen, she's like, what? That's right. She came over. She's like, what laundry detergent are you using? It smells amazing.

Jane:

And I was talking to her the other day. She was like, I got that Diva. It's incredible.

Jeff:

I would use Diva... I mean, Jesus, I'd probably bathe in it if it wasn't so expensive.

Jane:

You are neighborhood Diva influencer.

Jeff:

I am. Yes.

Jane:

You know, the reason that, my mom started using Diva is because Todd, her handyman.

Jeff:

Todd?

Jane:

Todd, it turns

Jeff:

out Todd is like the burliest guy anybody's ever met.

Jane:

He's... Yeah. He's like a true, like, cowboy kinda guy. Lives oil rigs, and he wears like a a cowboy hat with a feather in it. He he whittled me something.

Jane:

He whittled me an angel for Henry's birth as a kid.

Jeff:

Always like, what'd you do this weekend, Todd? Well, sat out, got the fire going, and it's like a fire pit and just like cooked a huge meal. Yeah. Know, it's just like out there... Yeah.

Jeff:

Out there till like, I don't know, having a couple beers until about one in the morning. It's like, dang.

Jane:

So that guy's the reason that we have teapot in our life.

Jeff:

Well, that actually... Yeah. I always forget about that, you know, it is your mother because when we received all those... We... She...

Jeff:

Henry stayed with her and she had to wash all his clothes because at that time, he was at a... You know, he was still in diapers and had a blowout. And we've... And your mother, like, heavy hand pours with the With everything. Perfume with Diva.

Jane:

My mom knows... No such thing as moderation.

Jeff:

This is the Diva episode, by the way. Anyway, Arquiste, Misfit, Laundry Soles. I'm curious about what everybody else... I love Carlos and Arquiste. I mean, you do as well.

Jane:

Oh, it's it's one of my, like, top three perfume brands.

Jeff:

It is. We have been championing them from the beginning for years. And so I want this to be, like, the coolest thing. I hope they do other ones. I think they do, like...

Jeff:

Think it would be cool if they did, like, architects club or

Jane:

I was surprised they didn't go architects club.

Jeff:

Yeah. It seems like that might... There must be something about it that's more difficult or more costly.

Jane:

Hey. I wanna buy that. I want to buy a bottle of architect stuff. Remember how good it was when we had it in the game?

Jeff:

Yeah. Of course. I love that perfume.

Jane:

Okay. We're moving on. This this episode is slow moving because we have so much to talk about.

Jeff:

And I'm drinking vodka martinis out here, though, like it like it's 1974.

Jane:

Our son was insane putting him to bed tonight. So...

Jeff:

Yeah. Yeah. Anyway

Jane:

If this episode deteriorates, blame it on Henry.

Jeff:

See, you're waiting the extra day, but it's paying off. You know? You're you're getting good stuff. Samples from Rosie.

Jane:

Oh my gosh. We're pick

Jeff:

out two right now. One, I've been very curious about going into our gourmet... Gourmand life that has already passed us by. But I keep seeing people talking about Dorsey. Now I know Dorsey is an older brand.

Jeff:

They've been kind of revitalized and they're old French house. They've been revitalized. They have these like tubular bottles. Conservatory here carries them. I'd like to go smell the wine because they're kind of pricey and they go kind of heavy with the the percentages and such.

Jeff:

They just released one that I've seen a lot about, people talking about called Vanilla Fair and, you know, why not just dive into another vanilla perfume because people love hearing us talking about them And I gotta say, it's more of a tonka perfume to me. I kinda liked it.

Jane:

I I get that. Like, there was more of that vaguely, it's sort of powdery diaper wipy going on in a really good... But I mean, I think a lot of people would hear that, and it would turn them off from this perfume. It was really, really good. That was just something very subtle.

Jane:

Obviously, it's mostly like a very, very strong vanilla. Tobacco and patchouli, though, gives it a little little bit of grit.

Jeff:

When I ever... When I get samples, I always... Before I spray them on skin or even paper, I always kinda spritz them in the air and then just, like, walk through it a little bit and smell it. And when I first sprayed it in the air, it was giving kind of like a spicy vanilla. But when you smell it on skin, it really is just kind of more of a straightforward vanilla and it gets very tonka heavy to me and very soft.

Jeff:

Like it's very cashmere kind of soft sweater. It's very cozy.

Jane:

You know what it reminded me of? What's that Garland vanilla that everyone lost their minds over?

Jeff:

Plantifloria. Yes. Yeah.

Jane:

Yeah. It it's Yeah. Smelled a lot like that, but I think I would certainly prefer the Dorsey vanilla affair

Jeff:

over the Pantophoria.

Jane:

I wasn't so taking with that.

Jeff:

See, I felt that was a little bit spicy. I think... I don't know. I mean, it's like $600. That seems so silly.

Jeff:

I haven't smelled a gourillon perfume short beyond like, Chalamor. There's a lot of like ones that I was like, oh, I like this, but they're so expensive that I never feel like they're that good. Because there's a lot of great perfumes out there I feel like, you know, like...

Jane:

Think you're getting bit hoodwinked. I mean, I obviously, I mean, I love Chalamor. It was like the first perfume campaign I ever did with Steve Schuhz, by way.

Jeff:

Was it?

Jane:

Was a Chalamor flanker. Yeah.

Jeff:

They were like, hey, we're we're gonna do a Chalamor Acampaign. Let's go with this. Yeah. Yeah. And the the young the young...

Jane:

I mean, it was back... It was literally, like, I think before Instagram, but... Wow.

Jeff:

Yeah. Yeah. It's a good perfume. I love Chalamor, and I like... But I I would say that I do like Vanilla Plantifolia a little bit better.

Jane:

Is that with a name? I can't...

Jeff:

Yeah. Okay. It's like the, you know, the Latin genus name of vanilla. But I did like... I will say on...

Jeff:

I like it. It's good. But I own it. Would you own it?

Jane:

I think I've got my vanillas real good. I don't need anymore.

Jeff:

Yeah. I've been......

Jane:

On vanilla... You wore Vanilla Virtue this week.

Jeff:

Yes. I wore it on Yeah. My

Jane:

I was like, oh. Mhmm. It smells so good. I... I'm good.

Jane:

I've got it.

Jeff:

Yeah. I think between, like --... Vanilla. Lune Feline, Vanilla Virtue, baby cat, and what's remaining of our sad vanilla barka, sample of mama wives.

Jane:

Okay. I actually could go for a full thing of that.

Jeff:

It's like, don't know that I would want anything else. Need to own it. But for somebody else that don't... That doesn't have those or don't gravitate towards those, this is really, really nice. I was...

Jeff:

I expected to not love it, and I liked it quite a bit. Another one that she sent that we really liked was the Ambra Oreo by Profumo Roma.

Jane:

Yeah. This, I was so excited to try this, and thank you so much, Rosie, for sending this over because you and I are huge fans of Bjorn D'Ambre by ProFumin Roma. And this is, you know, it has that ProFumin Roma signature, but it is so different. And it's more of like the softer, spicier balsamic amber as opposed to that kind of like chewy, unctuous, slightly funky Fior di Ambre.

Jeff:

I wish I could remember how you describe Fioridombra.

Jane:

I said it has a saliva note.

Jeff:

Saliva. Yes.

Jane:

Doesn't... Do you agree with me?

Jeff:

It's... Well, I mean, that kinda grosses me out a little bit, but I I know what you're saying.

Jane:

It has

Jeff:

something that I know that you say that Roberto Greco's rogue is like a lover's burp. I understand what you're saying. Yeah. Do I wanna smell your I

Jane:

Okay. But Amber Oreo was gorgeous. I wore it on a walk on a cool autumn morning

Jeff:

Mhmm.

Jane:

And it was so beautiful. And it had that... It was it was such a lighter amber compared to that. It... It's a little bit akin to, like, something like Amber Sultan.

Jeff:

Yeah. A

Jane:

Sir Sultan. So I think if you're into that, you would really like this. It's super high quality. But there was something, like, kind of soft and bright about it that reminded me of geraniums too.

Jeff:

It was much more... Like, Fiori de Ambre is... Like you were saying, it's it's a lot more, like, murky and bodily and earthy and heavy, whereas this seemed kind of bright and easygoing and... I am still parsing...... Accessible.

Jane:

We've had we've had Fior di Ambra for two years now. Mhmm. And I'm still parsing my feelings on it. I think that maybe I need to go deep and live it.

Jeff:

I love it, but it's one of those perfumes that you have to pick your moments with.

Jane:

Yes.

Jeff:

You know, you just don't throw that on.

Jane:

I wore it as a bedtime scent this week. Yes. And it it smelled great.

Jeff:

Yes. But ambra aurea is very, very nice.

Jane:

I wouldn't wear a Fjordan berra in public so much. Ambra or... Yeah. I think I would certainly wear anywhere, and I think I would get tons of compliments.

Jeff:

Oh, definitely. That... Yeah. That's... I I would say, though.

Jeff:

It's a winner. It's very good. We were also sent... We were contacted by Dozego, who has had a brand change. They were known as Concreted, and I would see them around.

Jeff:

I like their little bottles because they have the little concrete looking lids. And... But they've had a branding change, and now they're called Dozego. They're a South Korean brand. And recently Tracy with Invisible Stories reviewed a couple of them.

Jeff:

They reached out to us and wanted to send us their newest one, Sesame Shower and also Umbra, and I had responded back as as I do at the time. Sometimes, you know, I prefer to have a discovery set sent to us because we don't have a lot of time to do like videos and things like that and we mainly do our perfume content here and they were kind enough. So I mentioned a couple others I was interested in and said, hey, why don't you send us the discovery set? And they ended up sending us all of them, all the four that we mentioned. And when they arrived, we immediately busted them out and gotta say, kinda loving a couple of them quite a bit.

Jane:

There are two that I have fallen very, very hard for and that they actually have pretty special connections for me.

Jeff:

Yeah. Sesame shower being their latest scent.

Jane:

Which is special to me because it's a a sesame cookie fragrance. Though I will say it's not... It doesn't feel very gourmand, but it's it's there in the background. And my mother makes sesame cookies every Christmas, and she has for years and years. I mean, like, ten years at this point.

Jane:

So that for me automatically makes makes... Associates it with a very, very special memory. I think, actually, I'm going to give her a bottle of this for Christmas this year. Oh, nice. Be...

Jane:

Like, for Christmas, wouldn't that be great to

Jeff:

give her

Jane:

a Spoiler alert. Cookie... She doesn't listen. A sesame cookie perfume for Christmas. This is...

Jane:

It's beautiful, but it's not... I'm I'm saying sesame cookie, and you're thinking of a gourmand perfume. There's violet in there, olive banum, rose, mug whey, juniper. It's so dynamic.

Jeff:

It feels very... It feels like a perfume. It really does when you wear it.

Jane:

It's it's difficult to describe. I honestly don't think that I have experienced many things like it. The sesame is there, and it's in the background. And I I love it. And I feel that the texture feels cookie to me.

Jane:

Something about it. I actually, like, I spent the night at my sister's house, and I brought this along. It was like a bedtime scent there, and it smelled so good. I wore it while we watched horror movies all night. It was amazing.

Jane:

And then there's Inkwind, which you and I both fell for.

Jeff:

I really, really liked Inkwind. It's it's ink stick, lemon lime, cyprial, walnut, eucalyptus, pine, jasmine, rose, cedarwood, patchoulian, musk, and it's it's kinda grit. It feels... When you first spray it, it feels like... Just like old tires burning and there's Petricor.

Jane:

It's a post apocalyptic building.

Jeff:

It's a post apocalyptic. It feels like Blade Runner. It really does. Yeah. It's just like where it's just raining and there's just like dust and smoke in the air.

Jane:

And it's a bit sharp like a sheep?

Jeff:

Yes. But there's still so much floral aspects to it. There's the pine, the jasmine and rose give it this kind of just like... You know, like I was saying, like a like a floral, there's a delicate... Like the rose coming up in Spanish Harlem, if I may go to the old song, where it's coming up through the cracks of the concrete.

Jeff:

It's it's very much like that. It is one of my favorite perfumes that I've probably tested out and worn in the last couple months. It's... Because it has so much range. Yes.

Jeff:

And it doesn't... It smells heavy. And when I say, like, burning tires and diesel and all that kind of... And the Petricor, it sounds kind of like a little too much, but it wears at the right temperature, so so to speak. It never gets too loud.

Jeff:

It never gets too crazy. We ordered a couple samples from Runholtz. Yes. Which we won't... We'll talk about next episode.

Jeff:

But it's like you spray a little bit of Runholtz, and it's like it fills the house, it's And it's the same... And it has kind of that same kind of like, apocalyptic, there is a lot going on here, but it's done in such a respectable kind of considerate way. It's never too loud. It... It's really...

Jeff:

Inkwind is a really cool perk.

Jane:

Inkwind by Dosigo, I really, really recommend if you're somebody who likes, like, inky, weird patchouli fragrances, please check it out. But I also just wanna say smelling this brought back another memory.

Jeff:

Yes.

Jane:

From before I even met you, there was this great perfume brand called Sixth Sense, and they collaborated with fashion designers. And I was friends with them. I used to party with them in New York. We would go do karaoke, and I would go to their apartments, and we go up to the roof. And it was it was so much fun.

Jane:

They were really sweet guys. And then they sent me a long time ago, I mean, like, fifteen years ago. Yeah. They did a collaboration with Oney Tatel, and I wore that so often, and I wore it so often that I finished the bottle.

Jeff:

Yeah.

Jane:

I think that maybe I had it for three, four years into our relationship.

Jeff:

Do

Jane:

you remember it at all?

Jeff:

Oh, absolutely.

Jane:

It was such a unique fragrance. If anyone knows this perfume, please message me. I...

Jeff:

It's... It was like number six or something like It was it was 6¢ number six or it was...

Jane:

It's with with Oneitie Tal and the notes were cardamom, cedar, plum, tonka, castoreum, civet, musk, moxalone, and cosmon. It was so unique. I've never smelled anything quite like it, and ink wind isn't totally like it, but it had a... It brought back the memory. Yeah.

Jane:

There's a passing similarity there. There's some, like, patchouli funkiness and maybe even a little bit of powderiness going on. I love it.

Jeff:

Yeah. I... I'm... I've just been in... I just we'll talk about it at another time probably is I think it's Umbra that they sent us as well that I really, really liked.

Jane:

Oh, Umbra?

Jeff:

Umbra. Umbra. Yes. You show Umbra.

Jane:

I remember that because obviously I'm a painter. Umbra anything to do with with umber. Yeah. We'll get to that one in our next episode, but this is a really fascinating line.

Jeff:

So thank you, Dosego, for sending that, and I'm sure we'll probably do a video. We do wanna do videos.

Jane:

Okay. Actually, Jeff just got us... We've haven't known. It's not natural to us to do videos separately on our own, though you're really good at it. I'm not so much.

Jane:

We got a double microphone situation so we can record videos together.

Jeff:

Yeah. And do little Instagrams.

Jane:

To hold us accountable, we are going to do that.

Jeff:

One day, we are gonna do that. We've had these microphones for about two weeks now, but it's a... And, also, speaking of Oda Rosie, she tipped us off to a couple deals in the past week. So we do actually... Aside from all the wonderful gifts we've received...

Jane:

We owe her a lot.

Jeff:

We we were privy to some deals and discounts on a couple of perfumes. One a bitch... Oh, one a bitch. Jesus. Grimony.

Jeff:

What is wrong with me? One of which is Le Baguetteux by Jouissance, which, I won't tell about the pricing, but we have the other two Jouissance perfumes, which is on plein air and La Calle secrets. We've always wanted Le Baggot, and now we finally come around to getting it, and, damn, it's one of those perfumes that you're just like, I wish it would've... We should've just bought it sooner. I'm glad we didn't because we got it for a crazy price, but...

Jane:

Yeah. This, like, smelling this, this is so us that I can't believe it wasn't in our collection immediately.

Jeff:

And especially since it's mostly a rose perfume.

Jane:

Would you say so? I absolutely agree completely. Okay.

Jeff:

Okay. Well?

Jane:

Well, to me, it's like it's a a mixed bouquet of flowers that gets dirty and strange.

Jeff:

Yes.

Jane:

And it's it's a little bodily.

Jeff:

It it gets animalic.

Jane:

I would call this one a pervert's delight.

Jeff:

A pervert's delight.

Jane:

Yes. Like, it... I mean, you're gonna smell it, you're gonna know what it smells like. It... I'll just say that.

Jeff:

I feel like it's a rosy, spicy musk perfume.

Jane:

The castoreum is hitting in this one.

Jeff:

It it is hitting, and I believe it has, like, civet in there as well.

Jane:

Let me just call out the notes as they're listed on their website. Steel chains, oh, la la, pink pepper, orange flesh, geranium, jasmine, rose, violet, amber, anabolic, musk, and fejuli. Yes. It's it's complex. It's powdery.

Jane:

It's sexy. It's bodily. It's French.

Jeff:

I feel like my track record with comparing things to Portrait of a Lady is not good. But when I smell it... Feel like it's like, it's kinda like Portrait of a Lady, just kind of a little, I don't want to use the wrong word, but kind of, you know, skanky maybe?

Jane:

Okay. Would you call Portrait of a Lady skanky? No. Why... Okay.

Jane:

What do you...

Jeff:

I'm saying this one is a little bit more like, not skanky.

Jane:

Why are you comparing it to Portrait of a Lady?

Jeff:

Because to me, it smells like a rose patchouli.

Jane:

I mean, I guess, yeah, that's in there. I can I can see it?

Jeff:

Yeah. It's rose and patchouli, but with, like Let

Jane:

me just get... Hand it over here.

Jeff:

Some just kind of, like, danky animalics that gets a little bit like, oh, okay. You dirty.

Jane:

I mean, I I... To me, this smells very vaginal.

Jeff:

Oh, okay. Well...

Jane:

You didn't think that immediately?

Jeff:

I mean, I guess, but

Jane:

Maybe it

Jeff:

You know?

Jane:

Takes one to know much.

Jeff:

God. Here's the title. But...

Jane:

No. Like, immediately, that's... I mean, even long before we bought this perfume. I don't know if I ever said it out loud. I just thought No.

Jeff:

This is the first time I'm hearing it. I'm glad we're doing it recording this. Know. We just wanna

Jane:

say the quiet part out loud. But if you go on if you go on the, you know, Fragrantica page, look at the reviews. I'm like, I can't be the only one smelling this. I mean, yeah, it's it's beautiful. It's a beautiful part of the body.

Jeff:

Oh my... I'm gonna have to put the e next to this episode.

Jane:

Hey. Okay. Okay. I see I see what you're talking about. I can see the vision.

Jeff:

Yeah. I mean, well, Rosie, I hope I'm not outing you in this aspect or anything, but she was like, I don't know if I'm willing to wear that perfume or, you know, that's, you know... Because... And it's like, really? I mean, I smell the undertones in the way that when you wear, like, Lacay's Lacay's Secrets, it's like it's an iris kind of powdery perfume that has, like, a lot of...

Jeff:

Like, this cumin undercurrent that's like, oh, okay. Yeah. There you go. And this to me feels like a rose patchouli with a little bit of that kind of thing that's underneath it that makes it different than than most other rose patchouli's. That makes it a little bit animalic and musky and and and and, like, real musky, not...

Jeff:

I always hear, like, people talking about, oh, it's a it's a white musk or it's a it's a skin musk, and it's like musk has become this kind of, like, papery, powdery No. I know. It's like, man, come on.

Jane:

Have defanged musk.

Jeff:

We have defanged musk. Musk was literally from the glands of a deer. Yeah.

Jane:

And now it's like, everything's like, oh, it's a soft modern musk. Shut up.

Jeff:

Yeah. Call it something else. But anyway, so, yes, you get those anabolic notes and those muskiness, but I get a lot of just it's like a watery rose and kind of a really mossy patchouli.

Jane:

I get the metallic notes actually right now. You get the metallic don't always get them, but I'm smelling them right now. Yeah. It's funky. I I mean, I rest my case.

Jane:

Pervert's delight.

Jeff:

Pervert's delight. Okay. And then we also... She tipped us off to an... Rosie tipped us off to another deal at Nordstrom.

Jeff:

For some reason, they were having Corinne Reitfeld perfumes. Am I saying that right?

Jane:

Yeah. I think, yeah.

Jeff:

Yeah. Okay. Sometimes I say it, Jane looks at me in a way like, oh, I just said that wrong. But they... She was like, hey, just a heads up, they have all the Heroin perfumes on sale for this amount of price except for this one and that one, which are ones we wouldn't want anyway.

Jane:

Why can't you say the price?

Jeff:

Oh, I don't know. It's like $1.45.

Jane:

Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I think maybe there was a mistake on some of the discounts. Like, they discounted them too, and then they changed them and raised them again.

Jeff:

So when we logged on, they were all back to normal price, and I was like, except for Vladimir. And I was like, oh, man. Bummer. And... But then just I woke up Sunday morning, and and I was just kind of looking at my phone as people do in modern times, and I was like, you know, I'm gonna look at Nordstrom again and just see what happened, and they were all $1.45 again.

Jeff:

So we ended up getting forgive me, and that is... There's no regrets there because that is just... What a amazing perfume that

Jane:

is. Such a good perfume, and it pairs really well. We already have Corinne by Corinne Reutfeld, which I am crazy about, And this is so different. It's a lot like a a warmer, spicier amber. It's still like a, you know, patchouli white floral first and foremost, but the labdanum and the olebenum.

Jeff:

The cashmere and

Jane:

Yeah. It... It's it's a lot warmer and creamier. And, actually, this morning, I started wearing Corinne, and then I transitioned as Corinne Faded, and I wore forgive me.

Jeff:

You wore Corinne to our teacher meeting. Yes. I I... Went all in. Our 10:30AM meeting with the dish.

Jane:

We'll talk.

Jeff:

We'll move on.

Jane:

I guess, actually, we're a since of the week. Yeah.

Jeff:

Oh. Oh, yeah. Okay. Sorry. Sorry.

Jane:

Since of the week. Yeah. Today, we had Henry's parent teacher conference, and I did wear Corinne, like Corinne Wortfeld, which I got a compliment on from

Jeff:

our... From the head of the school.

Jane:

Yeah. Shout out, Brenda.

Jeff:

Yeah. No kidding. But I'm sorry. I didn't mean to interrupt the forgive me.

Jane:

No. Yeah. And then, later in the afternoon, we went to the mall and I put on forgive me and it's gorgeous. Oh my god. It's so good.

Jane:

But my favorite thing about Forgive Me might be the bottle. It's... The perfume is beautiful, but I think it might be one of my favorite perfume bottles that we own.

Jeff:

Yes.

Jane:

Because I already love the Corinne Reutfeld bottles, but this one's purple.

Jeff:

Yes.

Jane:

And it is stunning. I love it.

Jeff:

It is. Yeah. It's it's stunning. And, you know, there's a part of me that... There's two other...

Jeff:

Like, I want Sebastian.

Jane:

Yes.

Jeff:

And Aurelian. And Aurelian was never on sale. That was... Aurelian and and Corinne were the two that never were on sale.

Jane:

You know what Genevieve has?

Jeff:

She has all of them.

Jane:

She has she really she

Jeff:

has the

Jane:

Six of them. She has the Wong Wong Kar Kar Wai and I think I want to, like, try that again.

Jeff:

Yeah. I almost put that in the game. I

Jane:

didn't know. Don't don't follow Ode la Genevieve. Ode Genevieve. She is a terrible influence. She has amazing taste from perfumes.

Jane:

Has an incredible collection.

Jeff:

But I... Yeah. They had, like, Sebastian's really good to me. I think Sebastian, Aurelian, and I would almost blind buy Orson. That's the only one we haven't tried

Jane:

is Orson. Do because I'm a huge Orson Welles fan. I actually do want to blind buy Orson. They didn't have it

Jeff:

on No. They did.

Jane:

Oh, they did?

Jeff:

But I figured, you know, we've been lucky with Corinne Perpiums as far as pricing.

Jane:

So wasn't on my phone this week, so I was resting my hands. I think if I had And I might have done it.

Jeff:

We, you know, have to get some car work done. So I was like, you know what? We're gonna... I'm gonna leave this to the gods because I feel like so avant garde will have another crazy sale in the next... I mean, we're about to go into Black Friday territory, so everybody's gonna happen crazy.

Jeff:

So I'm sure we will.

Jane:

I I feel very gotta catch them all about the Corinne White belt line.

Jeff:

Yeah.

Jane:

Stunning. But, you know, Genevieve, she says that Aurelian is, like, her... She said it was her favorite perfume of all time.

Jeff:

Yeah.

Jane:

And to me, it was very like Coral Mandel.

Jeff:

Oh, I don't get that.

Jane:

Maybe I'm

Jeff:

missing right. More of like a to me, it's like this weird orange blossom lily of the valley meets like an an amber Yeah. It gets... And it goes in between the two. It's really it's very unique compared to now that we know, like, Metier Premiere.

Jeff:

It's different from anything in that line. It's so good. Not that Metier Premiere is is not, but it's just, like, it's so restrained and balanced, and it does all these amazing things. But I really like Sebastian, and I really... I'm curious about Orson.

Jane:

I'm surprised you put Sebastian over Aurelian. I would never guess that.

Jeff:

Oh, I would get Aurelian over Sebastian. Wait. Really? Okay. Yeah.

Jane:

I thought you just said the opposite.

Jeff:

No. I said... I... I'm just saying I would get all. Sure.

Jeff:

Those are the ones that... Karwai, it's probably, like, after those.

Jane:

I like coming around to something that didn't steal my heart right away. Yeah. So... Okay. Anyway, let me finish my sense of the week.

Jeff:

Let's do sense of week. Yeah.

Jane:

So we had our ninth anniversary

Jeff:

We did.

Jane:

On Wednesday. I can't believe that we've been married for nine years.

Jeff:

Yes.

Jane:

We're going to celebrate, not this weekend, whenever we can get childcare.

Jeff:

Yes. Whenever we can get childcare, we're gonna celebrate properly. Yeah. We did celebrate with Henry.

Jane:

Yeah. We did we did to go have a family dinner to celebrate our anniversary, and I wore Baudelaire because that is the smell of the early days of our relationship, which is so beautiful. One of the first perfumes I was, like, really, really into before I was a perfume collector, juniper berry, black pepper, caraway incense, hyacinth, leather, papyrus, patchouli, and black amber. Weirdo weirdo fragrance.

Jeff:

It's Love it.

Jane:

It's a nose tickler.

Jeff:

It is.

Jane:

Kinda... It's like a sour spicy leather patchouli. I love it.

Jeff:

It's very... I mean, obviously, I talk about it all the time and love it.

Jane:

And then last night, I wore French Affair by ex Nahilo. I was going to the bingo night for mom's club for our school. Yes. And it was at an elk's lodge, which is like a fraternity. So it was like, I show up and it was all old people, a sea of old people.

Jane:

But I was wearing a black velvet early eighties Yves Saint Laurent jacket. And whenever I I think of French affair, I think of black velvet, which is why I wore it. So, yeah. I mean, I kept up the glamour, I guess, in in...

Jeff:

Far East Dallas.

Jane:

Yeah. I mean...

Jeff:

Lodge lodge culture. It was

Jane:

a lot of really old people. And also, I had the strongest gin and tonic of my life there. Yeah. It was $7. It must have been like like at least five ounces of gin.

Jane:

I had a hangover from drinking that one gin and tonic.

Jeff:

Yeah.

Jane:

So so now I feel like French a bear might be tainted for me for a while. How about you?

Jeff:

Well, you... I think you have one more. You only did two there. Oh, okay. You did you did three because you mentioned Korean.

Jeff:

But

Jane:

Okay. So also, I wanna shout out Tobacco Rose by Papillon Artisan Perfumery. You got the sample. Mhmm. I love tobacco.

Jane:

I love rose. I love Papillon Artisan Perfumery, and I was so so excited to wear this. And, you know, it didn't disappoint. This is the type of fragrance that I want from that house. And despite the name, there's no tobacco in it.

Jane:

I think it's like oak moss, ambergris, and rose to my and Bulgarian rose. And it's gorgeous. It wore so well.

Jeff:

Yeah. It was really, really nice.

Jane:

Yeah. It's the kind of thing I could I could really go for. I always like when I'm shopping for perfumes though, I tend to want to buy things that we both wanna wear. And this would definitely definitely be just a jame perfume.

Jeff:

Probably. But... Yeah.

Jane:

You wore Bengal Rouge.

Jeff:

I did wear Bengal Rouge because those were two that we hadn't tried.

Jane:

Yeah.

Jeff:

And I really, really like Bengal Rouge. It's my kind of perfume. It's kind of dusty and mothball y, but also, like, orange flower and what else is in there? The honey went wild. Honey is so strong.

Jane:

It might be the strongest honey perfume I've ever smelled.

Jeff:

And it reminded me a lot of Arbalet by Hiram Green. Or no. Yeah. It had aspects of that and it also had aspects of Slow Dive by, Haram Green. And I think with such an extensive line that Papillon has, there's probably several more that...

Jeff:

I wouldn't go for that. If I was gonna buy something from Papillon, I'm I'm gonna go Anubis Salome, which we don't have yet. Something of those... The Tobacco Rose, Spell one twenty five. There's a lot in there that that Spell

Jane:

one twenty five. Yeah. I think that's where I would go next.

Jeff:

I feel like those are such signature Papillon scents and perfumes that you smell those and it's like, oh, that's a... You know, at least to us, it's like, oh, that's a Papillon perfume. Whereas this one, Bengali Bengali Rouge smelled smelled like other things I've smelled before. It was very good. I loved it.

Jeff:

There's no

Jane:

It was very

Jeff:

on that.

Jane:

It was very feminine to I don't think

Jeff:

But I can't

Jane:

see a man in it. But, you know

Jeff:

I'd wear that.

Jane:

It's a very... That's a woman's perfume line.

Jeff:

Now this week for me or the past two weeks or whatever, I've been wearing... I've been wanting to do a video for this, and I probably still will, and I just haven't had a chance. This was a sample that Christina from Dry Down Diaries had sent us, and it was just kind of something I didn't know what it was. And mainly because, Christina, if you're listening, the ink kind of faded on it, like it bled from... Which can happen sometimes when perfume leaks from a sample bottle.

Jeff:

And I couldn't quite... I could tell it said like joyful something, and I just never really paid much attention to it when we first received the samples she sent. And then one day I was like, when is this joyfulness? I just sprayed it on me, and it was like, oh, hello. This is a little happy, fun scent that you put on during the day, and it just instantly makes your day better.

Jeff:

And luckily, sent quite, I don't know, she sent like five mls of it. So I've been able to just kind of keep it around my desk, and anytime I want just like a happy little boost or like a, a, I don't know, a little zing to my life, I just spray a little bit on that. The perfumer is Terry Carter. I'm not familiar with his work. It's a scent trunk, trunk perfume, and they did kind of a collection this year where they pick an ingredient and the perfumers kind of, like, create something, build something upon that.

Jeff:

And he was very, his was yuzu, and he was influenced by Japan and things like that. But to me, when I smell it and close my eyes, I feel like it's what I imagine grass to smell during, like, jasmine harvest, if that's a thing. I'm sure it is because they have to get it from somewhere, but but, like, if it was in the world of Pleasantville, the movie, where it's like there's a syntheticness to it, and he talks about using synthetic jasmines. There's a lot of, like, orange flower to me as well, or at least like a gnarly side of it. There's a little dustiness to it, but it is so alive.

Jeff:

It is so bright. There's, like, this citrus accord up top and all this jasmine and white florals. Reminds me a little bit of molecule o one and iris in the sense of just like how synthetic, but how amazing and beautiful and perfect it is in its simplistic approach. And it just brings a lot of joy to my life.

Jane:

You've been wearing it a lot.

Jeff:

I love it. I think it's so good....

Jane:

Wearing it the same way that you wear Norley Orange by Yeah.

Jeff:

It's just something you put on... It's like just some days, it's just nice to put on a perfume like that. It gives a pep in your step. It makes you glad to feel it. It's just...

Jeff:

It's sunshine in a bottle. I hate to use such a cliche like that, but it really is. They did such an... He did such an amazing job with this perfume. I I love it.

Jeff:

So I'm very... I've been wearing that consistently here and there throughout the past, like, month. Muskravager, I wore that the other night just around the house. He's always... Did it a couple times.

Jeff:

It just makes me happy and it makes me when I'll just, when we're like watching movies and TV and stuff like that, just put that on at the end of the day.

Jane:

Yeah, that's your

Jeff:

Snuggle with my your sweetie.

Jane:

Snuggle scent for sure.

Jeff:

And Heliotrope by Perfumer H. I've been kinda going to that well because we have these cool mornings and it just so much. It it it hits just right. So

Jane:

I feel like we're plowing through heliotrope. Now that we have it, finally.

Jeff:

Yeah. I guess I have... Know, it's the dark glass bottle, so you can't really see it off hand, but I bet we have put quite a dent in it already between the two of us. Mhmm. Okay.

Jeff:

Well, that's Sense of the Week. You have some news?

Jane:

Yes. Before we get into the game, I want to say something for our Dallas listeners. I don't know how many of you are out there. But this upcoming Tuesday, October 27, I am going to be on a panel for the launch of The RealReal's new personal style book. It's called Real Style.

Jane:

And I will be there with Kristen Naiman from The RealReal and and the amazing Carla Rockmore. I'm sure some people listening know her. She's the most magical person. She has amazing personal style. So we'll be having a talk about fashion, and you can purchase tickets.

Jane:

And with the ticket, you get a copy of the book. Which is cool. Yeah.

Jeff:

It's a really cool book.

Jane:

It gives, like, actual real concrete actionable advice to, you know, spice up your wardrobe. So I'm I'm very excited about that, and I'd love to see anyone who's listening there. That's at 6PM at Anterra Bang Books on Lovers Lane.

Jeff:

Nice.

Jane:

And also, one more piece of housekeeping. Yes. Because if you follow me on my art account, which I know some of our listeners do, I did this perfume... This painting recently of a girl trapped in a perfume bottle. And I had a lot of Fragraphilia listeners be like, oh, when are you going to do prints of this?

Jane:

November 1, I'm going to do a limited run of prints that are going to include perfume girl. And I got my test back from my printmaker, John. It looks amazing.

Jeff:

Yeah. It really does.

Jane:

Yeah. So there you go. If you've been interested in the perfume girl painting, you can get your prints November 1.

Jeff:

Alright. You wanna get to the game?

Jane:

Yes.

Jeff:

Let's do it.

Jane:

The game has begun, and I have just sprayed Jeff his first scent.

Jeff:

It smells like a classic, like, orange flower, neroli, lily of the valley, white floral, very gentlemanly, very dry cleaner sheet. There's a nice little greenness going through. It smells... I I just always love a perfume like this, so I I have no no complaints. Is it dazzling me?

Jeff:

That's my question. And the answer is not off the bat. It's pretty... It smells so familiar. Like, I've worn it.

Jeff:

There's a little bit of, like, cigarette smoke on a jacket accord to it. It's a little bit of that kind of tobacco note we were talking about earlier where it's like a dried tobacco and not like this sweet... Nice. I really like it. There's almost like an oak moss, but it's not quite that...

Jane:

Vetiver?

Jeff:

Yeah. But even then, like, the vetiver is kind of... It's there, but it's not a dominant note right now.

Jane:

No. I agree. It's a little sheepish.

Jeff:

Yeah. Yeah. It's nice. I like it. It's very...

Jeff:

Yeah, it's kinda smoky. I agree with the brand and I

Jane:

can say, like, it performs. It gets it gets louder and louder, and then it gets very creamy on the skin.

Jeff:

I like it. I really do. It... It's... There's just something faceless about it.

Jeff:

You know what I'm saying?...

Jane:

True. Yes.

Jeff:

Like, just doesn't have much personality.

Jane:

No. I agree. I agree completely.

Jeff:

It's good. You're not gonna... If someone bought this for you as a gift, you'd be like, oh, this is a really good perfume. I like it.

Jane:

It's excellent in the way, like, a valedictorian with no idea what they wanna do in life is. Yeah.

Jeff:

Wow. I like Yeah.

Jane:

It's excellent without direction.

Jeff:

Excellent without direction. That could be a title.

Jane:

It's it's a Dominion Gropion.

Jeff:

Yeah. I mean, it's really good. It's really good.

Jane:

Would you pay $380 for this?

Jeff:

Absolutely not. It just doesn't do anything that exciting. No. It's just nice.

Jane:

It really doesn't.

Jeff:

It doesn't do anything. It's not... I'm not saying it's boring. I'm not saying it's not good. I'm not saying it's kinda lax anything.

Jeff:

It's just other than personality. I feel like Dominique Rhopion probably does this in his sleep.

Jane:

Yeah. Yeah. Okay. So this is Lejon by Taffine Fragrances.

Jeff:

Okay.

Jane:

Yeah. This is their white floral, I mean, yellow, I guess, fragrance.

Jeff:

Mhmm.

Jane:

That's this Lejon. Am I saying that right? You... You're... I don't know.

Jeff:

Sure.

Jane:

Yeah. Okay. Close enough. So Taffine is the perfume line from Houbert de Givenchy's nephew

Jeff:

Yes.

Jane:

Who owns Tafine jewelry. And and I guess in the last three, four years has started Tafine perfume.

Jeff:

I put in... What was it? La Verre?

Jane:

Yes.

Jeff:

And then maybe the last game or the game before that, these are from Christina. And they have these ornate, like... Not ornate, but these really, like, bold bottles.

Jane:

The the bottles are beautiful.

Jeff:

Yeah. And they're very expensive. Actually, it's getting really kind of, like, cigarette smokey.

Jane:

Yeah. And

Jeff:

I kinda love that side of it.

Jane:

I've I've washed my hands so many times. Do you wanna see if you can smell it on the top of my hand?

Jeff:

Sure. So it's it's good. It... The quality is there. But I just...

Jeff:

For $380, going back to that gerlon conversation earlier, would I buy this over a gourlan that I really like at that price or even like a Celine? Would I buy would I buy this or would I buy nightclubbing? I'm buying nightclubbing. Yeah. Yeah.

Jeff:

There's just a lot of perfumes at that price point that I'm gonna... That are also white florals with smoky aspects and kind of vetivers and things like that that I'm gonna... I would I would spend there.

Jane:

A couple of episodes ago, in the game, I played Hirati by Parfum Persona.

Jeff:

Yes.

Jane:

And that's one I have not been able to get off my mind, and that's a $180, and I feel like it's more interesting than this.

Jeff:

Much more. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Well, I mean, that's the second...

Jeff:

Tappan? What is it? Tappan?

Jane:

Tappan? I guess.

Jeff:

I mean, I

Jane:

don't know. Yeah. I'm not I'm not wowed.

Jeff:

Like them. Like them. But it's like when you start doing the cost comparisons and things like that, it's like, okay. Your first perfume coming up. I have just sprayed Jane, her first perfume of the game.

Jane:

This is a very Palo Santo, cool, powdery, dry, rose, floral type of situation. Those are just the first things coming to mind. You're making a face. Am I, like, so off base?

Jeff:

Oh, you're not entirely off base. There's no rose.

Jane:

Is there iris that I'm smelling?

Jeff:

I will give you the notes. Gin, almond, citruses, leather and jasmine, pine, black pepper, and ink.

Jane:

Well, I couldn't have been more base.

Jeff:

I think that I doused that strip a little too much and so you get a little bit... You have to like, the air over here smells more like it because I've worn this perfume a couple times now and I I... Well, I won't tell my biases, but...

Jane:

You've been wearing it?

Jeff:

A little bit. Yeah.

Jane:

I'm sure I've smelled it on you.

Jeff:

I wore it a couple times, and I was like, you know what? I'm gonna save this

Jane:

for the can you name

Jeff:

Just around the house. Oh, okay. Yeah.

Jane:

Yeah. To me, after smelling labagdo, it's almost like it's not similar to that smell, but maybe in structure, it's a little bit similar to that, if that makes sense. Because it's a bit of a dirtied up classic floral in a way. I don't know. I feel like this could grow on me.

Jane:

It's a... It doesn't assert itself.

Jeff:

No. It's a... Yeah. It's more... It's kind of like a skin scent Yeah.

Jeff:

I feel.

Jane:

Who's the wonderful actress from The Shape of Water?

Jeff:

Oh. Sally. Sally... Jeez. Sally Mann.

Jane:

Paddington.

Jeff:

Yeah. Come on. Sally Hawkins.

Jane:

Yeah. This is probably the type of perfume she would wear.

Jeff:

Yeah. Feel like it's...

Jane:

Her small physicality with her, like, kind of quirkiness and thoughtfulness.

Jeff:

To me, it's kind of like a papery woody perfume Yeah. With a little bit of iris and...

Jane:

Yeah. Definitely Yeah. That.

Jeff:

Yeah. So this is a very casual. Would you say casual as well? Kind of... It's not really a

Jane:

It's someone's signature scent.

Jeff:

Oh. Yeah. Yeah. That they just wear daily Yeah. Daily driver.

Jane:

Smells like it could be part of you.

Jeff:

Yeah. It's cedar root black by Einrich Bibskaup.

Jane:

Oh. Oh, I love him. I know. I'm so I'm so...

Jeff:

I just... I have a I... I'm a... I own no articles of his clothing, but I've always just loved them because they're so bright and they're sweaters and jackets

Jane:

and think I've stuff. One or two in the past.

Jeff:

And I love his label.

Jane:

Yeah. I love him so much. Interesting. Yeah. I've never smelled his...

Jane:

Where did you get this?

Jeff:

I ordered off Lucky Scent.

Jane:

Oh, okay.

Jeff:

They have cool little bottles with these, like, cool caps. Yeah. Very... Know, it it fits with the brand. But I remember when we used to go to, like, ten over six.

Jeff:

And they would always have all... They'd have quite a bit of his pieces, and I just always loved those, you know, and always like, I wish Jane would buy some Vips off because it's...

Jane:

I need to. Hey, you know, I think that the duffle bag that I use, I think that might be a collaboration with him.

Jeff:

Oh, okay. Yeah. Yeah. The Lego one? Yeah.

Jeff:

Oh, wow. Okay.

Jane:

Could be wrong. Anyway, yeah, I'd say that's pretty pretty good. Yeah. To me, it's like it smells like classic with a twist in a way that I would expect something from him to be loud and playful. So, yeah, it's a nice surprise.

Jeff:

Yeah. It's a little... To me, it's just such a such a, like, a 2,000 tens woody, fresh, classic scent. It's unassuming. It's not...

Jeff:

You're right. Like, thinking in terms of those... Of of his clothing, it's just, like, it's pretty restrained.

Jane:

Yes.

Jeff:

Yeah. So I wanna try more of his perfumes, but I I really like, like, wearing it. It was like, oh, this is really... There's...

Jane:

Feels a little bit more like the totem customer, not the... Do you say his name?

Jeff:

Heinrich?

Jane:

Yeah. Vibskoye. Vibskoye?

Jeff:

Yeah. I mean, I I would... I don't know. Sure. I'm not saying it right, but that's the way I would put it.

Jeff:

But okay.

Jane:

Moving on. I've just sprayed Jeff's second scent from the game.

Jeff:

Coming in with a fastball. Oh. It's a very, like, woodsy pine leather, saffron, cinnamon. It singes a little bit. It's a bold, strong perfume, and at the same time, very beautiful.

Jeff:

Like, it's really well done. It doesn't smell... It has... It make... Like, there's the strength of it and there's a little bit of...

Jeff:

We were joking about this. When when you see Henry running towards you, your instinct is to kinda cover your vulnerable parts because he's gonna, like, jump at you and and and sometimes he does. Sometimes he just brings you a little hug or stops right before he end to tell you something he's really excited about, but there's a part of you that's like, cover your groin. And and that's the way this is presenting in the sense of it's like, you smell it and it's like, oh, it's got a lot of stuff going on here that I'm bracing myself for it to just like be very long lasting and strong and room filling. But it's...

Jeff:

And and even more synthetic, like you start getting those synthetic molecules coming in and it's like they start to burn the nose a little bit, but it stops short of that. There's some really watery aquatic aspects of it as well.

Jane:

It's very damp.

Jeff:

Yeah, it's... It has a petrichor side to it, like we were talking about with the Toseco earlier. It's really nice. I'm curious to what this... Give me the notes, please.

Jane:

So there's no notes listed.

Jeff:

Okay. So this is... I have a feeling I know what this is now.

Jane:

What is it?

Jeff:

Based on the samples I've ordered. Is this the new Nasamoto?

Jane:

This is Micro Delirio by Nassamoto.

Jeff:

It's nice.

Jane:

It's it's inspired by the forest floor

Jeff:

Mhmm.

Jane:

Mushrooms, damp soil, and the mysterious life of the forest floor.

Jeff:

I think there's, like, some kind of, like, like, there's a psychedelic Yes, like

Jane:

You're stoned looking at the dirt.

Jeff:

I would say it's probably his best perfume I've smelled since, like, launch. Been really his good first at wave of launches, and

Jane:

I've been turned off by a lot of their...

Jeff:

Yeah. When you get into, like, Phantom Moss and Sandinoso and some of the the Ordo Parisis, this seems a little bit more in line with the originals when you get into like Brutus and Duro and Absinthe and... Is it Bacanera? What is the one that's... Oh.

Jeff:

The boozy one?

Jane:

I can't remember.

Jeff:

I think there is a Bacanera, and then there's this feels a lot more... This actually tracks with Nasomatto as well. It feels more like a Nasomatto.

Jane:

It has that, like, kind of chocolatey, soy y thing.

Jeff:

It's choc... There's like a cinnamon spiciness to it. It's not as loud as I was afraid of.

Jane:

Yes.

Jeff:

Like, it's it's really... I would wear this. I I would actually... It it feels kinda like if he did teroni and made it an Asamado scent. That's what it smells like.

Jeff:

It smells it smells very similar to Tironi.

Jane:

Tironi's like lava soil.

Jeff:

Yeah. Tironi by Ordo Parisi. This is maybe after the volcano has, you know, burned through the forest, like, five years later. Yeah. This is what you get when when growth starts to happen again.

Jane:

Not enough prehistoric fragrances going on.

Jeff:

I... This is a win. I really didn't expect to like it. I know that

Jane:

I didn't either. That's why I put it in the game. I'm glad you like it.

Jeff:

Yeah. I really... I like... I I I like this. Yeah.

Jeff:

I'm gonna give this a winner. It's, so far, my leading candidate.

Jane:

Okay.

Jeff:

Alright. I have just sprayed Jane her second entry.

Jane:

This is charming the pants off of me. I love it. Yeah. It's it's very... Okay.

Jane:

Where do I begin? It's a little... There is almost like the cookie dough thing that was going on in sesame showers that's happening in the background here. It's powdery. It's slightly sweet.

Jane:

It's incensey and soft and fizzy. Oh, what is... I can't name what I'm smelling. There's something very distinct going on here.

Jeff:

Mine's being a little Necco wafer for little bit.

Jane:

It's Necco wafers, but it's like buttery mothballs too. There's something very strange happening here that I love. That's gonna drive me crazy. It smells like something I know.

Jeff:

Isn't it just nice? It's just a nice perfume.

Jane:

And I also... I don't quite know anything that smells like it. It's a unique concept.

Jeff:

We have anything like it. That's for sure.

Jane:

Yeah. There's something kind of salted going on.

Jeff:

It's a little, like, it it lives in that world of, like, Mayo Fucciani's Loblio. Yeah. It lives in that world. It's different than that, but it lives in that world. Or by Pierre Guillaume or whatever is in that kind of world too.

Jane:

But there's also something like, oh gosh, kind of narcissist like going on where it has that kind of green, grimy, animalic aspects, if that makes sense.

Jeff:

Well, the notes are red champaca

Jane:

Okay.

Jeff:

Red mandarin, a deeply sexy vanilla, red musk, and a blend of natural sandalwoods.

Jane:

Okay. This is amazing. Yeah. I love it. This feels like when I smelled it, I'm like, this is a me fragrance.

Jeff:

I would love to... And I will just say all three of my picks, all under $200. This one is a $135.

Jane:

Oh, is it really?

Jeff:

Yeah.

Jane:

This is fantastic. I love it. What is this?

Jeff:

This is Cyberite Cyberite by Cirrus Parfums.

Jane:

Oh, so that's... Okay. Spell the brand name again. Is it

Jeff:

c I r r u s.

Jane:

Okay. Yeah.

Jeff:

Currus?

Jane:

Is this... Have you been wearing this?

Jeff:

I... Yeah. I'm almost out of the sample. We ordered this sample from Stella, I think. It's a small line, started in 2024.

Jeff:

The founder is the perfumer, and I don't know that much about it, the brand, but I think they're stateside. And it's just kind of a winner. They have another perfume that we have the sample of called Domo. And that's kind of like the religious... It's very smoky and scincy woody.

Jeff:

It's probably a little too much for me in the sense of in that indie perfumery, I'm gonna make a smoky perfume and it gets a little bit too much and it's not dialed back enough. This is the counterpart. It was kind of... This is the kind of more hedonistic version. The pious Domo is the, you know, church in incense and and this is the person who's living life's indulgence and pleasures and all that kind of stuff.

Jane:

I remember you wearing this Mhmm. And loving it. Yeah. So I'm I'm glad to smell it again. This is a winner.

Jane:

Yeah. A great perfume. It smells a little bit like... Or doesn't smell like it. It's in the same family as Sketch in in terms of its, like, wearability and softness.

Jane:

Yeah. And there's kind of like a balsamic warmth going on.

Jeff:

And it still stays a little bit... There's a there's a little bit of the Aussie hairspray, purpleness to it

Jane:

Okay.

Jeff:

Of the... My era. There's something that really like. It's really, really... It's it's really just an easy way.

Jeff:

It it would be one of those perfumes that if you had an... If if you're people like us, and I know a lot of listeners out there are, when they have, like, a little tray of rotation of perfumes they're wearing right now, if you had it on that, you would grab this probably three out of seven days a week just because it's easy. Anytime it's like, I'm just gonna grab perfume real quick, and you saw this, you're grabbing this because it's just it just wears so well and it's so pleasant, and everybody that you encounter will love it.

Jane:

To me, this this has a little bit of, like, the newborn smell to it, the smell of the newborn baby. Yeah. Kind of salty smell.

Jeff:

Yeah. There's, like, a milkiness to it Yeah. It's as all that sandalwood, I guess.

Jane:

Fantastic. Thank you.

Jeff:

Yeah. Love It's a real $1.35. It's a good deal. Okay. You're too.

Jeff:

My last one.

Jane:

I have just sprayed Jeff his last scent of the cane.

Jeff:

This is the type of perfume that I know in the, you know, context of the game, I'm never gonna get to all of it because it's... It feels like it has so much going on to it. But the thing that really comes at you at the beginning is the Tootsie Roll kind of chocolatiness to it. And it's not even this... It's it's the Tootsie Pop Tootsie Roll chocolate that's in there.

Jeff:

And it's very I was talking about earlier when Henry starts running at you and you're worried that, you know, he might jump into you and rack you. This one's that one. I could tell this one's gonna, like, fill the room and...

Jane:

There's a reason I saved it for last.

Jeff:

Yes. And if I remember correctly, when we were picking our game picks today, was this the one I said, I can smell this in the Yeah. It was like, you were in the office pulling samples and I was in another part of the house and then all of a sudden, I just started smelling a perfume. It was this. And it's good.

Jane:

It's yummy.

Jeff:

It's very... Like I said, it has a chocolatiness to it. It's kind of woody, obviously. Is it smoky? Yeah.

Jeff:

It's leathery. That's for sure. There's, like, saffron. It's really dry. There's not a lot of like...

Jeff:

There's probably fruits. I don't get a lot of citrus. If there's florals, it's going to be like... I'm not really narcissist, but...

Jane:

It's only iris is the only floral.

Jeff:

Really? Yeah. It's dry. There's... There's like hay in there.

Jeff:

Is there is hay in there?

Jane:

There's oud. Does that make

Jeff:

sense now? Yeah. Okay. Yeah. Oud.

Jeff:

It feels like hay. Feels like there could be, like, tobacco.

Jane:

Do oh, here.

Jeff:

Here's the... Please. Yeah.

Jane:

Cocoa, absolute, coffee, raspberry, blood orange. Blood orange, iris, bergamot, sandalwood, vanilla, absolute, patchouli, benzoin, vetiver, tonka, musk, amber, leather, and oud.

Jeff:

The coffee. That's one of the... Coffee is really strong. Yeah. You...

Jeff:

And it's it's kind of coffee grounds and then also then the coffee huck from an espresso after you've already got the espresso out of it. It's not actually the coffee itself, it's like... Or at least the the liquid, it's more of the the solid states of the coffee.

Jane:

Can I tell you what

Jeff:

It's really good?

Jane:

The the brand has to say about this?

Jeff:

Please.

Jane:

In this fragrance, I wanted to capture the sweet sensation of love and the deep pang in the heart that comes with the end of a relationship. Break up fragrance.

Jeff:

I think this... Wow. I I would say that you picked... I'm I'm now just debating, do I like this more than I like the Nosimoto? This is a far more interesting perfume, and like I said, the Nassamado is more like a Tarroni.

Jane:

Just give it to Mio. You know what? You always end loving its compositions.

Jeff:

What's that?

Jane:

You love Mio. We all, like...

Jeff:

Oh, is this Mio?

Jane:

Oh, I didn't tell you. Yeah. It's... It... Sorry.

Jane:

I skipped ahead. This is Amaravita.

Jeff:

Oh, this is the new

Jane:

one? Yes. Okay. I... Yeah.

Jane:

Based on the strength of my faith in him, I would I would go with this one.

Jeff:

Oh, definitely. This... You know, I liked last season. You had last season, I think, in the last game, which was last year's one of his new ones. And I like that one a lot.

Jeff:

I like this one better.

Jane:

It's really But

Jeff:

I still like... What's the Violet Neroli? Or Violet Neroli? Violet Neroli. Yeah.

Jeff:

That's still

Jane:

that's been on my want list for five years. Get it together. Just buy it. Okay.

Jeff:

Mayo has such an awesome line.

Jane:

Yes.

Jeff:

And so, okay. That's a great one. I'm glad

Jane:

I'm glad you put that one in there. Yeah. I think that we maybe we should wear this a little bit.

Jeff:

I thought this was gonna be a Runholz, but it's not as no offense to Runholz because they're great perfumes. This isn't clumsy in the way that run holes

Jane:

can be clumsy. You can say that run holes are clumsy and with it...

Jeff:

They're running in, like, the notes are running into each other and then they eventually become really beautiful and it becomes, you know, once it settles down, but this was quite evocative and...

Jane:

Runtals are like like, you're going on a trip you're gonna be locked in for a few hours.

Jeff:

Yeah. And it's, yeah, you... It's like, this is not what's on the brochure, you know? It's like, but this is well done. Wow.

Jeff:

Good for him.

Jane:

I love it. Okay. I'm glad you

Jeff:

like This is really good. Okay. Last one for you. I have just sprayed Jane her final perfume of the game.

Jane:

This is dry and wispy and smoky and woodsy. Today, I was watching with Henry all of these very old, like, nineteen twenties cartoons

Jeff:

Yes.

Jane:

That he loves. There's one called

Jeff:

Very into those.

Jane:

Called Hell's Bells, I think, by the Fleischer studio. Sorry. I let my kid watch demonic stuff. It's this great cartoon about, like... It's a cartoon about hell, basically.

Jane:

And all these, like, little flames of hell are leaping up, and they become, like, these dancing figures, and that's what this feels like to me. It's... But it's also, like, it's cool in the way that Kyoto is. Yeah. You know what I mean?

Jeff:

Yeah. It's it's similar. Yeah.

Jane:

It's a bit like that, but it's a little bit more fiery and smoky. Yeah. It's like a a little bit of a rained on bonfire. There's something kind of green going on. I like it a lot.

Jeff:

Yeah. I really like it.

Jane:

It's very, like, naturalistic though Mhmm. In a way that maybe I would have been into a fragrance like this ten years ago, but this is not so much my vibe these days. However, I I like it.

Jeff:

Let me give you the notes. It's chamomile and red pepper.

Jane:

Okay. The chamomile makes sense.

Jeff:

I see the red pepper makes sense to me. Like, it has this kind of, like, earthy, vegetal side to it. Yeah. Geranium, musk, and water lily, incense, cedar and sandalwood, amber and patchouli. Came out in 2014, so that tracks with ten years ago.

Jeff:

It's a Marc Buxton.

Jane:

I I feel the florals coming out Mhmm. More now.

Jeff:

It's a great wear. I recommend, like, giving in a wear.

Jane:

Okay. Yeah. You're right. This is just, you know A riddling about the game is, like, I I never feel like we give these fragrances a a fair review because it's difficult to judge something within the first five minutes and

Jeff:

get

Jane:

a definitive answer. But, yeah, it's it's aggressive.

Jeff:

I... The throwback to your sixth sense people, you know, they evolved into that line, and this was originally part of that line and a scene that they were doing with movies. And this was inspired by a movie of the same name of the perfume from 2013. It's a Michel Gondry film, Mood Indigo. So this is Mood Indigo by

Jane:

Gondry. Take me back.

Jeff:

Yeah. No kidding. I haven't heard that name. By Moth and Rabbit is what it's being Yeah. Released under

Jane:

I like it.

Jeff:

Yeah. It's nice.

Jane:

Cool. Not wowed by it. I'll be honest. Yeah. Okay.

Jane:

So definitely the Cirrus perfume was my favorite that you pulled for me tonight, and that was pretty, fantastic. Remind me the name of that perfume.

Jeff:

Cyborite Cyborite, s y b a r I t e.

Jane:

K. Alright. Yeah. That's... That is fantastic.

Jeff:

That's your... Oh, nice. I think I'm gonna go I still... I'm gonna go mayo because now that I just picked up the... What is the one by Nosmano?

Jane:

Microdelirio. Microdelirio. It's got that mushroom note, and it's, like, very mushroomy to me.

Jeff:

It's also settling into kind of that amber slop.

Jane:

Amber slop?

Jeff:

The amber slop.

Jane:

The amber slop accord that is... That is our era. We are in the era of Yes. Amber

Jeff:

We are in the Amber Slop era, and that is starting to rest, but I really enjoyed, like, up to this point. Yes. So I'm gonna have to go Mayo, and Mayo is stayed true to the kind of coffee, chocolate, earthy woods that... It's kinda just staying there, and that's what I want out of it. That's where I want it to stay.

Jeff:

It's quite beautiful.

Jane:

And it's it's delicious, but it's still funky the way you expect a meal to be. Yeah. And you remember when I was on this quest, this crazy quest for a coffee perfume, I never quite picked

Jeff:

that. Oh, that's right. Gosh. Yeah. Throwback.

Jane:

Yeah. Maybe I finally have after all these years.

Jeff:
