Full show transcript:
Hey, dude.
Hey, buddy.
You uh you remember in the latest season of Clarkson's Farm, how uh Jeremy got that uh cool like remote controlled tractor. Yeah. So Pocatello got one. The city of Pocatello Parks and Wreck now has a remote controlled lawn mower uh in their equipment fleet. Ooh. Yeah, it's pretty cool. It's got the big like tracks on it. It's out there like mowing the weeds down, which is kind of cool. Yeah, so now they're saying they'll be able to maintain some of the community's toughest terrain, uh, which is kind of cool. So you it can do some steep slope stuff, hard to reach areas. Uh it can get in there and uh take care of that stuff, which I think is pretty fun.
Dope. Um, it will also be used at the Nordic Center to help maintain trails in other areas where traditional mowing equipment may be difficult to operate. So uh yeah, they'll be able to kind of use it as a groomer on some of the snowy trails.
Pocatello, Oh, that's cool. Yeah, and it's kind of a fun uh you know, bright red little dude with flashy lights on top. Uh and they're out there mowing, mowing lawns with a robot. Cool.
That's exactly what we should be using AI and robots for.
Mow the lawn, robots, do all of this other stuff that we don't want to do.
Yep, because I'm tired of it. Go mow the lawn. Quit making art. That's right. That's what people should be doing. Go mow the lawn. Yeah. That's right. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, robots. Yeah. Go mow my lawn. Cool.
Good job, Poke. Yeah. Should we start today's show? I suppose. Okay, cool. Here we go. Hi. Hi. Friday morning. Oh. A deep breath. Is that uh just to take it all in?
Just to ease up a bit, I guess. Oh no. I I told you a minute ago, I go, I don't want to play today. What do you want to do? Go back to bed. Nah. Boring. That's not boring. You're awake now. No, I know, but I could also go back to bed very easily. All right. Now that I'm up. I'm here.
I mean, if I'm up, I might as well just be up. Yeah. You know. If I'm gonna be awake, I might as well just be awake. Yeah. I guess. And if I'm awake, I might as well be earning money, so I might as well go to work.
No. See? Oh, that sounds terrible.
If I'm at work, I might as well stay here a while. Like all day. Okay. And then go in. Yeah. And then go home. Okay. Because that's that's what you gotta do when you have a job.
I know. How do you a job? If you don't have a job, don't get one. What? Just kidding. I'm just kidding. I don't think that's how it's. No. Yeah.
Well, uh, I'm here. I'm here. I'm awake, I'm rocking. It's Friday. I'm awake and rocking. Yeah.
I'm not yet, but I will be. Don't even worry. Yeah. I always find it. I always find my groove. Did you fix your chair?
Well, maybe. Maybe a little bit. I'll tell you about it. Okay. This chair's been making me crazy. And I just noticed that I might have fixed it. Big day. I know. Big day, bud.
I know. What's going on with your chair though? Nothing. No. Something. Why?
We'll talk about it. Oh no. What'd you do to my chair? I didn't touch your chair. Something's wrong with your chair though. What's that mean? We'll talk about it. 705. Chair talk. I put it in the show. Chair talk coming up at 7.05. Ooh.
I can't. I can't even wait.
Good news is next, and then chair talk. Bins and needles. I know. Isn't that exciting? Baited breath.
Waiting with baited breath. Oh, I'm excited. All right. Good morning. It's Friday. Hi. Chair talk on the way. Chair talk.
I suppose you want to hear some good news. Lay it on me. Well, I know. What were you going to say? I cut you off. Lay it on me. Lay it on me, brother. All right. Okay.
All right. See, I told you I'd park up. Yeah.
Here we are. This is uh a story for dog lovers and their furry best friends. Uh in Baltimore, they have uh a thing called Tails on the Rails. And uh in Baltimore, they have uh trains that get you around. Okay, and this is a yearly festival that features train rides, puppy play dates, and a festive yappy hour on October 25th. So coming up in just a couple of weeks, the dogs and their owners can explore the historic railroad museum, take a scenic one mile train ride together, uh-huh, and then head to the park for a play date. And then the day continues back at the museum with uh drinks for humans, doggy vendors, a howl o ween costume parade.
And proceeds from the ticket sales go directly to support local animal shelters, which is great. But isn't that fun? Tails on the rails.
Yappy time, yappy hour. Yappy hour. Yeah.
Yappy hour begins at one PM. The one mile one the mile one express train ride happens at two. And then uh they hang out at the at the park for an hour and then they go back where they have more yappy hour. And the costume contest.
I wish that my dog got along with other dogs.
I know. So we're gonna do that. Something like that would be a lot of fun. Uh and maybe if we socialized her a little bit more, that would help.
But we can't socialize her because every time we try to socialize her, she just gets mad at other dogs.
We gotta have uh another dog that is like uh like an older Yeah, something like that where where it's like, hey, listen, you need to chill out, little one. That's the kind of dog we need our dog to hang out with.
We need our dog to hang out with a better influence. Yeah, yeah. Anyway, kind of fun. But I think that's a fun uh function.
It is a cute idea. Little dog festival happening in uh in a couple of weeks. If you want to pack up the dog and go there, you want flying with I think Baltimore. You want to fly with the dog to Baltimore? Sure don't taking a Ravens game. Maybe I knew I could talk you into it with I mentioned Lamar Jackson, and you're like, oh yeah, okay.
Yeah, but I just we'll go without my dog. I'm Or I'm not flying with my dog.
Why? She's mellow. What could go wrong? It's only hours on an airplane. It's good news. It's time for chair talk.
Been waiting. I've been waiting all morning. I know.
Uh 40 minutes ago, we were like, let's let's talk about chairs. And so here we are.
And we did not say that. You said that.
Well, you asked a question about my chair because I've been complaining about how squeaky my chair is. Because it has been awful. Yes. Like I every time I'm editing audio, like I'll be we'll finish the show, I'll be putting together the podcast, and I'm editing audio, and here like, and as I'm sitting here and I'm talking, like I we sit in these tall draft chairs. Uh-huh. Uh that are uh, you know, like studio chairs, but they've got arms and they've got a little swivel to them, and they've got the little uh hydraulic thing.
You can make them taller, shorter. How do you like your chair? I like it. Yeah, because we had broken ones for a long time. It's terrible for like three years I sat in a broken chair. Yeah. It was terrible. And it'd been here since the 90s.
The hydraulics on my last chair were broken, so randomly it would just like Right Pushed push me down. Right.
So we got new chairs, was a big to-do. Other people in the office were upset that we got new chairs, even though I sat in a broken one and you sat in that one for a good couple of years before we even said anything.
Right. So uh anyway, we got these chairs. Someone, I don't know who sat in my chair and and made it real squeaky.
I don't know if they sat and spun around in it. It couldn't have been you. Uh nah. Nah, I mean, I only sit in here like eight hours a day. Right.
It wasn't your fault.
Someone sat in the chair and made it all squeaky. Not you. for sure No It's not me. I take care of my stuff. So it just started one day. And I was thinking maybe the screws were loose, maybe the screws were too tight. Maybe so I made some adjustments yesterday. I was trying to see, and it got worse, and it was like really bad. So after you left, I was still complaining about it.
Yesterday, yeah. Yesterday you go, come tell me where this noise is coming from. Yeah. I went, no. I said, I hate when you do this because I don't know where it's coming from. It's coming from the chair. I can't localize the noise.
The noy is so I'm complaining to uh our boss Jade yesterday. I'm like, dude, this chair is driving me crazy, man. And he goes, hold on. He comes in with some WD40. I told you to do that. And he and he gets down low and he goes, make it squeak, and he's listening for where the squeak is. And I went, that's what I'm talking about.
That's exactly what I'm saying. And so I'm I'm like, you know, moving. He goes, it sounds like it's coming from everywhere. I'm like, yeah. And he's like, but it's also like maybe it's up high anyway. So he uh he put some uh WD forty like underneath the seat where the metal post sits.
Uh-huh. And uh and he's like, just kind of work that around, work that in there, see if that fixes it. Well, it was still a little squeaky when I left yesterday, but this morning fixed.
I'm so glad you had a dude to do that because when you when you told me locate the noise. Uh no. Uh-uh.
So then we were working on stuff on my computer over here, and he's like, let me grab this chair. And you went to move your chair. Stand up real quick. Oh no. If you guys broke my chair, roll your chair. What's going on with your wheel? Why is it so hard to roll?
I actually knew that was happening. What is going on? I don't know. I don't necessarily need to roll it.
He couldn't move it. So he he went next door and got a different chair. This is a different chair. No. Oh. No, that's your chair. He couldn't move your chair, so we went next door and got a different one that would roll. Why didn't he fix it? Because he was like, what happened? What'd she do to her wheel? And I went, I have no idea. I don't go over there.
I don't know what I did. I didn't do anything. What's wrong with your wheel? I don't know. Why didn't you fix my chair? I don't know what's going on with your chair. Well, come localize the noise.
It's not noisy, but it won't roll. You guys broke my chair. No. No. You said just two seconds ago you knew that was going on.
I didn't. I lied. You guys broke my chair. No.
Some broke the wheel or something. What's going on?
I don't know. I just said I don't know.
Did you step on the wheel? No. Did you roll over something? Is it the guy like a napkin stuck in?
I don't know. Why didn't you guys figure it out?
Because we had other things to do.
Fix your chair, but not mine.
That was one of the things we had to do. Yes. Anyway. Something's wrong with your chair. It doesn't roll around right.
I don't care about it. It doesn't bother me so much. Okay. But you could have fixed it. So didn't. Yeah, I know. Worry about yourself. Yeah. Well, listen.
Huh? I I'm so excited that it doesn't squeak. I can't even stand it. Big day. Big day for you, Josh. This has been Chair Talk. Okay, have you seen the big news coming out of Pocatello this morning?
No. Uh yeah, this was like filling my feed. Uh ISU is building a new facility next to the dome. Ooh. So uh the north side. Uh, if you if you just look up, I'm just gonna search uh ISU dome and it'll come up right away, but you can see this thing. Uh it is the new Idol State University basketball arena.
Oh, cool. It is gonna be built on the north side of the existing structure. So that is uh into the parking lot on the north side. Uh and it is a cool looking facility. It's gonna be a multi-use. Obviously, they'll be able to do big basketball games in there and actually have like right now where they doing games. Read.
That's where they used to do games when I went to school there. But that was 20 years ago.
Sure, but that is a great practice facility, maybe not the greatest for like hosting, you know, full-on games and tournaments and stuff like that. So now they'll be able to do that, but they'll also be able to host uh concerts in this uh arena. Oh, cool. Um, and they'll be able to do you know, volleyball, other court sports uh in there as well.
Yeah. So it's kind of cool because uh it's gonna give them uh uh you know, them being ISU a new venue for sports and uh you know multi-use stuff. So you'll be able to have uh concerts and I'm sure comedy shows and like all kinds of fun stuff, uh, you know, tours that can come through uh and stop there, which is that is cool, really, really exciting. Yeah, I'm trying to see uh when it's expected to like be built, but it's like a 70 million dollar project. Whoa, uh yeah, no kidding. Uh it's pretty pretty awesome.
Um it is known as the ICCU Bangle Arena, and it is estimated to cost between 70 and 80 million dollars, funded entirely through private philanthropy. Uh is that the right way to say that? Philanthropy. Philanthropy. Thank you. Sound out the big words, Josh.
Philanthropy. That's why I have you around. Uh, which is kind of cool.
So uh anyway, that is uh that's really neat. And I don't see a timeline, but I'd imagine it's gonna take him, it's gonna take some time. It's probably got to take a couple years, right, to build that out.
I would imagine so. I mean, it's not like you're building a drive-thru. Like this is uh this is kind of a big deal. So anyway, really, really cool uh new thing happening on the ISU campus in Pokemon. The ICC ICCU Bangle Arena.
Correct. Did you say that? Uh huh. Well, cool.
Yeah, I'm excited. That's uh that's a big deal.
We never really go check out, we always not always. A couple of times we've gone to check out some ISU football games. Right. And I like that.
I thought the homecoming thing, the parade's fun. I like Banglefest in the parking lot of games is fun. And I really like the
football games there because the arena is indoors.
Yeah, yes.
Well, we go to BSU games, it is frigid.
Yes, it is. You are correct. You are correct. Uh but anyway, congrats to ISU. That's gonna be a really cool thing.
We went to see a show last night. Yeah. At the colonial theater.
Yeah. You went to cry through a show.
Oh, I knew I was gonna cry. Yeah. I went in knowing I was gonna cry.
Well, and you knew that because you know that when you hear a cello, it brings up all your emotions. What is it about the cello?
I don't know. It hits me right in the guts.
You said that, you were like, in my guts.
It's just what I told you last night was the cello can it can it can express every emotion. It can be happy and light and fun. Yeah, and then it can be real deep and mad and angry. And then it can be real sad. Sure. It hits everything.
Yeah, it's melancholy. It's uh excited. It's it is definitely all those things. And you love the cello. I love the cello. Now, this this group, uh Sons of Serendip. They also had uh a harp, which you don't often see a harp being played. Uh but that was pretty neat.
Yeah, and somebody got pulled up from the audience to play the harp, and I was curious. She said it's lighter than you think, because that was one of the questions I had was like how heavy is. Tip it back a little bit. Sure. And rest it on the phone.
But it has a it has a pivot point. So it's designed to be balanced and not like overburdensome when you're playing. I imagine if you try to lift it, it's heavy. There's no way that thing's not heavy.
So this group, Sons of Serendip, were on America's Got Talent. They were on the ninth season of America's Got Talent. They got fourth place. I don't know how they didn't win because they who won. Phenomenal. Oh, some musician.
Some magician. Yeah. Oh.
I whatever. I I don't know how they didn't win because every song they played was just tear jerkingly beautiful. Yeah. It was so beautiful.
Yeah. When they played, they played Bridge Over Troubled Waters, which always gets me. I couldn't even handle myself. You say waters? The second I heard the first few notes and I recognized it.
I went, I can't stay. Exactly what you said. You're like, I can't do this. Why don't you mumbling to yourself, and then I hear, and I went, All right, it's fine. Like it's all I handed you a napkin at one point because I felt like you needed it.
It's it was so beautiful. Just so beautiful. And the crowd was like silently like listening. It was lovely. Yeah.
So when are you gonna get the cello? And are you just gonna cry every time you're playing it?
I well, I thought about playing it a couple of years ago. Yeah. I was like, I should really just take lessons for this. But I just honestly would rather listen to professionals play it.
You don't want to play it yourself.
It's less about me wanting to play it and more about just listening to people who can play it well play it. I think.
Because I think the first time uh you sat down and had the bow and and went to go across the string. I think that like just the just the emotion of like actually making the sound, I think you'd be like, that was crazy. I don't know what to do. Hold on. And you'd be emotional about that. Oh, I would. Yeah.
It's so it just gets me in the guts. In the guts. Yeah. All right.
Well, it was a beautiful show.
The cellist, um, I don't remember his name. He was saying that he started out playing the saxophone. He was taking taking saxophone lessons.
And you love the saxophone.
And he said that he just got tired of standing. It was like, what instrument can I play where I'm sitting? Uh-huh. Brilliant. Yeah.
Well, uh, great show. And if you don't know Sons of Serendip, you should look them up.
And if you missed the show last night, I feel sorry for you, son. I feel bad for you. Because it was it was good. Phenomenal. Yeah. And if you happen to catch them somewhere, do it.
Well, it looks like tonight they're in 2015. I think they're twin, yeah. So you still have a chance. You just have a little drive. I might follow them around. You are? Yeah, it might become a groupie. So beautiful. You're a cello groupie. Is that a thing? It is now. Okay.
Okay. There is some controversy on the internet. I saw this yesterday. Uh okay. It's a Dodgers fan. Okay. And he caught a foul ball. And he's a 30 year old dude.
Or, you know, 30 range dude, give or take. And he caught a foul ball, and everybody in the crowd is like, give it to the little kid. Give it to the little kid. And everybody is calling him classless because he was like, I'm not giving, I'm not giving this ball to the kid. I've waited 30 years to catch a foul ball. I've been a Dodgers fan my whole life. I'm not giving it to the kid. And he's getting a lot of flack because people are like, You're so tasteless. I can't believe you wouldn't just give it to the kid.
And I go, I don't, I don't know. I'm kind of on the side of the the guy who caught the ball. Right. He's been waiting his whole life to catch a foul ball. Why should he give it to the kid?
Yeah, I mean, and he's and he's a lifelong fan. Like a big moment for him too. And uh, and in the video, I'm watching the the the subtitles here. He says, I'm sorry, I can't.
I'm not giving it to the kid. Yeah. And it's a big deal. And it's a cute kid.
I mean, you know, for what it's worth. Uh, but also uh, yeah, he's been waiting too, and that's kind of the luck of the thing. Like, not that the kid didn't have a shot at catching it, but right.
I think it's one thing, because you've seen the videos where like a kid is there waiting to catch the ball, and then somebody steals totally agree.
That's one thing. Right. Because that has happened before. Yeah. But uh Yeah, no, he shouldn't be getting uh he shouldn't be getting um harassed about that. Agreed. Uh one person in the comments said forced generosity is not generosity at all. Oh, yeah. Yeah. That would then just be like, well, I had to do the thing.
And the guy, the man who caught the ball, he's pretty stoked about it. He's like, Oh, I can't believe it. I finally I've been a fan my whole life. I finally got a ball.
Yeah, that and someone else pointed out that the kid who they show in this clip is is probably three. Yeah. And somebody said, uh, the kid's like three years old, he doesn't even know that he's at a baseball game.
Right, right.
Like you know, like he's right. He's by the time he's 12, isn't gonna be like when I was three, I didn't get a ball. Like this is a this is an adult issue, not an issue with the kid. And I think you're right about the kid being upset because they caught one or someone, you know, snagged it right out in front of him or something. That's a different situation. Right. Like this guy caught the ball completely fair and square, and uh it's his ball.
I think the internet needs to leave him a little bit alone. I totally agree. And I don't think it's classless that he's not giving his ball to the little kid.
Yeah, and the and apparently the internet is completely split on it. That's interesting. And then somebody said the internet is not split. There's like three vocal people who uh who care about the kid not getting the ball.
Isn't that always the case?
It's just usually the loudest person in the group. room. It is the loudest people. Yeah. I think the guy uh he he should keep the ball. It's his ball. And and honestly, if if the kid is upset or the parents of the kid are upset or whatever, uh then the team or the the you know, go to the gift shop and get the kid a ball, you know. It doesn't have to be that one if he's you know, he didn't catch it, it wasn't snatched out of his hand.
No, and the kid's not even close to him. The kid's kind of like a couple rows back looking very uninterested.
There's a whole bunch of other people around who didn't get a ball.
Like kid's like, what? I don't even want that ball. I just want a hot dog. What go get me some cracker jazz? Yeah, what are you talking about? Can I have a snack?
When do we do the stretch thing? Chocolate milk. Yeah, I don't think he's too worried. But anyway, interesting. Interesting.
I just don't think, yeah, I don't think everything needs to be a thing. A thing. Yeah.
He caught the ball, fair and square. It's his ball. It's the way it goes. Sorry.
Sorry, not sorry. Yeah.
I am so happy you're gonna talk about this because you uh you just love Kirk Cousins.
And he I do just love Kirk Cousins.
He's the simplest of men, and he is the as you call him the best boy in football the nicest boy in football. Nice, nicest boy in football. Uh and he really is, but he's he lives simply.
I mean, the dude's making bank, and you think like he could have anything he wants, but he lives a little humble life and he gets his hair cut at great clips.
Yeah, he does. He goes in, there's a video of him talking about it. He goes, they have an app, and you can see how long it takes to get your hair cut. Yeah, you can see what the wait time is, and if it's under 15 minutes, he's like, I'll sign up. And he goes in and he sits down in the chair and they're like, What can we do for you today? And he pulls up his own head shot.
Yeah, from from when he was playing on the Falcons. He has a he's currently the quarterback of the Raiders, and he uh has a picture from his like uh the thing that pops up on the TV and he goes, Kirk Cousins. That thing. Uh he has that picture that he shows them. He's like, This is the haircut I want. Can you do this?
And they're like, Oh, yeah, we can make that happen for you. And he's like, Great, let's let's do it. He is the nicest boy. Yep. It's so funny. Isn't he just the nicest?
The nicest boy. Uh and he's playing some good ball, which is fun. So uh they're doing really well.
I know they lost. they just lost to the Chiefs Yeah, that's hard though. Who do they play next? Let's look and see.
Oh, I don't know. I haven't even pulled that up. I got it. Hey, but while you're doing that, I do want to remind you that if you are a sports fan, we do have a an entire radio station devoted to sports. Now I don't want you to leave our show, but if you like sports, we have 105 the goat that you can listen to. And uh we are carrying Denver Broncos, Utah Mammoth, Utah Jazz, NFL games, NCAA, college football games, all kinds of stuff. Uh so you gotta check it out. It's got a website, 105thegoat.com. Or better idea. Yeah.
If you want to get your sports
information, listen to Chantel talk about sports because everybody knows she's got the facts. Here's the thing. I love when you talk about sports because you approach it from a completely different angle. If you want numbers and type and people, you know, talking trash about everything under the sun, that's the goat. It does that well. But if you want a little raccoon who just has a big old bucket of garbage that she wants to throw on your line.
It's not always true. I don't always just talk about garbage. I talk about the nice.
didn't say what you talk about is garbage.
What are What are you saying?
I'm I'm trying to say that if you want like just chaotic, non like fully researched, not fully researched.
I said some of it. It's not mired in factuality.
Right. No, heaven forbid. There were actual research behind any of them.
There is a gentleman who we work with here in the office, and he does not like when I talk about football. Right. Which makes me want to do it more. Right.
And then but I like your approach because you approach from the emotion of it. You're approaching from the storylines. You're approaching from I don't like how this person behaved on the field. Like you've got a different perspective. And I like your perspective because it's not just and uh they're leading in the number of uh completed passes. Like, okay, great, but how are they as a person? And you care about that.
I care about the the person behind the helmet shoulder payouts. Yeah, sure. I care about the the heart underneath the pads. Oh look at you. I know.
So anyway, I like it when you when you talk about it because it's a different it's a different conversation.
I like having football conversations with our son because he is all about stats and figures and numbers and facts.
And I am like, yeah, but uh what's his wife like? Yeah, how is he as a father?
You're like, yeah, but I saw a video of him holding a baby, and so he's a cool guy.
And then Beck will say, Well, actually, he's got some charges.
Yeah, before when he was in college, he did something bad. And then you go, Well, I don't like that guy then. Well, how quickly you turn. Uh anyway, Kirk Cousins gets his haircut at great clips, and he has a photo of himself to show what he wants when he goes in, and he gets it and it gets perfect. Yeah, and he's like, That's a great thing.
But if the wait is over 15 minutes, he won't go there that day.
No, he'll try later.
He's Such a sweet little boy. So funny. He's a grown man. He is a grown man, but he to me just looks like a little 12-year-old boy that's like, I get to play football today.
Yay. I was running some errands with Emory the other day, and we went into a store, and there was a young uh a young man there who helped me out, and he he was making idle chit chat. It's probably part of his job, or they're like, you gotta talk to the customer.
Customer service. And he was like, How's your weekend? Are you doing anything fun for your weekend? And I said, Oh, I'm you know, doing this and idle small talk, right? And then he was telling me that it was his birthday and that he was gonna go to a haunted attraction, and we started talking about our favorite haunted attractions in the area. And we were having a great conversation. Like at first, it turned it was like, oh, we gotta do this.
Yeah, you thought like it's gang. Yeah, we gotta do this transactional, right expected conversation.
But then we found some common ground and we were able to have a conversation. And it was actually quite lovely. Okay. And then as we were leaving the store, everyone was like, Who's your new best friend?
Of course she was. I don't even know his name, but I know that he's going to this haunted attraction this weekend and it's his birthday. Right. So that's exciting. It was just nice.
People like to be seen. That's a big deal.
And as I was walking out, I go, you know what, Emory though, it was really nice just to have like an interaction with somebody. I think so much nowadays.
These self-checkouts and all that stuff.
Communications and interactions just get DoorDash, contactless delivery, all that stuff. Yeah. Yeah. We were at the store.
I was at the store with with my friends over this past weekend. And I went to a checkout that had a person, and my friend goes, You're gonna go to a person. Yeah. And I went, Yeah, I kinda do.
I kind of want to I prefer that. Like I kind of just want some. Especially if I uh like if I only have a few items, like if I'm gonna do a self-checkout, it's because I'm like, I don't want to burden somebody with bag and my stuff or whatever. Or if I'm in a hurry, like I'll uh quick in and out. But if there's a an like an active lane and somebody's got a few items in front of me, and I've got like just a few things. I'm gonna I'm gonna go through the line with somebody.
Well, and it just feels nicer. I felt nicer just having that little conversation with that young man. Yeah.
I just felt better about I thought I thought I saw something about uh retail stores starting to uh cut down on the amount of self-checkouts because they've had so much like inventory loss and oh shocking and yeah, no kidding, right? And uh and so anyway, I I I believe I saw that. I'd have to dig it up somewhere, but um anyway, that would be interesting. I I don't care for it.
I just don't want to get lost in the world of computers anymore. I we're all just floating around. Let's talk to each other more. Oh no. What talk more? I know.
I do that all day. I know it. All I do is talk more.
You just gotta we just gotta have more connections with people.
I totally agree. We need more connection. That's a big deal. It's to feel better. I feel better after having that connection with him. Well, that's nice. It was nice. He's my new best friend. Aw. I don't know his name.
It was his birthday, and he's going to a haunted attraction, and that's all that matters.
There were some researchers in Canada who say that permanent standard time appears to be better for your health than permanent daylight savings time. They found that keeping clocks on standard time year-round would mean more morning sunlight in winter, which helps regulate your mood. Gotcha. Your sleep and your internal clock. Yeah.
And later sunrises in winter can be especially tough on people. Sure. And they said that ending the twice yearly clock changes would benefit people either way. Would benefit. They said ending the ending the twice yearly clock changes would benefit either way, but standard time is preferred. Yeah, interesting.
Uh I know like they're trying. Who is they? They, the American government are trying to say enough. Enough with this. Uh so it's interesting, but I think the plan was to stay with the time we're currently in daylight saving time. Uh, which is where we're at now.
Okay. Which ends like November 1st, if I'm not mistaken. See, when is it? It's like I'm pretty sure it's like Halloween night. You get an extra hour. Yeah. Yeah. Sunday, November 1st. Yeah. So Halloween night is an extra hour long because we fall back.
That'll be great for all the sugar crashes. Yeah. Yes.
Yes, it will. It's kind of uh an interesting thing though. Uh to get that extra hour on Halloween night. That's fun. What are you doing?
I was trying to remember the spring forward fall back. Yeah. Okay. That's all.
Oh, you were just whispering out loud. I didn't know what you were trying to do. I do that sometimes. No, I know. I've been married to you a long time. I know. That's why I was trying to figure out what you were saying. Because I was like, what?
I was talking about it.
I thought you were trying to figure out how many days the month had. Because I normally you do that. You'll be like 30 days.
Yeah, whatever that thing. But I'm like, you know, October has 31, because how long yeah, I wasn't doing that.
Well, that's what I thought you were doing. And that's why you were whispering it because you didn't want to be caught.
I was whispering, spring forward, fall back.
Yeah, okay, cool. Yes, true. So as far as I know, the plan is still to fall back. I haven't heard other people.
I haven't been told otherwise. No one's told me, hey, Chantel, we're gonna do this thing. Yeah. No one, no one said that to me.
So until I hear differently, I'll just be prepared to, you know, change the microwave in the oven, like usual. It's a big to-do. It is interesting though that this came from Canada. And the reason that's interesting is because they're so far north, uh, on the earth. And so they are going to see darkness for longer during the winter naturally. Uh so they're gonna have different data than if you were to look at somebody who was closer to the equator who doesn't have a big fluctuation in uh in daylight hours. So uh it's interesting.
I would just prefer to not do the daylight savings.
You would prefer not to spring ahead.
Yeah, just keep the clock the same. Yeah. Like let's not do this. Okay. Just an idea.
I mean, uh, is it a big burden? I mean, I get like emotional toll and like like having to deal with the time change with your body and your sleep schedule and everything else is tedious and it's disruptive.
And so I do understand that. But is the is the physical changing of the clocks a big deal. It used to be. Well, yeah, because you had a whole wall of clocks, and now you've you've whittled that down to a good handful. I'm trying to edit her throughout the house.
We did have a wall of clocks because I really like clocks.
And I like wall of clock. You've hung them in different spots. So we've got the the big one in the living room, we've got the little one on the wall downstairs still. You've got a bunch of them still in your craft room.
Uh, but they're not like they don't have batteries in them, so you're not gonna have to worry about it right this second. And then you've got the one in our bedroom, and you have the one in the kitchen. There's two in the kitchen, two in the kitchen,
two in the kitchen, one in the living room, one in the bedroom,
and then the microwave and the oven. So I have five. Yeah. So there's like seven total clocks that have to be changed. Five. I just said five. Plus the microwave and oven. Those don't count. Yes, they do because I do them.
I let you run around do the analogs. I hang out with the digital ones because I just have to go clock, doot, doot, doot, clock, done. You pick the easy ones. That they count.
You gave him the easy ones. Yeah. I when we moved those clocks. I got kind of sad because I really liked those clocks. Well, you still have them. I know. I just don't know what to do with them.
I know. Because we were gonna change up how we were decorating. So you need to you need to either figure out how you're gonna build a clock room or a clock room. No one will sleep in there.
What I know is that when we did have the clocks in the basement, that's where our guests slept. And they're loud. They would be like, There's a lot of clocks.
And they're not all clicking at the same thing. They're like all wonky. So you're getting click clock clock click clock clock clock clock like all night.
Yeah. I hated daylight savings time because I'd have to 25 clocks. I know. Yeah. Now you're down to seven. Five for you.
Anyway, if something changes, I imagine we'll talk about it for now. Everything is still get ready. Halloween night.
When I get the phone call, it says we're doing away with that. I'll be like, I will let the people know.
Okay. Sounds good.
No one tells me. I'll tell you why. Why? Because every time somebody tries to tell me something, I go, I don't want to know because I want less responsibility.
In life in general. Quit telling me things.
I know that we did good news already this morning, but here's another story about good news. I like good news stories. There was a woman who was heartbroken. She had just had a breakup and she was flying, and she was feeling disconnected and alone. And she wrote in a notebook, she had a notebook on a plane. And I she I don't know what she wrote in it. She wrote something in a notebook and then she passed it around to people on the plane.
Okay. And the first person she took it to started writing something. I'm trying to get to the story of where like the first thing that she wrote. Like what was the prompt? Yeah, she said, let's create a story together. That was her prompt. Okay. And she invited people to write and have fun.
Okay. And she passed it to the first person nervously. And he wrote something, and then she was like, cool. And then he passed it to somebody else.
She wrote something. And then it got passed around the plane. And then she didn't get it back for about an hour and a half. And she got a little bit nervous, like, ah, it's destroyed. It's ruined. And then it came back to her. And then she read it over the PA on the plane. Really? Yeah. The story that these people created together.
That is a really interesting thing. I mean, if you're on a long flight, even you know, a few hours, uh, that is a great way to pass the time. Isn't that cute? Yeah. And anybody who wanted to participate could, and anybody who didn't could just pass it on to the next person.
That's easy. And you you're left with uh really fun, creative, interesting story. Because I would assume you write, you know, let's create a story together and you pass it to somebody and they open the line and they go, Oh, how do we want to start this thing?
Once upon a time, you know, and whatever. And then you pass it to somebody, and then they're gonna read that part and write another part, and then their next person's gonna have to read two parts and then write another part, right? Is it like a sentence at a time, or maybe people were riding?
It was paragraph. Multiple pairs, yeah. That would be that would be a really interesting thing to have, and then go like
everyone who was a part of that for a few minutes is now going to disperse back into the world, but for just that little time they were on that airplane.
They were all collectively doing a thing. I think that's me. I've there's been circumstances, like not this specific example, but I've tried to create something and get something going, and then you send it to somebody at the end of the day. Like a slow clap. Oh, no, thanks. I'm not gonna participate. And so then you're like, no, sometimes if we're eating dinner and you write like there's a napkin and you draw something and then you pass it on down and say, hey, add to this photo. Right. I like doing that.
We do that at restaurants while we're waiting for food. Yeah. It's good. It is fun. I like that little uh sense of community. I think that's a really cool thing. And it's a good story. I'm glad you shared it. I know. Yeah. Second edition of good news.
Look at us with our good news Friday. Wow.
Would you rather this or that?
Would you rather have the perfect Halloween costume every year or the best Halloween decorations on the block? Um I'm gonna go for costume. You are why?
Because Here's why I'm gonna pick the house decorations. Okay, why? Because uh the house decorations you get to enjoy for many days. Okay. And I feel like costume, you maybe get like three or four days use out of it. Okay.
Okay. Depending on what events you go to. Maybe you wear it at work or you wear it at a party, you wear it on Halloween night. Like maybe you get like three to five wares out of it. And then you got to put it in a band in store forever.
Yeah, well, that's how I feel about Halloween decorations.
Right, but Halloween decorations, you you put up Halloween decorations now. We get to enjoy them until you put them away, which would probably be like a week or so after Halloween. So we get to enjoy them for a longer amount of time.
I get what you're saying, but if you've got the best Halloween costume, as we talked about yesterday, there's multiple events that you can go to throughout the month of October. Sure. So you could enjoy your Halloween costume for days and days and days, too. Yeah, you can. I just would rather have the I'd rather have the costume. Is that right? Mm-hmm.
I like the decorations. It's fun. The house is all uh it's got witch hats hanging and little skeletons hidden around the place. That one's still in the closet.
No, I I pulled him out. You did why? Because I didn't know he was in there, and then I was like, What are you doing in here?
He was a skeleton in the closet. So it was a it was a Halloween pun. I got it. Where'd you put him? I put him on the plant. Oh, we have a big weird. You put him on the one plant sitting in there.
No, I actually had him standing up. Yeah. And it was actually really funny because he was just standing up and I had him one hand around the plant. Yeah.
And then we have a bird of paradise in the living room. That's what he's on, yeah.
Right. And then I went to do something else and he fell. Ah. And I couldn't find his leg. It looked like his leg popped off, and I was looking everywhere for his own. It was just folded up. Well, hold on. You're getting ahead of your the story.
It was probably just folded up.
I thought maybe the dog took it, and I was like yelling at the dog. I'm like, Did you take the skeleton leg? And she was like, No, I didn't take it, bro. Yeah, it was folded.
Yeah, it was just folded up into his body. Where would it have gone? It folded into his body. That's what happens. Yeah.
So then I was like, well, you're not gonna be able to stand.
He's just kind of plunked down in there.
No, I sat him down and I put his knee up and his hand is resting on his knee. No, he's cool. He's hanging out. You'll see.
I made him walk around the house and his hands uh are are perfect to do six, seven. And uh Beck didn't like it. No, it's a dead meme. No, I know, but he walked into his room and and uh Beck had his headset on, and I walked him in there, and he goes, Come on. Like, what are you doing? And then I said, Look, how many steps did it take me to walk to your room? And he goes, I don't know. And I went, six seven with those with the skeleton. It was fantastic taking decorations. Okay, would you rather this or that? So you know how Lagoon got rid of the Jet Star 2, which was sad.
It was kind of sad. We were there last weekend. Yeah. Uh, and uh you saw that uh where it used to be and where the
uh what do they call the flying aces, uh, which is the the old um uh sort of swing airplanes with the sails. Yeah. Where that used to be located is cleared out. It's now dirt, they're starting to put in footings and electrical and all this stuff for a new roller coaster. And the new roller coaster was unveiled earlier this week. Uh it is to be called Jree Grand Prix. Uh that's the name of the uh new roller coaster.
It will open July next year. Okay. So it'll be ready to go. Here's the big deal. Roller coaster enthusiasts are going a little bit crazy about it. Because the roller coaster that they're bringing in is an Intamin hot racer. And it is the the type of roller coaster. It's made by a company called Intamin. And it's a hot racer, and it is the first hot racer in America. So uh, which is a big deal. It's the first Intamin roller coaster at Lagoon.
So it's a completely new thing. Uh it will feature uh two trains of 10 cars each, and you sit single file. You do not have over the shoulder restraints, a lap bar only. And uh you do go uh up to 40 miles per hour, up to 50 miles high, 50 miles, 50 feet high. You imagine 50 miles. You're going uh up to 50 feet, maximum height, 40 miles per hour is your maximum speed. You'll be on the ride for a hundred and two seconds because of the way it's designed. You only have to be 48 inches in order to ride it un uh what's the word, unassisted.
Okay. Uh so you don't have to have or unaccompanied. Uh so you don't have to have a parent with you if you're four feet tall. You can ride it by yourself, which is really cool. It's uh it should run 700 and uh five riders per hour, so it's pretty quick. Um it's a dual launch, it's a multi-launch, so there are two trains, which I think means that you will have dueling rides. So they'll have like a blue car and a red car. Oh, cool. And they will run simultaneously sort of as a race. It's a hot racer.
Yeah, I was looking at some video. Uh I get nervous about lap bar only rides. Why? Well, especially if it's a ride that goes upside down. Yes, this one does.
And what I like about this ride too is you sit directly over the rail. So you are you you get what they call a true cockpit sensation. Like you're in an airplane. It's gonna be really cool. I just I think it's gonna be fun.
I was riding a ride when we were at Lagoon, the cannibal ride. I didn't ride the cannibal ride. And I it only has a lap bar. Yeah. And we went upside down a couple of different times, and I got real nervous about the lap bar. I said, when was the last time this was inspected? What if this is faulty?
Oh, it's not. It's inspected like every day. Uh let me tell you that what I think is gonna be really cool too, is they're going to theme this uh to Lagoon. So it'll be unique. It's gonna be a big colorful roller coaster. Uh, and it'll be a lot of fun.
Here's here's something else that we noticed uh while we were there. The pond has been drained. The zoo is no longer the train is currently decommissioned. They said they're planning to bring it back in the future, but they don't they didn't have a timeline on the train returning. Uh so for the time being the train is just sitting at the station. Uh the pond is drained, and the zoo is no longer. And that has created a very, very large area for an additional uh something.
Something uh just to the south of Laguna Beach. And so here's uh here's kind of what I'm what uh our son who's uh big into roller coasters, and I've been talking to him a lot about these roller coasters from uh BNM. Uh and there has been uh kind of a rumor running around that they've ordered a large roller coaster, a very large roller coaster.
Oh, really? Very large. And they have uh they being Lagoon have submitted uh permit paperwork to have a ride over a hundred and fifty feet tall, I think, which is huge. If they have a roller coaster over 150 feet tall, and it takes up that whole space, this could be big.
Like this the BNM makes really, really good roller coasters, like big, big, big stuff. So it'll be really interesting to see. There's a lot of big stuff coming. A lot of rumors right now.
I was just doing some research because I was like, where did the animals at uh the lagoon zoo go? Yeah. And they were rehomed. It looks like they had six large cats. Oh, okay. And they were quietly transferred in December of twenty twenty four to the wild animal sanctuary in Colorado. Oh, that's fantastic. So they're all good.
I'm glad they're being well taken care of. That's good news. Um anyway.
That's cool. I like lagoon. I like roller coasters. Yeah. I get nervous about a lap bar.
But you gotta you gotta look up like the B and M wing coaster. Okay. It's crazy. It's very B uh and Persand M. Yeah, I got it. Wing. It's really cool.
No, I'm probably not gonna ride that. Why?
Because that's the same. You're free flying out over nothing. You're not gonna ride that. Doesn't that look fun? But you're not gonna ride it. Why? Because I know you. I think if it's a wing coaster, there's nothing like that around here.
That's so cool. Anyway, we'll see. We'll see what happens.
It's gonna wrap up the show, though. And we're gonna go have a weekend now. Okay.
After more work. But for now, we're gonna get out of here. So have a great rest of your Friday. Have a good weekend.
Weekend! Enjoy it. Stay warm. Supposed to be kind of rainy and colder. We're gonna have a big weather change this weekend.
So uh winterize your stuff and put away your gardens. That's what I've got on the list. Sprers. Yep. I gotta do that. I gotta go to the store. I gotta get some stuff. I got things to repair. I got stuff to do.
Okay. I need some dirt. I got projects. I got seeds to plant.
I got late fall seeds to get in the ground. I got stuff to do. I got I gotta get busy. Have a good weekend.
I'm gonna be busy. Have a good one. See you. Bye. Okay, bye.
