Challenging myself to record a podcast episode a day for my 50th year on this planet.

Hello, and welcome to The
Daily-ish for September 14th, 2026.

I'm recording an episode every day
for this, my 50th year on the planet.

I was all set to record this afternoon
around 4:00 PM, give or take, and then

I started getting weird emails about
Microsoft family account activity and

realized that it seemed like one of
my kids' accounts was maybe either

being hacked or had been hacked.

long story short, because it's late and
don't have time for the long version,

which you can read on my blog, I'll
include the link in the show notes.

But basically, he was tricked into
handing over his auth code to his account.

We had a secondary authentication
on his account, but he was tricked

into handing that over, and then very
quickly, they changed his email address,

changed his password, and with Microsoft
in particular, there's basically

nothing, almost nothing you can do.

And we tried their account recovery tool.

We, we tried to get it back.

No dice, nothing so far.

So unless you're out there in
Microsoft land and can offer some

help, I'm still getting the emails
of, like, things they're changing, so

I can see what email address they're
changing things to and using it for.

So it'd be good to shut it down if
nothing else, but I don't have any

tools or ways to get at that, so sucks.

It also sucks because his Minecraft
account is tied to his Microsoft account

because Microsoft owns Minecraft, and so
any stuff he was doing there is also gone.

as well as our license for
Minecraft, which he's going to

help pay and buy another one for
our family that he uses primarily.

So only fair, but tough lesson to learn.

Could have been worse.

There's no real monetary
things tied to the account.

He only really used it
to log into Minecraft.

So other than one other game that
he's going to lose some, potentially

lose some skins and whatever that he's
earned over the years of playing it,

nothing really serious has been lost.

But still feel for him

In other random housekeeping news,
I've got a badge from Transistor

for publishing five weeks in a row.

So thanks to the daily format, it helps
me get some achievements from my podcast.

So, so thanks for that.

Uh, listener John asks, do I have another
300 grievances left in the tank to

finish off the season, so, or the year?

But, uh, I'm sure they will come
up, whether it's winter, whether

it's family life, et cetera.

There'll always be petty grievances
hanging around that I can throw in

if I have nothing else to talk about.

another listener, Jen emailed
in saying she agreed with me

regarding Apple Duo pricing.

Quote, "Apple has lost their damn minds.

Would one be cool?

Absolutely.

Will I buy one in the next year or two?

Definitely not."

And she also chimed in on parents in
school zones saying, quote, " I'm sorry

to report that the entitled parents
live in California just like they do in

Saskatchewan with illegal U-turns, illegal
drop-off spots, and breakneck speeds."

Just slow down, parents.

It's, like, gonna be okay.

You're gonna get to work just fine,
and your kids will all be safer for it.

And regarding microwave strategies,
Matt replied saying, "Not an actual

strategy," but he just waited until
his kids moved out to keep a microwave

clean, which is very fair And I also now
understand why my parents waited until

my sisters and I moved out before they
did any renos and upgrades on their home.

I always kinda wondered why they waited
until the house was almost empty to

start doing that kind of stuff when
we would've enjoyed it, I think.

I'm not sure if it'll be every day
because that feels like a bit much,

but I figured I should thank my
Patreon supporters every once in a

while since I'm doing these episodes
and they are supporting me on Patreon.

So maybe Monday's episodes will be
the thanks to supporters episode.
