The Foundations of Chassidus with Rav Shlomo Katz

In this shiur, Rav Shlomo Katz and the chevra of Shirat David continue learning Yayin Yashan and move through an extraordinary chain of teachings from the Chafetz Chaim, Chovot HaLevavot, Reb Aharon Karliner, the Me’or Einayim, Ma’or VaShemesh, Yesod VeShoresh HaAvodah, the Imrei Elimelech, the Baal HaTanya, and Yosher Divrei Emet — all circling one foundational point: what it means to actually believe in Hashem’s love for every Jew.

These sources push us far beyond the idea that Hashem’s love is something earned through performance. They ask us to believe that His love and compassion are beyond our measurements, that every Jew can give Him real נחת רוח, and that even the smallest act of Torah, tefillah, or connection carries a weight we barely understand.

What is The Foundations of Chassidus with Rav Shlomo Katz?

A new learning series with Rav Shlomo Katz on the sefer יין ישן by Rav Nissan.

Rav Shlomo returns to the inner foundations of Jewish life through a sefer that brings the world of Chassidus into clear, living language.

These shiurim are about the basics in the deepest sense: Emunah, closeness to Hashem, the Jewish soul, and the foundations that help a person live with more depth, simplicity, and truth.

Okay, חברים יקרים. Good morning, good I need one, come on. I know, brother, you know why I need it? Cuz I'm I'm I'm I'm on like average of three and a half hours of sleep for the last like five nights. Give me one.

From good morning? Yeah. It's good morning, morning, morning, morning, morning, morning, morning, morning, morning, morning, morning! Boker Tov everyone.

חודש תשרי is sponsored by the Reinytzes לעילוי נשמת ר׳ מנחם משה בן ר׳ מנחם and לעילוי נשמת שמואל בן ר׳ שלמה הכהן.

And today okay, so first of all like this, the week is sponsored by my in-laws Ben and Barbara Celski in honor of my niece's Bat Mitzvah, אמונה. I also want to dedicate for the refuah shelemah my father-in-law is not feeling so well, Binyamin Efrayim בן I don't know right now, ben Sarah, I have to remember his mother's name. Today is sponsored by Shlomit Cohen Weinerb.

Even though it's כ״ו תשרי, this day for the rest of our lives until Mashiach comes and as long as we live in a world that still has that that the English calendar has relevance in our lives, this day will forever be a day that's waiting for קל נקמות ה׳, קל נקמות הופיע. It's obviously very strange today, not strange, but apropos that what we're going to be doing today is going to be mashlim what we began on on Monday. And what we what we got to on Monday, what we started talking about on Monday, Can you pass these around, please? is the love that Hashem has for every single person.

And of course, on a day like today, it becomes very, very hard to fathom this concept that the love that God has for each and every one of us is so beyond our wildest grasp that we can't grasp it at all. We have no havanah, we have no understanding of it. It's completely beyond us. However, like we saw on Monday, had if we knew, then we would say we would be roaring like lions towards God in a in like a longing, cleaving way.

We would be roaring towards Hakadosh Baruch Hu if we actually felt love. We get stuck, as much as maybe once a year around Yom Kippur time we get out of the whole aveirot, mitzvot business and we're into like the it's really just about hitkashrut. We're We're We're We get right back into it very fast in terms of God loves me based on what I did or what I didn't do. And Chasidut is constantly trying to not, God forbid, make you ignore the focus on doing good and the focus on staying away from bad, but that that does not define Hashem's love for us, which is not the way most of us that grew up frum were taught.

Just isn't. Today things are, חסדי ה׳, much better, but most of us that were brought up in in in Orthodox upbringings, God's love for us, A, wasn't spoken about bichlal. If it was, it was more about being a good boy, a shayne boyele, a shayne maidele, but not We're We're We're extract what we're what we've been now tapping into, and this falls into the chapter of emunah, that my my belief has to be that Hakadosh Baruch Hu, exactly what we started last week, saying that the love that Hashem has for us is למעלה מכל השגה, and that the whole world was created for us to bask in the light and in the beauty that Hashem created for His chosen people. And like you see like we ended off saying, it's not just that Hashem loves everyone in Am Yisrael as a it's not that He loves us as a whole, as a unit of a people, He loves each individual no matter what it's like, with with this passionate love, בלי שיעור וגבול, without any any gevulim, without any borders, במידה שהוא למעלה מהשגתנו, on a measurement, you see on the top of ג׳, in a measurement that's above our capability and understanding to grasp.

And now he brings the famous vort from the Chafetz Chaim: וכמו שכתב Chafetz Chaim, this is remember the Sefer Yayin Yashan. I was in touch with the author yesterday. I told him I wanted to give him nachat and I have chevra in chutz la'aretz that are working right now on getting the copies to here, בעזרת ה׳. Until then, I'll be I'll keep on I'll keep on photocopying.

So we start off from the over here in the top line: וכמו שכתב החפץ חיים זכותו יגן עלינו בספר שמירת הלשון.

שידוע שהקדוש ברוך הוא אוהב לאדם יותר ממה שהאדם אוהב את עצמו. What a line! What a line! Heiliger Chafetz Chaim, what a line! It's known that God loves man more than man loves himself. So maybe half of you are thinking, what do you mean? I have all these like insecurity problems, it doesn't say much, I don't love myself, I hate myself.

No. No, not exactly. You may like to sound, you know, deep, but no.

ידוע שהקדוש ברוך הוא אוהב לאדם, what a line from the Chafetz Chaim.

God loves man more than man loves himself.

Chovos Halevavos, this is why I'm in love with this sefer. We're going from Kedushas Levi to the Chafetz Chaim to the Chovos Halevavos to Reb Aharon Karliner, כולם.

Chovos Halevavos, chevra, who wrote Chovos Halevavos? No, that's that's Chovos Hatalmidim.

Chovos Halevavos? Rabbeinu Bachya.

It's God's compassion and mercy on us is greater than any concept of compassion that you can think of. And he adds here, any compassion and mercy that you feel from another person, right, that someone someone displays to you, it's all from Hashem's rachamim, and he put it in someone's heart to have compassion on you.

We have to think about these things out loud. Think about like that we we love certain people that display compassion and mercy on us, and it feels very nice, vechuli. If someone has that for us, it's only because Hashem put that in that person's heart. And it's always, you got to always go back to the source.

This is an ikar and yesod of emunah. It's part of rachamim that comes out in a different way.

Now, this is what we said before. This is what's hardest to believe because the way we're programmed. This line is the hardest line for us to believe due to our programming. All of what we mentioned before about the infinite love and the rachamim and the chemlah, the compassion, the mercy, the love is there whether a person is worthy or not.

Can you say about someone they're not worthy of Hashem's love? Can you say that a person is not worthy of Hashem's compassion? You may say they're not worthy of that person's compassion, right? There's someone right now that's not worthy of my compassion. That's cuz it's me, right? No, it's not anyone in this room, it's some whatever, not for now, but If a person's by הקדוש ברוך הוא, וכל זה הוא בין אם, someone that was mezalzel on the kavod of my family, so right now I don't have, I just want to clarify, it's nothing, it's no one that lives in Efrat, whatever.

This what we're speaking about has nothing to do whether you can you cannot say that there's a person that's not worthy of a that there's a Yid that's not worthy of Hashem's love.

Now if if your natural reaction is to try to find הלכות רודף, דין רודף, or or the פורש מן הציבור, you you no no no, there has to be someone that there that's not worthy of God's God's compassion, if that's what's troubling you so much, you got to check in with yourself and ask why is that where I naturally gravitate towards? That's another parashah. Yes, Dr. Gan-Cher. If I don't have rachamim on some fellow Yid, Hashem still has rachamim on me? I think even even sorry, even It's infinite. It's not something that's based on action.

That that's what we're trying to say here, it's a it's a כלל קבוע embedded in creation, right? Now Gefen started saying, sorry to cut you off, just I was feeling very strong with what he's saying over here, davka even more so, because you need more rachamim at that moment to get you to open your heart to another person. You see, rachamim, it's not this bank. It's not like I go to a bank and I say, how much money do I have I go to the teller, how much how much what's my account? Do you know anyone that like checks their bank account every morning to see like where they're holding in life? The user wants a clean and accurate transcription of the audio. Guidelines: - Primary language is English, but contains Hebrew/Yiddish/Aramaic words.

- Transcribe non-English words using Hebrew letters only (no nekudot, no transliterations). - Output as a single uninterrupted block of text with no line breaks or paragraphs. - No timestamps. - Omit filler words (um, uh, etc.).

- Audio-grounding: transcribe only what is audible. Let's listen and transcribe: 00:00: 00:01: "Right. So, can you imagine like if we checked our bank account every morning to check if we're worthy of rachamim and love? It doesn't work like that. That's not That's not what it is, cuz we'll generally probably go to a place of finding places of that that will justify not being worthy of God's compassion and God's love." 00:18: "Now, unfortunately, this even this language was hijacked by another religion.

And that's why even speaking about these things, God's compassion, God's mercy, for many people, they're very it activates something very negative within them. Yes, Gefen." 00:35: (Gefen speaking): "What I was going to say was rather that going back one line to the Chovot HaLevavot that when you are zocheh to have rachamim on someone else, that's from outside anyway. So when you don't, it's the same amount of from the outside. So in a certain way having compassion on someone is just being a channel for Shechinah, and it wasn't something you can take so much credit for in the first place." 01:03: "Say it, דעת דקדושה? All good? For now? Okay.

Me too, for now." 01:10: "Again, What does this sound like? What Torah does this sound like?" 01:21: "Rabbi Nachman, אזמרה!

Where we have to find the good points. But here he's saying even if a person is a רשע, חס וחלילה.

01:53: "Why? Now, obviously, why why are we laughing?" 01:56: 01:57: "Because it's incomprehensible." 01:59: 02:08: 02:08: "You see, because God doesn't work for us. You understand? God's not human. He's not Jewish. It's God is...

We box him to make sense of our life all the time. But the Ribono Shel Olam is Uncle Moishy had made the greatest attempt. He really did. He did! He made the greatest attempt, right? I think the deepest the deepest line in that song is the word 'truly'.

Did you ever notice that? Right?

ד' is here, ד' is there, ד' is truly everywhere, right? Like that word 'truly' is a very very, nachon? Rabbi Shlomo Karliner is saying, God loves the greatest rasha more than we love the greatest tzadik. Sit with that for a second. Ponder upon that. That Inhale that.

That's a That's a wild And let me ask you a question, chavrah. What's the nafka minah for me if I actually internalize that statement? What's the nafka minah?" 03:19: 03:20: "Or Or at least I should Let me start with stop hating. Right? Let me stop start with stop hating. If we're supposed to emulate God's ways, whatever that means, let me start with like putting certain things in perspective.

We want to love what Hashem loves, right? There's certain things Hashem hates, like putting up matzevot, it says like in the There's a lot of chasidut on that. But what we want to do is walk in HaKadosh Baruch Hu's ways. I want to I want to believe.

Rabbi Shlomo Karliner is saying, it's just that I'm so threatened by something. What am I threatened by if I do this? If I start loving reshaim, what am I What What threatens me when the in the first thought when I think about this?" 04:10: 04:14: "What am I What are people going to think about me? Very good. Very good. Meaning, meaning, why should I if God's going to love me anyway, then why and He loves that guy anyway, then why should Why am I killing myself, right? Why am I killing myself? Very good.

Very good." 04:37: 04:43: "beseder, that's in נכון, אבל זה מסביר את ה את עומק ההתמודדות with with trying to figure out how that works together in my life.

Let's finish this paragraph.

דברי בינה in" Let's double-check non-English terms and spellings: - rachamim (compassion/mercy) - Gefen (Gefen - name of student) - Chovot HaLevavot (Chovos HaLevavos) - zoche (zoche) - rachamim (rachamim) - Shechinah (Shechinah) - דעת דקדושה? Wait, listen at 01:03: 01:03: "Say it, דעת דקדושה?" Or what does he say? Let's listen closely to 01:03: "Say it, Dr. ...?" "Dr. Gancher?" Ah! "Dr. Goncher" or "Dr. Gancher" - that's English! "Dr.

Goncher?" or "Dr. Gansha?" Let's re-listen at 01:03: "Say it, Dr. Gancher? All good? For now? For now. Okay. Me too, for now." Yes! Dr. Goncher/Gancher.

What does this sound like? What Torah does it sound like? Rabbi Nachman! Azamra, רפ״ב!

ואפילו אם הוא רשע גמור! Where we have to find the good points. But here he's saying even if a person is a רשע חס וחלילה.

02:02: "rasha in Am Yisrael more than we love the greatest tzadik." 02:24: "Ribono Shel Olam" 02:44: "Hashem right? Hashem is here, Hashem is there, Hashem is truly everywhere, right? Like that word 'truly' is a very a very, nachon? Rabbi Shlomo Karliner is saying..." 03:11: "chevra.

What's the nafka mina for me if I actually internalize that statement? What's the nafka mina?" 03:20: "I should love the rasha." 03:38: "what Hashem loves, right? There's certain things Hashem hates, like putting up מצבות it says like in the תורה, לא תקים לך מצבה אשר שנא השם אלוקיך, a lot of Chassidut on that. But what we want to do is walk in HaKadosh Baruch Hu's ways. I want to I want to believe Rabbi Shlomo Karliner is saying, it's just that I'm so threatened by something. What am I threatened by if I do this? If I start loving reshaim, what am I What What threatens me when the in the first thought when I think about this?" 04:40: "This is a prozdor, it's not about then." -> "Because this is a prozdor, it's not about now." 04:43: "beseder, that's in נכון, אבל זה מסביר את ה את עומק ההתמודדות with with trying to figure out how that works together in my life.

Let's finish this paragraph.

Divrei Binah in" Let's check 04:37: Speaker: "It's not about...

Because this is a prozdor, it's not about now." Rabbi: "beseder, that's נכון, אבל זה מסביר את ה את עומק ההתמודדות with with trying to figure out..." Let's check: "Uncle Moishy had made the greatest attempt. He really did. He did. He made the greatest attempt, right?" Uncle Moishy song: "Hashem is here, Hashem is there, Hashem is truly everywhere" "Hashem is here, Hashem is there, Hashem is truly everywhere" Check 02:53: "Like that word 'truly' is a very very big nekudah.

Rabbi Shlomo Karliner is saying..." Wait, at 02:53: "is a very very big nekudah." -> let's listen: "Like that word 'truly' is a very very big nekudah." Yes! Check 01:23: "Rabbi Nachman, Azamra,

Check 01:41: "זכותו יגן עלינו" (zechuso yagen aleinu) Check 01:44: "שהשם יתברך אוהב את הרשע היותר גדול בישראל, יותר ממה שאנחנו אוהבים את הצדיק היותר גדול." Check 03:46: "לא תקים לך מצבה אשר שנא השם אלקיך" / "אשר שנא השם אלוקיך" He says: "לא תקים לך מצבה אשר שנא השם אלוקיך, a lot of chasidut on that." Check 04:57: "uDivrei Binah, Divrei Binah in" Check guidelines: - Output only the text as a single uninterrupted block with no line breaks or paragraphs. - For non-English words, provide only Hebrew letters. - No English transliterations. - No timestamps.

- Omit filler words. - Accurate punctuation.Right. So, can you imagine like if we checked our bank account every morning to check if we're worthy of rachamim and love? It doesn't work like that. That's not That's not what it is, cuz we'll generally probably go to a place of finding places of that that will justify not being worthy of God's compassion and God's love.

Now, unfortunately, even this language was hijacked by another religion. And that's why even speaking about these things, God's compassion, God's mercy, for many people, it activates something very negative within them. Yes, Gafen. What I was going to say was rather going back one line to the Chovot Halevavot that when you are zocheh to have rachamim on someone else, that's from outside anyway.

Me too, for now. What does this sound like? What Torah does this sound like?

רבי נחמן, אזמרה, רפ״ב, ואפילו אם הוא רשע גמור, where we have to find the good points. But here he's saying even if a person is a rasha, chas vechalilah.

Why? Now, obviously, why are we laughing? Because it's incomprehensible. That God loves the greatest rasha in Am Yisrael more than we love the greatest tzadik. It's wild.

You see, because God doesn't work for us. You understand? God's not human. He's not Jewish. It's God is We box Him to make sense of our life all the time.

But the Ribbono shel Olam is Uncle Moishy had made the greatest attempt. He really did. He did. He made the greatest attempt, right? Like that word "truly" is a very a very big nekudah.

Rabbi Shlomo Karliner is saying God loves the greatest rasha more than we love the greatest tzadik. Sit with that for a second. Ponder upon that. Inhale that.

That's a That's a wild And let me ask you a question, chevra. What's the nafka mina for me if I actually internalize that statement? What's the nafka mina? I should love the rasha. Or Or at least I should Let me start with stop hating, right? Let me stop start with stop hating. If I start loving resha'im, what am I What What threatens me in the first thought when I think about this? What does that say about me? What's all the effort that I put in? What are people going to think about me? Very good. Very good. Meaning, meaning, why should I If God's going to love me anyway, then why and He loves that guy anyway, then why am I killing myself, right? Why am I killing myself? Very good.

Very good. Because this is a prozdor, it's not about now.

בסדר, נכון, אבל זה מסביר את עומק ההתמודדות with with trying to figure out how that works together in my life. Lo pashut.

Let's finish this paragraph. UDivrei Binah. Divrei Binah in Divrei Binah is a very important sefer, the Bialer Rebbe. UDivrei Binah כתב בשם haMaggid miKozhnitz.

I love this sefer, chevra. I'm I'm this is like basically it's it's that and the other map that's not this line, it's the other, you know, they don't know if they have the other map, but If I translate this right now, our channel will get nixed. Yeah, 1,000%.

I know, he's like Raziel is saying, "Do not translate this line into English." I'm going to say it again, שאפילו היותר... Yosef is like, "Please, please."

It's not just love, it's not just compassion.

Do you know what you This is very deep right now. Do you know what you give Do you know what you're giving Hashem? Do you know what you give Hashem? If we really were were were holding on a on a deeper with deeper consciousness, and we stopped and we asked ourselves, one second, what did I bring Hashem this morning by let's just say three things that I know are facts? One, I woke up in Eretz Yisrael. Two, I davened and I put on tefillin, I spoke to Hashem. Three, I'm sitting and learning Torah.

I don't know what else we've done. Those three things I assume most of us have done, because let's say two out of the three I saw, right?

There's there's ta'anug, nachat ruach. You know, when a when a father says to a kid, it's like this is this is like a kid's dream.

A kid's dream is to hear from their father or their mother, "You give me nachat. You give me nachat.

That is the that is what we long for, and then of course, we we we we hope we give our kids nachat, but that word nachat ruach.

There's nothing deeper than than feeling that my being in this world is giving So guess what, guess what we're going to see right now? That is happening.

Me'or Einayim, look inside, this is very chazak, שישראל הם דבר חשוב מאוד לפני השם יתברך, the Tchernobler Rebbe says, Am Yisrael is a very important thing before השם, שבשבילם ברא כל העולמות וכל הברואים. The whole world and all of the creations were created for Klal Yisrael.

Even from a great rasha, Hashem Hashem receives nachat.

Okay?

As we learn always in the Gemara in Eruvin, that even the ones that are the most empty, at least that's what it looks like, they're empty of mitzvot, they're empty of kedushah, they're empty of longing, they're empty of of of sanctity, they're filled inside with mitzvot like a רימון.

Maor VeShemesh, another one. This is amazing. Do you understand what we have in front of us? Do you know how many sefarim we already looked into in one page? Did you notice this? And and the way that he does it is mamash, it's not just, "Oh, let me show you how I've learned everything." He went through everything and he sees a theme, he sees a thread.

God's pleasure is through our actions.

When God created the world, He saw, He gazed into the future, and He saw there'd be one people that through their actions they'd be able to unify all worlds.

כמאמר חז״ל, and this is good, we're learning this right now, and I love when this happens, because it happens quite often on the פרשה, בראשית בראשית. Why is the why is the first word בראשית? So, then the Midrash tells us, and Rashi brings it down, בראשית, בשביל התורה שנקרא ראשית, the Torah is called the beginning, ובשביל ישראל שנקראו ראשית.

And even the lowest levels in Am Yisrael are are included amongst this thing that's called בני בכורי ישראל, you're the beginning.

This all falls under the chapter of What's the name of this chapter? Emunah. Emunah. This is belief system. This is core beliefs.

Core beliefs.

How precious is each person's toiling, no matter where they're holding. A little bit, a lot, in the middle, lo mishneh.

Even though we're usually in denial of that, we're quite under the assumption that God's world is just this world, right? Chevrah, there's a whole another chevrah. There's a whole another chevrah, you know what I mean? There's a whole another chevrah that that are operating completely differently than us, with no bechirah chofshit, which is the main kicker. But there's a whole galaxy, I'm not going into I thought you were referring to Misnagdim.

Chas veshalom. Chas veshalom. There's a whole other galaxy, what he called over here, שרפים, אופנים, חיות, עד אין קץ, and you don't even understand how much it is.

And you know what they're all doing, that whole galaxy? What are they busy doing all the time? Praising God, right?

He took you and me and put us in physical form, and He put us להללו ולשבחו, that we praise Him. That we walk around with you know I can't, chevrah, I have to tell you, so many people have reached out since Leil Simchat Torah to share their own personal לא מובן מאליו experience.

So many chevrah, I'm it's mamash rare that it happens to this extent. And and really, you know, you triggered it with that with with with really how you went about this, David, with the with the shirts and everything, it's to walk around living in this state. So, to to to understand that we have the privilege to do something that gives God more pleasure than malachim give God. And this is why God created us in this world.

When you said ברוך אתה השם this morning one time, what we if we can't understand this, it's it's רחוק. It's true. And we're going to end off the perek soon, going back to רחוק and קרוב like we started on Monday.

But in the אמת לאמיתו, and what the Baal Shem and his Torah is always trying to extract, is awareness of the אמת. And the אמת is is that when a Jew is in a state of praising, giving shevach to Hashem, getting out of their own balagan, getting out of the way, stopping to think about how messed up they are, and how messed up their life is, and for a second putting it aside, and just saying מלא כל הארץ כבודו or something like that, we reach way higher than the places that we think are precious by others. We reach way, way, way, way higher. It's the most precious thing in the world.

This is what he's bringing down over here. And now, he ends off this paragraph with someone very important to us, they're all important to us, Who is that? Who's the Imrei Elimelech, the Rebbe of Grodzisk? It's the father of the Eish Kodesh.

The moment we start davenen, the moment we start learning, that exact moment we open a sefer, that exact moment we start Birchot Hashachar, or Ashrei at Mincha, that moment What do they say up in the in the heavens? Who do they say "shoo" to? To all the malachim, that whole galaxy.

They say, "Yeah, chevra, thank you, שקט.

Quiet. Why? 'Cause now לשמוע אל הרינה ואל התפילה של האיש ההוא.

So they're always quiet. In your let's just go let's go in our own world.

So in our own life, they're not always quiet.

Unless maybe by you they are, I don't know.

No, I know, I know. It's like there's always a Yid that's always that always has tefillin on.

I know. No, but what it means over here, I think, is that that could also be, right?

I'm a whole world. And I'm not always learning, I'm not always davenen.

But when I am engaging in that, what would happen to me if they gave me a little like screenshot of of shhh, you know, if that that's what they're telling the the the the serafim and the and the ofanim? And why is this important? Do you want our children Doesn't anyone here want their child to feel that their word mamash shakes heaven and earth? Yeah, we do. We do. And our our children's generation's going to get it. They're going to get it.

Of course, we're it's only been two lines since we quoted a Rebbe, so we have to we have to quote another one.

Meaning by the Baal HaTanya in פרק מ"א, what the point of of of over there in that chapter is to first get us into the the the the recognition, מלכותך מלכות Anyone say that recently?

What was What was your kavana? Daven for yeshiva.

Me too. That was I said honestly, I I pitched that one to you, you know that. What would What What What would be our kavanah when we say three times a day, So what does that mean? You're king in all worlds. Like לית אתר פנוי מיניה, there's nothing vacant of of your malchut.

I don't see it, I don't feel it, but I proclaim it through David Hamelech in Tehillim. I proclaim it. And yet what? That God could choose to say that place is the most precious. This gives Me the most ta'anug.

And in the whole world, from everything that's created, if we believed this chapter, if we believed what was brought down in these words over here, our our lives would be completely different. Our moments would be incredibly enhanced with meaning, with connection. And the patience we'd have for ourselves when things are a little bit shvach would be something else,

So now we're going back and we're circling back to how we started this chapter.

Now let's go back. In what manner Remember Who Who brought this down, the two bechinot of קרוב and רחוק, do you remember? It was the Berditchever.

So in what manner Yesterday was his yahrzeit, so it's important to mention his name as much as possible. It's always important to mention his name. In what manner are we רחוק from Hashem? Hasagah. Hasagah.

What does that mean? Any sense of understanding. Any sense of grasping, of intellectually grasping for sure, even emotionally grasping, right? In that sense, it's רחוק. But now he's going to say, He's the closest of all kiruv.

Through His love, His mercy, His compassion, and the hashgachah over us, He is the closest of God is closest of all closest.

כאילו זה לא הדדי, like it's not Like we have no idea and He He has all the like Well, by us Not mutually exclusive. Yes, correct.

See, by us, our understanding of relating to things, you're either close or you're far from someone. You're not both together. By the Ribono Shel Olam, emunah means that they're both happening simultaneously. And I need to remember that God is רחוק, בתכלית הריחוק, in order to keep me humble from thinking that I could chap.

I remember I remember I told you once, I once stood next to a professor at Hebrew U, a professor from for Hebrew studies at Hebrew U, one time, all Yom Kippur, כמעט all Yom Kippur, and he had a book on the life of the Rambam or something, because he already knew, he understood what the point of of of סדר העבודה was, of of Musaf of Yom Kippur, and he didn't daven, cuz he knows, he grasps it, he chap's it, he chap's.

I mean chap, what are you chap-ing? On the other hand, I have to always remember that the concept of kiruv means that at this moment my words, my mouth can bring tremendous shevach and ta'anug before By what? By doing what? By believing that הכל.

Geffen, you're killing me. You just gotta you gotta give me one more minute, okay? I I see, trust me. That beard is right there in front of me, I see him.

Yeah, it's יין ישן so you can't הבורא פרי הגפן is in full. Give me give me 10 10.

ועל ידי emunah זו, through this emunah, we're going to end this now, end the chapter.

ועל ידי אמונה זו שמלא כל הארץ כבודו ולית אתר פנוי מיניה, through this faith that the whole world is filled with God's honor and there's no place void of Him, if that's true, יכול להתקשר להשם יתברך בכל מקום ובכל זמן ובכל מה שעושה.

You can connect to God in any place and at any time through anything that you're busy doing, מאחר שמאמין, because I believe, שאין מקום ואין דבר פנוי מהשם יתברך, because there is no place that it's ke'ilu, "Oh, here it's not it's not godly," you know. I'll I'll give you I think so I've showed some of you, I saved something very interesting. We moved back to America, we I don't feel like I'm from anywhere because we moved around so much. I say I'm from here, I'm from there, but we moved around so I I moved around more than most people that I know, a lot.

In March of '97, we moved back from from Eretz Yisrael to LA. I was in 11th grade. There was a girl in my class, I wasn't I was in yeshiva then, but there was a girl from my we were in Bnei Akiva, and she was in my class when I was younger in elementary school, that gave me a gift that I still have in my office, cuz it's the first one of the first lines it was like a it's calligraphy of a statement from Rabbi Nachman. I was 16, she gave this to me.

And it's these words, it's a quote from Rabbi Nachman, it says there, This was like it was basically giving me a shtikel mussar, but not mussar, just like ke'ilu hold on to this and you'll be okay out in Smelly, you know? Cuz that's where we're moving back to. She said it's written on there, That when a person walks with walks around with being connected to his Jewish heart, there is no place that prevents you from serving God. Why? Because when I walk around with a

Each place that you go to with the with the with a Yiddishe heart intact, that place everywhere you go, you conquer the world saying, "This is a place now that I can serve God." Why?

כי לית אתר פנוי מיניה, because there's no place void of God. He wants to drill this inside of us, is that there's no situation that a person says, "It's not an appropriate time right now to be like godly." Now, for many people, that's very intimidating and frightening cuz we're chaleshing for a vacation. Some people, after the machzor was closed on Sukkos, Shemini Atzeres, were like, "I could just not feel so bad about Netflix now, right? Or whatever Or whatever it is.

Now I don't have to feel so bad, right?" I'm going to say something startling for some people. Not here, there's nothing I could tell you that would shock any of you anymore, unless I started sounding normal, that would shock that would probably shock most of you. You think it's impossible to be godly and serving God through certain things on Netflix? You hear my question? I don't believe in that world that says it's impossible. Ah, I have to be careful, of course.

But there haven't, there aren't things, listen, the easiest thing, which none of us would probably choose to, you could blow if you really did, you could blow your mind on, like, the National Geographic documentaries. You'd also, you'd literally blow your mind, I mean, at a certain point, it'd drive you crazy, but, meaning, Of course, you have to be smart, but we live in the world.

Rav Yehoshua Shapira, from Ramat Gan, would always quote, "All derachim, all play paths in life are filled with with sakanas everywhere." But there's no place that's void of of the ability to There is no place like that. Now, in your minds, we're probably, you're probably thinking, what do you mean? There's places that are completely tumah-dik and filled, of course. Then, that's a place to right there, try to clean the tumah.

That's a service of God. And if for me, I'm not strong enough, I got to get out of there. That's serving God in that place.

And the moment I do even an ounce of a מאמץ to serve Hashem, one berachah, a little bit, that brings more taanug and nachat to Hashem more than I could ever ever imagine. And when I do that, what does Hashem tell all of צבא מרום, all the legions of above? Shh.

Be quiet. This is emunah. This is emunah. This is real, this is pnimiyus-dik of faith.

This is, this the big leagues already. But this is where we're aiming. This is what we're striving towards. This is the light of the Baal Shem, HaKadosh.

So again, the last paragraph.

ובזה, through this, you can actually mekayem what Shlomo Hamelech says in Mishlei, יכול לקיים בכל דרכיך דעהו. No, I wish Gansher was here, he has to listen to this because I have a great Chaim Dovid quote.

Chaim Dovid has, uh, one of his songs, "Jump into the sea of Torah. In all your ways, know Him, דעהו." This.

You, you elevate everything you do. When you cut yourself some slack and actually begin to believe in this.

וגם מקיים, and you're also with through this type of faith, you're mekayem one of the most important things that Reb Moshe Gurst has a whole book on, and that's the concept of equanimity, of השתוות, השתוות, השתוות.

That That God God is always it's it's constant. What Ah, יפה מאוד.

והוא מביא לידי כמה מעלות, וכמו שכתב the, I think this the last tzadik we're learning from today, Yosher Divrei Emet. This is one, this is the sefer, you should know, I've had rachmanut on you. For the last five years, it's on my shelf saying, "This year, we're going to learn it." It's one of the talmidim of the Maggid of Mezritch. It's a very deep sefer.

Meshullam Feivush, I forgot the full name, very chazak sefer. But at least we have his name, every year it'll be a, a segulah that it'll happen.

What does that mean?

This This is the point.

נרגיל, what does not נרגילה, what's נרגיל?

להתרגל, to become accustomed to.

What does that mean to

To believe that every place and every zeman and everything in the world, at that moment, I can give Hashem nachat. You know, Naftali and I have a very close friend whose father died probably like 15 years ago, I would think by now. And he told us a very deep like, I don't know how close he actually was to his father, but it hit him really, really strong.

It hit him really, really strong. So he told us that he No, no, no. He said to us, what was his exact lashon? About the He said, "I would give anything in the world to spend like two seconds with my father." Yeah. He said, "משהו כזה." And it I remember Naftali couldn't stop talking about this, I mean until today, right? Me too.

He like he would give anything in the world. What if what if what what if he would say, "I would do anything in the world to give my father one more ounce of nachat"? It's the same thing, right? It's the same thing. So what if a person like if we want to go really crazy now, go back to Hachsharat HaAvreichim or Bnei Machshavah Tovah, where the Piaseczner is telling us, doing a visualization of our own funeral when we're in our casket, we're in our and and and we hear the screaming of everyone crying, and we can't do anything about it. And and then then like what would you do to stop that crying? We have so many moments where we could do something that millions of other neshamot can't do anymore, billions of other neshamot.

Who knows how many? We could give Hashem nachat right now. Guess what? You actually already are. And you could do more of it in the later in the day. And you could do more of it later in the day.

That's the emunah, the הרגלה, the התרגלות of emunah.

ועל ידי זה, so because through everything we said over here, תיפול עליו יראת השם יתברך, the yirah of Hashem will fall upon each person, כל אחד לפי שיעורו ולפי הזמן והמקום. It'll come down to you, this awareness, when there's a ratzon for it, each person, in its time, exactly like they need this.

Through this yirah, you actually reach real humility, which we'll discuss later on. But in a nutshell, it's the last line, להיות כאין נגד כח השם יתברך שבכל מקום, to be in a state of ayin, of total bitul all the time. Why? Because if the recognition of מלא כל הארץ כבודו is constantly in front of me, מי אני?

Okay. Yashar koach.

Be'ezrat Hashem, we will learn again on Friday morning.
