And here’s today’s news from Rail Technology Magazine in association with TransCity Rail – on Tuesday the 2nd July 2024.

London Northwestern Railway has unveiled a new proposal for train services between London, Manchester, and the West Midlands.
Under the plans, which are designed to improve connectivity between the Midlands and the North West, London Northwestern Railway would extend its current services between London Euston and Crewe through to Manchester Victoria .
Meanwhile, the existing London Northwestern Railway service between Stafford and Crewe would be extended to Manchester Airport.
The services between London and Manchester would use London Northwestern Railway’s brand new Class 730 electric trains, manufactured by Alstom. This new fleet would also provide a significant boost to capacity, with each 10-car train capable of carrying more than 1200 passengers.

Alstom has commissioned Knorr-Bremse to equip 42 high-performance electric multiple units (EMUs) with state-of-the-art braking, entrance and sanitary systems.
The fleet of EMUs is based on the Coradia Max platform, with the four-car units destined for regional rail services in Schleswig Holstein, in northern Germany.
Knorr-Bremse will start to supply system solutions for the project in early 2025, with deliveries running until late 2027.
The new multi-system order covers electropneumatic braking systems, oil-free compressors, highly configurable brake control systems, brake electronics and sanding systems.

The California High-Speed Rail Authority’s Board of Directors has approved a contractor to design track and overhead contact systems (OCS), bringing electrified high-speed rail in the United States a step closer.
A joint venture between SYSTRA and TYPSA will work to develop OCS for a 171-mile route connecting Merced and Bakersfield in central California.
This action comes months after the Authority released a shortlist of potential suppliers for electrified high-speed trains in California. The new track and OCS design services contract is an important step in the procurement strategy.
119 miles of the eventual 171-mile electrified high-speed route are currently under construction, with 25 active construction sites in California’s Central Valley.
