One Last Hit | A Sobriety and Addiction Recovery Podcast

Attorney Mark Astor started his law firm in February 2016 out of a public library, flat broke, and went 14 months before the phone rang. Today he runs a 15 person firm in South Florida that does one thing: it uses the Marchman Act and guardianship to help families get a loved one with a substance use or mental health disorder into court ordered treatment, and keep them there. Austin was Marchman acted himself in early 2014, so this one is personal.

Mark breaks down what the Marchman Act actually does (assessment and treatment for up to 90 days, with jail as the consequence for walking out), who can file, why it only works when families enforce it, and the story of a client who called an Uber from a treatment center in the sugar cane fields and fled to Mexico. Austin shares what relapse felt like after nine years sober ("like someone's holding my head underwater"), the two of them get into why addiction is a family disease, why some families are secretly afraid of what recovery will change, and the heartbreak of the families who walk away. They close on the lingering effects of a Marchman Act, including losing your gun rights, and where to get Mark's free book, Breaking the Cycle.

What is One Last Hit | A Sobriety and Addiction Recovery Podcast?

Most people in recovery never tell the full story. This show does.

I'm Austin Rampt the author of One Last Hit: The Remarkable True Story of an Addict's Journey to Find Himself.
I grew up in Tampa, spent a decade chasing drugs through eight different rehabs, and eventually fled the country.
I ended up in Mexico surrounded by members of the Sinaloa Cartel, hit the kind of bottom most
people don't walk away from, and somehow made it back.

On the One Last Hit Podcast I sit down with people who have been through it , addicts in recovery,
people who've done prison time, survivors of overdoses,
family members who watched someone disappear and then come back. No polished stories.
No watered-down redemption arcs. Just real people talking about what it actually took to get sober and stay that way.

If you are fighting your own battle, loving someone in the middle of theirs, or you just need proof that people really
do get better then this show is for you.

New episodes every week.
