Like a master surveyor, Jesus gives us clear directions to find a fulfilling, purpose-filled relationship with Himself - a map to the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Charted is a daily devotional written by the junior class at Fountainview Academy (Class of 2019). Based on the book Steps to Christ, this book explores the path to the Originator and Provider of Genuine Joy. We don't have to be confused about the way. The certainty is in the journey: divinely Charted.
If the love of God is in the heart, it will be manifested in the life. The
sweet savor of Christ will surround us, and our influence will elevate
and bless. – Steps to Christ, pg. 83
The aroma of my favorite foods appealed to my senses as I
entered the house. Familiar voices and the sounds of cooking filled my
ears and brought back many memories. Walking into the dining room,
I beamed with delight as I saw the table laden with all the delectable
food that I had missed so intensely while being away at boarding
school. Entering the kitchen, I was quickly greeted by my nana, who
was the source of all this wonderful goodness.
Sitting down at the table, I couldn’t help but stare at this feast
and wonder why I was so fortunate to have such a special Nana.
“Joseph, why don’t you say the blessing?” my dad suggested.
“Sure,” I replied. After offering the blessing, I quickly filled my
plate and dug in. Stuffing myself, I sat back in my seat to let the food
settle. No sooner had I done so than Nana came by.
“Are you already done?” she inquired.
“Yeah, I’m full,” I replied. As usual, she was deaf to that reply.
More noodles showed up on my plate, and of course, I had to finish
them. About ready to pop, I leaned back in my chair again.
“Are you sure you’re full now?” Nana asked.
“Yes, I’m full.” I beamed.
Nana is loved and adored by everyone who knows her.
"Why is this?" you might ask. Well, the answer is simple: the joy and
cheerfulness she radiates comes from her unselfish love and desire
to serve others. Jesus lowered Himself to this earth to serve others
and ultimately to die for us on a wooden cross. Unlike Jesus, Nana is
not perfect, but she is the only person I know who lets the character of
Jesus shine through every time I see her. I want others to be able to
see Jesus shining through me the way He does through Nana.
