Okay, we're back at Giant Conversations
and and as it turned out,

you know, our ~ common co-host Kevin

was having to watch the game in Turkey and
he's on a very much different time

schedule. So we're bringing back our our
beloved ~ guest guest,

Ha.

~ Edward Tauob and

We have the pleasure, and unfortunately
Kevin's not gonna be able to share

in the party here, but ~ I'm assuming
you're as over

the moon happy as I am today.

Me?

Other other than having to get like
antibiotic by intravenous,

you're other than that, you're

Yeah, other

th other than that, I am really and I'm
feeling like like my ~ eighty year

old self instead of some ninety year old.

And yeah, I feel I feel great.

Really excited about the game,

which I watched in the hospital.

~ getting getting my blood pressure taken
during the game was a big mistake.

my God, I couldn't. I wouldn't I wouldn't
have allowed them to take

~ Yeah. Well

I didn't want I don't like to interfere
with the nurses.

They they know they're ch

Although you know,

I was oddly relaxed in the game.

~ I the the whole feeling was so foreign
to me,

it's been so long, that ~ I I actually

I I thought that they weren't gonna lose
that game.

I thought that they were gonna hold on.

And they did.

I

well, I wasn't so sure. But I wasn't
nervous.

~ you know, my blood pressure just was
going up because I was excited

to watch the game. But I also was not
nervous or angry or any of that

or or ~ anxious.

But especially ~ and again,

you know, there's these different things
we can point to as we're talking,

but for me the

the thing that ha stood out of all the
things that stand out,

the one that I c continue to glom onto is
we get the ball back with

an eight point lead with five minutes and
twenty one seconds.

And I'm thinking 1925, right?

I'm thinking every chance we got with the
four point with a fourth quarter lead,

we'd blow it, right? Except at the end of
the season,

the last game when we were playing the
their the Cowboys Junior varsity.

And we held the ball. We held not only
held the ball,

but didn't make panic plays. I mean a
third and seven and they

run scatterbo outside. The blocking as it
was all night was amazing.

And he he gets seven yards or eight yards
rather on a third and seven when they

had to be looking for the run.

It was just more than just a little more
than two minutes left when ~

I think when when that play happened.

I yeah, I didn't have time but I was
trying to find it somewhere so I could
see.

I really wanted to see the blocking and
stuff.

But I'm not doubting for a second that
Patrick Ricard was involved in it.

In the blockings.

Yeah, the I

you know we we we ~ as we often talk about

in this ~ podcast we're we're kind of
throwbacks

and we ~ you know we follow the giants in

in different eras and ~ this

is you know not so much in the in the the
Eli Manning era as much but

You know, even back in the eighties and
back in the sixties,

and the fi I mean the Giants were like a
defensive team.

They were mostly a running team.

And they're a very physical team,

and they'd always were they're giants,

they're b bigger people. And I really
think the team kinda kinda went

away from its roots and trying to

You know, trying to be cute, you know,

especially in the Jerry Reese era after
earning a course he left.

They were like building a different type
of team,

~ but it never happened. And and it it's
it's kind

of mind blowing really that within one
year I I not just that

the team looks better, it's like with

Probably two thirds of the same players
they had as last year at least.

They're they're like a very different type
of style of football on both sides

of the ball. I s really remarkable.

And and I and it's all attributable to the
coach.

I mean it's a you talk about Patrick
Ricard,

that they drafted this this guy at the
tenth pick who's a ~ a a mauler,

but the guy looks like a really good
player.

An athletic baller.

They brought in Tujin,

an athletic baller.

They brought in Najee Harris, who's gonna
land up playing for sure.

They got a guy like Scatterbo already.

~ they they brought in these two really
big interior linebackers.

~ and you know, they basically swapped

Big and

fast and that's really important.

The the the the team speed

Yeah, Big and Fit No, they pray.

They that's what they needed. They they
they haven't had linebacker play in years.

right and the team speed on defense in
general

I don't know that they're

has increased.

I don't know that the team is faster.

~ they may be just as fast,

but I I I think the big thing is they're
bigger and more physical style

of play on both sides of the ball.

And it's ~ and you could see it right from
the beginning.

And you know you know it's kind of
interesting.

~

And again, you know, there's all these
other podcasts out there and and

I I watch them and I love them.

But being that we've watched football for
so many decades,

I think we probably have have like a
little insight into things.

And one insight that I've had is that I I
think I'm at the point that

I have a very good idea who's gonna win
the game,

right from like the beginning of the game.

And to me, the Giants

just looked better prepared on every level
than Dallas

right from the first snap of the game.

They did. They they they just looked
better prepared.

And I was thinking in the first quarter,

you know, I think they're gonna win this
game.

They just look like a better team right at
right now.

Maybe not in a month, but right now they
look like a better team.

And you know, we we're both ~ Oregon fans
and we were you know watching

the Oregon game last weekend.

Wait, you

have to bring that up?

Yeah, because you know, the the thing I
was thinking about watching

the Giant game is that I was hearkening
back to Oregon's embarrassing loss

to to ~ Texas ~ or Texas Oklahoma Oklahoma

Oklahoma Oklahoma State.

State. Oklahoma State. Twenty four point
favorites and they got their ass kicked.

Or really a humiliation. But the thing was
is that when I was watching the game,

I thought

Right from the middle of the first
quarter,

I'm going, I I actually think the Southern
team's gonna win the game.

They look like a b I mean, I'm taking all
my my my prejudices out of it.

I'm they look le they look better prepared
and they look like

Mm-hmm.

they wanted more. And I thought the Giants
looked better prepared

and they looked like they wanted it more,

and and they kind of got the fans into the
game right in the beginning of the game.

And

And of course we know how horrible their
last few years opening games were,

including losing forty to nothing.

I mean, you know, you gotta be kidding me.

I mean and now you look you look at the
Tennessee game.

I watched the Tennessee Jet game earlier
in the day.

Mm-hmm.

And and and ~ Robert Sala was the head
coach and and and Dable was the assistant,

who was the offense coordinator.

And their offense I I

Granted they may not have the players,

but ~ boy was that horrible performance.

That was like

Well, but they

really, really bad.

They spent the money to get the players
and

Some of them next giants.

yeah, exactly. And you know, the fact is
they're okay,

but they're not that good and they
certainly are not players that can lead

a team ~ a leader team's offense,

you know, along with a quarterback who has
got a very good skill set

but maybe needs a lot of help yet.

So y still in all, you know.

But the whole operation looked amateurish.

And it was like it was you know,

Mm-hmm.

watching the Tennessee game, just by
comparison,

and well sure, that's their offensive
coordinator,

right? They

Right.

looked a lot like the Giants of the last
couple of years on offense.

And it really

Yep.

kinda again gets you back maybe the Giants
have just had like incredibly

bad coaching the last decade.

Well, you know, but they've also had some
bad linemen.

You kinda you know, they had guys that
weren't very good and ~

Yeah, but

yeah, but but look at the guys they're
they're generally playing better now.

you know.

Well, here's the thing,

and here's what here's you know,

one of the things I noticed. I don't think
we had a drop.

I don't think our receivers had a drop.

yeah, I saw that. That

was a huge thing. That was a huge thing.

I mean I think that's been

And and and yeah.

I I'm glad you brought that up.

That has been something that has been not
mentioned adequately enough in the last,

let's say, five years is that there was so

Yeah.

many drop passes that you don't even think
about it unless it's a drop pass

in the last two minutes of the game.

Because drop passes was just part of the
program.

I mean I we just it goes on and on.

I I just go back to and I forget what year
it was.

All we gotta do is hold the ball at the
end against the Eagles,

and we've upset the Eagles. And Daniel
Jones throws

Drop pass.

a beautiful pass to Evan Ingram and of
course Evan Ingram drops it.

Right in his hands. Right in his hands.

Yeah.

So I mean, it's like it happened time
after time.

And I I don't think it it is necessarily
has to do only with

the individual receiver. I think s it has
to do with coaching and the

the way you coach attention to detail.

And that's something apparently that
Harbaugh has been stressing.

He and his staff. And so, you know,

like, they're snagging balls. Like like I
I Isaiah,

~ Isaiah likely caught a pass.

That was a third down pass. It wasn't a
very long pass.

Late in the game, late in the late in the
game.

Yeah, and it was w

he stretched way out to get it.

Yes.

He caught

it, hand catch, brought it in.

I I don't remember when a giant would
necessarily make that.

catch at that particular time in the game.

Well, you know,

one thing I noticed and you know,

we're we're not saying anything that
anybody's not talking about.

These things are all like self

Right.

evident,

but the but I think the interesting thing
is there's so many of them.

It's not just like one thing, it's like so
many things.

And like what you're talking about likely
and and those things.

I do not believe and I think

Jackson Darrell was something like 23 out
of 28 or something like that.

Yeah, twenty th yeah.

Very, very high number.

I don't recall one pass being caught with
anything other than people's

hands. Every single and I'm thinking,

no, no, that's not a co that's not a
coincidence.

And I think that, let's say they dropped
somebody like Slayton.

~ it could have been this and this,

but he's just not gonna have.

somebody on his team who doesn't catch the
ball with hands.

I mean, he's not gonna do it. And and and
the guys are just plucking the ball.

You know, even I kind of was on to this.

The actual the play, you I know the play
you're talking about with likely near

the end of the game. But actually the play
that really opened

my eyes was near halftime,

you know, after the interception.

And they go bam bam bam and they're in the
end zone,

right? But a very big play.

In it in twenty five and twenty

eight they scored in twenty eight seconds.

There was still twenty seconds left in the
half.

On three plays, bam, bam, bam.

Yeah.

And and in every case the root receiver
was wide open.

But so first of all they schemed them
open,

Mm-hmm.

right? And if you remember like the last
couple of years with this genius play

caller we had, ~ it

Huh.

always seemed like somebody was draping
all over.

There was never like guys

Yeah.

running free.

Uh-huh.

Okay,

so he schemes three guy, they scheme three
guys free,

okay, on three plays. But the one in the
middle caught my attention actually more

than any of them. And that one because the
first one was to neighbors.

The second one was to Mooney. And the
third one was the touch,

Yeah. Second one was to Darnell Mooney,

right, where he toe tapped right.

it was the toe touch

the touch. But what Mooney did,

which was really interesting, is that he
toe tapped,

Yeah. And

okay,

and it wasn't the best pass because he was
totally open.

And he and he took that but he caught the
ball with his hands,

right? And he's not a hand catcher,

actually. Yeah, he you've looked at

really? I well that I don't know.

his past, he's not. He was not a hand and
it really caught my eye that this

guy made a great two hands catch.

Excuse me, audience.

What yeah. Yeah,

I I thought it was a beautiful play.

I s I excuse me, I'm like

But everybody, even even the

even those swing passes, right?

To like ~ Singletary, right?

He was catching with his

For the third for the last touchdown.

hands. Everything was with people catching
with their hands.

And so I'm thinking, no, no. And you
notice they only threw one pass

to what's his name? The other tight end,

Johnson. What's his first name?

Yeah. Which he caught, by the

way, which is a surprise.

Yeah, but y the thing is is he caught that
with his hands.

Yeah.

And he's not a hands catcher and they're
not gonna throw the ball to him unless
they

He's

trust him.

he's not much of a catcher. Well,

maybe he will be now. Yeah, I mean,

But may maybe he'll become, maybe he will.

that's

But it was so interesting.

that's the thing we always think and hope
is that these guys can develop.

And maybe, you know,

in the past there hasn't been the kind of
coaching that could develop them.

And now maybe it will. We'll see.

But I you know, it's a great start,

that's for sure.

Yeah, we'll

see. Teams will I mean they're gonna lose
games.

They're not going sixteen and ~ obviously.

Yeah. Well

And there's teams

that will be prepared for this and who
have better run defenses than Dallas

does. Okay,

Right.

so teams are gonna be onto it.

But ~ I I trust this coaching staff that
they will somehow

adjust to each game as it comes.

And I think that.

They're gonna I think they're gonna be a
good team.

I I mean you never know about injuries,

but injuries aside, I think they showed

Injuries scare me.

well, they're every team. You know,

they're a wild card, you don't know.

There's w they're you know look look at
look at ~ the Rams.

what's his name? The guy they got what's
like that

Yeah.

rusher what's his name, the the rusher.

Yeah. Garrett?

The what's his the defensive end

they got from yeah, Garrett. He he had a
knee injury,

he just had surgery, he's out for a month.

I know. I know.

And they and

they they really were counting on him and
you know players players get hurt

and you don't know. But they they you
know,

injuries aside, I think this is a pretty
this is a pretty good team.

I I I think that the one area that

to me looked really kind of sketchy was
the defensive backfield.

That

Mm-hmm.

but of course they were playing against

you know, two of the better receivers in
football.

But I just don't I I

They be the best.

still don't I don't trust them there.

And then the guy they paid a fortune to,

~ Adibo, ~

Hardly played.

hardly played. He was on special teams.

He was on special teams. It's interesting

Yeah. Yeah, I know. So but look

though, the look at the talent of the team
though,

because they have more depth. Okay,

two of the guys who played special teams
were Adibo.

And and and ~ Tracy.

Yeah.

So everybody if you're not gonna start,

you're still gonna be on special teams,

even if you're like a starting type of
player.

So this these are two guys who last year
were starting and now they're playing

on special teams, but they're probably
good athletes.

And you know, they also the thing I
noticed on I I was really watching

the special teams and they really didn't
have that much

plays because I think there were there was
two kickoffs.

Well that we know ~ the only special teams
were after the touchdowns

and to start the game and at half

And one punt.

And one punt in either direction,

I believe. I think each team

Only one pint

total. ~ yeah, but the yeah right,

but ~ right.

I mean the Giants punted once.

It was a really

good punt. And then I think they only
actually punted once,

I believe.

Right.

And ~ I just thought that every single
special teams play

was like super well coached.

I mean nobody was out of position.

You never thought they were gonna run back
and like crank out a ninety yard return.

when

Mm-hmm.

they you you didn't think that you were
gonna fumble the ball catching it.

the kicker looked really good.

~ I you go down the list it looked like a
ver even they had I really noticed this,

one of the guys on the special teams also
was Javon Holland.

He played specials? Whoa.

He played specials too, so it reminded me
of the 80s,

I didn't notice that, yeah.

you know. It I don't know if you remember
this,

but the 80s Giants, ~ you know,

Lawrence Taylor and Carl Banks were
usually on the special teams.

They said they had starting level players
because they really valued

special team ~ play. And obviously,

the special team play we've gotten accompl
accustomed to has been

Horrendous. You're just hoping.

my God. I just hope they don't return it
for touchdown.

I hope the I hope the punter doesn't shank
it 15 yards,

you know? And now you got a like a really
good.

Or or or kick it or kick it

to to the best punt returner in the league
with ~ thirty seconds left

and when he's supposed to kick it out of
bounds and it leads

to the winning touchdown against the
Eagles.

No, th this is like a professional You
know a Debo

~ d yeah. But that was actually

by the way, d you know what? This is super
interesting though.

A Debo last night, if you w if you can
like see the game again,

I was really surprised, but he's actually
the what do you call him?

The gunner, the the person that's yeah,

Yeah. First guy got

he's the gunner on the

yeah. What about him? Yeah.

That's his job now. He

he's like a forty five million dollar
gunner.

Well, whatever. If he's a good gunner,

at least it's not a total waste.

I you know

Yeah, no I don't

know why this w you know, that's this
general manager you be you know,

they they've had some terrible free
agents.

But they this year they got th they got a
lot of their free agents from ~ Baltimore.

I know, and they're good. And they've had
some

And they're really good.

you know, talk about special teams.

Historically, I mean this trans this goes
beyond ~ the recent

~ the recent years in the desert.

The incident I was talking about when ~
what's his name?

Jackson returned the ~ the pun that was
when Coughlin was coaching.

And we didn't have good special teams then
either.

No, they weren't that not great either.

But they w I I actually thought I mean
it's a very small sample size,

obviously. I thought last night was some
of the best special team play

I'd ever seen in a giant game.

Well we'll we'll keep an eye yeah.

I trusted them everybody.

We'll just watch this, you know,

over the next several games and see,

you know, if if if, you know, it stays at
at a level like this.

It's probably not gonna be perfect,

right? But ~ it's it's just an exciting
thing to think about

and to see the possibilities of special
teams,

of the offensive line, of the receiving
core,

of the quarterback, of the running backs.

It's

But you know my favorite is Patrick
Ricard.

I'm sorry. I love

I think they probably

felt that way in Baltimore too.

They probably were very sad to Well,

Why did they let him go? Why did they let
him go?

you know, I

think you you I think okay, I only could
speculate that team looks like they know

what they're doing. They're already very
good

Mm-hmm.

even without Harbaugh. I would

Right.

speculate I would speculate that some of
it is age

and that they're just trying to they're
gonna just kinda move on to something
else.

They're not gonna depend on him.

Right.

But but

He made s he makes sense for the Giants
who are doing a reboot here.

He probably won't be in football three
years from now.

Yeah, I think he's like thirty two or
something,

you know, he's not a young guy.

Yeah.

he's not young and he's I can't believe
he's he weighs three hundred pounds.

I mean he looks big, but that big?

He's really like

Yeah, well he is.

I you know, and it's exciting too I I
don't know why.

Well he's right he's right

there. He's right he's right over my
shoulder.

He's he's very I can tell you,

Yeah, I know. That's why I chose that

he's sitting he's

sitting on my shoulder. He's v he is every
bit as heavy as he looks.

He's sitting right now on my shoulder.

~

No

note to the audience. Harinam had two
pictures that he was going to

use as his background. And I chose that.

He asked me which one he should and I
chose that one because Patrick Ricard

is in it. I look at Patrick Ricard on this
team the way I look at Josh Hart

on the Knicks. I mean, it's it's just the
guy that for me brings

the whole thing together. ~ anyway,

I just wanted to say, you know,

like

We haven't had a fullback, a real
fullback,

great fullback since Maurice Carthon.

Means

no, Henry Hinoski.

Well but he was he was you know he was a
full back.

Yeah, but they won a Super Bowl with they
won a Super Bowl with him.

Yeah, but still.

And then

and then I think in two thousand and seven
didn't they win with this guy Finney?

That

Yeah.

a guy

but he w he started the whole year though.

He was a regular

But they didn't

you they didn't use fullbacks the way
Parcells used Carthon

and ~ and Harbise.

Well, Carthon, yeah, he very rarely
carried the

Yeah. Well I mean I know,

He wasn't that big

but

either. He's you know, he wasn't big like
these guys,

He was quite a blocker.

maybe he was two forty wasn't like three
hundred and twenty pounds.

You imagine that

Well yeah.

guy running straight at you and you're
like ~ you're like the who's the

guy they had last year, Flot? This guy
like Flot,

he's like 170 pounds dripping wet,

Hundred and thirty eight pounds,

yeah.

and there's a 320 pound guy running right
at him,

and he are you kidding? He's just gonna
run out of the way.

I just you know, it's just ex exciting,

I guess

I don't particularly, you know,

like lean on the wisdom

of Chris ~ whatever.

The commenter on Sunday night football,

Collinsworth. I don't, you know,

lean on his wisdom very much. He was
calling him Pancake Pat,

and that made a lot of sense to me.

Anyway.

Well, there was a running pla okay,

th I I don't remember when in the game I
saw,

but it was like a a shot from behind the
end zone,

but a close up, but you can kinda

Yeah. Yeah.

see them opening the holes much better
than like

Right.

at the when you're on the sideline.

And they had and you knew it just from the
formation,

and there was nothing the other team could
do about it.

They had okay, so they had their five
offensive linemen who I think

for the most part

played a really good game. Okay.

So there's there's five of those,

right? Including this guy they drafted
who's the biggest guy on the line.

So he's on the he's on the okay,

so he's on the right side of the line,

okay, and the tackle what's his name?

Yuminora, the guy to his the tackle,

he he he played a good game.

Or well ~ Iluminor

Illuminor.

And

Lumino, I okay. So he I think he's a
better pass blocker though,

because he's not like a like a mauler.

But okay, they got five large human beings
on the line,

okay? And they're g and you can see from
the formation they're gonna

run to the right. Okay. So okay,

so there's eleven guys on the side of
their their field,

okay? Okay, let's say there's ten guys not
including the quarterback,

right? So it's ten it's ten guys not
including the quarterback.

So they've got of the ten guys

They got the five offensive linemen.

They got Patrick Ricard. They've got ~
what's his name?

Chris Manhurts, right? They've got ~ this
guy Fields,

right, on the field. They got likely,

and the running back is Scatabo.

So though they the only guy who wasn't
like a really big human being

for his position.

Was was neighbors. But they had a count,

they had a count for him, so they're gonna
cover him.

So they got these other eight players.

So the only out of 11 players,

okay, you got you got the quarterback and
you got neighbors,

and the other nine players are five
offensive linemen,

a 320-pound fullback, right,

right, a a very large tight end who's
really like the size of another tackle

or guard.

Okay. And you got a running back who's
crazy who runs into telephone polls.

Okay. All right. And you've got yeah,

Runs over them actually.

and you've got a wide res you've got a
wide receiver in fields who's

an excellent blocker, and

I know.

really is really could be like a receiving
tight end,

actually. And and and you've got also
likely who's a very good blocker.

And so

They ran that ball right between,

they ran that ball like right off the hip
of the tackle.

And it just looked like a flying wedge
coming through there.

And and they're not breaking it for 10 or
15 yards,

but it's almost like ~ it's almost like an
automatic four or five yards.

It's almost like unstoppable for four or
five yards.

And it's gonna be interesting if other
teams try to copy them or

how they're gonna prepare for them.

But

We've gotten so used to watching their
offensive line

the last 10 years get pushed backwards.

Uh-huh.

And then like when they I feel bad.

If they had, can you imagine? And I'm
going back,

okay. So I'm jumping all over the place.

I'm jumping back to 20818.

You are.

I'm gonna drop okay. I'm gonna drop back
to 2018.

Okay. I am not necessarily defending him.

All right. Okay. But I think this is what
the last general manager actually

had in mind is that

Right.

he's going to have this great running
back,

and he had the maybe misplaced
self-confidence that he

was going to find the hogmollies,

that as he called them, and he

Right. That's what he called them.

was gonna get the coach that was gonna be
able to coach them up.

But what happened was ~

All of the free agents, all the draft
picks they had did not work

out and arguably they weren't coached up.

But can you but

Well actually

can you imagine the team they have now and
they had the two thousand

and eighteen Barkley? Are you kidding?

Yeah, no, I I I I actually was thinking
about that recently.

But you know, I think I think you gotta
give a little credit.

He did draft Ur Ern Will Hernandez in the
second round,

who was decent here and has had a really
good career,

you know, with the Cardinals. So

But I don't think he's

still as good as they or what they thought
he was gonna

Well yeah, but you know that's

You know, he he yeah,

I but the thing is is that okay,

the reason I'm kind of bringing his name
back into it is that

at least he had a vision of how he wanted
the team to be,

Right.

but but it didn't work out. I I think
partly because

of very poor drafting. other than some
very high level

players on the first round, ~ a bad

free agency and probably more than
anything poor coaching.

And

There you go.

and so he had a vision but it never
actually came into being.

~

I was waiting

for I was waiting for the poor coaching
because as I said,

Hernandez had a good career, you know,

a very good career with the Cardinals.

Bobby Hart, who was a joke here.

best right tackle in football.

Yeah,

he was a joke here, has has had a I don't
know if he's is he still playing?

I know it's unbelievable how

much money the guy's probably the pr guys
probably has two hundred million dollars,

right? Over over it's unbla he's still
playing.

Yeah, I mean he he is

He's still it's unbelievable.

he still with Cincinnati?

He's somewhere. I think he's gonna play
till he's like fifty years old.

I

He

st he started for Cincinnati for several
years and was highly thought.

I mean he wasn't at all pro or anything,

but he was highly thought of. So some of
the guys that ~ that Gettleman drafted,

yeah, they sucked. A bunch of the the free
agency signed.

Let's see. Who was the guy?

Kenny Galladay Kenny Galladay.

Yeah, Galladay was the one. ~

That was the worst.

jeez. But there was a a ~

A guard he signed who was supposed to be
so good omen I I'm s

yeah, it was a

big he didn't even last like four games.

I know, I know. So, you know, he didn't do
well with free agency.

He didn't do he didn't do I th I would say
he did poorly in drafting,

not terribly. It could have been better if
there'd been good co if there'd been good

coaching.

Well the thing is is that what you're
seeing now is that the current coach,

which we haven't seen this, aside from the
drafting all this,

is that he's got a vision of what type of
team he wants to put together and

Right.

every move they've made makes a lot of
sense.

You know,

Mm-hmm.

they you know, and and you look at these
three players he got from Baltimore,

even the

Punter. People are going, I can't believe
you're paying that much for a punter.

Right.

Yeah, well, the guy's gonna win some games
for them.

Yeah.

You know, and then so they they have like
a very you could see that they they

have a vision and plus he did an
interesting thing.

He he got like okay,

so he has an offensive coordinator,

okay, who was getting like very
criticized.

But you can see that he wasn't lying,

that he's got these three ex head coaches.

Okay, but Roman wasn't I I don't think a
head.

Maybe he was. But he had three very high
level coaches,

and he's basically letting them kind of
combine their ideas,

and you're thinking, that's not gonna
work,

but I thought that was very much on
display.

It was a very, very good game plan.

Very good game plan. They had some
incredible running things that I've never
seen

before. But

Mm-hmm.

they also got receivers open, so they've
got a lot of things.

They've got a lot of moving parts there.

I thought it was very interesting.

I think the the the pre the ple the pre
play motion that

was hard for me to get out ~ was really
exceptional too and I'm just thinking
about

this one play I'm coming back to Patrick
Ricard where it looked as

if they were all going right and Ricard
and Scatabo went left.

Yes. That was the for the touchdown.

Ricard Ricard

That was for the touchdown.

took out the first guy.

No, I I'm thinking about a different play.

This is r yeah.

really, really.

Ricard took out the first guy.

Scannabow, you know, goes through the
hole,

only gets about three or four yards,

but you know, at there is another blocker
ahead of him,

but you know, that time the Cowboys made a
good play and,

you know, slowed the you know,

s short made the gain shorter than maybe
it otherwise would have been.

But it's just the way it looked,

you know.

Just to see that that first block knock a
guy out.

And I just don't remember that happening a
lot.

Knocking a guy out

Yeah, no. And

to and creating the hole. So

You know what?

My favorite play was the touchdown.

And it was yeah,

The scatterboo touchdown? Or which one?

yeah. No, but he'll know he only ran in
one.

There there were four of them.

~ Yeah.

And

that one is yeah, it was

and and that was an i couldn't believe it.

You know, if you ever go on YouTube,

it's really interesting. If if you got a
little time sometime,

you want to see something interesting,

you go back to YouTube and they have like

~ excuse me. Excuse me, audience.

the highlight films of

of of games from like the forties

huh.

in black and white. And I I I forgot which
year it was.

It was like I think the nine I think it
was like the nineteen forty seven

or forty eight championship. The Giants
were playing somebody and w

it was on YouTube and they had a lot a lot
of the game on.

Mm-hmm.

And I was so fa in the polar grounds
obviously.

And I was so fascinated watching this on
YouTube.

I suggest it to anybody who happens to be
listening to us,

because if you want to watch that,

you'll see how football was played in the
forties.

And the the the football looked like a
rugby ball or like a small watermelon.

And so ~

Yeah.

it's amazing they completed any passes
because you could see that that that that

sucker was hard to throw. It was like it
was more like it was fatter in the middle.

Right. So it it wasn't like skinnier.

it w it it

Right.

almost had a different shape. And so it
the the the quarterbacks,

it wasn't that I think they were bad,

I just think that it was hard to throw
that ball accurately,

you know, and hard to catch it.

And so it was a lot of incomplete passes,

and you could see that because I think
largely because of the shape of the ball,

you really had to run the ball.

I mean, you couldn't depend on winning a
game actually throwing that thing.

And and so running, it was all about
running and and they were lighter.

I mean the big players back then were
probably 160 pounds.

They they were much smaller human beings.

But ~ well and they didn't have all these
big pads,

you know. So the whole thing had to do
with like blocking angles

and and blocking schemes. And

I was amazed how complicated those plays
were.

They they were the they were designed with
misdirection and guys going there.

It was really interesting. If you ever
have a chance to watch it,

it it it was brilliant. And you know,

watching the game with the the giant
cowboy game and that touchdown,

for instance, it looked like one of these
things from the 40s,

that it was just incredibly intricately

developed with misdirection and and and
you could see that he

he basically walked into the end zone.

I I don't think

Right.

half the Cowboys even knew what was going
on until the editor was in the end zone.

So it I just I love that. I I th that was
a ma that's probably the whole Greg Roman

run what they call him. He has a
particular job,

the the to develop

Yeah, he's the run game coordinator.

the r run game coordinator. But you think
why would you need a

rum run game coordinator? But that's why.

Because it's on a whole nother level.

Well,

I see, I think I think the thing that
people have misunderstood

is is when someone like Harbaugh puts
these three guys together,

that there's necessarily gonna be ego
tripping.

But I think, you know, before Harbaugh did
it,

he thought through it and he thought he
talked to these guys.

And ~ you know, each one of them has been
humbled by the game,

right?

So they have another chance to kind of,

you know, do something great, you know,

working together. And I ~ that's my guess.

I mean, as an old union guy, that's the
way I look at it.

~ but ~ you know, apparently they just
they they mesh beautifully

and the offense showed it. It really did.

So

I mean

I I'm very I'm very excited. I just I I
guess

Yeah.

~ it is just cathartic for me.

You know, we love our team and ~ I
remember being over your ho actually

I remember being over your house just last
year and we were watching ~

I guess it was a thir was it a Thursday
night game with the Cowboys?

And

~

and and it was early in the season.

No, it wasn't last year. It was it was two
years.

I think this was near the end of the
Daniel Jones.

I now remember it was two years ago.

Neighbors was a rookie.

Right.

And this was near the end of the Daniel
Jones run.

And

Yeah.

they could have won that game.

In fact, Neighbors kind of dropped a pass
late in the game near the side right

Right, I remember right at the end of the
game.

Yeah.

at the end of the game and he if he
catches that maybe may but I you don't
have

any confidence they're actually gonna win
it.

But they would have had a

Fighter's chance. And we watched that game
and they they had so many chances.

And then there was early in the game,

he was wide open and then he underthrew
him and he caught it,

but it was should have been a touchdown.

It just it's just a n

Right. Right.

just watching the game we watching these
games.

And then I also we watched last year I
remember watching with you the Denver
game.

And what what can you even say?

I I I n I didn't want to bring that one
up.

What can

what can you even say? You know,

Well what you can

it's

say is that that was that year.

That was last year. If it had been this
year,

that never would have happened.

Never would first of all, we wouldn't have
gotten that kind of a lead because we'd

have been running the ball and ball
control.

You saw what ~ you saw what the the ~
Chiefs did to

the Denver defense yesterday.

~ can he ~

Yeah, that was that

was day they totally took them to school.

Yeah, that's ~ well d you know what?

It's the first game of the season and ~

Kenny Walker,

you know, Kenny Walker ~ showed why he was
the Super Bowl MVP.

Yeah, he was good. He was good.

It really was incredible.

Yeah, very, very good. Yeah. And ~ the
Giants really don't have that kind

of running back right now. But they

Nope.

will. I mean he's gonna it's interesting.

I think for now, you know, he's he's
liking the style of play that Scadable

has. But I I actually think I like

Well, I am too. I am too.

him too, but you know what? I actually
think that I think this guy Najee Harris

is gonna land up being their star.

Well, it'll be interesting to see once
they activate

He's a much bigger

he's much bigger guy. And he he's a very
physical player.

Yeah, he's the kind of guy they want.

Right. Well, c ~ not that not

that you'd ever call Scatagle a finesse
player,

right?

But you know what? For what they have
right now,

~ he's he's very entertaining and ~ I you
don't see a guy like

~ I like him.

this playing for that long. I mean,

you know, I think you always hear about
the NFL executives saying he he'll

he won't last three years in the league,

but you can see why they say it.

He playing

Yeah.

like a crazy person and and it's a very
dangerous sport.

But

you know, you you can't underestimate the
fact that

he he actually isn't just running straight
ahead.

He he can move, he can shift and and cut.

And as a matter of fact, I thought one of
his best runs was the one where

he threw the ball up to himself at the end
and and somehow,

you know, saved his fumble. But he made a

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

c he made a couple of really good moves on
that plate.

Yeah, I know, he's an in well,

you saw him play at Arizona State.

So did I. Yeah, he was very entertaining
player.

Yeah, but you know, that's a little
different.

Hey, he he was a very entertaining player
in college.

I was happy to see the Giants get him.

I I wasn't sure he was gonna be like a
starting caliber player,

but it but he has an he's he's gonna be
part of the story of hopefully this being

an ascending team.

~ we which which reminds me, you know,

I I don't want to forget I mean this

There's so many pot I mean it's it's so
rare because usually we're pissed

off and we have a laundry list of things
that we're angry about.

And it's

Yeah.

it's it's really unusual to have like not
enough time to talk about

all the good things that they did.

They did all the po all the things you
could look forward to.

Right.

I

think I think it's the p all the players
they drafted looked really,

really good.
