Speaker 3:Welcome back to Excuse My Grandma. It's Kim and my cohost. Grandma Gail. You guys have been loving us outside of the studio a little bit more. We did one walking and talking on the lake.
Speaker 3:We did one in the hair salon. Today, we're gonna do what we do best, which is pick out outfits in the closet and style each other. And so if you are watching, which you should be on YouTube or seeing our clips on social media or watching on Spotify or you're just listening, we are going to talk all about Valentine's Day today and And what we're wearing and where we're going. Yes. All the things.
Speaker 3:Okay. So we're in grandma's closet first. Correct. And we're going to pick out your outfit. What are you doing with Poppy?
Speaker 4:Well, I'm go we're going to a very nice event at our country club, and they're gonna have a little bit of entertainment because, you know, the people who are going to this thing by 10:00, their Valentine's Day evening is over. Over. Yeah. So I think everything is gonna be compressed into two hours. I don't think we're gonna have dancing, but maybe they even have some music
Speaker 3:or This is a big thing.
Speaker 4:Oh, yeah. It's a it's a it's a nice night on Valentine's Day there, and they have all the food is gonna be shaped in hearts. You know, they're gonna carry it, I'm sure, to the extreme.
Speaker 3:So how do you feel about being with a big group on Valentine's Day versus a one on one situation?
Speaker 4:I think it's fine. You know what? We're together all the time. So this is it's festive. And we don't need to have an we don't need alone time.
Speaker 4:We spend a lot of alone time together.
Speaker 3:Also, it's your sixty third Not
Speaker 4:the third, yes. Oh, yeah. It will be the sixty third. Okay. No.
Speaker 4:Isn't next year the sixty third? This is the sixty second.
Speaker 3:It's your sixty second Valentine's Day together?
Speaker 4:Yeah. Oh, okay. Yeah.
Speaker 3:So I'm sure some of those you've done alone before, so it's okay to do it with a group.
Speaker 4:Yeah, but even when we first got married, we used to go with a couple. Couples used to we used to divide, change off houses, and we would have caviar and
Speaker 3:salmon Oh, and that's nice. Like New Year's or something.
Speaker 4:Yeah, we did our with a couple of best friends, and we always celebrated together. Of course, they're all divorced now, so we're the only survivors.
Speaker 3:Do you suggest people do a group Valentine's Day like that? I think
Speaker 4:after the first couple, it doesn't really matter. It's just an it's just a night. It's a commercial holiday. You know what? You should be in love every night and do things for each other every night.
Speaker 4:But, it's Okay. The romantic grandma, But it's nice. But it's very nice. Okay. So what are you thinking of wearing to that?
Speaker 4:Well, it's warm now. It's getting warmer in Florida. We had a little bit of a frost. But then by the time this is going to be seen, it's going to be close to 80. So I can go back to wearing a pretty little dress, maybe a sleeveless dress
Speaker 3:Okay.
Speaker 4:And maybe either in red because it's Valentine's Day. Alright. I'll give you my choices. I had two choices I was thinking of. Oh, if I can get it out of the closet.
Speaker 4:A little red dress with the patent leather on it.
Speaker 3:There are some people in Europe who watch us.
Speaker 4:Oh, so this comes from Pierre Cordin. It's a little boutique in Paris, and he used to be very famous. He's long gone, so somebody else has taken over the design, and I think they do a great job, and I love them. They're simple. They're usually a line, which is perfect for me.
Speaker 3:I think the audience who watches, excuse my grandma, has probably seen you wear
Speaker 4:Well, I've worn all of them. Yeah. This this is the newer one. Same designer. Same designer.
Speaker 3:But there's no red. You have to wear the other one.
Speaker 4:I have to wear the red one.
Speaker 3:I think so.
Speaker 4:I don't have anything else in red, but I thought the black would be alright. It's got sort of pink and green. No. Alright. The red for Valentine's Day?
Speaker 4:Okay.
Speaker 3:Should we accessorize it?
Speaker 4:Yeah. Well, I'm just gonna wear black shoes Mhmm. And a black bag. I'm not gonna do very much with it, Kim. Then you're gonna wear my choice with black shoes and a
Speaker 3:little black bag. Any black which black shoes do you think?
Speaker 4:Whatever is low heeled. That's for sure.
Speaker 3:Grandma and I, even though we're both short, you guys know we both, like, like only wearing really short kitten heels. I hate a high heel.
Speaker 4:This is just a plain little simple Perfect. Black silk pump. Yeah. And I'll wear a black little bag. It's just fine.
Speaker 4:You know what? I have to be comfortable.
Speaker 3:Every time Valentine's Day rolls around, I remember some of your old rules we did for Valentine's Day. Right. So our rule number 16 was
Speaker 4:That's a long time ago, Kim.
Speaker 3:A long time ago. If you weren't wowed last night on Valentine's Day, you have three hundred sixty four days to go find a new Valentine. Do we stick by that? Yeah. Yeah.
Speaker 3:I but you know what? It's one day.
Speaker 4:It's one day. And I think the wow factor is just having a good time together and having having a nice drink and having a lovely dinner. And if you exchange gifts, don't go crazy, just have something that both of you know they're gonna like.
Speaker 3:But I also feel like they should definitely put effort in because it's a special night. So like A little roses.
Speaker 4:Roses are nice. Yeah. Chocolates are nice. Mhmm.
Speaker 3:And then you had rule number 63, which is Valentine's Day is a hallmark holiday. Don't expect much and you won't be disappointed.
Speaker 4:Well, that's very important. Unless somebody's a gift giver. I mean, my husband used to always buy me some piece of jewelry for Valentine's Day, so I had a million different things and I always thought it was lovely and I used to buy him this sweater. Somehow I bought a lot of sweaters and a lot of belts. At this point, we don't need any of those things, so we're just happy to have the dinner.
Speaker 3:In Palm Beach, is it as hard to get into restaurants
Speaker 4:I think it's for Valentine's very difficult.
Speaker 3:It's so hard in New York too.
Speaker 4:It's very difficult. It's hardier now to get into a restaurant no matter what That's day true. It And also they charge more.
Speaker 3:Yeah. There's always a prefix, whatever.
Speaker 4:Exactly. Because they wanna, you know, get you in on four courses, which you really don't need. Mhmm. But that's where they make the money. So, no, I think it's very it's a very hard night to get a reservation.
Speaker 3:Yeah.
Speaker 4:And a lot of times people are now going either to a country club. I used to love to go to the movies on Valentine's Day. It was fun. We'd have a quick dinner, we'd go to a movie, a love story. But there are no movies here anymore, so we can't do that.
Speaker 3:I think a really cute idea if you're not going to a reservation and you're gonna stay in is to do like game night. Like I saw a couple online, they were painting each other and having wine or they were playing like sushi, but checkers. Very cute. That is cute. Like stuff like that.
Speaker 3:You can be creative.
Speaker 4:Okay.
Speaker 3:I think
Speaker 4:there are lots of ideas out there.
Speaker 3:Speaking of, I am going back to New York City for Valentine's Right. So I'm leaving here in a few days and Zach planned something.
Speaker 4:Okay.
Speaker 3:And he said, do you wanna know? No. And I said, No, I think I wanna be surprised.
Speaker 4:Right, I agree.
Speaker 3:Here's the issue. What kind of outfit am I gonna pick out if I don't know
Speaker 4:where we're going? Wherever you're gonna go, you can wear the same outfit. It's not gonna matter. You're not going in a long formal dress no matter where.
Speaker 3:Okay. So let's go into my closet and we can see what we got in there and continue our conversation. Okay. Okay. Now we're gonna go into my closet.
Speaker 3:I love that Zach made a plan. I feel like there's romance in logistics sometimes. Okay. And like, I like making reservations and stuff, so sometimes I make a lot of the plans. But I feel like there's also a really good feeling when someone texts you and they're like, this is the plan.
Speaker 3:Be there at eight.
Speaker 4:It's great. I think it's very romantic.
Speaker 3:Yeah. So I don't know what vibe I want to be. Should I be cute? Should I be classy? Should I be sexy?
Speaker 3:It's Valentines.
Speaker 4:Well, think you should be sexy. I think you have to wear a dark color. You're in New York. True. So whatever outfit you're gonna pick up, you're gonna have to take back in your wheelie.
Speaker 3:Yeah. I have a lot more options there In city.
Speaker 4:So you could always pick something out here and then change your mind when you get back to your apartment.
Speaker 3:Okay. So let's see what But I'm gonna need your help. So I feel like we should pick it out here so
Speaker 4:I can pick
Speaker 3:it back.
Speaker 4:You get the idea. Okay.
Speaker 3:You can get the idea. Let's go in. Okay. Going through some of the options here. I feel like I was thinking something like this, which is just a black silky dress.
Speaker 4:And sexy. I love it.
Speaker 3:I wore it to a rehearsal dinner, for my friend's wedding. And people were commenting and they were like, it kinda looks like sleepwear. So I'm like, is this what the cool girls wear or is this like sort of?
Speaker 4:No. It's very, very cool. They don't get high fashion. But you're gonna have to wear a jacket over this, which you have in New York.
Speaker 3:Yeah. Yeah.
Speaker 4:Like a little shrug or something.
Speaker 3:I have like a fur black. Exactly. Kind of shrug.
Speaker 4:So this is really, really pretty.
Speaker 3:But then I'm not wearing any pink or red. Do you have anything I could borrow?
Speaker 4:Well, you could wear red shoes, but I don't know if I even like red shoes with this.
Speaker 3:Oh, really?
Speaker 4:Yeah. Think that would look sort of I don't know. Oh, well, like the devil wears Prada.
Speaker 3:Why did they wear
Speaker 4:black They put red shoes on immediately on everything. Yes.
Speaker 3:Oh I don't know. I think so. So should I try this on with red shoes to make sure?
Speaker 4:I don't think it's going to go well. I think you're better off with the black shoes.
Speaker 3:What about a red bag? Still bad?
Speaker 4:Like these two choices. Don't think either will go with red shoes.
Speaker 3:So you can't wear black and brown?
Speaker 4:Unless you had the ones from The Wizard of Oz, the red sequin.
Speaker 3:What's the difference?
Speaker 4:All right. Try it with the red shoes. I I just this definitely won't
Speaker 3:go with the red shoes. Agree. Let me try that other one with the red shoes or red bag. You said you have in your closet, right? Okay.
Speaker 3:Yes. So I can try it. Yes. And see if that's okay.
Speaker 4:Okay.
Speaker 3:I feel like Zach always says I look nice and compliments me on my outfits, but I also feel like I put a lot of effort in and that's why.
Speaker 4:You certainly do. You certainly do. A lot of conversation out of these efforts.
Speaker 3:Yeah. Okay. Let me try this on. Okay.
Speaker 4:No. It's not bad. It's adorable. Nice. It's nice.
Speaker 4:What's bad about it? No. I don't think that's bad at all. It could be a touch of red for Valentine's Day. And this bag, you'd have to just hold like this, like a clutch.
Speaker 4:I was just gonna say just red.
Speaker 3:Maybe just a black bag. Yeah. So we just have the pop of red in the shoe. Exactly. So we think this looks okay?
Speaker 4:I think it looks beautiful. And I like the pop of red in the shoe. I think it looks really cute.
Speaker 3:Okay. Maybe there's, like, more ways to accessorize it also with jewelry when I go back to New
Speaker 4:York. Wear the earrings.
Speaker 3:Do you think it's more important to feel, like, comfortable or, like, sexy on a date?
Speaker 4:It depends where you're going. If you're going to a casual little restaurant, this is a bit much. Then you can put on just a pair of black pants and a red sweater.
Speaker 3:I mean, this is pretty comfortable, but I'm like, could I go even more uncomfortable? Okay. And here's the other thing. I have not thought of a gift yet, and I feel like I should give Zach a little gift.
Speaker 4:Okay. So what he's he's coming back to New York. Is there something that you would like to get him for when he returns? Because he's coming back in cold weather. He's not used to it.
Speaker 3:Maybe you need to get him a hat. Gave him a scarf for Hanukkah or maybe it was Valentine's last year and he did not use it but he was been in LA.
Speaker 4:He's been in LA. Now he's coming back to the cold It's
Speaker 3:too similar to that Well
Speaker 4:then I don't know what. He likes gadgets so you might have to look and see.
Speaker 3:Yeah. But he knows more about the gadgets than me.
Speaker 4:Alright. Then you have a problem, Kim. I have chocolate heart.
Speaker 3:No. That's so boring. Like, would you have any tips for people of how to think of Valentine's Day gifts?
Speaker 4:No. I just think he should go along with what their hobbies are. And if he likes a particular thing doesn't he like to play golf? Isn't he beginning to learn golf? He's learning.
Speaker 4:Yeah. So get him a great golf shirt
Speaker 3:a couple. I feel like there's some if you do that, you also have to do something a little sentimental for for Valentine's Day. Like, aren't you gonna get Poppy a card or something? Yes.
Speaker 4:Of course. You get a card.
Speaker 3:So write a nice card. Get a big card
Speaker 4:and get him some golf balls.
Speaker 3:I don't know if I'm thrilled about that. I'll keep thinking. I'll let you guys know. A lot of people were also writing in and asking what they should do with someone who they've only been dating for like two or three months.
Speaker 4:Well, they don't have to do anything. But if the gentleman asks them out for Valentine's Day, then just go and have a nice dinner. You don't have to buy anybody a gift, get them a funny card. That's unnecessary. Or a mug.
Speaker 4:Coffee mugs are always funny. You have loads of signs on it and just buy something that would be good for that person.
Speaker 3:What if you're in a situation shift? Do you remember what that is? The next step up? No. It's like you're not exclusive yet.
Speaker 4:It's I wouldn't get him a thing.
Speaker 3:Don't go out on Valentine's Day.
Speaker 4:I didn't go out on Valentine's Day. Why can't you go out with him? But don't don't make it more than just a a nice evening together.
Speaker 3:Should you send him or her a text saying happy Valentine's Day?
Speaker 4:Not if he hasn't asked you out.
Speaker 3:If you're not going out together that day don't text happy Valentine. I agree it's too much when it's like not that emotional.
Speaker 4:It's ridiculous.
Speaker 3:Grandma do you have advice for people who are single this Valentine's Day?
Speaker 4:You know what? If you're single and not going out with anybody, call up a friend. See if they wanna have dinner together. Otherwise, treat yourself, order in a great dinner from the one of your favorite places, and watch something streaming on your TV. Don't make it more than it is.
Speaker 4:This is a commercial holiday. This is not a big deal. It's all about selling cards and selling all the gifts that they all do around this time of the year. So don't get too upset about it. Just go out and enjoy yourself and with a friend.
Speaker 4:That's my best advice.
Speaker 3:When I was single on Valentine's Day, which I was for a while, I went out with you guys and mom and dad. I did a Galentine's dinner.
Speaker 4:I don't think you should make it more than it is. You you build it up in your mind and it's always a let down. So don't make it a big deal. It really isn't.
Speaker 3:Or if you are in a relationship, like, it's an extra fun thing that you can spend time together and really put effort into the date.
Speaker 4:And don't put pressure on each other. It's so unnecessary.
Speaker 3:Okay. I'm excited. I'll let you know how it goes.

Speaker 3:I'll let you know if I definitely go with this outfit. I might have to take your shoes that I borrowed back with me.
