What is ...But God?

A weekday morning devotional series written by Aaron Marcarelli and hosted by Chad McBeam

“Then Hannah prayed and said, “My heart exults in the Lord; My horn is exalted in the Lord, My mouth speaks boldly against my enemies, Because I rejoice in Your salvation. There is no one holy like the Lord, Indeed, there is no one besides You, Nor is there any rock like our God.”
1 Samuel 2:1-2 NASB1995

Hannah is one of the most faithful people of the Bible. For years and years she was barren and yet she was faithful to God. She was provoked and chastised by the other women around her and yet she remained faithful to God. She prayed to God that if she were granted a son she would dedicate his life to the service of God. Here is what she prayed, when God granted her prayers. “Oh, my Lord! As your soul lives, my Lord, I am the woman who stood here beside you, praying to the Lord. For this boy I prayed, and the Lord has given me my petition which I asked of Him. So I have also dedicated him to the Lord; as long as he lives he is dedicated to the Lord.”
1 Samuel 1:26-28
How often have people made promises to God in depths of their petitioning, pleading prayers. How often have they forgotten those prayers? They are too many to count. However, for those who make promises to God and follow through on those promises when He answers their prayers. God does amazing things through them for Generations.
I’m sure y’all know Hannah is the mother of Samuel one of the greatest prophets in the Bible. God speaks to Samuel and through Samuel. He anoints the first two kings of Israel.
Similar promises were made to God by St. Francis of Assisi, Martin Luther and St. Ignatius of Loyola. They remembered their promises and God used these men to change the world.
Job choses to serve God no matter his circumstances. He was told by his friends is “to curse God and die.” He does not listen and serves God through the strife and difficulties of his horrible circumstances. God blessed Job exponentially for his great faith.
Yes God blesses those who remember their promises to Him.
But God has already fulfilled His promises to us. He has given us forgiveness of sins and eternal life with Him.
Therefore, we should seek to serve Him always because He is faithful and just and we should follow His ways and dedicate our lives to Him no matter the circumstances.
Lord thank you for your promises and thank you for helping us remember our promises. Thank you for blessing us. Help us to love and serve you always. Help us to seek you and love you with all our heart, soul, mind and strength. We pray these things in Jesus Name Amen…
Shalom, Blessings and Press In and Press On!
