Photo Breakdown

Dive into the heart of the photography community with Scott Wyden Kivowitz as he discusses the unparalleled value of in-person events for photographers. Whether you're looking to build long-lasting relationships or learn new skills, this episode is a must-listen!

Scott sheds light on the importance of in-person events for photographers. As trade show season kicks off, he explores how these gatherings provide unique opportunities for networking, learning, and community-building that virtual events can’t always match. From casual conversations to deep networking opportunities, Scott explains why you should consider attending events like Imaging USA, WPPI, and ShutterFest.

"You can meet people while standing in line for breakfast or lunch or dinner. And you could learn things that you may not have ever learned in a classroom environment at these events."

Scott Wyden Kivowitz [00:00:00]:
Hello, my friends. So I'm here today because I want to talk about community again. I've talked about it before. We're all in virtual communities of all types whether it's a Facebook group, a Discord, a Slack, a WhatsApp group, just a regular text thread with, you know, Apple messages or whatever it might be. Some big groups, some small groups with just our friends, some medium sized groups, all shapes, sizes, colors all that fun stuff and unlike communities are fantastic. But today I want to talk about in person communities because here in the United States we are in the heart of trade show season at the day I'm recording this and publishing this actually is 2 days before Imaging USA starts 2025 in Dallas Texas. And then in about a month is WPPI. And then about a month after that is ShutterFest.

Scott Wyden Kivowitz [00:01:01]:
And before, after, in between, there's all sorts of other events. You also have events all around the world. You have way up north. You have Canada photo summit. You have ARC. You have lens in light. You have so many different events that are happening everywhere, and they're all in person. Yes.

Scott Wyden Kivowitz [00:01:18]:
There are virtual events happening too, which I do recommend attending, but in person events have a special place in many photographers hearts and minds and they're fantastic for things like building more of a community around you, or you're joining a community that you didn't know existed before. Right? For finding relationships whether you're they're your potentially your new best friends or potentially a life partner. This this has happened. Or just networking in general. Right? You can meet people while standing in line for breakfast or lunch or dinner. And you could learn things that you may not have ever learned in a classroom environment at these events. In fact, sometimes you learn the most not in the classroom environments. You learn the most just from the water cooler, so to speak, conversations that happened around the event throughout the event.

Scott Wyden Kivowitz [00:02:25]:
So I want to encourage you to get on a plane, get on a train, get on a bus, drive, whatever you have to do to get to in person events this year in 2025. Get to in person events. Join the photo walks, join the masterminds, join the classrooms, Go grab coffee with people that you meet and have conversations with and connect with, and spill your creative mind and share your advice and then listen to their advice. And that is what will truly change the game for your life, for your business, and so on. So consider that. Consider going to in person events. There are so many happening. So many happening.

Scott Wyden Kivowitz [00:03:13]:
And by the way, if you hear noises going on right now, there's stuff happening in my house. So, if you hear noises, that's why. I'm trying to record this while I can while it's on my mind. So with all that said, I apologize for the noise if you do hear it. And I hope to see you at some in person events. I'll be going to the ones I can, and I hope that you do as well. And if you see me there, please say hello and tell me that you listened to this episode on the photo breakdown or any other. I would love to hear it.

Scott Wyden Kivowitz [00:03:51]:
See you there.
