The Drop with Danno on GFN 광주영어방송

As broadcast September 11, 2023.  The start of a new week can only mean one thing, and we bring all the new muses out to dance in space, with new tunes and albums out from some favorites like JAWNY, Teezo Touchdown, d4vd, and a host of others in our first hour faves playlist.  Part 3 as usual we are Poppin Off with all the big new joints just out from the major labels and their constellation of stars, most notably new stuff from Laufey and Sampha.  We finish, of course, locally with new bubbling under K-pop and Korean indie for part 4, with a new single out from Luli Lee being a major bright spot in the sky.

Part 1

JAWNY – Boy Scout
Teezo Touchdown – Impossible
Slauson Malone 1 – New Joy
James Blake – Tell Me
Tirzah – No Limit
Mura Masa feat Daniela Lalita – Love

Facts
maxime. – apartment402*
- New tune from Montreal native Maxime, who now calls the Canadian capital of Ottawa home base.
- This new standalone would seem to be a left on the cutting room floor release, that is, a tune that for whatever reason got cut from the final version of maxime’s album that dropped May 5 titled Howlin Sun, which we definitely recommend you check out, along with the artist’s budding discog.
JAWNY – Boy Scout
- Another left on the cutting room floor candidate right here, with JAWNY having dropped a debut album earlier this year called It’s Never Fair, Always True, available everywhere via Interscope.
- The LA-based artist is set to play some headliner shows in the UK in short order, so that might be the main reason for the release, but anyway, another good up-and-coming artist to give a spin if you dug that latest bit.
Teezo Touchdown – Impossible
- The debut album from Teezo Touchdown is out as of Friday, with this being the single getting pushed in the aftermath.
- The artist, who’s based in Texas, had some previous features on albums with Travis Scott and Don Toli-ver, which got great notice.
- How Do You Sleep At Night is the album title, available everywhere now, a pretty dramatic roller coaster of a record.
Slauson Malone 1 – New Joy
- This is the 2nd single from Malone’s upcoming album titled EXCELSIOR.
- If you’re wondering why it’s Slauson Malone 1 now rather than just the previous digit-free version, I’m not exactly sure what spurred this.
- However, the big news is that in October, after supporting King Krule on tour previously for some West Coast dates, Malone is ready to head on a US headlining tour, and the debut album once again is called EXCELSIOR, out Oct 6 via Warp.
James Blake – Tell Me
- Just out Friday is the artist’s latest album Playing Robots Into Heaven.
- A bit of a departure for Blake, as the artist is very much in the lay low go slow heartache and agony sound previously, but this is some dance flavor sprinkled on top.
Tirzah – No Limit
- Another album just out last week but on Tuesday is Tirzah’s triplove…?
- The album is notable for its simplicity, with the artist having used only a piano and drum on the record, giving the songs an essential quality.
Mura Masa feat Daniela Lalita – Love
- The latest from American singer-songwriter and producer Mura Masa is out, although not a lot on the info front for this track, so we’ll just let this standalone speak for itself to finish part 1.

Part 2
Indigo Sparke – In The Garden
d4vd – Once More
LEISURE – Above Me
milk. – I Think I Lost My Number Can I Have Yours?
Blondshell – Street Rat
Slaughter Beach, Dog – Engine

Facts
Indigo Sparke – In The Garden
- Interesting new artist right here, who hails from Australia and is currently revving up for dates in Ireland, New Zealand, and homebase in OZ.
- The standalone single was co-written by Chairlift’s Patrick Wimberly and produced by Jake Portait (Unknown Mortal Orchestra), and deals with the mysterious mythology of Mary Magdalene.
d4vd – Once More
- Another interesting new artist and album out via Interscope is The Lost Petals, which just dropped on Friday.
- T/n David Burke, the artist is still only 18 years old and out of Houston, so congrats on the new release to this budding young artist who already has an impressive catalogue of hits.
LEISURE – Above Me
- Just out Friday is latest very chill cut from Auckland NZ-based veterans LEISURE.
- This would be the fourth and final single from their upcoming Leisurevision LP, which drops on Septem-ber 29 in full.
milk. – I Think I Lost My Number Can I Have Yours?
- Another interesting band hailing from the burgeoning rock scene of Ireland’s capital right here.
- With two EP’s out to their credit and some great performances at festivals this summer, this tune is from their upcoming third career EP, out later this year.
Blondshell – Street Rat
- For any of you paying attention, you’ll know that Blondshell released a self-titled LP earlier this year, and this is one of three new songs that will feature on the deluxe edition of the album.
- Blondshell, the deluxe edition drops in full on October 6.
Slaughter Beach, Dog – Engine
- A band that our rock guru Dan Lloyd hipped us to a couple of weeks ago is out with this slow burner that we’ll let breathe out to end the first half tonight.
- This tune is from their August 22 album Crying Waving Laughing Smiling, if you’d like to dig deeper for more of their goods.

Part 3 – Poppin Off!
V – Slow Dancing
Laufey – Lovesick
Marshmello feat Dove Cameron – Other Boys
Romy – She’s On My Mind
Olivia Rodrigo – logical
Yahritza Y Su Esencia – Dos Extraños
Sampha – Only

Facts
V – Slow Dancing
- This was obviously the big local doings here in Korea over the weekend, as BTS member V dropped a debut mini record just last Friday.
- This was the only single to drop in the lead-up, and the record is called Layover, if you’re just curious or if you’ve slept on it but still have your dog tags from the BTS Army.
Laufey – Lovesick
- Another big album just dropped on Friday is Bewitched, which is the Icelandic singer-songwriter’s soph-omore LP.
- Getting big points from critics and fans alike over the weekend, so give it a shout if you liked that number right there.
Marshmello feat Dove Cameron – Other Boys
- For any of you Disney Channel heads out there, you’ll know the name of the featured former child star Dove Cameron.
- Here, Cameron and Marshmello team up to go back to the artist’s “EDM Days” and get a dance on to a sample from Flight Facilities and a cut called Crave You.
Romy – She’s On My Mind
- Another album just out Friday is the new one from t/n Romy Madley Croft called Mid Air.
- Honestly, for anybody who doesn’t like getting a tune stuck into their brain, this one is like melded into mine, and truth be told I don’t even like the cut, but as always we let you figure out what you dig here on The Drop.
Olivia Rodrigo – logical
- Huge hype on this release as the viral singer-songwriter is out with sophomore album GUTS.
- Like Laufey, getting huge scores from the fans and critterati alike since it dropped Friday, and not surpris-ing given the quality of Rodrigo’s debut album SOUR.
Yahritza Y Su Esencia – Dos Extraños
- A title meaning two strangers for our penultimate part 3 audio adventurism tonight, this band is a trio of Mexican-Americans who are just out with Obsessed Part 2, which is the follow up to the originator that smashed records with several hit songs.
Sampha – Only
- With this single, we finally have some details to the elusive Londoner’s upcoming album Lahai, which we now know is out Oct 20, and let’s just breathe a sigh of relief at knowing and head to the fresh k cuts to-night.

Part 4 – Fresh K Cuts
Luli Lee – I Want You
THORNAPPLE – Extinction
DEUL – ONLY!
BRWN – wowowo
Sumsher feat Ellui – Hate you
K.vsh feat HYESUNG – Cinema
Yooan Kim – Someone Who Only Looks at Me

Facts
Luli Lee – I Want You
- This is the latest from the singer-songwriter and bassist that just dropped August 22.
- You can also check out Lee’s work with the band Bye Bye Badman as well, if you’d like to get to know the work beyond just the solo cuts.
THORNAPPLE – Extinction
- This is from an album called Animal that just dropped August 28 via Happy Robot Records.
- The veteran quartet have been together since 2009, and had a breakthrough on a music reality show back in 2013 because of their excellent classic song covers.
DEUL – ONLY!
- A bit of a departure here, as the Girls2000 member Baek Deul forages some solo work right here.
- Born in Goyang back in 1998, and still only 25, it’ll be interesting to see if this is a more permanent thing without the band in tow.
BRWN – wowowo
- This is a tune from an album titled Yours Truly, which dropped in late July.
- BRWN is the project of Oh Hyuk-young, who made debut back in 2018 and hails from Jeonju, with this being the latest offering.
Sumsher feat Ellui – Hate you
- The main artist on the cut here is from Suwon-si up near the capital city, and more well known would be Ellui, who’s really been putting out quite the volume of work since debut last year and a whole gang of collab projects in the process.
- Just a standalone right here, nothing larger to dig into.
K.vsh feat HYESUNG – Cinema
- The main artist here (pron. “cash” but spelled…) is t/n Park In-hyeok and Cinema this tune certainly is.
- Huge instrumental lines and old school 90s ballad flavors abound with this one, a very strong installment in the ever-popular genre.
Yooan Kim – Someone Who Only Looks at Me
- I cannot for the life of me find any deeper information on this beautiful and talented singer due to getting nothing but Girls Generation Kim Yoona sludge from the google machine, but this one fits right in with our vintage ballad vibes to close the door on the show tonight, having released as a standalone July 20.
