What is Leadership Toolbox?

Leadership Toolbox is a practical series designed to help student leaders build skills they can use right away. Explore topics including communication, organization, collaboration, goal setting, motivation, relationship building and more.

Greg Wilkins:

Welcome to the student activities online leadership toolbox. Today on Inspired Leadership, I will be talking about how to get organized and stay organized. Start by reflecting on your current habits. Ask yourself, are you organized or do you need to improve? Organization plays a key role in becoming a successful student, employee, and leader.

Greg Wilkins:

When you organize your tasks and manage your time, you increase your ability to stay focused and accomplish your goals. Now begin to take action. One simple step is to write things down. Carry a notebook or use a device to capture ideas, tasks, and details. Do not rely on memory alone.

Greg Wilkins:

Record information so you can review it and stay on track. Next, ask questions. Clarify expectations and gather details before starting a task. When you ask questions and take notes, you reduce confusion and improve your ability to stay organized. Now create a plan.

Greg Wilkins:

Make a to do list and actively manage it. List your tasks, organize them, and update them as you move forward. A to do list helps you stay focused and keeps your responsibilities visible. Use tools to stay organized. Set up a calendar or planner to track deadlines, meetings, and responsibilities.

Greg Wilkins:

Visualize your schedule so you can manage your time effectively and avoid last minute stress. Now delegate when necessary. If you are leading a group, assign tasks to others. Do not try to do everything yourself. Share responsibility, support your team, and create a more organized and efficient system.

Greg Wilkins:

Focus now on the power of a to do list. A to do list allows you to reduce reliance on memory, minimize the risk of forgetting tasks, and prioritize your responsibilities. It helps you group similar tasks together and use your time efficiently. Take time to track your progress. Cross off completed tasks and recognize what you have accomplished.

Greg Wilkins:

Use of unfinished tasks as a starting point for the next day and continue building momentum. As you practice these strategies, build consistency, stay committed to your system, adjust when needed, and continue improving your habits. Organization is not something you achieve once. It is something you maintain over time. And that's it.

Greg Wilkins:

Let's review what was presented. We discussed how to take control of your tasks, use tools like notes, lists, and calendars, and apply strategies that improve organization and productivity.
