Chrissy:

How as far as as music goes in your personal life besides your own music, what do you find yourself listening to the most? Like, who do you

paul:

listen to the most?

Troy:

Podcasts? Podcasts?

Chrissy:

No. But I mean, music. Like, what do you listen to? Like, what's your go to? I'm gonna driving from Nashville to fucking Minnesota.

Chrissy:

What do you

paul:

listen to? To music

Troy:

That's an interesting question because I have been so inundated with music. I like a break from it.

paul:

Yeah. That's kinda what I was thinking. Like, you just listen to everything but fucking music.

Troy:

Like I said, I'm listening to Joe Rogan. I'm listening to Garage Logic. I'm listening to I need to be intellectually stimulated. But honestly

Chrissy:

You're not getting that from this show.

paul:

Like like, what? Like,

Troy:

to be honest, we just took a road trip to Asheville. It's about six hour drive. Me and Jeanie and

Chrissy:

Oh, your anniversary?

Troy:

Yeah. And I whipped out the old CD case. Yeah. So we're listening to

paul:

got that something in my cart.

Troy:

Out and chains.

paul:

96 CDs. Oh, yeah.

Troy:

Like Yeah. A bunch of nineties and early two thousands because it was on CD.

paul:

Like the shit you were listening to when you were Yeah. When you first got your license and started driving and shit that you used to

Troy:

don't really have a play. Don't don't. I'm like, I'm pretty disconnected from like Spotify and all that shit? Yeah. I'm not listening to music a lot.

Chrissy:

K.

Troy:

You know? I don't

Chrissy:

I I have that music that

Troy:

I'm working on. It's common with a lot of lot of musicians. They just kinda we do that so much. Yes. That would make sense.

Chrissy:

Mechanic that has the car that doesn't run. Yeah.

paul:

Yeah. Yeah. So you play music. You listen to music twenty four seven. So, like, when you're driving, probably like you said, you listen to podcasts or whatever fucking

Chrissy:

Is there any movies

paul:

or some shit with that.

Chrissy:

Inspired you throughout your like, I wish I was, like, down or more like them. Or

Troy:

I think lately, it's been guitar players. Like like, I I I miss ripping on my electric guitar.

Chrissy:

I've done watched the video of you ripping

Troy:

on it. I'm just like So good. I'm so I'm so inundated with creating songs because I'm pushing to make a livelihood. So I'm always like, I'm doing my job. I'm doing my job.

Troy:

I'm doing my job. And then so many people around me are like, yeah. I really miss you. I like the guitar playing. I really miss you playing, you know, rocking out.

Chrissy:

And I forgot, like, honestly, because a lot of the songs that you sing in our country are more

Troy:

More singer songwriting.

Chrissy:

Right? But Yeah. Then I just watched your video that you put on YouTube or on Facebook the other day of you

Troy:

Shredder.

Chrissy:

Like, hey. I forgot how good

paul:

he was.

Troy:

Oh, man. Thank you. And and so I've been inspired lately to to do I'm gonna I don't know what I'm gonna do. I'm gonna start doing some more YouTube and just guitar playing videos. You should.

Troy:

Some things to

Chrissy:

You should. Because you're very

paul:

Do you got your own YouTube page? Do you

Troy:

know Joe Bonamassa? Joe Bonamassa?

Chrissy:

Yes. That guy

Troy:

inspires the shit out of me.

paul:

Okay.

Troy:

Such a great singer, great player. There's another couple of

Chrissy:

guitar players. Danny and Anne. Dan when we went to Nashville. Yeah. I think you guys swapped cats or something like that.

Chrissy:

So Danny is a huge Bottom of headband. Yes.

Troy:

Yeah.

Chrissy:

They go to his concerts.

Troy:

So now they get the young guitar player's name is Jared James Jared Nichols. Okay. Freaking just, like, just he's one of those, like, man. And you mentioned Eddie and him earlier. You.

Troy:

You've been playing ten years, and you're just amazing.

paul:

Like that prodigy show we were talking about. Yeah.

Troy:

Feel. Like, you it's not just a bunch of notes. It's like there's I I hear your story as you're playing. You know? That's I you know, like, guitar players for me, I love Eddie Van Halen.

Troy:

I love Slash? I I loved well, see Slash, he's he's okay to me. He's great, but he's not I was like, Eddie It's more a presence. So Yeah. Or David Gilmore, like, from Pink Floyd.

Troy:

That those singing the ones you could whistle the whole solo. It's like, you know, I I love hearing a story in that Yeah. Guitar playing.

Chrissy:

Are you a big Zeppelin fan?

Troy:

Oh, hell yeah. Yeah. Those are my

Chrissy:

favorite bands. Zeppelin and Skinner

Troy:

I actually have session tracks from Led Zeppelin two. What? Like, they're digital now on computer, but I have different versions of Whole Lotta Love. Yeah. The whole middle What?

paul:

I have You got different versions of it?

Troy:

Different solo to it. I have I have a friend of mine

Chrissy:

So these are tracks that were made that were not not never made the album?

Troy:

A friend of mine

paul:

were Never supposed to be released kind of deal?

Troy:

Big reels. They digitized them and he What? Snuck he snuck I probably snuck this. He snuck some

paul:

copies. Right? Mhmm.

Troy:

So it's Ramble On. It's Nice. Whole Lotta Love.

Chrissy:

Those are worth so much money.

Troy:

Oh. Woah. No. They're they're copies. So it's digital.

Troy:

It's like m p threes.

Chrissy:

But they're not out.

Troy:

But they're all they're all different versions.

paul:

Right? Dude, that's

Troy:

what I'm saying. You can hear you can hear like, I so I have the vocal. I have the drums. I have the bass, and I can mix them however I want. Cool.

Troy:

I can hear you playing. Yeah. Just breathe in, like, oh my god.

paul:

Fuck, dude. That's sick.

Chrissy:

That's so cool.

Troy:

Total you know, heartbreaker? Like that whole guitar solo because there's different versions of that. I took a track. I took a just the kick drum. I just took a I think it was levy break, but I took kick and snare.

Troy:

So it's just boom, cat. And I put a groove together. I don't I'm just making paraphrasing. But and then I wrote a riff around it. Maybe I have And so

Chrissy:

I just get goosebumps.

Troy:

So somebody Dude, how

paul:

how sick is You

Chrissy:

can just mix all this shit.

Troy:

Well, I put it How

paul:

can you, like, pull, like, just bits and pieces of That's what I don't mixers. Yeah.

Troy:

Let's see.

Chrissy:

I mean, that's a talent just doing that, honestly.

Troy:

I might not have it accessible here.

paul:

Have you had to fucking compare your music to anyone nowadays? Who would it sound the closest to?

Troy:

Have it here, but what what I was gonna say is, like, I I wrote a sounding track, and I put his drums in there just kicking a snare. I'm telling you one hit one hit, but but built it out into a track. And I just put the little blurb on on Facebook, and I'm like, anybody recognize the drummer on here? And almost everybody did. I could I could never use it because that sounds like Bonham

paul:

that it was.

Troy:

But I'm

Chrissy:

talking It was.

Troy:

I'm talking

paul:

Just two beats.

Troy:

That's together in a groove.

paul:

Everyone But

Troy:

I'm like because I wanted to use his drums on some songs that I'm gonna create, but I can't because it'll get

paul:

Flagged or something.

Troy:

Will send the gestapo after me.

Chrissy:

So they could recognize just that.

Troy:

Yeah. People could you know what mean?

Chrissy:

Fucking notes.

paul:

Yeah. Well, dude, the fucking people nowadays with shit like that, I mean, I especially on the Internet, they pick on pick up they'll fucking pick the tiniest details apart on just about any fucking thing.

Chrissy:

They do.

paul:

Any video you fucking post, they will pick it apart.

Troy:

You know, yeah. If I if if Eddie Van Halen played three notes in a row, I would know it's him. Really? You would? Yeah.

Troy:

I would. I I can you can Name that tune. You can I can hear that? I can hear I can hear their light. They're it's like a fingerprint.

Troy:

Yes.

paul:

When you were doing this, I'm like, it's a fingerprint.

Troy:

Could play the same Yeah. Lick and never sound like him.

paul:

Oh, really?

Troy:

You know? Yeah. I mean, close, but

paul:

What is it? Just because of the way the fucking guitar is drummed, or is it because of the way they strum the guitar? How what is the difference?

Troy:

It's the way they feel it. What? What? You know? So it's the way like It's your humanity.

paul:

It's your It's more the way they strum the guitar versus the way it's tuned.

Chrissy:

Recognize that guy?

Troy:

Oh, yeah. So me playing the track. I was just doing that live and playing to my that's my studio tracks playing, but I played live and sang live.

Chrissy:

So this is the sound of what I've seen, the hell we raised. So the cops showed up.

Troy:

Yeah. That's badass.

Chrissy:

Yeah. I was looking for that where you're playing the guitar, but I couldn't find it. So let's talk about the Midwest. What is that? Country.

Chrissy:

Midwest country music nominations. Yeah. So this year, you were voted in three different categories.

Troy:

Is that what you're looking for that? Sorry.

Chrissy:

Yeah. Yes. Play that. Here he is.

Troy:

I got that. Jesus Christ. Hundred and first airborne hat from them, guys. They gave me corn too. Played at the Fort Campbell base.

Troy:

Love that guitar with you. That's my favorite right now.

Chrissy:

Is it?

paul:

Yeah.

Chrissy:

How many cars do you have?

Troy:

102. No. No.

Chrissy:

Like, holy fuck. I got

Troy:

maybe 20.

paul:

I'm like, I feel like that sounds about right there.

Chrissy:

I was gonna say, I wouldn't even

paul:

have been surprised. No. Not even There's

Troy:

a shit ton hanging on the wall here. Yeah. No.

Chrissy:

On the floor because

Troy:

that color. Looks like a tiger shark.

paul:

Oh,

Troy:

yeah. It's freaking blue flame.

Chrissy:

That's crazy. What the fuck?

paul:

You gotta put that video on the podcast. Yeah. That's fucking insane.

Chrissy:

Yeah. That's what I was

paul:

I'll check that out.

Chrissy:

For. It's like crazy.

Troy:

Shake it out. I I found a little matchbox. I've seen that.

paul:

I love that. Alright.

Chrissy:

You guys love that. So let's go back to your Whiskey in the House, a song you wrote Oh, yeah. Which I you would love this song. That got nominated for Song of the Year. Right?

paul:

I love

Troy:

that song.

Chrissy:

You got nominated for Songwriter of the Year.

Troy:

Yeah. And Album of the

Chrissy:

Year. Album the Year. Yeah. No. You didn't win.

paul:

Show off.

Troy:

I didn't win.

Chrissy:

You didn't win,

paul:

but you

Chrissy:

nominated in three categories.

Troy:

That's huge. You know, it's the nomination means more to me because it was you guys who voted.

paul:

The Audubonier.

Troy:

Then when it gets to that other stage, it's all the artists that are nominated that that are It's all

paul:

morally. They

Troy:

vote. And they put a lot of You know, it's a it's maybe a conflict of interest, you know?

paul:

But They're like, fuck this guy away.

Chrissy:

You know, you know? And also, look at the amazing actors that are out there. I'm gonna say Johnny Depp, who's never won an Academy Award for anything.

Troy:

Yeah.

Chrissy:

And he is so talented and so good. So you can't

paul:

take that. Really? He's never won any?

Troy:

No. That's why I think when it's

paul:

How's that fucking positive? Friends

Troy:

and fans, when they nominate me, that Yeah. That means way more.

Chrissy:

Yeah. And People's Choice Awards.

Troy:

Yeah. I would love to get the award, but it's like

Chrissy:

you know? You were nominated, but out of how many, you know, people. So it's it's huge. And in three categories.

Troy:

So that's huge. Here we are, babe, is nominated for they call them the Josie Awards, and they hold them Yeah.

Chrissy:

I got that in here.

Troy:

Yeah. Alright.

Chrissy:

No. That's fine. You go go ahead. Yeah. So now now I'm

paul:

Yeah. Don't worry. We'll get sidetracked way the fuck before we even get to it.

Troy:

It was kinda cool going

Chrissy:

The JOSE Awards. Yeah.

Troy:

Going to the Opry House I mean, Opryland and and dressing up and No. Was cool.

Chrissy:

You guys look

Troy:

so cute.

Chrissy:

So what songs of yours that you've written, not necessarily sing, but what you've written have been, have radio play? Like, you're cruising down the road, and I'm like, holy fuck. There's a new song.

Troy:

Well, Halen, were raised up here in the Midwest. Okay. Up from, you know, throughout the Midwest from Wisconsin to Minnesota to Iowa. There's another song that I wrote that is now radio was like, I haven't had a lot of radio, but, like, I get mine on secondary radio, which is not k one zero two.

Chrissy:

You know,

Troy:

it's all Bob or private small companies. But there's a song I wrote that's really amazing with this artist named Jimmy Charles.

Chrissy:

K.

Troy:

He's had over 30,000,000 streams with it. Wow. He's had many of those streams are from using it on reels. 193,000 reels, including celebrities, and it's a song called they grow up too fast. Okay.

Troy:

I didn't write it, but I play it out. Okay. And he had he had just had a newborn when we wrote the song. And then we had another writer, Steve Jean, who's had number ones with George Strait with Alabama. But Jimmy says, hey.

Troy:

I wanna write a song about how fast kids grow up, man. Because I know this is my son. He's gotta go quick. And I said, alright. Mine just hit the twenties.

Troy:

I'll fill it up. Mhmm.

Chrissy:

It's fast.

Troy:

And now that's one of those songs when I play it out, people go, I know that song, you know. And people have paid paid me like, hey, will you play let me shoot out my phone and give you a $100 if you

paul:

Oh, no shit. Right now. Yeah. Yeah. Like, fuck it.

Troy:

Yep. $100 in a $100. Minutes. Yeah. Right.

paul:

But three

Troy:

minutes. That one's great. Been the most successfully, commercially hey, Mike. Hey, Mike.

Chrissy:

Oh, that's awesome. Most

Troy:

commercially successful song.

Chrissy:

And what's it called?

Troy:

They grow up too fast.

Chrissy:

Up too fast.

Troy:

It's another ballad, but it really does mean a lot to a lot of people. They'll use it for graduations for newborns. Oh,

Chrissy:

yeah. Fuck.

paul:

Like, literally about the perfect spirit. Every part of your life.

Troy:

Jimmy sent me a video of him down or in Times Square in New York City with a big old billboard for the song.

paul:

Nice. Grew up

Troy:

to 10. On there. He's like

Chrissy:

in Times Square. And he's the one that he sings it?

Troy:

Yeah. It's his song.

Chrissy:

Okay. I

Troy:

played it out because I helped write it. Yeah.

paul:

I feel like that's it's kinda crazy. When you for me, I don't know why or what, but it's like when I hear a song, I think that that person wrote it. Right? And it's

Troy:

like Yeah.

paul:

You don't realize that there's so many people.

Troy:

That's him and his son.

Chrissy:

That's him.

paul:

Yeah. Holy shit.

Troy:

That was a slow fall.

paul:

How did I fucking yeah.

Troy:

You alright?

paul:

Hell yeah. I didn't I landed on the on the chair.

Chrissy:

How did that happen?

paul:

I don't know. A fucking wheel got caught on something.

Chrissy:

Oh my god. That is funny.

paul:

At least it's on video.

Chrissy:

Yeah. It's on video. We're not cutting that out.

paul:

Trying to

Troy:

find out. There was a clip of Jimmy playing on a big stage playing

paul:

a song,

Troy:

and he brings his son out there,

paul:

and the

Troy:

whole crowd goes nuts. But Oh,

paul:

I fell for nothing. I don't even get to see the video of it. Oh, jeez. Hold on. No.

paul:

Just can't fucking set up any That is so funny.

Troy:

Yeah. I was

Chrissy:

like, what is he doing? Oh, he's falling.

paul:

And it was like a slow I don't know what

Troy:

it

Chrissy:

was It was slow.

paul:

Yeah. I think because I think because I like rocked. Maybe. Don't

Chrissy:

do it again.

paul:

I wanna recreate it. What

Chrissy:

about our drink, Mads?

Troy:

I wonder what that might mean to me. Oh.

Chrissy:

These are those like, wine spritzer things. Oh, okay. So this is called I don't even know. Iltramanto? Iltramanto spritzer.

Chrissy:

Can you bring the bottle? Please? I'll bring the bottle. It's made with lemoncello, spritz, and strawberry lemoncello. That is a little So it like a little wine cooler It's an Italian.

Chrissy:

Italian. Yeah. Sparkling wine. And we have it in what flavors? Strawberry and just regular lemon cello.

Chrissy:

Mhmm.

Troy:

Ready to enjoy. Lemon cello.

paul:

Lemon cello. Fucking 14%. Damn, Gina. Alright. Which one are you?

paul:

We're

Chrissy:

we're trying the lemon cello first. It's the plane, and the other one is strawberry.

Troy:

You're gonna get this. Come here. Read this. Read each one of those captions on that. It's an old car lighter thing.

Troy:

It's fucking hilarious.

Chrissy:

Oh, interesting. It's almost like a I think you're pretty champagne.

paul:

I know. Those captions. It's true.

Chrissy:

This is really good.

paul:

To learn what the hell what what it was doing.

Troy:

Put your finger on that teaches consequences. It

paul:

absolutely does.

Troy:

The past and memorable lesson. What is it?

Chrissy:

Oh, I've seen that on your page. Yeah. I've seen that

paul:

on your page.

Chrissy:

You need that.

paul:

I know I don't.

Troy:

I've been sharing it with everybody. I've been laughing my

paul:

eyes out.

Chrissy:

Fingerprint changer. Fucking right.

paul:

Yeah. Is.

Chrissy:

You're gonna learn today.

paul:

Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

Troy:

Hear science demonstrate heat transfer instantly.

paul:

I've seen that. Oh, That's a handle armor.

Chrissy:

Vehicle anymore?

paul:

Are there cigarette lighters in it?

Troy:

I think our Lincoln, we have a 2011 Lincoln.

Chrissy:

Mine still has one?

paul:

My '15 Volkswagen does.

Troy:

Does it? Does it?

paul:

Yep. Really? I know they still have a spot, but It's

Chrissy:

like, do they even have ashtrays

paul:

in Well, actually, that's funny you said it. It has a spot, but it doesn't I don't think it

Chrissy:

Yeah. Has

paul:

This is

Chrissy:

a wine book.

Troy:

Fuck. Hey. You've drinking today? Yeah.

Chrissy:

This is the strawberry lemon.

Troy:

It's not bad. It's just like, you know, I'm I'm particular with my liquor.

Chrissy:

No. I'm not a big fan. I thought I would like that better. It even smells funny. Yeah.

Chrissy:

I don't like that. I like the smell.

paul:

Drink it though.

Chrissy:

Snorting some lines.

Troy:

It's like Aussie snorting ants on the

paul:

side of dirt. Yeah.

Troy:

Yeah. You you know what? Did you watch that?

paul:

Oh, fuck. I've watched it like four or five times.

Troy:

Oh my god. So so when that when that came on and it was on Netflix, I I emailed Tommy and I love that fucking shit. I go I go

Chrissy:

I emailed Tommy.

Troy:

Yeah. I go I go I go I said I said, dude, way to open the show with the juice box girl. Juice box, you know what I'm

paul:

talking about?

Troy:

He's like, hey, everybody. He goes down and

paul:

he's watching you. Yeah.

Troy:

Oh, yeah. He goes,

paul:

juice juice box. Yeah.

Chrissy:

So do you, like, interact

paul:

with him?

Troy:

Not so much anymore. Maybe about like, yeah, I have his number and

Chrissy:

Did you meet Pam?

Troy:

I never met her.

paul:

Okay.

Troy:

They were long.

Chrissy:

Long split up.

Troy:

But, like, I emailed him that night about the movie premiere, and

paul:

he said,

Troy:

it's it's better, man. I'm I emailed him, like, that's how I was doing. I don't bother him. You know?

Chrissy:

So my stupid little story here, but so my friend Alex, who's a horse trainer and owns a huge stable in Bovie, Minnesota.

Troy:

Yeah. That's his cousins up there.

Chrissy:

Yeah. Well, his stepdad Yeah. Owns owns Owns. Owned Owns.

Troy:

What

Chrissy:

she owns now. So she bought that from

Troy:

Oh, really? Yeah. Yeah. His dad grew his his dad was his last name is Bass. Tommy Lee Bass is his name.

Chrissy:

So What is

Troy:

it? Tommy Lee Bass.

paul:

Bass. Why is it so why is Was that Why has he got Tommy

Chrissy:

Lee's stepdest name, though?

Troy:

Well, his middle name is Lee, so he just went with Tommy.

paul:

Oh, instead? Sounds better.

Chrissy:

Oh, I can't think of their names now.

Troy:

Yeah. I don't remember either, but I met

Chrissy:

It's not Bass, though.

Troy:

No. I met them at so Tommy gave me backstage passes to Kiss and Motley Crue at the state fair. Okay. And he's like, hey. Well, you know, when I did that record thing with him, the he was gonna come around, and he was gonna tour for that record, published methods of mayhem.

Troy:

And he said, when I come to Minneapolis, want you to play guitar. You know? Fuck yeah. Yeah. I was I was way excited.

Troy:

Right? But then the mothership calls, you know, the the whole the corporation of Motley Crue said, hey, guys. We can make some money.

paul:

And Yeah.

Troy:

I don't know if you remember all this, but they signed an agreement, the death of Motley Crue.

Chrissy:

Yeah.

Troy:

Could tour no more? You know? Yes. They also made a big old thing, and I and I'm like, are you guys really done touring? He said he said, yep.

Troy:

But that don't mean we can't make music. And then he also

Chrissy:

said why he ended up doing this methods of mayhem. Right?

Troy:

Well, the oh, okay. That's where I was gonna go with that. Him and Nikki six just Nikki had just done 6AM.

Chrissy:

Okay.

Troy:

And great record too, by the way. But they they got mad that they they invest so much time in that, and then then mothership comes calling, and then they have to abandon all that. You

Chrissy:

know? Sure.

Troy:

I mean

paul:

Fucking record. I go

Troy:

where life is too. Like, you know? But they kinda got upset that they put all their time and money into this, and then they leave it. But so yeah. And then he says, hey.

Troy:

We're coming to oh, and two things. Like I said, you really you really done with Motley Crue? He says, doesn't mean we can't make music. And there's also a clause in there. We we we can't tour anymore to this agreement unless we all agree we want to.

Troy:

Well, you know what? Shit. So What

paul:

the fuck?

Chrissy:

Well, I honestly feel

Troy:

Remember they had the big ending two fifth 2015?

Chrissy:

His rolling coach do that. Like, this is the final.

paul:

Yeah. The final final. You're never gonna see us again. Just kidding. He

Troy:

lives about thirty minutes from me.

Chrissy:

Does

Troy:

he? He's in he's in Leapers Fork, Tennessee.

paul:

Okay.

Troy:

So is Mick Mars. So is Bradley So Nelson, remember the Nelson? The Nelson brothers? Yep. They

paul:

my god.

Troy:

Pigeon Forge? No. Leapers Fork.

Chrissy:

Oh, where did well, know, my boy, Kid Rock. Yeah. He's gotta live.

Troy:

Kid Rock. Yeah. He's in he's in, like, Whites Creek, I think.

Chrissy:

Yeah. Because was it you, Mike, that showed me his place on Mhmm.

Troy:

The White House, or was it the Y Y?

paul:

We we have his White House.

Chrissy:

Google Maps? Maps. Yeah. Yeah. Like, do you know whose house this is?

Chrissy:

I'm like, well, no. It's your house.

Troy:

You know? Cup Minnesota people playing with him.

Chrissy:

Yeah. Shannon. Yeah.

Troy:

Her ex husband was at the gig Thursday night, and he was, like, going on about you know? Where you were playing?

Chrissy:

Yeah. Really?

Troy:

Dave's. Yep. And then they had he had Cat Perkins in there for a little bit.

Chrissy:

Okay. I've met her.

paul:

And then

Troy:

I guess he gossiped well, he told me, he said, oh, she got fired. I don't know why. But, anyway yeah.

Chrissy:

Well, we're we just seen Kat Perkins played with Kip Rock the last time we seen him. Yep. We saw. Yep.

Troy:

Yeah. So I guess she recently got fired. I don't

Chrissy:

know why. From him?

Troy:

Yeah. Oh. Kid But

Chrissy:

I just figured he comes to town, and he just, you know, like a lot of the artists One of my crew. So

Troy:

cowriter's Mason Douglas wrote We the People with Kid Rock.

paul:

Really?

Chrissy:

Yeah. I love that song. Yeah. Do you listen to Kid Rock ever? Oh, you don't listen to a lot

Troy:

of music. I know of it. I know. I did see it ever. Yeah.

Troy:

See, there was that CD, bow with the bow. No. Whole the whole

Chrissy:

When nobody knew who Kid Rock watched, this girl was listening to

paul:

him I every just

Troy:

I seen him on that big 1999 Woodstock Yes. When he come out with the red coat.

paul:

This is 1999. Yeah.

Chrissy:

The very first time I seen Kid Rock, it was on like sixty minutes. It was like a fifteen or twenty minute thing, you know, spoof on him. Not a spoof, but a clip. And me, I mean, I was living in the lake house right down the street. Colton was pretty little, and we're watching this, and I'm like, who is this guy?

Chrissy:

I just remember like, who is this?

paul:

And my god. Hell.

Chrissy:

Yeah. I was like, who is this? He fucking rock, dude. And I don't I don't remember if Colton had heard of him or not at that point in time. Don't think

paul:

he did. Could rock with this

Chrissy:

But I'm like, I like this guy. Then Josie, you know, he

Troy:

was Oh,

paul:

yeah. He

Chrissy:

was still alive. And

Troy:

Yeah. The Got

paul:

a little

Chrissy:

it was, if it was sixty minutes, forty eight hours, whatever the the show was, it was only, like, fifteen long. I've always tried to find this too, but I've never found it again. That's where I originally, like, ever even sort Sixty of minutes

Troy:

little story on

Chrissy:

like that. Can't don't quote me on the sixty minutes

Troy:

I've seen him on that that Woodstock and and I all that coming And I'm like, who's this fucking Right.

paul:

Right. Retarget.

Troy:

Everybody got lit lit up to him right there.

Chrissy:

So I first seen him in concert and he opened for Limp Bizkit. I think. Yeah. Yeah.

Troy:

I did it all for the nookie.

Chrissy:

Or wait. Yeah. He opened for Limp Bizkit? No. No.

Chrissy:

No. No. No. No. I got my I got my stuff wrong.

Chrissy:

That was Eminem. Kid Rock opened for Metallica. That's where I first seen him. Yeah. And that was sometime in the nineties or whatever.

Chrissy:

And I'm like, I'm not here for Metallica. I'm here for him.

paul:

Yeah. And when

Chrissy:

I lost the people there, we're huge Metallica fans. And I'm like, fuck that. And honestly, smoked Metallica as far as my I'm concerned as far as like entertainment value.

Troy:

Yeah. By this time, Metallica got all pussified and changed. Yeah. They just like They just said there's Pierre Pierre Water Pierre whatever.

Chrissy:

Got the time he had a broken foot or a leg, so he basically sat on the chair the whole time and didn't

Troy:

eat anymore. And then Ken rocks

paul:

it and doing backflips and running up and watching the

Troy:

Making of some kind of monster, and he was just such a prissy little

Chrissy:

What was that about?

Troy:

It's a documentary of Metallica making this record some kind of monster.

Chrissy:

Didn't watch it.

Troy:

I think it

Chrissy:

was But yeah. He's kind of a diva.

Troy:

Yeah. Exactly. I'm saying, like, I'll send you lots of rock and roll respect. Yeah.

paul:

You You just lost your manic Yeah. Fucking pussy.

Chrissy:

Some good tunes, obviously.

Troy:

Yeah. I mean, we ain't denying it.

Chrissy:

Not denying the talents.

Troy:

Oh, like, you know, you need caviar and Pierre. Like Yeah. Me seeing kiss at the Motley Crue concert too was a little little Booze. Backstage, and and I see Gene Simmons. Actually, I'm taking some pictures, and Gene's maybe far that corner on.

Troy:

I'm like, I see him. I point at him, and he just gives me the old Did he? Stare. Yeah. Just a jerk.

paul:

The all in yard stare.

Troy:

What the respect was like, oh, they got this table back there with these big high back king's chairs. They got a waiter coming out with the tail tucks

paul:

and the

Troy:

top bow

paul:

and teeth

Troy:

and whatever those silver little

paul:

The boogie fucking bitches.

Troy:

You know? Here's your That's not

paul:

wrong, bro. Sir. But

Troy:

but then again, I guess

paul:

Dude, I can't like, you're

Troy:

a king for fifty years. You you don't care. You just

paul:

I can't fucking imagine, like, a fucking rock star just having like some waiter coming in with the fucking Towel.

Troy:

Towel and the bougie

paul:

fucking, here's your grandpa pun.

Chrissy:

Yep. Fuck. Was. The best

paul:

I'd be like, where's my fucking tomahawk steak or something? Probably. Yeah.

Chrissy:

The best documentary that we ever watched was about Ozzy.

paul:

What was that God called, bless Ozzy Osbourne.

Chrissy:

God bless Ozzy Osbourne. Have you seen

paul:

that one?

Troy:

Is it on Paramount? I might have seen it.

Chrissy:

I don't know what we watched it on.

paul:

You gotta get the little black box. Fuck all these streaming services.

Troy:

I heard about that recently. Yeah. I've got one

Chrissy:

Ozzy Osbourne, if you haven't seen it, it is phenomenal.

Troy:

Made after he passed away? No. Before. Before. Oh, maybe then I didn't see it.

Chrissy:

It is really, really good. Tommy Lee is on there, you know, telling his versions and, like I think it was produced by his wife, Cher.

paul:

Mhmm.

Chrissy:

I believe so. Yeah. And so God bless Ozzy Osbourne. It was really enlightening as to the rock and roll world and him, obviously. Yeah.

Chrissy:

But, I mean, he was out of his fucking mind.

Troy:

Yeah.

paul:

Obviously. Oh, I can see some of the stories and the shit that that fuckers got John,

Chrissy:

we leased the story out. While the snorting the ants, they were doing the gross with Beverly Hills Hotel.

paul:

And he goes like that's something I'd try for fucking $20.

Troy:

Dude, you know what? I had friends like that in high school, and we'd be all drunk.

paul:

Oh, who's that guy?

Troy:

I'll eat the June bug.

paul:

Yep. Yeah. That was him. Really? Dude, I drank while I ate my own puke.

paul:

I fucking snorted buffalo sauce.

Troy:

No way.

Chrissy:

He did it.

Troy:

How long do you wanna go? I do have to get going prettier.

Chrissy:

Oh, can close out at any

Troy:

point in time.

paul:

Hold on.

Troy:

I love talking. Wanna check

paul:

it straight. That's what I told you. That's what happens. It's Yeah. She's got enough to go for like seven I've been

Troy:

like like I said, it's awesome that you really like because I get asked all kinds of dumb questions like, you know

Chrissy:

Well, I'm sure some of them

paul:

I don't

Troy:

like they

paul:

don't know much come back into town? We'll do round two. September.

Troy:

September 12.

Chrissy:

You're going back until September?

Troy:

I don't know.

paul:

Oh, right after I

Troy:

have opportunities too, but it's like I'll gotta make sense money wise.

Chrissy:

We go to Nashville.

Troy:

Time wise.

paul:

Let's do it. Let's go out there. We'll fucking go out to your ranch. So but

Chrissy:

we have to go down by there?

paul:

I can go down there. We're working at Bush Beans.

Troy:

Where's that?

paul:

Sandridge or by I'll give a set in Knoxville.

Troy:

Yeah. About an hour outside. Oh, kinda east. Yeah. East Tennessee.

Troy:

Yeah. But yeah. You got a you got a couple questions left? And

Chrissy:

Yeah. We

Troy:

should wrap

Chrissy:

shit up here

paul:

pretty soon. We got seven I got, six pages of questions. What do you wanna what do

Troy:

you wanna hit what do wanna in the house. Okay.

Chrissy:

Okay. Since he's a big whiskey drinker.

paul:

Oh.

Chrissy:

How did that get song of the year or got nominated for song of the year? What kind of what what inspired that song?

Troy:

That song is inspired by my own relationship with liquor. Hell. It's it's about, like, out of sight, out of mind.

paul:

Okay.

Troy:

Like, if I if I I've gotten way better. And I I never had a problem with drinking where I got in trouble and wasn't obnoxious and people hate me. I just I would just like to I would have stiff ones every night. Every night. And and it's just like, you know, you that song is about, like, if I don't have it in the house, I'm too lazy to get off my ass.

paul:

And go get it. Yeah.

Troy:

And so I kinda got my shit

paul:

in the garage.

Troy:

There's some real real life in there, like, you know, like, well, maybe I'm too afraid to quit because I won't be myself. You know? That's the lyric. It's like, you know, but, you know, all the promises of warmth and cheer always brings you right back to my lips. Yeah.

Troy:

That's true. That's the lyric.

paul:

I can't wait to listen to all these songs.

Troy:

And the holes that punch through the walls, you know, like our

paul:

That's one thing I never did is fucking

Chrissy:

Get violent.

Troy:

Why didn't get violent, but I would

paul:

like Well, just even get enough to fucking get angry enough to hit a wall or

Chrissy:

You're just not an angry person.

paul:

Here's what

Troy:

here's what and it's just from over time. Like, I think liquor to me makes me very unfiltered and short. Like like, even refuse. Now that I haven't been drinking nearly as much, I mean, I'm telling you, I probably have three, four a month. I'm talking one with dinner on a side and then a week apart.

Troy:

But I used to be four at night, every night, every time we go play, there's a

paul:

lot That's kind plenty where I am of people now. I'm like, I'll fucking I get home from work and I'll probably have like, I don't know, one, two beers, whatever, with dinner or whatever, something like that. On the weekends, I'll be fucking around in the garage a lot of like eight, ten, twelve, but it's like space between eight, ten, twelve hours.

Troy:

Hours? Oh, yeah.

paul:

Yeah. So it's like, whatever. Just Yeah. I mean, it's like, it's not like I get, fuck. When I was 14, would get blackout drunk.

paul:

Don't remember shit fucking even actually, honestly, maybe

Chrissy:

We all did.

paul:

Four or five years ago, I was to that point where

Troy:

You know?

paul:

I'd go out on the weekends and I'd get blackout drunk. Don't remember shit. I'd be like, I wake up and look at my phone. I'm like, alright. Who do I gotta apologize to this morning?

paul:

God.

Troy:

Anxiety. And and that's it. The the lyric in that song is like, and the holes punched through the walls are things I can't take back. Yep. And in the morning, you're just mad.

Troy:

You know? Yep. But when I say that about the there's a bunch of stuff in that song, really. But the what it really means to me is, like, it's simple. If it's not in the house, I'm too lazy to go out my get get out of my

paul:

house and go drive and go pass. Drive the town.

Troy:

Oh, see? See? Try the

paul:

tone and go get it.

Troy:

And these are

Chrissy:

And he said we deliver.

Troy:

It's like I was Well, they of mind, and I and I feel better. I'm I'm more I'm more I that when you're in that whole stage of every day, it's just a fog.

Chrissy:

Well, then I feel like if it's an everyday thing, it isn't fun anymore.

Troy:

I I have nothing against drinking by any means. I had some of the best times of my life.

paul:

Right? Everybody does. I I hope anyway. Yeah. Yeah.

paul:

No. Know.

Troy:

There was like there's a joke too. There's a couple jokes I'll tell on stage. Like, one of them is like, hey. I tried to write a drinking song, but I couldn't get past the first few bars.

Chrissy:

There you go.

Troy:

Or this one for you, like, hey. Was on my way to the gig here tonight, and I seen a billboard that said, got a drinking problem? We can help. So I called the number. It was a liquor store.

Troy:

Yep.

Chrissy:

That was my bill worth. No.

Troy:

Just kidding. Like

paul:

What's that one bill worth? Some I I seen it. Some dude walks into a liquor store, and he's like, oh, this place is gorgeous. How much do you want for this place a month?

Chrissy:

Oh, yeah. Yeah.

paul:

Still liquor stores How are

Troy:

is rent? One time, like, I was reading a drinking and drug evaluation, and one of the questions was, have you ever blacked out? You know, you were talking about blacking out. Yeah. Have you ever blacked out?

Troy:

I'm like,

paul:

yesterday.

Troy:

Shit. Not that I can remember.

paul:

Yeah. Right.

Chrissy:

I don't remember. How do you know? Right?

Troy:

Not that I can remember.

Chrissy:

Real quick before we close-up, I just wanna make sure that we talk about your your nonprofit that you started.

Troy:

This

Chrissy:

is very important. It's called Instruments for Education, and it's a five zero one c three that donates musical instruments to middle schools in Tennessee. Correct?

Troy:

Yeah.

Chrissy:

And students.

paul:

Yep.

Chrissy:

With teaching with empowering kids through music or teaching them how to

Troy:

Publicly, it's like we donate to Middle Tennessee students, teachers, and schools Okay. From k through 12.

Chrissy:

Okay. Gotcha. Nice. Tennessee.

Troy:

Yeah. They call it middle like, East Central Minnesota. They call it Middle Tennessee.

Chrissy:

So how did you get involved in this, or how did you create this, and what was the the grinding force behind it?

Troy:

Real simple story. A friend another songwriter friend of mine asked if they I had a spare keyboard or her husband's a teacher, and he wanted one for his room. And I'm like for his teaching room. And I'm like, can he just bring one from the band room? And he's like, no.

Troy:

I can't use the band room stuff in their classroom. So I said, I got one. Gave it to him. He sent me this video of him teaching a fifth grade class, so 10 year olds science, the phases of the moon, you know, like, from full moon to half moon

paul:

to Oh, yeah. Yeah.

Troy:

And and he they all wrote lyrics to the melody of blue moon. Oh. And they called it new moon. And he sent this video, and they're all, like, they're all arm and arm, and he's gotta calm him down. So I'm watching something like that keyboard just connected with every kid.

Chrissy:

That's really all can resonate with music. Just Like you said, as a small child to old Yeah. Old people on And their

Troy:

they loved it, and they were excited. And he's gotta tell them to quiet down. Yeah. Because they're so So I'm like, okay. I see enough musician friends with that dusty guitar or keyboard that's not

paul:

used sit there.

Troy:

And so I go like, hey. If I put that in a student or a teacher's hand, would you donate that? You know? And then 10 of them did before That's cool. We even

paul:

Started in before you even got it. Yeah.

Troy:

C three. Yeah. I'm like so then I went I mean I mean, I'm still have a tough time getting people really supporting it in a big way. Like, I thought we'd get some philanthropists out of

Chrissy:

Nashville. Yeah.

Troy:

Yeah. And I've been on TV for it. I we I even I even did a partnered with Pharrell Williams when that Lego movie come out. They they brought the the marketing team reached out and said, hey. Will you do some promotions with your instruments for education with this movie as we launch in Nashville?

Troy:

You know? And, I mean, we had

Chrissy:

a Do you do, like, drives for it?

Troy:

Or So we did an instrument drive.

Chrissy:

Okay.

Troy:

We got two recorders and an acoustic guitar.

Chrissy:

That was it?

Troy:

That was it. What? And it was at a record store. Really? I went to the premiere of the movie.

paul:

The thing

Chrissy:

in the fucking town I know. No.

paul:

That's not true. Nashville. Yeah. But think about it. I feel

Chrissy:

like Everybody wants money for their

paul:

Not only that, but like, look at you.

Troy:

I'm gonna act like I'm complaining, but let me tell you the

paul:

honest many guitars do you have?

Troy:

I get it done. Sometimes it's out of my pocket. Since 2018, we've donated almost 2,000 instruments.

paul:

Jesus Christ.

Troy:

To people that donated, sometimes we buy it, we purchase it. That's no. Yeah. It's a big deal.

paul:

I feel like those musicians are like fucking kinda tied to their instruments like

Chrissy:

Oh, there's a personal

Troy:

They're they're gone.

paul:

And part. Whether whether it's a song

Troy:

or

paul:

like On it. Or a moment where like you said, like you know you were writing that song for your grandma, right? And then you sang it with this guitar, and now they don't wanna get rid of that guitar.

Troy:

Yeah, sometimes.

paul:

You know, it's like you said, you got like 20 guitars, it's like, how many of them are you getting rid of, you know?

Troy:

Yeah, there's maybe one or two that are sentimental that I will, you know

paul:

Yeah. Like, I I could I could see where, like, some of these guys are like, I'm not getting rid of this because I got a sentimental value. Yeah. But

Chrissy:

So we're gonna go real quick, and then we're gonna finish up. Rapid fire questions.

paul:

Alright.

Chrissy:

Best singer you've ever heard of live?

Troy:

Best singer I've ever heard live. Man, you ask tough ones because I have to think

Chrissy:

It is hard your mind first.

Troy:

Oh, I'm sorry. Rapid fire.

paul:

Never heard of her.

Chrissy:

That bourbon is slowing him down from

Troy:

the same You shouldn't have

paul:

drank so much, Justin.

Troy:

Quickly, that Teddy Swims guy. Holy cow.

Chrissy:

Who's Teddy Swims?

Troy:

Oh, man. You better look him up.

Chrissy:

Okay. Well, I wouldn't know.

Troy:

Like a Chris Stapleton, but even soulful. Just Teddy Swims. Okay.

Chrissy:

Okay. Most famous person in your phone.

Troy:

Tommy Lee.

Chrissy:

K. This is wonder who asked this question. Have you ever met Kid Rock?

Troy:

Nope. I have not.

paul:

I have not.

Troy:

I would love to though.

Chrissy:

And if you have not met him, how do we make that happen?

Troy:

How can you get his number for me? Yeah. Right? Yeah.

paul:

Can you

Chrissy:

I don't know.

paul:

I don't know.

Troy:

I'm sure maybe one day it's a possibility.

Chrissy:

Well, if you do, you better fucking

Troy:

get a picture. I'll I'll no. I'll FaceTime him. I'll say, hey, do you mind saying

Chrissy:

Yeah. You better do.

Troy:

You know what? By the way, you know I

Chrissy:

have spent so much money on his fucking

paul:

You know what mean? Fucking hilarious is he's gonna be FaceTiming you. You're gonna be like, tired. You're just gonna hit No. Snooze I would

Chrissy:

never if he FaceTimed.

Troy:

Oh, really? Ever. Don't know? Do you know Gavin Dugras? No.

Troy:

Really, really awesome singer. Anyway, he had a song. In love with a girl.

paul:

Do remember

Troy:

that song? Yeah. I he had a bunch of popular ones, but I I ran I met him in the bar one day. I'm like I'm like, my wife's such a big fan. I'm a Okay.

Troy:

Do do you mind if you go, I'm a just and I I I feel stupid. Even ask her, but I go, would my wife's a big fan? Would you go, I'm in love with the girl phone. Yeah. To meet on my camera.

Troy:

Yeah. Yeah. I'm in love with the girl. Who Her name is Jeannie. You know?

Troy:

Did he do it? Well, no. What happened was, like, I I hit the I didn't hit the roll button. No. You see a little bit of them because when I hit stop, it roll.

Troy:

And so you see a little bit of a space and then it go dark in

Chrissy:

my pocket.

Troy:

I am I didn't look. I'm all excited to get home.

paul:

Genius. Genius.

Troy:

Love. Shit. Yep. And then

paul:

I I just

Troy:

I'm gonna check this out.

Chrissy:

That is is a a great great story. Story. Who was cooler in person than you expected?

Troy:

And again, Tom,

paul:

I believe because

Troy:

I only knew him as a celebrity and from afar, asked what he would do. Then

paul:

I You're like, got to god douchebag, and then you met him, and then you're like, oh, he's auctioned.

Chrissy:

Yeah. Anyone famous

paul:

Like Mean Your Heroes, they say never

Troy:

really There was a phenomenal bass player. I can't remember his name, but he was playing with Richie Sanbora.

Chrissy:

Okay.

Troy:

And so I was talking to him, wanted to talk to him. Tony Levin's his name. He played with Peter Gabriel. He played with big, big people.

Chrissy:

A guitar player?

paul:

Bass player. Okay.

Troy:

And and and he's he's, like, renowned. So I went up and said, hey, Tony. Just wanted to say, man, great playing tonight. This was at the myth, the Mirage. I mean, the Mirage.

Chrissy:

There's in Vegas?

Troy:

No. The Mirage in Minneapolis. Yeah.

paul:

Oh, there's a Mirage.

Troy:

Where the precinct burned down.

paul:

Oh, okay. You know?

Troy:

But yeah. And so I go, hey, man. Tony just wanted to say I I really admired you and projects that you worked on. He goes, yeah. You know?

Troy:

By the way, these girls are trying to fuck me. So I'm like I go, okay. Well, you know they only wanna get to Richie. Right?

paul:

They're just using

Troy:

you to get

paul:

a sale. Lots of weight. That's funny. Quick fuck.

Chrissy:

Who has the biggest ego? That guy?

Troy:

Yeah. Probably. But most most people I haven't met any real arrogant dicks. You know? Like like, don't you know?

Troy:

I ain't got time for you.

paul:

I ain't

Chrissy:

got time for you.

Troy:

Yeah. They're they'll sometimes they're just a little quicker in and out. Like, they they'll say hi, Anthony. Thank you. But you could tell they don't wanna talk.

Troy:

Yeah. You know? And I just Well,

Chrissy:

imagine they they're all busy.

Troy:

Be cordial. Or they do

paul:

it like a fucking 100 times a week.

Troy:

I feel a little bit of that too. I do that to people sometimes too.

paul:

I just

Troy:

don't like you know, I don't have there's some people who wanna occupy all your time. Yeah. Even even like Like me? Yeah. No.

Troy:

I mean, just in general, and you're like, I got, you know, these these other people standing here talking wanna talk to me. Know? Especially at shows if they're, you know, paying a ticket for me. It's like Yeah. I kinda have to

Chrissy:

You have to spread the love.

Troy:

I gotta say, hey. Know? But, you know, some other people wanna say hi. And I don't it comes across like I feel like I'm a dick, but I'm not trying to be.

Chrissy:

What okay. What one songwriter would you give anything to write with?

paul:

Dead or Alive? Artist. Dead or Alive.

Troy:

You know, I really I really wanna write a song with Keith Urban because I feel like I Really? We're the same age, and I think I feel like you're in vibe.

paul:

Yeah. I was just Yeah. It's funny you say that. I was feeling like just a little bit that I've heard of your music kinda gets

Chrissy:

the same now. He's a

Troy:

well, he's about my age. Yeah. Same same kind of style that I love. Yeah. He's a phenomenal guitar player.

paul:

It's like Same kind of tone, same kind of fucking butt. Yeah. Melody. I I love Yeah. Like

Troy:

That would be

paul:

Same kind of hair. Yeah. I'm

Troy:

so lucky to still have some. Right? It is it's

paul:

that right

Troy:

as thin and butt, you know.

Chrissy:

What do you still want to do that you have not done yet?

Troy:

You know, I'd still want I still want that.

paul:

Like a goal or a

Troy:

minus that big superstar to record my song where everybody knows that I wrote it. I don't I don't have to be the singer of it, but I want people to go, hey, you know, Troy wrote that song.

paul:

See, but that's that's that goes back to what I was saying. Like, you get someone big like Keith Urban to sing that song, and then they just no one really looks into who wrote songs Yeah.

Chrissy:

To us. Right.

paul:

You know what I mean?

Troy:

I had a song on hold with him for a while. He he loved it. It was it's called days like these. It was on hold hold for a song.

paul:

Sounds like a song that he fucking cut.

Troy:

A song. Yeah. Days that well, I'll

paul:

Or is it Days Go By or something?

Troy:

Yep. Days Go By was his big Yeah.

paul:

Yeah. Yeah.

Troy:

Wrote a song called Days Like These. He put it on hold.

paul:

Copied it. That's what hold

Troy:

is is where they say, hey, don't play that for anybody else. We're thinking

Chrissy:

Yeah. About

Troy:

It was ten

Chrissy:

It's like layaway.

Troy:

It was ten months. It was really exciting. That's kinda hard. He loves my song.

paul:

It's kinda awesome, but kind of addictive.

Chrissy:

Big thing to ask though

paul:

Yeah. Right?

Chrissy:

Of a songwriter, like, oh, so now I can't

paul:

I can't shop because,

Troy:

like, if you do it, you're changing my life, you know.

paul:

Right. Was

Troy:

But that's what happens, a record label after ten months, you know, and and they're getting other songs too. So but they just said, it's just it's just a little too close to something you've done before. And then I thought days go by. Oh. But you you never know.

Troy:

He might cut it. I've had a few holes with big artists. That's Really? Really is

paul:

what's That's that's gotta

Troy:

be think I'm on the right track.

paul:

Yeah. You know? Well, then it's kinda

Chrissy:

in the right city, obviously. And Yeah. Sure. Making the right content.

paul:

Caitlin Smith?

Troy:

Yeah. Yeah.

Chrissy:

Who's that?

paul:

I don't

Troy:

know her personally, but at Berkman

paul:

that works for me. That's his niece. She's phenomenal. Written so many songs. She's doing a thing, like, on Facebook and TikTok right now.

paul:

Yeah. Like, she's counting down her thousand songs.

Troy:

She just I never got knocked out three kids in about three years too.

paul:

Just her songwriting and her singing, she's pretty amazing. But she's written a lot for a lot of big

Troy:

We love Caitlin. She's got a great voice, man. Phenomenal. She's back here living Yep. To the mountains.

paul:

Down, like, Farmington down that way.

Troy:

Her husband, Raleigh.

paul:

Good people.

Chrissy:

Yeah. Small little small little world we live

paul:

in. Don't know him

Troy:

personally, but we've met. You know? Yeah. It's a guy

paul:

that I put. It's his niece, so I've never met her. But I follow her a lot. It seems pleasant and down to her.

Troy:

She was on Jimmy Jimmy Fallon doing

paul:

She was? The list of songs of artists that she's

Troy:

written Dolly Parton. Dolly Parton.

Chrissy:

Dolly Parton.

Troy:

Megan Training.

paul:

Fucking everyone.

Chrissy:

She writes like her one shit though.

paul:

She wrote one of the what which one was it for Kenny and Dolly? She wrote something that was

Troy:

super Yeah.

paul:

We all know. Islands of mystery.

Troy:

It's called Friends. You can't make old friends.

paul:

Is that the one

Troy:

of us? Yeah. Yes. You can't make old friends.

Chrissy:

You need to go on that show at

Troy:

What's your own?

Chrissy:

That ain't music show, man. Knows shit, man.

Troy:

Oh, you're like, you hear it? Yeah. You

paul:

hear a tone and you can Hear or yeah. They play a song and you gotta hit the button when you know the song. Yeah. That's Name that too.

Chrissy:

Name that

paul:

I used to be able to do that back in the day, like, within, like, the first two to three seconds, I can name any country song.

Chrissy:

You see, and also sit in a

paul:

truck all day listening to fucking

Troy:

country music. Country music isn't doom doom.

Chrissy:

No. I would

Troy:

say it's more than anything.

Chrissy:

Always like Broadway Country and Aaron

paul:

Lewis. Ever since Yeah. Brantley Gilbert came, I feel like he kind of fucking tipped the scale into that more, I don't know, Yeah. Yeah. I mean,

Troy:

that he wrote dirt road ant Kicking in the sticks. He wrote that song for Jason L. Dean about swerving like George Jones.

paul:

Oh, yeah.

Chrissy:

Yeah. Like, what's the big guy right now? Morgan Walling.

paul:

Yeah. I couldn't tell you one I love George Jones, Jerry Jerry Reed. Yeah. Jerry Reed. Old school dude.

paul:

Yeah. I've been fucking digging, listening to the shit out of that shit lately too.

Chrissy:

So growing up, my dad's play had had a 12 string guitar and a six string guitar and he would sit on the edge of his bed and sing songs and I would just remember being like in awe of my dad because he had a very good voice and could play a few notes, but you know, but it was like the old old old time.

paul:

Yeah. Yeah. Eighties fuck up.

Chrissy:

Was just the old songs, like the old sixties and seventies country music where it was like three notes, you know.

paul:

Yeah. About Billy Strings, Marcus King?

Troy:

Oh, yeah. Amazing.

Chrissy:

Billy Strings. Yeah.

paul:

It's hard

Chrissy:

playing. I don't think is.

paul:

Don't like still here?

Troy:

There's a little joint by my house that my band will play once in a while. It's called Kimbroughs, and it really is maybe a quarter. It I'm not kidding you. It's it's maybe this big. Really?

Troy:

And Those are looking fast. Played there about a month ago. I I go in and see every once a month on a Thursday, Derek Saint Holmes. He's the original singer for Ted Nude to sing a stranglehold. Oh.

Troy:

Stringing singing stormtrooper. Hey, baby.

paul:

I love Ted's talk. Derek Saint

Troy:

Holmes is the original singer of the those songs. Some

paul:

But Marcus King, look at him. Young guy. Yeah. But he's old school.

Troy:

Yeah.

paul:

But He just his his song, his writing, whatever he's

Troy:

doing. He's very southern rock. Very southern. Yeah. But it's so cool to step into little venue, and it's like, there there's that dude I've heard all my

Chrissy:

life. Right? Right?

paul:

That would be so badass.

Troy:

Matter of fact, there's a little record store next to that place, so I go to Ted Nugent, Stranglehold album, the first one, and I go, hey, Derrick Lee, son. You're my record.

paul:

Cool. Yeah.

Chrissy:

Yeah. Absolutely.

Troy:

So I got Oh.

Chrissy:

Well, I know you have to go. So we'll wrap it up.

paul:

Pitter patter. Gosh.

Chrissy:

Thank you so much for joining us today.

Troy:

Kept all this shit down.

Chrissy:

Oh, we will. We'll get it all done. Know people. It'll probably be four parts, you

paul:

know. Yeah.

Chrissy:

To keep getting longer and longer.

paul:

But I just I think it's like a two hour show and it's like four

Chrissy:

hours Paul is gonna be listening to your music now while

Troy:

he's going to work.

paul:

Yeah. I'm going home. A fucking play it right now tonight.

Chrissy:

But anyway, thank you. Thank you so much for coming back to Thank for having me. And thank you for being on our show. And we just hit some pretty good milestones with our little podcast here in Zanero.

paul:

What was that? Twenty five percent of

Chrissy:

25% of people with 5,000 to 10,000 subscribers were in the top 25%.

Troy:

Yay. Cool.

paul:

Baller hauler. Congratulations. Little

Chrissy:

over 900 and some thousand views, so

Troy:

Nice. We're making some dents

paul:

Trucking along. Yeah.

Chrissy:

For something that we just love to do just for fun and

paul:

Shots and girls.

Chrissy:

Meeting people. Well, you know, obviously, I've known you, but,

Troy:

I didn't know it was kind of a podcast thing, but, like, back in 2019, I did a series called Project 52 where I did half of it was me alone, songs that I wrote, and I performed them live. And then the the second half was me bringing in cowriters, and we performed songs. So we had two chairs to talk and Yeah. So I'd give the artist I wrote with a interview, and then we performed the song live, and then they get to tell about their dates coming up. And then we but Yeah.

Troy:

People kept saying this is 19.

paul:

You know? So that's basically podcast before podcasting

Chrissy:

or podcasting. Yeah.

Troy:

And I before they labeled podcasts. It was only YouTube.

paul:

Yeah. Yeah.

Troy:

And then I just quit doing it because the fifty two was fifty two weeks. We were done, and I should have continued it because We people

Chrissy:

were were started up again.

paul:

Yeah. Bring it back.

Troy:

Yep. But congrats

Chrissy:

on that.

paul:

But thank you for joining Beer Booze and BS, and thank you Troy Castellano.

Troy:

You're welcome. Thank you.

Chrissy:

High school friend. Have a good safe trip home, or do you gotta leave?

Troy:

I'm leaving tomorrow morning.

paul:

Okay. Driving or flying? Driving. Yeah.

Chrissy:

Did you get your truck fixed?

Troy:

Yeah. I mean, it's band dated. We'll get home.

Chrissy:

Alright. Band dated. Good to see you.

paul:

Chrissy:
