Good morning and
welcome to Morning Cereal.
Okay good morning and
welcome to a brand new week.
It's going to be a great week culminating
in Halloween this Friday night.
Now I hope you're ready.
You have all your candy bought.
Let me ask you this.
Did you go with fun size or did you go
with king size candy?
Well today is National Mentoring Day and
National Black Cat Day.
It's a perfect combo.
Wisdom meets superstition.
Now whether you're the mentor or the
learner, remember luck
favors the prepared and the
persistent.
Well our quote today is in the same
school of thought by one of
my favorite singer songwriters,
Phil Collins, who once said quote, "In
learning you will teach and
in teaching you will learn."
Now that's the magic of connection.
Learning and mentorship goes both ways,
feeding growth on both sides.
Synergy people.
Well today's news facts and
birthdays are for October 27th.
Starting back in 1962, that's
when Black Saturday happened.
During the Cuban Missile Crisis, an
American spy plane, it
was shot down over Cuba and
the Navy drops warning depth
charges on Soviet submarines.
Then moving up to 1982, that's when China
announced its population had reached over
one billion people.
Today it's estimated that their
population is just
over 1.4 billion people.
Alright moving up to 1982, that's when
the first CD player
was released in Japan.
Now if you got a look at this one on
YouTube, this is not the
one that you had in your car.
It would take us a couple
more years to get to that.
Well lastly on this date in 1984, the
movie The Terminator
debuted over the weekend and
we've been quoting
"I'll be back ever since."
Alright well happy birthday to you.
Today is your birthday.
You share a birthday with TV
personality Kelly Osbourne.
She's 40 today.
Front man of Duran Duran, Simon Le Bon.
He's 66 today.
Front man of the Stone Temple Pilots, the
late Scott Weiland
was born on this date in
1967.
He would have been just 58.
Well the number one song on this date in
1988 was "A Groovy Kind
of Love" by Phil Collins.
Now this is a tender, incredible ballad
from the movie Buster,
which we've already talked
about.
Nobody's seen the movie but it had some
great songs on the soundtrack.
Now the song "A Groovy Kind of Love"
became one of Phil's biggest hits.
It's a simple, heartfelt love song that
showcased Phil's softer
side and I know it definitely
made some love tape mixes at the time.
Okay, well turning to our groovy book
review, we are reading
Mel Robbins' "The Let Them
Theory."
Today we're in the sub-chapter "Because I
was afraid of what people would think."
Well that says a lot,
just right there, right?
Are we mature enough to
admit that and then move past it?
Well this chapter hits home.
Robbins writes quote "Most of what we
avoid isn't danger, it's disapproval."
End quote.
And she unpacks how fear of judgment
quietly dictates choices
in our careers and in our
confidence.
She shares how learning to let them think
whatever they will is
the gateway to peace.
Quote "When you're no longer held hostage
by opinion, you become unstoppable."
End quote.
Now through stories of her own
insecurities and audience
experiences, Robbins shows that
confidence isn't about
loudness, it's about alignment.
You stop editing your truth for applause
and you start living it, right?
Your takeaway here is every "what will
they think" moment is a
growth opportunity for
you.
Fear of judgment fades when you value
authenticity to yourself more than
approval from others.
All right, here is your Monday takeaway.
The loudest critics are often imaginary.
Live anyway.
So as you mentor or learn today, remember
your real superpower is
staying true and authentic.
All right, thanks for tuning into Morning
Serial this morning.
