And Baruch Hashem? Baruch Hashem. Baruch Hashem. Baruch Hashem. Baruch Hashem. Did you ask them to get married? Did they ask you about...? Oh yes, yes, yes. Yes, I'm very good at telling people not to get married when they shouldn't get married. I'm called the anti-shadchan. I really am. I'm like, you guys should not be getting married. I'm very good at that. And you feel this couple...? This couple definitely, they're amazing, they're awesome. I wouldn't be their mesader kiddushin if I didn't think they should get married. It's actually very special because she is my best friend aleha, alav hashalom's niece. Best friend passed away. I grew up in his house. I knew her when she was born. And so my best friend's parents will obviously be there, her grandparents. And if you knew who I was when I grew up in their house, what I was when I was 16, 17, 18, I was I was not a rabbi, I tell you that much. I've done teshuva for everything. We had amazing house parties in that house, really. Anyway, so for her for his for my best friend's, alav hashalom's, parents to see me marrying off their granddaughter would be very special. It's going to be so good. I said just now, like, it's going to be like an eight-hour chuppah. It's going to be We're going to go for it. Okay, everyone stretch this morning? Expanded? Did you do that this morning? Neck and shoulders? Come on. Gosh, got to be alive, children. Zichron teruah. Zichron teruah. Zichron teruah. It says in the Torah, it will be a day of zichron teruah. What does that mean? To remember the shofar blasts. Zichron teruah, it says, isn't that interesting? We got to work out why it says that. So we're going to. We're going to read the Netivot Shalom together. And it says this in the Gemara: יום טוב של ראש השנה שחל להיות בשבת. Rosh Rosh Hashanah Shabbat, it's like Sukkos, Chol Hamoed, Shabbat. It's just huge. So we know what we say about this. Netivot Shalom says that on Shabbat we go into the palace. Hashem's the host and He's putting on this amazing meal. Shabbat, we go up to be in the palace. On Yom Tov, it's the other way around, Hashem comes to our table, He comes down to our table. But on Yom Tov Shabbat, what's going on? There's like first course at us, second course we get like what's going on there? It's like it's an amazing It's got everything. We just got everything. There's everything. It's all coming together. Sukkos, Sukkos, Shabbat, Chol Hamoed, first day of Sukkos on Shabbat is the best kiddush of the year. You just take like 15 brachos for kiddush, and like \"Baruch Atah Hashem\", everyone's like \"Amen\". \"Baruch Atah...\" And then by the time I finished kiddush, that all the sechach had burnt, because like holy fire is like sechach. So here we go. We have the yesod of this. Every mitzvah, דבכל המצוות יש חלק במחשבה דיבור ויש חלק למעשה בפועל. Every, every single mitzvah has the action, but it also has the ma'aseh and the machshavah and the dibur. The kavana. We said this before, many times, there are five levels to every mitzvah. Every mitzvah, you have, almost every mitzvah, you have the the act itself, put on tefillin, light your candles. Then you have the words, those there's the berachah, or the learning Torah, the divrei Torah, the more meaningful it is, the more you get out of it. Then you have the basic kavana, which is this is a mitzvah, I'm doing it because Hashem told me to do it, and it's good for me, and it's good for our relationship. Then there's the higher kavana, which is I'm actually doing it for Hashem. I'm not even doing it for me, I'm not doing it for reward in this world or the world to come, not doing it for my relationship, just doing it because it makes Hashem happy. It's the best kavana in your mitzvot. Hashem, I'm doing this to make You happy. And it's so good. I'm putting on my tefillin, makes You happy. Hashem, I'm dressing tzanua because it makes You happy. You like seeing me walking around tzanua, it's going to make You happy. And the fifth level, simchah. Berachah mitzvah without simchah, you missed it. You didn't do it. You did it, but... So it says, there's no reward for mitzvot in this world. You don't get a reward for mitzvot in this world. Why not? Because you can't. You can't. There's nothing you could Dude, it's like going into a sweet shop, a candy store, with like million-dollar bill, note, whatever you call them. You just can't use it there. It's like, it only costs one shekel, like I can't deal with that. The reward for a mitzvah, you don't get it in this world. But the reward for the... simcha shel mitzvah you get in this world. That's why whenever the Torah says, like the second paragraph of the Shema says, if you do this then you'll get rain, and if you don't you won't get rain. So how can you tell me that there's no reward in this world? It's not for the mitzvah, that's for the simcha. How much joy do you get from doing your mitzvot? And we said in last class or a class, that part of your cheshbon hanefesh, part of your self-accounting is how much chiyus do I get from my mitzvot, how much vitality and energy do I get from my mitzvot? Am I bouncing around, putting on my tefillin, tzedakah, I'm getting life force, whoosh! Because, why is that very important? Because your soul is loving mitzvot. Your soul, much more than your body loves cheesecake or whatever it loves, your soul mamesh loves mitzvot. So your soul is freaking out. You do a mitzvah, your soul is going wild! You hear the shofar, your soul's going wild. You shake a lulav and esrog, your soul's going wild. Eating matzah, your soul's going wild. Your stomach's going wild as well, but different thing! Your soul's going wild while you're eating matzah! But your body isn't, really. But if you were in touch with your soul, you'd just freak out. You'd be freaking out. So the Piaseczner Rebbe says that what you need to do is, because we're human, it's very hard, because we're in these fleshy bodies and we've got all our problems and our issues and our overthinking and our heaviness, imagine what it would feel like if you could feel your soul. Imagine what my soul probably feels like. Just imagine it, \"Wow, my soul,\" and then what that helps you is just spark a little spark. Say, \"I, my soul is loving this,\" and really breathe through your nose and try and imagine, and then you can actually like start tapping into your, feeling what your soul is feeling. So it's called fake it till you awake it. Not make it, you don't need to make it, it's your essence, you don't need to make it. Fake it till you awake it. That's why before Mincha you should jump up and down a little bit, shake your arms, get ready, okay, let's go! Before you light your Shabbat candles you should be like stretch, expand, deep breath, light candles, baruch ata, baruch ata, baruch ata, baruch ata Hashem. Elokeinu Melech Ha'olam, asher kideshanu, You made us holy. Kadosh. Kadosh. When you hear the shofar blow, that's making you holy, did you know that? That's making you, you might not feel it though. You're like, \"No, it's not. It's just, it's, we've been in shul for like eight hours now, when are we having lunch? That will make me holy.\" No, no, no. The shofar is making you holy, that is piercing through everything, and it's tapping you back into your soul, it's, it's shaking up your soul. That's what the shofar is doing. You've got to be very, very excited for the shofar. But we did say in the last class, don't put too much pressure on yourself. Very, very careful when you hear inspirational spiritual ideas, \"The shofar's the biggest moment of the year, and your whole life depends on it!\" And then you fall asleep for the shofar and you're like, \"I've just ruined my life!\" No, you didn't. It's all right. You can hear the shofar next year, it'll be okay. You sit in the sukkah, it's fine. But you should, you should feel, you should feel like that. I'm so excited, I'm just so excited to hear the shofar, to sit in a sukkah, to do all these amazing things. But every mitzvah has a do, something an actual action that I'm doing, but it also has the purpose of the mitzvah. Why am I doing the mitzvah? I'm doing the mitzvah to connect to Hashem. I'm doing the mitzvah to open up my heart. The shofar is, I'm blowing the shofar to announce the new king. Yes, I'm blowing the shofar because that's Mashiach, it's announcing the Mashiach. There's loads of reasons I'm blowing the shofar. To remember Akeidas Yitzchak, that Avraham Avinu was willing to give his life for Hashem. There's many, many reasons I'm blowing the shofar. So just because you don't blow the shofar on Shabbat, you don't do the actual action, doesn't mean you can't tap into what the shofar is. You can still get everything that you were going to get from the shofar even if you don't get to actually blow the shofar. No reason you shouldn't, they're not always combined, you don't have to always do everything. It's, some people say it's the thought that counts. It's the thought that counts. Tell your wife that on her birthday when you didn't get, \"I wanted to get you a present. Well, it's the thought that counts.\" She's like, \"No, it's not. It's the ring that counts, you idiot!\" So it's both. But Judaism says, \"No, the thought counts. It really does count.\" And not only that, well, we'll see. We'll see. וחלק, חלק השייך למוח נקרא מקדש. The part that is to do with your mind, your intention, your kavana. What's my kavana? Remember, part, most of the, lots of the davening is called Shofros. We talk about the shofar all the time. So we're remembering the shofar. We're remembering the shofar. And remember it's called Yom Hazikaron, it's a whole day of remembering. Yom Hazikaron, we're remembering. Remember who you are, remember who Hashem is, remember what you want in your life. Remember, remember, remember, remember you've fallen asleep, you're a zombie, wake up, remember. So you can do that. בחלק המעשה על ידי האברים נקרא מדינה. Says in the in the Gemara, יום טוב ראש השנה שחל להיות בשבת במקדש היו תוקעין אבל לא במדינה. When the Beis Hamikdash stood, if Rosh Hashana was on Shabbat, then they'd blow the shofar in the Beis Hamikdash, but they wouldn't in the rest of the country. So what he's saying on a deeper level is the mikdash refers to the intention, because the intention you can always have, but the medina refers to the action. So even if you can't do the action, you can still have the intention. And the Gemara in Berachos said that if you really, really, really, really yearn to and want to do a mitzvah, and for some reason you were stopped, not your own fault, it's as if you did the mitzvah. If you really wanted to do it, I just told this story recently, I'm not going to tell it again. The eighth day of Pesach in in Joburg story? I'll tell it again. Sorry, anyone People listening on on Spotify, I know I always say the same thing, but you just need to hear it again, because you didn't actually integrate it at all, did you? It's your fault, not my fault. Hashem tells me what to say. So I'll tell you very quickly, it was a long story, very quickly. So, we we don't leave Israel for chagim. You oh you offer me a billion dollars to go and run Pesach in America, I'll be there. But anyway, but in general, I'm not going. I'm not leaving. I'm not leaving. Someone says, \"Can you run a beginners' Rosh Hashana minyan in wherever?\" I'm like, \"No way! Rosh Hashana's for me, I'm sorry. I'm selfish here. All year I'm helping other people, I'm not doing nothing beginner on Rosh Hashana. I'm freaking out because there's a new king, that's what I'm doing. Leave me alone. Not teaching anyone anything, thank you very much. God bless you, child.\" Say amen. So anyway, so we had Leil Haseder in Yerushalayim, but then on Sunday, Chol Hamoed, we went to South Africa. And in South Africa, and we were there for Chol Hamoed, and I had my first ever eighth day Pesach. I never had an eighth day Pesach, are you crazy? But I had to speak. There were about 300 people, I was speaking on eighth day Pesach. So I basically, because this is just what I do, I turned eighth day Pesach into the holiest day of the year. Because I'm a rabbi, I can do that. And how did I do it? I said because eight days of Sukkos, the the last day of Sukkos, Shemini Atzeres, is the highest day. So the eighth day of Pesach is higher than that, because Hashem didn't tell us to have an eighth day. He told us to have an eighth day of Sukkos. He didn't tell us to have an eighth day of Pesach, we chose to have the eighth day, so it's even more special. So I was getting really into how Pesach, and I made up this whole, and everyone was just sitting there like, \"Shut up.\" I was like, \"Another day of saying Hallel, that's so bad? What, you need to check your phone now, like what?\" So I was getting into it. But funny halachos when you're an Israeli Jew outside of Israel for eighth day, weird halachos. You can't do melacha, but you don't make Kiddush. You say Havdalah, you can't But one of the halachos is that you can put on tefillin. On the eighth day morning, you put on tefillin in your home so no one sees, and then you go to shul and daven with everyone else. What can you do? So anyway, we did I did this whole eighth day thing, and I was so into the eighth day, eighth day, and then it was Motzei eighth day, and I remembered that I hadn't put on tefillin. And I was so broken. I was so upset, because I was so into the eighth day, I just didn't think I I just felt like I'm in the eighth day. So I didn't put on And I was so crushed. I was like, I'll never get that opportunity to put on those tefillin ever. Let's say I live another thousand day, 10,000 days, I'll never get that day back. I'll never That's an opportunity for tefillin I'll never have again. There's nothing I can do. I can't put on tefillin twice tomorrow. I've just lost. There's nothing I could do to get it back. And I was really like, although I didn't beat myself up, I didn't think I didn't Shut up! I didn't feel Do you want to close the door? I didn't I didn't feel guilty. I didn't think Hashem hates me, but just in myself, I like I lost this opportunity. And I was So then it went in two stages after that. I was really upset. The first stage was, I'm so happy that this is what I'm upset about. It says a lot about you, what you're upset about. Some people are so upset that their football team lost, and I don't care about that. So I'm like, wow, Baruch Hashem that that's what I'm upset about. Most people would be like, \"Oh, I forgot to do it. It doesn't matter. I'll do it tomorrow.\" But that first, and the second thing I realized, the brokenness and the yearning to have done it makes it as if I did it. That's what the Gemara says. So I did kind of get it back. I got it back by being in pain that I didn't get it. I'm not sure why I told that story, but there was a reason, but that's a Torah vibe, it's always good. בחלק המעשה על ידי האברים נקרא מדינה. Fine. כשחל ראש השנה בשבת מתקיים ענין תקיעת שופר במדריגה עילאית יותר מבימות החול. When Rosh Hashanah falls out on Shabbat, we actually fulfill the mitzvah of blowing the shofar in a higher way than if we blew the shofar. You're all like, \"Well, not fair. Why did the rabbis, just because of a rabbinical thing, because you might walk in the bip-bip-bip, we can't blow the...\" No, higher. It's higher! It's higher than it would be otherwise. כל הכוונות ועניינים הפנימיים שתקיעת שופר נוהג ושייך גם בשבת קודש. All of the inyanim, all of the ideas, and the depth, and the beauty, and the Kabbalah, and all the everything, and the pnimiyus that that go with tekies shofar, it's also, it's shayech to Shabbat. We're not doing it, but yearning to do it, that's on one level. I wish I wish we could be blowing the shofar now. That in itself does amazing things, because you got your You're not even getting your You're not getting your fulfillment, you're just yearning for it. So that's an amazing thing. אלא כשחל ראש השנה בשבת מתקיים ענין תקיעת שופר במדריגה עילאית, it's high level. Umeramaz beroshei teivos, and this is there's a remez to this in the roshei teivos, תקעו בחודש שופר בכסה ליום חגינו. Tiku, we say this, what is it, Thursday's song of the day? Thursday's song of the day. Tiku bachodesh shofar, you shall blow the shofar on the time of the chodesh where the moon is covered up, which we know is Rosh Hashanah. That's how we know that Rosh Hashanah is called a chag, by the way. And that's roshei teivos, תקעו בחודש שופר בכסה is is roshei teivos, beShabbos. BeShabbos. Shabbat. Shabbat. How amazing is it that we have Shabbat, no? Right, just hearing the word Shabbat, doesn't that just make you like melt into everything's okay? Just like Shabbat. Gut Shabbat. Ah Shabbat. How good to be a Jew! You got the holiest day of the year every week. Every seven days, you've got the holiest day of the year. Shabbat. And it doesn't matter, once Shabbat comes in, it doesn't matter. You're in Shabbat now. Shabbat. And we said Shabbat, we're we're waiting for Olam Haba, yom shekulo Shabbat. There's going to be a time when we're all just in Shabbat consciousness, which means we're just present. Shabbat means present, lasheves, lishbos, to stop, to sit, to be deeply, deeply present, to be in touch with your neshama. Shabbat. So Shabbat shechal, ראש השנה שחל להיות בשבת, we got it we've got everything together. \"Are you answering that question, the question that you started with about that on Shabbat we go to the palace, and then at home when He comes here with us, what are we doing now with Rosh Hashanah? Did you answer that question?\" I didn't give a good answer. I just gave a me answer, which is I just blew my mind. I think, and I think that's the purpose. I can't work out if we're going to Hashem or Hashem's coming to us, but I know that something awesome's happening, and that's cool enough. I like the fact that I can't grasp it. Once I can grasp it, I'm like it's not that Pardon? \"Maybe we're all just like having a party in the middle?\" In the middle. Yeah, but at whose house? That's the question. We're in His house? He's in our Or maybe we're just at the Beis Hamikdash, so I don't know. \"Yeah.\" Good, so you're saying I don't know. That's what I'm saying. \"His house.\" I love that! I have no idea. I love it when I don't know. I'd I'd hate to have a religion where I could grasp everything. I understand everything. What sort of God would that be if you could understand everything? It would be stupider that I get everything. Now, I want to grasp a lot, because I want to know I'm doing the right thing. It's like lulav and esrog. What on earth are you doing? I love lulav and esrog, because it's just so weird. It's just so And I know all the yud and the hei and the vav and the hei and the spine and the lips and the ding-ba-da-ba-da-ba-da-ba. I know all of that. But just to know all of that, and be like, what are you doing? Have black boxes on your head and arm, that's so weird. Every day I get to put this blanket over my head, and I got black boxes on my head, and I feel like a like transformer robot. It's so good being Jewish. No one would ever do that unless you actually believed there's an infinite Creator of the universe who wrote a book. Who nowadays turns their phone off for twenty-five hours on the face of the planet apart from an Orthodox Jew? Not one person on the face of the planet turns their phone off for twenty-five hours apart from an Orthodox Jew. You're crazy! And doesn't do any work. No emails, nothing. Don't touch money. Nothing. Everything, every- \"Did Charlie Kirk do it?\" Pardon? \"Charlie Kirk.\" I don't know, but I'm sure he got it from us if he did. But I bet Charlie Kirk did borer. I don't do borer. Not that I I don't know very much about him, but he definitely did borer, I bet. And if he didn't, he should have, cuz So, Shabbat, Shabbat, Shabbat, ay, a gut Shabbat. בשבת קודש, כי אמנם בשבת קודש יש ענין דתקיעת בחדש שופר. You know, on on Shabbat there is, so we're talking about it all the time. And it says in the Yerushalmi, דיליף שאין תוקעין בשבת מדאיתא שני כתובים. Why don't we blow on Shabbat? Cuz it actually says in the Torah. It says, כתוב אחד אומר זכרון תרועה וכתוב אחד אומר יום תרועה. We said we spoke about this yesterday. It talks about Rosh Hashanah at least twice in the Torah. One time in the Torah it calls it Yom Teruah, which we spoke about yesterday. Very important class, if you didn't hear it, it's up somewhere. But in the other place it says, it's called וכתוב אחד אומר, אלא הא בשבת שרק מזכירין, הא בחול שתוקעין, as it says in Parshas Emor. It doesn't say teruah, Yom Teruah, it says zichron teruah. לא נזכר עיקר מצות תקיעת שופר. In the place in the Torah where it says this these are the festivals and these are the mitzvot, in that place it doesn't say blow the shofar. It says zichron teruah. Why does it say zichron teruah? Why didn't it say Yom Teruah? Why doesn't it say blow the shofar? It doesn't say any of that. It says zichron teruah. It must be referring to Shabbat, cuz there's only one Rosh Hashanah where you it's a zichron teruah and not a teruah, and that's Shabbat. So the Torah itself is loving Rosh Hashanah Shabbat. It's loving it, it's In fact, the Torah is saying that the main thing is zichron teruah. לא נזכר עיקר מצות תקיעת שופר אלא זכרון תרועה בלבד. Veleguf hamitzvah, it says, אלא כאמור שזכרון תרועה גם הוא מגוף חלקי המצוה של תקיעת השופר המתקיימת כשחל ראש השנה בשבת. You can only fulfill the mitzvah in the Torah of zichron teruah on Shabbat. The Torah itself says you have to have a day of zichron teruah, correct? But if there's Rosh Hashanah doesn't fall on Shabbat, how can you do that? So only on years where Shabbat Rosh Hashanah falls on Shabbat can you fulfill what the Torah says, which is to have a day of zichron teruah. You know, and everyone's all like, \"Oh, well, when when Rosh Hashanah falls on Shabbat, it's a bad year for the Jews, and the Beis HaMikdash was destroyed, and October the 7th...\" I didn't realize October 7th was also. And also when we entered the land of Israel was. Basically, the Yerushalmi says it's either a very bad year or a very good year. Very bad year or a very good year. God bless you, child. Thank you. Say, amen. So fine. It's either a very bad year and very good year. Now, this year is going to be an awesome year, cuz what could go wrong? Don't answer that question, I shouldn't have said that. But get out of your mind, don't answer that question rationally. Gosh. It's going to be an awesome This is going to be Do you know we've entered the period of shalom now? We're in shalom. We're in the final stage. We're in erev Shabbat of creation. We are actually in erev Shabbat of creation. Now, we understand that erev Shabbat is a very intense time, cuz you're getting ready, and the yetzer hara comes, so just be beware of that. It could be a bit intense. But we're coming out we're coming out to Shabbat, yom shekulo Shabbat, yom shekulo Shabbat. We also blow the shofar cuz they used to blow the shofar before Shabbat to tell people to go home, close your shops, blow the shofar. So we're blowing the shofar to remember that it's Shabbat. That's why you don't need to blow the shofar on Shabbat, cuz it is Shabbat. So on Shabbat you don't need to remember Shabbat. That's why we say the mitzvah of זכור את יום השבת לקדשו is every day of the week, all the time. Every time you think about Shabbat, you fulfill the mitzvah from the Torah of remembering Shabbat. I know some people who think about Shabbat very many times every single day. That's very many mitzvot they're doing all the time: Shabbat, Shabbat, Shabbat, Shabbat, Shabbat, Shabbat. ובזה הענין על פי שנזכר למעלה שיש בשופר ב' ענינים. There are two main inyanim. How do you say inyanim? Inyanim. There are two main inyanim of the shofar. Alef, inyan Yom HaDin. What the shofar is telling us about is Yom HaDin. It's the Judgment Day. The Judgment Day, Yom HaDin. But remember we said, what are you being judged on? Not how many mezuzahs you kissed last year, but how much you want Hashem to be the King. That's what you're actually being judged on. And the shofar nimtakin hadinim, the shofar sweetens the judgment, cuz it shows that we're we want the relationship with Hashem. And Beis, the second inyan is hischadshus hamelucha, is the new King. There's a new King coming. There's a new king coming. ונזכר בטעמי תקיעת שופר leRabbeinu Saadia Gaon, שהוא על דרך מלכותא דארעא שבה הכתרת המלך תוקעים בשופר, because when the new king comes, you blow the shofar, and when the Moshiach comes, you blow the shofar. דמכיון שראש השנה הוא יום התחדשות הבריאה, because Rosh Hashana is when the creation is, Hashem's recreating all the time, על כן הוא גם יום התחדשות הכתרת מלוכתו יתברך, because it's the recreation of the world, so it's the recreation of the King of the world. Vehinei beShabbos kodesh, this is from Kegavna, כל שולטני רוגזין ומארי דדינא כולהו ערקין וכל דינין מתעברין מינה, which means there is no din on Shabbat. There is no din on Shabbat. We say in Kegavna, anyone who davens nusach Sefard, instead of Bameh Madlikin, we say Kegavna, and it says that Shabbat is so holy that all the, there's no din in the world. It's all chesed. Shabbat is kulo chesed. People come out of Gehenom. There's no Gehenom on Shabbat. Everyone's out of Gehenom on Shabbat. And we actually see in practical halacha, there's no beis din on Shabbat. The courts are closed on Shabbat. So imagine Yom Hadin is on the day that the beis din's closed. That's Shabbat! Rosh Hashana is Yom Hadin, but if it's on Shabbat, there is no din on Shabbat. So that's awesome! But we always say the first day of Shabbat is dina kashya, I mean the first day of Rosh Hashana is, is strict judgment, Hashem's a bit more derech hamishpat, you get what you deserve. And then the second day of Rosh Hashana, and you can really feel it, I don't know if you can feel this, I very, very much feel it, second day of Rosh Hashana is dina rafya. It's a more light, and we blow the shofar, and it says that Hashem moves from His throne of din onto His throne of rachamim. So the first day of Rosh Hashana can feel a little bit more heavy. Second day of Rosh Hashana, Hashem is now sitting on His throne of, of lifnim mishuras hadin, He goes above the din. So the second day of Rosh Hashana, awesome day, lots of singing and dancing. But this year, the dina kashya, the hard judgment, or mishpat, is canceled because it's Shabbat. You can't have din on Shabbat. And then we just got the second day, which is good. So on the first day there's no din at all, and the second day it's compassionate judgment. What an, oh this is going to be the best year of our individual and collective lives as Jewish people. It's going to be, how, I can't even imagine how good it would, I can't believe it. Crazy. Hashem melech. אין בכלל מציאות של דינים. On Shabbat, there is no, no such thing as din. There's no din on Shabbat. Done. וממילא אין צריכים לשופר להמתיקם. Therefore, we don't need to blow the shofar to sweeten the judgment, because there is no judgment. Everyone's freaking out. When you can't, when you can't blow the shofar on Shabbat, then you can't scare the Satan away, and then blah blah blah, Satan's not around, man. You know, he's gone. He can't come into Shabbat. He can't be there. So I don't need to blow the, the idea of blowing the shofar to make it better judgment doesn't apply on Shabbat, I don't need it for that. So all that the shofar is, is for on Shabbat, נמצא שבראש השנה שחל בשבת עיקר ענין השופר הוא רק הכתרת המלוכה. The only reason we're blind, blowing the shofar is to crown the King. Nothing to do with dinim. There's no din. I want, I think you've got to be very, very clear on this. If you're going into Yom Hadin all, \"Uh-oh,\" there is no din. It's just not in, you're not there. You went in and you're standing and you think you're in the courtroom and you're very scared, but it's actually the makolet, and it's like, you're just wrong. So you can't be, there's no din. Yes? Pardon? Yeah, you don't need to do that. You can't do this, but we said, I made up a halacha, your feet have to leave the floor. So you're going to be in your ezras nashim with your little The other difference between men and women is women daven with their siddur on their face. It's like, how do you do that? I can't see, how can you see the words? So you'll, you'll be a woman doing your siddur in your face, davening, and then you'll go, you'll go like this. Just do that. Just get both feet off the floor for one second, please do that. And what you're going to do is you'll giggle. You'll giggle, and Hashem will be like, \"You're cute.\" Fair? I made a halacha, it's not in the Shulchan Aruch. Is it the Shulchan Aruch de-Rav DovBer? The Shulchan Aruch the RaDaB, Rabbeinu DovBer, that everyone, man, woman, old, young, two feet off the floor, even for one second, on Rosh Hashanah. And that that's what you're being judged on. And if you don't do it on the first day, do it on the second day. Yes. Do you levitate? No. Well, all the time. I'm waiting for the time when you're on your chair and you just take off. Be'ezras Hashem. Okay, דהכל יכול להתקיים בשבת קודש על ידי זכרון תרועה בלבד. So the remembering the the what the shofar is doing on Shabbat is just crowning the King, and you can do that without blowing the shofar. You can just talk about the all the davening is malchos and shofros and zichronos. Malchos That's what it is. That's what all the davening is. I'm just remembering. And it's called Yom HaZikaron because I'm just remembering the whole time. Remember again and again and again. This would this would be a great Rosh Hashanah if you're sitting in shul and you're like looking at your machzor and they're like, there's eight billion words in here. I can't do this. That you don't even look at it. You just close your eyes and you just keep remembering that there's a new King who loves you, and you want a relationship. Just do that. That's remember. Just keep remembering. Remember. Every time you feel bored or tired, just use that as a catalyst to remember that there's a King and He loves you. Brilliant. כי בשבת מחשבה ודיבור הם כמעשה, because on Shabbat, the machshava and the dibbur, what you're saying in the words of the tefillah, and the intentions, the kavana that you're having, they are like the deed itself. You're doing the deed. Remember, it says, often in the navi especially, Hashem says, \"I don't want your sacrifices, I don't want your mitzvot. They really stink to Me, because it was never about the physical action. The physical action is only there to create a relationship. So, if you're doing the physical action, but that's not creating love and ahavah and yirah and simchah and deveikus, then why why are you killing an animal and sprinkling its blood, you weirdos?\" That's what Hashem thinks. \"If there's no Why am I doing it? To get rid of my animalistic side that got in the way, and the blood is the nefesh, and the nefesh represents the ratzon, and what do I really want in my life? If you're doing these things, but without intention to move towards Hashem in relationship, then literally, you are just putting black boxes on your head and your arm, and that is actually weird.\" And Hashem Himself says that. He's like, \"You guys are weird. Why do you do that?\" Because the action without the relationship is pointless. But what he's saying now is, you can still have the relationship without the action. You don't need the action as long as you remember the The action is just a mindfulness tool to remember the relationship. So, zichron teruah is I'm really remembering the relationship without actually having to blow. Uchmo shematzinu bakasov, it says, ושמרו בני ישראל לעשות את השבת אף שאין בשבת מצוות מעשיות וכל מצוותיה במחשבה ודיבור. It says, and this is an amazing thing. What's the mitzvah of Shabbat? To rest. What's the actual mitzvah we do on On Rosh Hashanah, you blow the shofar, and on Yom Kippur, you fast, and on Succos, you sit in a succah and shake your lulav and esrog, and on Chanukah, you light Chanukah candles, and on Purim, you do matanos la'evyonim, and on Pesach, you eat matzah. What's the mitzvah of Shabbat? To rest. Menucha. But what's the actual bepo'el mitzvah we do on Shabbat? There isn't one. Did you ever chap that? I think that's amazing. There's no mitzvah on Shabbat. To get close to Hashem. No, no. I get close to Hashem all the time. All mitzvot More so on Shabbat. So, really, I'll tell you what it is. Mitzvah comes from the word tzavta, which means connection, and so we do mitzvot to connect to Hashem. Shabbat, we're so intrinsically connected to Hashem, you don't need to do a mitzvah. We're there. We're we're snuggling. We're snuggling. We're there. Shabbat is snug- snuggling Hashem. In my Reform shul, for the kids' service, instead of Kabbalat Shabbat, it it was called Cuddle Up Shabbat. I think that's very deep and profound. Shabbat is when you just cuddle up with Hashem. You just go cuddle up on the on the couch with Hashem. He's like, \"It's nice.\" So, you're so close to Hashem, where you don't need to do a mitzvah. That's the same as Shemini Atzeres and Shavuos. There's no mitzvah on Shavuos. The day we receive the mitzvot, Shavuos, there's no mitzvah. No, cheesecake isn't a mitzvah. There's no mitzvah, because you don't need a mitzvah. You're so close at that point. So once we're in Shabbat, why do you need to blow the shofar at all? We don't need extra anything because we're there. We already arrived. We've arrived. ובשבת על ידי מה הוא? And how do we do it? On Shabbat? באמירת מלכיות זכרונות ושופרות. Through the davening. Zichron, zichron teruah, but it means that we should pay a little bit more attention in our davening. Not to say all the words, but just to mean our words. Also important, everyone should have their machzor out already. Don't wait till Erev Rosh Hashanah to pull it out, and underline a few things, because you can't have kavana for the whole thing, so underline a few really important psukim, words, that you're you'll you'll say, \"Just for at least this one, I'm really going to tap into this. This is what I'm really here for this day.\" ויש לומר זהו הרמז בראשי תיבות תקעו בחדש שופר בכסה די שהוא בשבת. And this is what it means when we say that the first letters of this pasuk, which speaks about the shofar, spell out Shabbat. דענין ראשי תיבות מרומז על כח הנעלם שאינו בפועל. Because the rashei teivos, the first letters of a word, are just hinting to something. It's a hint. You're not actually doing it, you're just hinting to it. So where hinting is higher in a way. It's cute. Rosh Hashanah is all about hinting. We got these simanim. Friday night simanim, also we should do a whole class about what the simanim are all about. Friday night, Rosh Hashanah, it's going to be a Sheva Brachos as well, we're hosting a Sheva Brachos, oh I get the... So, hinting is even a cuter part of a relationship. I I smile at my wife, guests come, someone says something. This is what I do with my daughter. When people come to us, since she was born, she very pretty, 'cause my wife's very pretty, and people say, \"You're so pretty,\" to my daughter, and I said to hers, \"It's very bad to grow up thinking that I'm valued because I'm pretty. That's disgusting.\" So I said to her, \"What's more important than pretty being pretty? Being kind,\" she said. So I said, \"Yeah, being kind is more important than pretty, and also the prettiest people in the world aren't the happiest people with the best marriages, apart from my wife. But the kindest people are the happiest people with the best marriage.\" So now, when anyone comes to us for Shabbat, and stay says to my daughter, \"You're so pretty,\" she says to them, \"Baruch Hashem,\" and then she looks at me. And we're like, so that remez, that communication is, she knows, she's like, \"Baruch Hashem.\" She doesn't say, \"No, no.\" \"Baruch Hashem.\" She is pretty, but we have this little, me and my daughter. We got me and my daughter, we're very close. So that's what rashei teivos are, it's just a little It's Shabbat, it doesn't need to be out there, doesn't need to be showy-offy. It's just present. So when we blow the shofar, it's a bit showy-offy, can be, but on Shabbat, we just we just hint to it. We just say that between me and you, Hashem, I know. And Hashem says, \"I know. I know you'd do it if you could.\" וכח הנעלם של תקיעת שופר מתקיים בשבת הוא עוד במדריגה יותר עילאית מאשר על ידי תקיעת שופר ביום של חול. So the little hinting to blowing the shofar on Shabbat is a much higher level than actually blowing the shofar, 'cause there's more yearning, there's more secret, there's more We know, we got me and Hashem, we got this little secret. We don't need to to blast it out there, it's our little secret. כיון דנכלל בזה שלימות עבודה על ידי מדת אהבה ויראה כאחד. Because what this actually does is it brings together these two wings of a dove, called ahavah and yirah. There's ahavah and yirah. So, well, we'll read it together. What's the time? I got a lot Oh no. Ahavah and yirah. Ahavah and yirah. Love and awe. Love and reverence, love and awe, love and reverence. So it says here, ahavah and yirah, we're bringing them together. That Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur are called the Yom Noraim, comes from the word yirah. They're the days of yirah, which means awe. They're called the Days of Awe. Isn't there a siddur in England called The Days of Awe? That's a machzor. No, I should think Anyway, they're not called the days of ahavah. They're called the days of awe. They're called the days of yirah. And we really say that Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur are teshuva b'yirah. There's a yirah, there's a din, there is a yirah, there's a God, there's a din, and then Sukkos is teshuva b'ahavah. So we say, you're getting engaged on Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur is the mikvah in time, and then and then Sukkos is the chuppah, the seven days, the Sheva Brachos. So Sukkos is all about ahavah, Rosh Hashanah and the Aseres Yemei teshuva and Yom Kippur are all about yirah. The shofar, inyana d'yirah, shofar is is to arouse yirah. As it says, כדכתיב אם יתקע שופר בעיר ועם לא יחרדו, can you blow the shofar, and people don't tremble? Once again, I don't think it's tremble in fear, it's just like, whoa, very excited. This is an amazing, it's a very special time, it's a very awesome time. Awesome. That's actually the best ever use of the word awesome. It's awesome. Not like, it's awesome, man. It's so awesome. No, it's like awesome. It's awesome. Awesome, man. וקול שופר חזק מאוד ויחרד כל העם. And it also says that the sound of the shofar was strong and everyone was like so the shofar and Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur is all about this amazing, intense yirah, joy, excitement, amazing. ושבת היא מידת אהבה. But Shabbat is all about ahavah. And in my siddur, Sefard, in Shabbat, it just throws in the word ahavah all the time. Does anyone have that? Did it I think it does in Ashkenazi one as well, no? If you could see Rosh Chodesh on Shabbat or this on, as soon as Shabbat like be'ahavah, there's ahavah, it's all over the place. And then check out your siddur. In the brackets, ahavah, I'm like, be'ahavah! Whenever I say the word ahavah in davening, I'm like be'ahavah, beratzon, besimchah. So, only on ראש השנה שחל בשבת do you get both, yirah and ahavah together. And that's the highest, because you can't fly with only one wing. You can't fly with only one wing. You have to have ahavah and yirah. I can't just love my wife, but not respect her. That won't be a healthy relationship. But I can't respect her, but not love her. That's not, you have to have ahavah and yirah together. So on a normal Rosh Hashanah, is you got yirah, but lacking maybe a bit of ahavah. On a normal Shabbat, you got ahavah, lacking a bit of yirah. Shabbat, Rosh Hashanah, ahavah and yirah together. That's why this is a new halacha, you've got to stand in shul and wave your arms like this, like an eagle, like I can do that under my tallis, no one sees. You could go do that in the ezras nashim. You could do it very small, you could be like and then jump, you're going to be like Everyone's going to be like, \"What's happened to her? She gone crazy.\" She's a Radabnik chassid. Rabbeinu Dov Ber. Radab-. She's a Radabniker chassid. Ahavah and yirah. So you can only get that on Shabbat. I'm telling you, ראש השנה שחל בשבת is mamesh the highest day of the year. You can't get higher than this. It's pashet the highest day of the year. We're about to go, what is it, Monday? Five days from now, you're going to be standing in the highest place you'll ever stand in your whole life. And obviously until Yom Kippur, which is the highest. Until Sukkos, which is actually the highest. Until Cheshvan, which is the greatest month of the year. Until Chanukah. It just gets higher and higher. Yasher koach. There we go. There's a lot more, but actually did very well today, in terms of I usually just write read one line and then freak out. I actually read a few things. Be'ezras Hashem, we should all be zocheh to tap into ahavah and yirah besimchah. A Shabbat! I don't know why they actually let me speak to you...
