a company of 1. Here are

Intro:

your hosts, Joe Rando and Carly Rees.

Carly Reis:

Welcome, everybody, to the 1 Person Business podcast. I'm one of your hosts, Carly Rees.

Joe Rando:

And I'm your other host, Joe Rando. And yes, that's actually my name.

Carly Reis:

That did fool me at first.

Joe Rando:

Well, we're really glad you're tuning in. Regardless of whether you call yourself a solopreneur, freelancer, 1 person show, contractor, or whatever name you've come up with, if you're flying solo in the business world, you've come to the right place.

Carly Reis:

Going it alone in business is both exciting and terrifying, but just because you're venturing out independently doesn't mean you have to feel isolated, which is where this podcast comes in.

Joe Rando:

We release 2 shows a week, 1 on Mondays and 1 on Thursdays. On Mondays, we'll interview experts who can help you navigate the solo business world. These people will give advice on landing clients, setting up operations processes, navigating those dreaded taxes, and so on.

Carly Reis:

On Thursdays, we'll interview people just like you who are trying to navigate this whole one person business thing. We'll ask about their biggest failures, their moments, what motivates them when they're feeling isolated, and a bunch of other questions to reinforce that you are not actually doing this

Joe Rando:

alone. So who are we and why should you trust us? Well, I'm a serial entrepreneur. I've started successful businesses in commercial real estate as well as technology. I've also failed a few times and would love to help other people avoid that pain.

Joe Rando:

I've got decades of experience and can identify with the experts that we have on the show.

Carly Reis:

And I can identify with solopreneurs and freelancers. More than half of my career as a marketer has been spent as an independent contractor, so I definitely understand the highs and lows of what this world entails.

Joe Rando:

Carly and I met serendipitously back in 2016 when she managed some of the marketing for one of my businesses. Now we work together at Lifestar, the company who is putting on this very podcast.

Carly Reis:

Joe and I share similar opinions, but bring very different backgrounds and perspectives to the table.

Joe Rando:

Okay, Carly. We may have bored them with that section. So let's share 3 fun facts about us personally to wrap this up. Do you wanna go first?

Carly Reis:

Sure. Okay. I used to do stand up comedy. My family and I traveled around the country in an RV for over a year. And true story, my great grandpa introduced the world to the Reuben sandwich.

Carly Reis:

You?

Joe Rando:

Okay. During my late teens and early twenties, I was an aspiring rock star with the biggest hair you've ever seen. I'm a geek at heart with a physics degree, and my wife and 3 daughters all have backgrounds in the sciences. And we argue about science stuff over dinner sometimes. And this one's embarrassing.

Joe Rando:

I had a conversation with Mick Jagger in a club in London once, but I didn't know it was him.

Carly Reis:

Okay. I'm definitely gonna have to hear that full story later. But that's us in a nutshell. Before we sign off, we just want you to know that we want the show to be a two way street. So we'd love to hear your feedback as well as what types of information you want to hear on the show in the future.
