Micra – Sunday
Sitcom – Bug In Lamplight

PART 1 FACTS
El Michels Affair – Duel of the Iron Mics
- Today we mark the release of the Killer Bees, as The Wu Tang Clan put out their seminal debut Enter the 36 Chambers on this date in 1993.
- In 1993, East Coast hip-hop is in a slump. With the emergence of seminal albums by West Coast rappers like Dr. Dre and Ice Cube, the genre once dominated by Def Jam Records' New York sound has gone in another direction, giving birth to gangsta rap and G-funk.
- Enter the Wu-Tang. These nine MCs from New York alter the hip-hop universe and spark the East Coast Renaissance.
- And to mark the occasion and show the influence, that was the El Michels Affair aka Leon Michels with a tune from Enter The 37th Chamber, the very skilled drummer instrumental take on the album.
fika feat Bambie – Coffee & Clouds
- The coffee & clouds EP is just out as of last week. For those not familiar, fika is a duo consisting of two guys named Sam & Al who hail from Sarf London.
- Stemming from a two-day session between fika, Bambie and Fabich, the “Coffee & Clouds” EP explores “the peaks and troughs of toxic feelings”, looking at the beauty and ugliness of love, stemming from a cathartic emotional outpouring for Bambie.
Micra – Sunday
- The Sydney-based duo are back with this latest single. We played their last single a few weeks ago, but for those lacking in memory, they are Aussie-Bulgarian duo of Robbie Cain and Ivana Kafedijska.
- Their debut EP drops on December 2 and two others planned after that, which they say will each show a different side of the band & their concept.
Sitcom – Bug In Lamplight
- This is the solo project of Jake Lazovick, who’s based in Philadelphia.
- Interesting project as this guy REALLY pushes the audio boundaries, especially in that tune, with it’s wild, exploding junglist rhythm at the end that almost overloads the senses.
- He’s embarking on a West Coast swing of dates in SF, Sacramento & Seattle in December, so keep an eye out if you’re local in those spots.
Blonder – Ice Cream Girl
- File this one along with the previous tune under Fun With Google. This is the project of Constantine Anastakis, who hails from Long Island and only learned Ableton & how to play guitar after he graduated from school.
- Really interesting meld in his sound of synth pop & classic post-punk, with this tune being more on the latter side for sure.
Oscar Scheller – Weirdo
- The British artist explained about this tune, “‘Weirdo’ is about the unhealthy behaviour of being attracted to emotionally unavailable people, and kind of just laughing at myself because it’s a habit I’m constantly trying to break.”
- Scheller is also a fantastic producer, racking up credits for Rina Sawayama‘s ‘Tokyo Love Hotel’, Arlo Parks‘ ‘George’, and Ashnikko‘s ‘Stupid’.
- This tune is weird, obviously…and not for everybody, but I kinda dug it so we’ll end part one getting’ weird!

PART 2 SONGS
Charlotte Adigéry & Bolis Pupul - Blenda
Lelli - FOMO
Alex Siegel - Mabery Road
Valley Palace – Patch
Telemonster - Your Life Begins Today
Ellie Bleach - Doing Really Well Thanks
PART 2 FACTS
Charlotte Adigéry Bolis Pupul – Blenda
- We started off Part 2 with some real fire. I am totally in love with that song.
- Charlotte Adigery and Bolis Pupul are a Belgium-based duo and they have just announced their debut album. The album will be called “Tropical Dancer” and it is set to drop on March 4 next year, via Deewee, the label run by Soulwax. Soulwax also co-wrote and co-produced this new “Blenda” track.
- As you might of guessed by the lyrics, the song is about race. Charlotte is Caribbean-Belgian and the track is about Charlotte’s immigrant experience in Belgium.
Lelli - FOMO _ Kitsuné Musique
- Lelli is a London-based duo comprised of Thea and James. Their latest cut, “FOMO” comes to us via Kitsune Musique.
- What a fantastic track. Lelli makes some really cool music. I feel like Thea’s vocals and lyrics lean into the mainstream world while James’ production style leans pretty hard into the experimental realm.
- Together, it all just sounds so good. Great stuff from this London duo.
Alex Siegel - Mabery Road
- Alex Siegel is an indie artist from Santa Monica, California. He’s been on our show a couple of times already and he never really disappoints.
- The song is about a real road named Mabery Road. It is the side street where he used to ride his bike down, on the way to the beach to catch sunsets.
- Alex is truly a man of culture. When he’s not making music, he is working on his culinary skills and has recently started working on his first short film.
Valley Palace – Patch
- Valley Palace is the moniker of Nathan Taylor. He recently joined the roster of Run For Cover Records and he is from Fresno, California.
- His new cut, “Patch” is a very catchy dream pop sort of tune. It definitely has that bedroom pop sound to it.
- He’s pretty new on the scene, but I like his sound a lot so I’ll be on the lookout for more from Vallay Palace.
Telemonster - Your Life Begins Today
- Telemonster is a quintet from Chattanooga, USA. The band is fronted by Ben Vanderhart. A while back he quit his corporate job to create his own record label, Yellow Racket Records.
- In the process, he worked as a farm hand, a job stuffing envelopes, and also a job sending emails for a trucking association. Pretty random stuff but now his dreams of creating a label are now a reality.
- Telemonster’s newest track, “Your Life Begins Today” is all about heartache and hardship, and judging by Ben’s story, I’m sure he is well-versed on those topics.
Ellie Bleach - Doing Really Well Thanks
- This song has some really great lyrics. I’ve got to give it up to Ellie Bleach for writing such a clever, and rather cutting track. Really good stuff.
- Ellie Bleach is from London and she wrote this song about the time where she had to return to her parents’ suburban house for a few months.
- She was looking for a job and all that stuff, and I guess she was just kind of sick of how the whole process tends to be very superficial. Anyway, I’m really feeling this one, it is definitely one of my faves on tonight’s playlist.
PART 3 SONGS
Century Egg - Moving On
Grand Drifter - Diary of Sorts
Kai Straw - Live Good
LUXXURY - Just Like It Was Before
VC Pines - Be Honest
El Train - Feeling Blue (Feat Byulah & Jackson Mathod)

PART 3 FACTS
Century Egg - Moving On
- Century Egg is a Canadian quartet from Halifax. This track comes to us via Forward Music Group and it is the first half of a double A-side release. The second half is scheduled for release later this month.
- This song is about trying to detach yourself from your past and letting go of the trauma that is holding you back.
- Musically, I like this one a lot. It’s like a tornado of sound, but what I really liked were the vocal harmonies in the chorus. I thought they were simple, yet very interesting to listen to. Very cool stuff from this band from Halifax.
Grand Drifter - Diary of Sorts
- Grand Drifter is the moniker of Italian indie-pop artist Andrea Calv. He says on his profile that Grand Drifter is sometimes a band, and sometimes just him.
- I like this song a lot. There’s definitely a nostalgic touch to the music, I think it’s that harmonica playing in the background, it’s got that folk music feel to it that I like.
- Not much info about Andrea online but judging by his other songs, I can say that he definitely knows how to write clear and straightforward songs. It’s a lot harder to do that it sounds.
Kai Straw - Live Good
- This track caught my ear right away because of Kai Straw’s singing vocals at the start of the song. I’m definitely dating myself here but his vocals reminded me a lot of the lead singer of Counting Crows. It’s that like powerful but shaky voice, I think it sounds great.
- Kai Straw is from San Francisco and this song just kept surprising me. There are some bass drops in it and also so rapping.
- Admittedly, it’s not my usual cup of tea, but I kind of had a rough week and this song kind of just boosted my mood... it’s all about living good so I’m all for that notion for sure.
LUXXURY - Just Like It Was Before
- We are gonna keep those good vibes flowing with LUXXURY’s new disco infused tune, “Just Like It Was Before”, which comes to us via Boogie Angst.
- LUXXURY is the moniker of LA-born Blake Robin... Here we go again with the two first names thing. You can never trust these people.
- Joking aside, this song is about the perils of hindsight in the digital age. I love how she keeps singing the line, “I’m so sick of staring at my phone”.
VC Pines - Be Honest
- VC Pines is an artist from London and I’m really feeling this new track. It is funky, uplifting, and just full of great sounds.
- This has been a pretty quiet year for VC Pines as “Be Honest” is just his second single of the year so far.
- He says that this song is about his personal mental health struggles and those around him, especially during the pandemic times. Musically, the track is very layered and those brass instruments do a great job of leading the way. Really solid tune from VC Pines.
El Train - Feeling Blue (Feat Byulah & Jackson Mathod)
- We got a really smooth one to close out quarter 3 of tonight’s gig. El Train is a Brighton-born producer. This track features the trumpet stylings of Jackson Mathod and the sultry vocals of Byulah.
- This track is taken from El Train’s recently released new album, “And Then We Woke Up”.
- The project is meant to encapsulate the feeling of returning to some sort of normality after what feels like an extended period of hibernation.
PART 4 SONGS
Sarpa Salpa - Your House
26fix - A Pickle
Crystal Cities - Liebling Girl
Midi Memory - Gone (feat CD Ghost)
Augustine - Sweet Love
Juno Francis - Hey You Goodbye Me
PART 4 FACTS
Sarpa Salpa - Your House
- Sarpa Salpa is a five-piece indie band from Northhampton, England. They had a breakout year in 2019 and last year they released their debut EP, “Say Something", which was very warmly received by all the BBC music outlets.
- About their new song, they say that the subject can be summed up in one statement, “I’ve lost all sense of home in your house”.
- The band has a bunch of tour dates schedule from now until February and they are expected to release a new EP in the spring, so keep an eye out for that.
26fix - A Pickle
- 26fix is the very cool moniker of Erika Goodwin. She is from the US and “A Pickle” is her debut release. Not much info about her yet but I think this tune is a great first offering.
- Pretty interesting idea behind this song as well. She says that this song will be part of a concept album that will be released next year.
- This song is from one of the character’s perspectives in the story, and the character happens to be a pickle. I thought that was pretty funny.
Crystal Cities - Liebling Girl
- Crystal Cities is an alt-dream rock band based in Sydney. “Liebling Girl” is their tenth and final single to be released from the band’s sophomore album, “Hold Me Close Hold Me Tight”.
- If you are wondering about the title of the song, “Liebling” is the German word for darling.
- Band leader Geoff Rana says that the song is the story of how he met his wife. He was going to move in with two friends when one of them backed out and he needed a third housemate to help pay the rent. A young German girl on a working holiday ended up moving into the house, and a few months later, she also moved into Geoff’s heart.
- How’s that for a love story liebling Danno?
Midi Memory - Gone (feat CD Ghost)
- Midi Memory is the solo project of Cathedral Bells’ Matt Messore. “Gone” is his latest single and it comes via the mighty Spirit Goth. Spirit Goth is such a cool label, they never really disappoint with their releases.
- Anyway, this track features CD Ghost, who provides the many layers of synths for this track. Very cool stuff.
Augustine - Sweet Love
- Augustine just released his highly anticipated debut album recently via TURTLENEK. The album is called “Weeks Above the Earth”, and of course, the song we are playing tonight, “Sweet Love” is taken from that album.
- Augustine is from Sweden and he is a singer-songwriter and producer. The album is very solid. It is full of catchy soundscapes and his falsetto vocals are pretty dope. Definitely worthy of a spin so go and check that album out.
Juno Francis - Hey You Goodbye Me
- We are going to stay in Sweden for the ending of the show, with a new track from Juno Francis. Juno Francis is a duo and their music is super cool.
- It has to be mentioned, the visuals that go along with their music is amazing. It’s all like neo-noir, very cinematic, it all just looks so good.
- This track reminds me of ABBA for some reason, just updated and way cooler. Anyway, “Hey You Goodbye Me” is how we will say goodbye to you, have a great night everyone.
