Good morning.

And welcome to morning cereal

Okay, good morning and welcome to Monday.

We're back after being off all last week

and it's really good to be back.

It's also hard to believe

that we're in the last full week

of March and it's flying by.

And if you've been

watching March Madness,

hopefully it hasn't

been as maddening for you

as it has for me.

My team was out in the first round,

completely underachieving

what's expected from that program.

And speaking of achieving,

today is International Day for Achievers.

It's celebrating those

who have made positive contributions to

their chosen fields.

That's great,

probably doesn't include me.

So I'll just have to

participate in the fact

that it's also National Cocktail Day.

That I qualify for and I participate in.

My go-to cocktail, it's

the classic old fashioned.

Well, today's quote is

from singer Rick Astley.

He's gonna jumpstart our day

in a positive direction with his quote.

And he said, quote,

"I'm a person who

tries not to have regrets."

And this quote is in line with the name

of my podcast channel.

It's One Life, Live It.

We only get one chance at this

and you don't wanna go to

your grave with regrets.

Get out there and do it, live this life.

Okay, today's news facts and birthdays

are from March 24th.

Starting with the OG

magician, Harry Houdini.

He was born on this date in 1874.

Then you probably remember back in 1989,

that's when the Exxon Valdez

Alaskan oil spill happened.

That spilled some 11

million gallons of oil

and it created one of

the largest oil spills

in US history up to that time.

Then in 2020, Japan

postponed the Tokyo 2020 Olympics

and the Paralympic Games

until the summer of 2021

because of the global COVID-19 pandemic.

Well, happy birthday.

Today's your birthday.

You share a birthday with

actress Jessica Chastain.

She's 48.

One of my favorite

comedians, Peyton Manning,

he's 49 today.

Actor Jim Parsons

from the Big Bang Theory,

he's 52 today.

Wrestler, The Undertaker, he's 60.

And the former Microsoft CEO, Steve

Ballmer, he's 69 today.

Well, back in 1999, the

number one movie on this date

was Analyze This with

Robert De Niro and Billy Crystal.

It's about a mob boss that ends up going

to see a psychiatrist.

Probably related on

the somewhat true story

or an HBO series.

And the number one

song on this date in 1988

was Never Gonna Give

You Up by Rick Astley.

Now this is a classic feel good song

and it's also verbatim my

wedding vows to my wife.

Google things that

Rick Astley will never do

and you'll understand.

Well, even better than

that are Rick's dance moves.

The dance moves are

historically great in the worst way.

I think Rick's dance moves

may have set the foundation

for the Carlton.

Look those up too while you're on Google.

Well, here's a funny fact.

You'll remember that the

fashion around that time,

back in the early 90s, late 80s,

the fashion around that

time was to roll up the sleeves

of your suit jackets.

Well, apparently there

was a two hour argument

when shooting the music video,

whether to roll or not to roll.

I say roll them up.

Shoot, we rolled our

pants at that time too.

Very cool of us.

Well, let's get this

week off to a great start

on this Monday with a

little self-improvement

with my takeaways from

the most recent chapter

in Dale Carnegie's,

how to win friends and influence people.

And in this chapter entitled,

"Let the Other Person Save Face,"

Carnegie reminds the reader

just how vitally

important this concept is

because there's often

negative consequences

if we injure the other person's pride.

Carnegie again suggests slowing down

and taking the time to prepare for

delivering tough news.

We should consider the

other person's perspective.

We should be considering their attitude

such that even though

we still might be having

a difficult conversations

like letting an employee go

or finding fault in how

someone did something,

by letting them save face,

allowing them to keep

their dignity intact,

we will alleviate the

sting of that moment

and likely any

residual sting moving forward.

Carnegie says, "Even if we are right

and the other person is definitely wrong,

we only destroy ego by

causing someone to lose face."

And Carnegie quotes author Antone saying,

"I have no right to say or do anything

that diminishes a man in his own eyes.

What matters is not what I think of him,

but what he thinks of himself.

Hurting a man in his dignity is a crime."

Well, here it is.

Carnegie's principle number five

is let the other person save face.

Okay, here's an oldie but a goodie.

Slow and steady wins the race.
