Merriam-Webster’s dictionary defines “side by side” as the state “of existing beside one another” and “of being in the same place, time, or circumstance." What does it mean for rural and urban communities to live side by side? Join University of Minnesota Extension staff as we explore the interdependent relationship of rural and urban spaces and why this necessary and complex relationship matters.
We ain't got a barrel of money. Maybe we're ragged and funny, but we'll travel along singing a song side by side.
Ellen Wolter:Hi, Side by Side listeners. It's Ellen here, and I hope you enjoyed season two of the podcast and have continued to discover new insights about how rural urban and suburban places are connected and ways that folks in Minnesota and across the country are working to discover and foster those connections. I know it is a pain to complete surveys, but in extension, we don't rely on advertising or sponsorships to support our programming. We rely on feedback from participants in our programs or, in this case, listeners of the podcast to share whether and how a program has had value for you, your work, or your community. We then share the value of our work as told by you to those who fund us, public stakeholders, as well as private funders who support our work and want to understand its impact.
Ellen Wolter:We are in new territory with evaluating podcasts at Extension. So if you want to support us and this podcast and have found the content valuable or if you have any feedback at all to share, I encourage you to take the time to complete our anonymous extremely short and sweet survey, which will take about five minutes to complete. And I get it. No one likes to complete surveys. So if it's easier, you can also share your feedback via a link to a virtual voice mail where you can record an anonymous voice memo and send it over to us.
Ellen Wolter:You can find the link to the survey and to the voice memo in the show notes. Thanks so much for listening, and we'll see you back here in season three in 2026.
Music (Jim Griswold):When they've all had their quarrels and party, we'll be the same as we started, just to travel along, singing a song side by side.
