Speaker 2:

Hello and welcome to another episode of the floating away podcast. Today we're focusing on the transformative experience of floating. Now I'm here with Renee Roland to dive into the serene world of floating in float tank. Let's float away from the daily grind and into relaxation and some pretty cool benefits that you may not have thought about. Renee, welcome to the floating away podcast.

Speaker 1:

Thanks, Adam. Nice to be here.

Speaker 2:

Excellent. Now for someone who's never heard of floating before, doesn't know what it is, can you briefly explain to me what floating in a float room tub involves and and how it works?

Speaker 1:

It's all about deep relaxation. So people come in, they don't need anything. It's a seamless experience. You're lying back in, 400 to 600 kilograms of pure Epsom salts, that gives you the zero gravity. And then we also include sensory deprivation, so that's also really good to shut down the brain and give yourself a real deep rest.

Speaker 2:

So that means it's totally dark. There's talk to me, what is, sensory deprivation?

Speaker 1:

So it's a complete silence, complete darkness. Taking all your senses away. What we're trying to do is everyone is overstimulated now, so we actually need to give the brain a rest. It is a muscle, it needs a rest. And therefore, then you can restimulate the brain, and it can come up with, really good ways of new ideas and ways to solve problems.

Speaker 2:

Sounds fantastic. What what are some of the benefits of afloat therapy?

Speaker 1:

There's two sides to throat float therapy. You do have your magnesium sulfate, so that's really good for your muscles, pain relief, cramping, really good for athletes, just good for anybody in general for your muscles and getting that magnesium in.

Speaker 2:

Mhmm.

Speaker 1:

And then the other side is shutting that brain down. So getting space, taking yourself away from everything, and just giving yourself 45 minutes to an hour of complete nothingness. And then that can actually gain you about 4 to 5 hours sleep on top of the other benefits. Yeah.

Speaker 2:

Okay. Is it something you just do once or are there benefits to doing it multiple times? Tell me what how long does a session go for and how many should you have?

Speaker 1:

Okay. So they're an hour at the minimum. Some people can choose shorter ones, but the regular one is an hour. We suggest you do 3, and that's a pretty standard suggestion for any therapy out there. Try 3.

Speaker 1:

The reason why we do 3 is the first time, yes, your body's just discovering zero gravity, and it's just discovering complete silence and darkness. So it you may or may not have the experience you want the first time, but you'll feel amazing. 2nd time your stress levels will lower even further. So when you give your nervous system a rest, your stress levels keep coming down. And so if you do 3 within 2 weeks, you can lower it right down to being in a space where you can start to manage that stress level.

Speaker 2:

I can see with an hour of that total relaxation with not like like you said, nothingness would just be amazing for reducing stress and anxiety.

Speaker 1:

Absolutely. It's it's just a matter of

Speaker 2:

Can anyone do this? Are there any restrictions at kids, adult, older people?

Speaker 1:

Look, we firstly thought that, yes, under say 16, maybe not necessary, but we've now had kids as low as 6. They have to get consent with their parents.

Speaker 2:

Of course.

Speaker 1:

But we found that those kids, once you explain what to do, they absolutely love it. And some of them have had ADHD and different things like that, anxieties, and it's helped them.

Speaker 2:

Oh, fantastic.

Speaker 1:

So, yeah, we think it's between anywhere I would say the average 14 up to 80. But as I said

Speaker 2:

But this is for everyone.

Speaker 1:

It could be for everybody.

Speaker 2:

Excellent. Can with that sensory deprivation and being in a float room, can claustrophobia be an issue?

Speaker 1:

In some of the other float rooms or tanks or pods, yes. We have a lot of customers that come to us and instantly they think we've got a pod. So they'll say no, I'm claustrophobic. Once we show them our rooms and ours are very spacious, probably the biggest ones out there, they're happy to jump straight in. They truly jump straight in.

Speaker 2:

Fantastic. And you've said yours are a bigger what else sets your float rooms and the service you offer apart?

Speaker 1:

Look, from the moment you walk in our door, all the our team out, we call it the float family, will look after you from beginning to end. So we explain everything in really good detail. You get a little sweep of the premises before you jump in. We explain how it all works. Everything's available for you, but our rooms are the biggest rooms you can get in Queensland and in there's 3 like us in Australia, but they're all over the world.

Speaker 1:

They're spacious. They're all soundproof. All the Epsom salts comes is mined from Germany. It's the purest Epsom salt in the world, which gives you much it's much thicker and it's so that you don't have to add bromide or chlorine to it. So that's a benefit.

Speaker 1:

You're not lying back in poison. Yep. You're lying in pure Epsom salts. So

Speaker 2:

What effect do they have on the body?

Speaker 1:

The Epsom salts. Look, it goes straight through the skin and into the muscles. So the easiest way to ingest anything is through your skin. So instantly your muscles will start to relax, strengthen. It's really good for people that athletes, like, they like to like runners.

Speaker 1:

They like to do it either before a big run or after a big run. People like athletes, AFL players, they do it quite often because they know that it strengthens. The magnesium, as everyone knows, you need it for 300 parts of your body. Either way, this magnesium going through to your skin is helping you for many different parts, cramping, migraines. It's just it's endless.

Speaker 2:

Wow. So many benefits. What should someone expect to feel or or after their float?

Speaker 1:

Look all of if you we've got all these 5 star reviews and everybody has a different feeling. So we've got clouds being on a cloud, being in feathers, floating away, like seeing colors, going to transforming into another space, but the body will feel relaxed. You'll sleep very well that night and you'll feel like you've gained slightly you've taken all your fog away from your brain and you've gained some clarity.

Speaker 2:

Why do people feel so good after a float?

Speaker 1:

Look, I just think it's a perfect match of body and mind. I think this is one of the therapies out there that if you use this regularly or just even once a month, you can maintain your body and mind and brain perfectly.

Speaker 2:

Fantastic. If there's anyone listening out there now who's heard this and is considering giving a floater a try, what would you say to them?

Speaker 1:

If you don't go into the cave, how do you find the treasure? And so I believe that if you dive in, give it a go, and it may not be the first time you might not think, oh, that that that felt great. Give it 3. And after that, I guarantee you will notice a difference in

Speaker 2:

yourself. Benefits. Thank you, Renee, for giving us a sneak peek into the peaceful escape of floating in the float tank at floating away. Now for those yearning for relaxation and a mental reset, floating away awaits. Don't forget to check out their website, www.floatingaway.
