Like a master surveyor, Jesus gives us clear directions to find a fulfilling, purpose-filled relationship with Himself - a map to the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Charted is a daily devotional written by the junior class at Fountainview Academy (Class of 2019). Based on the book Steps to Christ, this book explores the path to the Originator and Provider of Genuine Joy. We don't have to be confused about the way. The certainty is in the journey: divinely Charted.
“The whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint;”… God desires to
heal us, to set us free. – Steps to Christ, pg. 43
Blobs of color swam before my eyes as I propped myself up
against a suitcase. Hundreds of people milled around me, black hair
bobbing with each step they took. My head throbbed with every foreign
word, and my heart pulsated abnormally fast. I tried to focus my watery
eyes on finding a dean who could help me—but it was no use.
“Brianna? Lauren? Stacey?” I called out tentatively, hoping
that one of them would hear me over the dull roar of Beijing’s airport.
Moments later, my group leader, Lauren, leaned over me, inquiring
what was wrong. Mumbling unintelligibly, I finally managed to convey
that I had a fever and felt awful. Rummaging through a first aid kit, she
found a bottle labeled “Ibuprofen.”
“Group five? Group five, we are ready to go through security!”
Concern was etched into Lauren’s face as she watched me stumble,
trying to keep up with the rest of our group. We both knew if my fever
wasn’t down before we reached the disease detectors, I might be
detained in China for days—even weeks.
With each step I took, a prayer flashed through my groggy
brain: Please, God, make my fever go down. Help me to get through
those gates. I want to fly back to Canada!
Soon, the fever detectors loomed before my blurry vision.
Every breath became a prayer. Just before I passed through the
thermal gates, my fever broke. God had just performed a miracle!
As I waited for the plane that would take my friends and me home, I
praised God for helping me get through the gates.
In the future, there will be another set of gates that I hope
to pass through. However, I must ask for God’s help to forsake my
sins so that I may be “clean” to enter into Heaven. He will remove the
sickness that Satan has put into my mind and help me enter through
the “detectors” without a single “beep.”
