Hello Rockstars and welcome to your next Walking This Way Challenge. In case you missed the first one, this is your fortnightly personal challenge. Something that I want you to try and squeeze into your day somehow. We're not talking about training for a triathlon here, this is about small wins that will, I promise, make you feel good about yourself. And the thing is, we can do them together, all of us.
Lise Thorne:So are you ready? Here we go with this week's rather festive challenge. Okay. So this week, and in fact for the next two weeks, I want you to make sure that you find a moment of calm amidst the Christmas chaos. Let's face it, with just a couple of weeks to go, this is the busy time.
Lise Thorne:Whether it's ferrying kids around to Christmas parties, shopping, getting presents, wrapping, finding time to go to or organise Christmas parties yourself, thinking about food for the big day, stressing out about relatives coming to stay, planning a road trip around the country to see family, trying your best to make magical memories while avoiding the temptation to crack open the Christmas booze early. It's a full on time of year, which is why it's so important that you make time for yourself. Moments of calm when you can shut out the outside world, ignore the demands from your kids and the rest of the family, and just focus on yourself. And that's not as easy as it sounds. You might feel that there's simply no time.
Lise Thorne:You might even feel guilty for taking the time, but it's so important that you do it. If you're relaxed, destressed, calm, you're much less likely to become overwhelmed by Christmas and all that comes with it. So what can you do? Here's a list of my suggestions. Take a long bath.
Lise Thorne:Take a long walk. Actually read that book that you've been trying to read all year. Listen to the radio. Go for a swim or a gentle run. Binge a series of Netflix.
Lise Thorne:Knit or crochet if that's your thing. Paint, draw, sketch, doodle, sit in a quiet room and listen to an old album that you love, or any other small, quiet, calm activity that you would enjoy doing. Whatever you choose to do, make sure it's something that is just for you. Taking half an hour to do those jobs around the house that you've been putting off isn't self care. It's work.
Lise Thorne:And this is permission from me to be totally selfish for once and make sure that you find the calm in Christmas. So what do you think? Can you actually do it? I'm here rooting for you, and I can't wait to hear how you got on. Send me a voice message to let me know.
Lise Thorne:All the details are in the show notes. A fortnight ago, I set you a challenge to move every day, a little more than you usually do, and loads of you got in touch to tell me how it went. Here's just a few messages from listeners. Inspired by you, I did a lovely early dog walk this morning and added some extra minutes on. I love it because that's all it is.
Lise Thorne:That's all it takes. Here's another one. Morning, lovely. You'll be pleased to hear I woke at 06:45, came into the living room in my jammies top and bed knickers and did half an hour over sixties exercises. Something I planned on starting in January, but rose to your challenge and started today.
Lise Thorne:Will do it twice a week until I can do it every day. Until I'm not Oh, I'm not allowed to say that. So thank you. And another one. I walked for thirty minutes today after listening to your podcast on Apple.
Lise Thorne:I was once an avid hiker, and for the last year, I just haven't felt like me. Thank you. Honestly, I cannot tell you how much these messages mean to me. So please drop me an email, leave me a voice recording, send me a comment on Instagram. I live for your feedback about how small changes are making your lives better, and I just love us women.
Lise Thorne:And here's one voice message that really grabbed me from the lovely Kim. Thank you. Morning, Lisa. I absolutely took on
Kim:your challenge, and I did more walking. So if I could do extra, whether it be on my walking pad or if I had to go to shop, I left the car at home, I added in an extra walk every single day just because I love walking.
Lise Thorne:So good luck with this week's challenge, and don't forget to share how you get on. All the links you need to do so are in the show notes, and you could always email me at walkingthisway@hotmail.com. I'm back in a week's time for the main show when I'll be joined by the lovely Adrienne, and we'll be talking all things Christmas. Love you, rock stars.
