Charted

What is Charted?

Like a master surveyor, Jesus gives us clear directions to find a fulfilling, purpose-filled relationship with Himself - a map to the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Charted is a daily devotional written by the junior class at Fountainview Academy (Class of 2019). Based on the book Steps to Christ, this book explores the path to the Originator and Provider of Genuine Joy. We don't have to be confused about the way. The certainty is in the journey: divinely Charted.

Thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of
nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and
poor, and blind, and naked. – Revelation 3:17 KJV
Arriving on the scene, my eyes fell upon the victim: an elderly
man who had been in a motorcycle crash. This is not what I expected.
I leaped out of the ambulance, adrenaline shooting through my veins.
Professional mode kicked in, and I sprang into action.
“Sir? I’m an emergency medical responder. Can I help you?” I
stated in my best EMR voice.
The only response I got was a blank stare. “Eu não consigo te
entender.”
Confused, I looked around for a Portuguese translator. I never
expected that on my first call I would be unable to talk to my patient.
Leaning over the elderly man, I tried using sign language to explain
what we needed to do, but he still didn’t understand. Before the
ambulance headed back to the station, I attempted to determine his
level of pain through the translation of another biker who had recently
shown up.
Puzzlement spread over his features. “Why am I hurt?”
He didn’t even understand his condition! Shaking my head, I
hooked him up to oxygen and began the rest of the assessment. It was
obvious that the man had sustained a shattered arm and numerous
scrapes, but, blinded by shock, he did not even realize his dangerous
and painful condition.
As I gazed at the poor, miserable fellow, my frustration was
turned to empathy. Just like that man, I am often blinded by sin; I don’t
even realize the danger and pain I am in. When Jesus shows up to
help, I deny my injuries and need of His assistance. How fortunate I
am to have a Savior who never gives up! Instead, He hooks me up to
His life-giving oxygen and annoints my eyes with spiritual eye salve so
I can truly see my condition and need of Him.
