They’ve swum oceans, scaled mountains, launched empires, and shattered expectations. But before they did any of it, someone, maybe even themselves, thought: “You can’t do that.”
Hosted by Sam Penny, Why’d You Think You Could Do That? dives into the minds of people who said “screw it” and went for it anyway. From adventurers and elite athletes to wildcard entrepreneurs and creative renegades, each episode unpacks the one question they all have in common:
“Why'd you think you could do that?”
If you’re wired for more, haunted by big ideas, or just sick of playing it safe, this is your show.

Welcome back to the bravery digest on why do you think you could do that podcast? I'm Sam Penny coach for the brave. And today we're not just talking about fear. We're going to turn it into your fuel. Now let's get real. Fear isn't going anywhere. It doesn't matter how much experience you've got, how strong your mindset is or how much you've achieved. Fear still shows up. What separates brave business owners from everyone else? Well,
They don't wait for fear to disappear. They move with it. That's why I created what I call the fear to fuel framework. It's simple, practical, and I use it myself, especially when I'm staring down a tough decision or I feel like that old hesitation starting to kick in. This is how you turn hesitation into motion in three steps. If you can grab a pen and I'll walk you through it.
right now. So the first step is that we label the fear. Ask yourself, what exactly am I afraid of here? Fear thrives on vagueness. The less specific you are, the bigger and fuzzier it feels. So write it down and get specific. Are you afraid of rejection, failure, looking like an idiot, losing money, whatever it is, put it in black and white.
Clarity kills
Now, the second step, flip the frame. Now ask, what does this fear say about what matters to me? Every fear is linked to a value. Fear of rejection, you care about being seen. Fear of failure, you care about high standards. Fear of judgment, you're trying something bold and unfamiliar. It's not weakness.
It means you actually give a damn. Once you see this, you stop beating yourself up for being afraid and you start seeing it as a signal that you're pushing your limits. Now the third step, move anyway. And here's where the magic is. What you do is ask what's one small action I can take right now, even with the fear. Don't wait for confidence.
Don't wait for the fear to vanish, just move. Send the message, make the call, raise your hand. Small steps are still steps. Momentum is what transforms fear into fuel. So here's the challenge for you this week. Think about something that's got you stuck. Run it through the fear to fuel framework. Label the fear, flip the frame, move anyway.
take one brave step today, even a small one, you'll feel the shift instantly. And that's how you build a brave muscle by moving, not waiting. Let me know how you go, send me a story, drop a comment, or just take a second to notice your own progress. Now, before I sign off, let me tee up what's next.
This Thursday, I'm sitting down with Paul Watkins, a guy who's the living, breathing proof that ordinary people can do extraordinary things, both in business and in life. From business leadership to mind-blowing adventures, Paul's story is all about staring fear in the face and saying, why not me? You do not want to miss this one. I'm Sam Penny, coach for the brave.
