[SPEAKER_02]: This episode is powered by Safety FM.
[SPEAKER_01]: All right, gang.
[SPEAKER_01]: Welcome back.
[SPEAKER_01]: This is the Safety Consultant podcast.
[SPEAKER_01]: The show where I teach you the business of being a Safety Consultant.
[SPEAKER_01]: You're a hood, show the premise.
[SPEAKER_01]: And we're going to continue with our series on getting yourself started, like I mentioned a couple weeks ago about getting a business started, how when I first was looking up the keyword on Google search engine, there was only like 1.5 million people worldwide looking up how to become a consultant and then later on.
[SPEAKER_01]: five, six years later, I do the search again, and it's 15 million people are looking for that same keyword search, and then for safety consultant, it was not even 200,000 people again.
[SPEAKER_01]: And now it's a 1.5 million, so that's a lot.
[SPEAKER_01]: So now I want to see what I can do to help you.
[SPEAKER_01]: I am bringing back just the idea of starting your business.
[SPEAKER_01]: I haven't talked about this in a while in the podcast.
[SPEAKER_01]: So let's bring it back up.
[SPEAKER_01]: I've been doing this cat protest for five years.
[SPEAKER_01]: So I've mentioned it a couple of times within those time periods.
[SPEAKER_01]: Now it's a 2025, almost 2026 version for you guys.
[SPEAKER_01]: So first we talked about getting your foundation set.
[SPEAKER_01]: So first foundation thing that you're looking for is naming, branding, doing your domains, making sure you're ready for that part.
[SPEAKER_01]: So we started doing that first.
[SPEAKER_01]: And then after that,
[SPEAKER_01]: And then when I say we, it's me.
[SPEAKER_01]: I helped you.
[SPEAKER_01]: But that's okay.
[SPEAKER_01]: It makes a lot easier if I say week.
[SPEAKER_01]: Because, honestly, we're doing it together, right?
[SPEAKER_01]: All of us.
[SPEAKER_01]: You, me, everyone listening, her will help me each other out.
[SPEAKER_01]: So there you go.
[SPEAKER_01]: But that's my week.
[SPEAKER_01]: So naming, bringing, domain chat, I'll get in your avatar, securing your online presence, both on Gmail and also which are.com.
[SPEAKER_01]: Then the next
[SPEAKER_01]: Keep in your day job.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's important that while you're building your business and everything else, you're going to get your side hustle on while you're still working so that you could have that little buffer between the feast and famine part of being a consultant.
[SPEAKER_01]: And honestly, it helps you kind of test the waters too.
[SPEAKER_01]: So it's a good way you're doing that.
[SPEAKER_01]: Other parts we're going to go over right now.
[SPEAKER_01]: I promised you last week.
[SPEAKER_01]: I'll teach you guys how to be a recognized expert in your field This one's going to take a little creativity on your part It's also going to be where you're going to have to step out of your comfort zone a little So first thing is you want to get published
[SPEAKER_01]: So publishing doesn't mean you have to be a published author that you end up getting some sort of book deal or something like that.
[SPEAKER_01]: What you're looking for is do some articles in LinkedIn, Facebook post, LinkedIn, it's one of the ones that is let you do long form, form post,
[SPEAKER_01]: So LinkedIn's good for that one.
[SPEAKER_01]: Facebook, short form, posting.
[SPEAKER_01]: You could go ahead and look for journals that you could be EHS writer, environmental health and safety.
[SPEAKER_01]: and as you get published with the journals get published with online publications, that's going to help you build your credentials if you would.
[SPEAKER_01]: And people now can start seeing you in other publications.
[SPEAKER_01]: The other thing is going to be, if you do not have a safety designation, that is important for being a consultant.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's some proof that you have a degree of finishing something up and you've got some backing with some sort of credentialing board.
[SPEAKER_01]: So for me, I am a certified occupational safety specialist cause and then I am a certificate of occupational safety manager, holder,
[SPEAKER_01]: Most of you have heard of certified safety professionals and there's a bunch of others, so you can look up safety designations.
[SPEAKER_01]: If you're in college, three beats designations, whole day long.
[SPEAKER_01]: So definitely get your degree.
[SPEAKER_01]: If you can, you have not that look for a certification that fits in your genre, in your field.
[SPEAKER_01]: The next big thing is to be an authorized OSHA trainer for us in the US.
[SPEAKER_01]: It's a process.
[SPEAKER_01]: So first, if you're in general industry, you know, I'm only in two general industry in construction, but there's four, where you could be an authorized OSHA trainer, one is general industry field, one's construction, one would be maritime, and then another one is disaster site management.
[SPEAKER_01]: You could get your authorization and have to say it that way.
[SPEAKER_01]: You could be authorized to do a 10-30 hour class where you're the instructor.
[SPEAKER_01]: You could also make money for doing that, but it's a process.
[SPEAKER_01]: So, first one is you're going to have to take the OSHA 5-11 for general industry.
[SPEAKER_01]: and OSHA 510 for construction, and actually both of those are going to need a pre-requisite of four years in the business.
[SPEAKER_01]: Don't quote me on that, but check it up real quick on OSHA.gov, OSHA.gov, four slash dreaming.
[SPEAKER_01]: and look for how to become a OSHA instructor authorized and then after you've completed your 510 for construction and your 511 for general industry what you're going to be looking for in the next is the OSHA 501 for general industry and the OSHA 510 for construction.
[SPEAKER_01]: Once you get those, then you are going to be ready as an ocean authorized trainer and then you could host your own 10 and 30 hour training classes.
[SPEAKER_01]: And again, that's going to help you get recognized as an expert because at that point you can start taking your first you could do it on your own.
[SPEAKER_01]: You can host these 10 and 30 hour classes as a way to make money, use your vacation
[SPEAKER_01]: weekend and host your own events.
[SPEAKER_01]: get clients from those events, that's the best way to do it.
[SPEAKER_01]: But OSHA will also list you as an authorized instructor.
[SPEAKER_01]: So you will actually have the backing of OSHA.gov listing out instructors that are authorized on your page, or to say in your back pocket, but you do want to put that on your OSHA, excuse me, your web page.
[SPEAKER_01]: Back links is what it's called.
[SPEAKER_01]: So that helps you too.
[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, what you're going to put on your website, I don't know.
[SPEAKER_01]: I digress a little, but what you're really looking for is you want to put in that your OSHA authorized trainer.
[SPEAKER_01]: So that's what you're looking for.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's me digressing.
[SPEAKER_01]: So anyway, this is also another way for you to be a recognized expert is look for in your industry.
[SPEAKER_01]: Some trade association, especially if you could physically be there, and you could guess speak for those associations, and after you become a guest speaker there, you'll probably have to do it for free, but that's okay.
[SPEAKER_01]: Those associations are looking for some people to help build their brand.
[SPEAKER_01]: And what you'll do is just stick around and talk to some people afterwards.
[SPEAKER_01]: Tell those people on it to check out what you're saying and talk a little bit and find that some more about you.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's going to help you.
[SPEAKER_01]: That's a client base as well.
[SPEAKER_01]: So those things are some of the things that will help you go on truly start becoming a recognized expert in your field.
[SPEAKER_01]: Excuse me.
[SPEAKER_01]: didn't mean to, my bad.
[SPEAKER_01]: So, I gave you a bunch there, so that's enough to kind of chew on digest, go out there and give it a shot, all right, making all these episodes, bite-sized pieces, so you get some work.
[SPEAKER_01]: Everything on the mentioning is also in my seven steps to starting a profitable safety consultant business book That's been out there.
[SPEAKER_01]: So just go to sheldonprimus.com for slash e-book Scandicure code and get your own copy from there.
[SPEAKER_01]: All right, gang.

[SPEAKER_00]: That's a wrap for today's safety show.
