Morgan Teruel meditates on Psalm 72 today, a psalm of prayer for the king’s reign, justice, and righteousness. This psalm highlights the hope for a just ruler who will bring peace and prosperity to the people. Reflect on God's perfect justice and pray for His rule to bring peace to your heart and the world.

Morgan Teruel:

As we continue reading in the Psalms today, join me as we read Psalm 72. Give your love of justice to the king, oh God, and righteousness to the king's son. Help him judge your people in the right way. Let the poor always be treated fairly. May the mountains yield prosperity for all and may the hills be fruitful.

Morgan Teruel:

Help him to defend the poor, to rescue the children of the needy and to crush their oppressors. May they fear you as long as the sun shines, as long as the moon remains in the sky. Yes, forever. May the King's rule be refreshing like spring rain on freshly cut grass, like the showers that water the earth. May all the godly flourish during this rain.

Morgan Teruel:

May there be abundant prosperity until the moon is no more. May he reign from sea to sea and from the Euphrates River to the ends of the earth. Desert nomads will bow down before him. His enemies will fall before him in the dust. The Western kings of Tarshish and other distant lands will bring him tribute.

Morgan Teruel:

The Eastern kings of Sheba and Seba will bring him gifts. All kings will bow before him and all nations will serve him. He will rescue the poor when they cry to him. He will help the oppressed who have no one to defend them. He feels pity for the weak and the needy, and he will rescue them.

Morgan Teruel:

He will redeem them from oppression and violence for their lives are precious to him. Long live the King. May the gold of Sheba be given to him. May the people always pray for him and bless him all day long. May there be abundant grain throughout the land flourishing even on the hilltops.

Morgan Teruel:

May the fruit trees flourish like the trees of Lebanon and may the people thrive like grass in a field. May the king's name endure forever. May it continue as long as the sun shines. May all nations be blessed through him and bring him praise. Praise the Lord God, the God of Israel who alone does such wonderful things.

Morgan Teruel:

Praise his glorious name forever. Let the whole earth be filled with his glory. Amen and amen. This ends the prayers of David's son of Jesse. I love looking at this verse, looking at this whole Psalm, and reflecting on the beautiful, colorful, imaginative language.

Morgan Teruel:

When we look at verses six and seven about, prosperity and flourishing of spring rain on freshly cut grass or showers that water the earth and abundant prosperity until the moon is no more. I think it gives us a really good picture of something that's hard for us to wrap our minds around, but something that God is so capable of. We can't wrap our mind around a time that is just until the moon is no more. We have no, idea of what that would be or how that would look like. But I think that it's beautiful to be able to worship through this psalm and and praise God for beautiful imaginative language that goes beyond what we can understand.

Morgan Teruel:

So as we pray today, let's pray for prosperity. Let's pray for a flourishing that's so beautiful, that's beyond our words. Lord, we thank you for today. We thank you that you are capable of, blessings and riches that are beyond our wildest imagination. God, we couldn't even describe the glories of your riches if we wanted to, but we get a picture here in this Psalm of how you're you're refreshing like spring rain on freshly cut grass, or you can flourish and provide abundant prosperity until the moon is no more.

Morgan Teruel:

So, Lord, would you do that? Would you meet us where we are today? And would you show us just who you are and what you're capable of? That we might lean more into you, trusting you and walking with you today. Amen.
