In honor of Black History Month, we'll talk about a black nurse who applied to work with Florence Nightingale. Mary Seacole was another nurse who attended to soldiers in the war. Because she was from the West Caribbean and Jamaica, she had a lot of herbal medicine knowledge and so she made her way to the Crimean War independently and was known for saving and helping heal a lot of the soldiers. In 2004, the United Kingdom named Mary Seacole to the Order of Merit and was named the most influential black Briton.
