Life After 50: Discover God's Direction for You in This New Season

Have you ever found yourself saying, “God, I don't know what to do next”?
Maybe the life you thought you would have after 50 doesn't look anything like the life you're living now. You may be dealing with a major transition, loss, financial uncertainty, loneliness, retirement, relationship changes, or simply wondering where God is leading you in this new season.
And when everything feels uncertain, trusting God can be difficult.
In this episode, we're having an honest conversation about how to trust God when you don't know what to do next. Because trusting God doesn't mean you have all the answers. It doesn't mean you're never afraid or confused.
Sometimes trusting God simply means saying, “Lord, I don't understand what You're doing, but I'm going to trust You with my next step.”
We'll talk about how to stop feeling like you have to figure out your entire future and instead learn to seek God for the next step He wants you to take.
If you're in a season where you're asking, “God, what's next for me?”, this episode is for you.
In This Episode, We Talk About:
  • Why it's difficult to trust God when your life feels uncertain
  • Why being confused doesn't mean you've lost your faith
  • How to be honest with God about your fears and disappointments
  • The difference between what you feel and what you know about God
  • Why you don't need to know God's entire plan before taking your next step
  • How to surrender the things you cannot control
  • What to do when you're praying but God seems silent
  • How to seek God's direction when you're entering a new season after 50
  • Why your current circumstances don't mean God is finished with you
  • How to focus on your next step instead of worrying about your entire future
A Question to Think About
Instead of asking:
“God, what is going to happen to me?”
Try asking:
“God, what is my next step?”
You may not have answers for the next year, the next five years, or even the next few months.
But God can give you enough direction for today.
Scriptures Mentioned
Proverbs 3:5–6
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart…”
Psalm 32:8
“I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go…”
Isaiah 41:10
“Fear thou not; for I am with thee…”
Isaiah 40:31
“But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength…”
Psalm 34:18
“The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart…”
Your Next Step
Take a few quiet minutes today and ask God:
“Lord, what is my next step?”
Don't ask Him to show you everything.
Don't worry about figuring out your entire future.
Just ask Him to show you what He wants you to do next.
Then listen.
And when you recognize the next step, trust Him enough to take it.
A Prayer for This Season
Father,
I don't know what my future looks like, and honestly, sometimes that scares me.
There are things happening in my life that I don't understand. There are things I wish You would change, and there are answers I've been waiting for.
But today, I choose to trust You.
Help me stop trying to figure everything out on my own. Give me wisdom to know what I should do next and the courage to take that step.
When I feel afraid, remind me that You are with me.
When I feel lost, remind me that You can direct my path.
When I feel like it's too late for me, remind me that You are not finished with my story.
I give You my fears, my questions, my future, and my next step.
In Jesus' name, Amen.

What is Life After 50: Discover God's Direction for You in This New Season?

Have you ever looked around at this season of life and thought, "Okay God... now what?"

Maybe the kids are grown. Maybe your career looks different than it used to. Maybe your body doesn't move the way it did, your role has shifted, or you're just not sure who you're supposed to be anymore now that so much has changed. If you've ever felt unseen, unsure, or like life after 50 was supposed to come with more clarity than it has — you're not alone, and you're in the right place.

What this podcast is about:
Life After 50 is a Christian podcast for Women Over 50 offering weekly conversations on faith, finding God's purpose, moving into this new season with honesty and in the direction, He has for you. Each episode digs into what it really looks like to trust and move with God — not the everything's-fine version of faith, but the honest, real, sometimes-messy kind. We talk about purpose in midlife, identity, waiting on God, trusting Him with what we can't understand, and finding God's direction when the road ahead isn't clear yet.

Why it's for you:
This isn't a podcast about pretending you have it all figured out. It's for the woman who's tired of performing "okay" and ready to bring her real questions, real doubts, and real heart to God. Whether you're an empty nester, navigating retirement, or simply asking "what's my purpose or what's the next step Lord" this show was made with you in mind. You're not behind. You're not forgotten. And you're definitely not the only one still asking these questions.

How it will help you:
Every episode gives you more than encouragement — it gives you practical, faith-based steps for women to actually walk away with. Real ways to bring honest feelings to God. Scripture for hard seasons and reminders of what you know to be true about Him, even when circumstances say otherwise. And tangible tools for trusting God through uncertainty and finding hope in midlife. This is a space to process, grow, and be reminded that this season — however uncertain it feels right now — still has purpose.

So, if you're a woman ready to stop pretending, start trusting, and discover God's calling for this new season... pull up a seat. Let's walk through this together.

Have you ever had a season where it feels like everything is falling apart at the same time? If you're anything like me, the answer to this question is YES! In all caps. I mean you’re sitting there looking at your life and thinking, God, I don't know what I'm supposed to do next, you got to help me. How do I trust you when I don't understand what you’re doing?"

(INTRO)

Hey friend, welcome back to the show. I'm so glad you're here.
If this is your first time joining me, we're doing one thing — discovering God's direction for you in this new season. Not the season you used to be in. Not the season you thought you'd be in. The one you're actually in right now.

Today we're talking about what trusting God really looks like when your life doesn't look anything like you thought it would. So, grab your coffee, get comfortable, and let's get into it.

Acknowledge the Reality — "Sometimes Life Really Does Fall Apart:

Being a Christian doesn't mean life won't hurt. Believers face deep pain, broken relationships, illness, and severe loss just like anyone else. Faith can feel weak or quiet during these hard moments, and it is honest to admit that life can get very heavy.

You can love God and still be disappointed.
You can trust God and still be afraid.
You can have faith and still cry.
You can believe God is good and still say, "God, I don't understand this."
That doesn't make you a bad Christian.

It’s normal to feel overwhelmed, exhausted, and confused about why these things are happening.

The First Step: Stop Pretending You're Okay

Sometimes we think trusting God means pretending everything is fine.
But Scripture gives us examples of people who cried out to God.

David questioned God while he was on the run for his life.
Job questioned God about losing his whole family and living with a disease.
Jeremiah experienced deep discouragement, anxiety and depression concerning his calling.
Jesus Himself wept over the death of friend Lazarus.

And there’s so many other examples in the bible. They were all humans just like we are.

Psalm 34:18 - "The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed."

The Lord was with all of them no matter the situation. And He is with you too.
God isn't asking you to hide your pain from Him.
Trust begins with honesty.
You can tell Him:
"God, I'm scared."
"God, I'm disappointed."
"God, I don't know what to do."
"God, I don't understand why this is happening."
And still trust Him.

Listen, God is not scared of your questions, in fact He wants you to come to him, talk to him, share with him what’s on your heart. Cause guess what He already knows.

Psalms 139: 1-4: O’Lord, you have examined my heart and know everything about me. You know when I sit down or stand up. You know my thoughts even when I’m far away. You see me when I travel and when I rest at home. You know everything I do. You know what I am going to say even before I say it.

So why are you hiding.

The Second Step: Separate What You Know From What You Feel:

When life falls apart, feelings and emotions tend to rise.

You may feel:
• "God has forgotten me."
• "I'm on my own."
• "Nothing is ever going to change."
• "My best years are behind me."
• "Maybe God doesn't have anything else for me."

Feelings are real—but not always factual.

So, ask yourself:
"What do I KNOW about God even though I don't understand my circumstances?"

Well,

I know God is faithful.
I know God sees me.
I know God hasn't abandoned me.
I know God can lead me even when I don't know the way.
I know God provides for me.
I know God makes a way out of situations, even when I don’t see it.

Proverbs 3:5–6
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take."

Trusting God doesn't mean understanding the entire road.
It means trusting the One who knows the road.

The Third Step: Don't Demand the Whole Plan—Ask God for the Next Step:

When everything is falling apart, we often want God to give us the five-year plan.
But sometimes God gives us today's step.

I ask God just about every morning, "God, what do You want me to do today?

What's on your agenda today, Lord? Now I know I have my own agenda for the day, but I wait to hear from the Holy Spirit before I move. Sometimes He’ll tell me right then, but other times it’s when I’m going on with my day that he’ll tell me to do something.

Maybe your next step is:
• Make the phone call.
• Have the difficult conversation.
• Apply for the job.
• Start taking care of yourself.
• Forgive someone.
• Rest.
• Go back to church.
• Open your Bible.
• Ask for help.
• Let go of something God is asking you to release.

Psalm 32:8 - "The Lord says, I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you"

We only know in part. If we knew the whole picture, I think our heads would pop off. You don't need to know everything to take that step.

The Fourth Step: Trust God With What You Cannot Control:

I don’t know about you, but I get exhausted trying to control just one situation much less every one of them. It just wears me out. I have learned this the hard way and maybe this will help you.
You cannot control:
• Other people's decisions
• The past
• How quickly circumstances change
• What someone else chooses to do
• Everything that happens financially
• Whether someone understands you or not
• Exactly when God will answer

But you can control your response.
You can pray.
You can seek God.
You can make wise decisions.
You can take the next step.
You can refuse to let fear make every decision for you.

Key statement:
"Sometimes trusting God means releasing the need to know how everything is going to work out."

What If God Doesn't Fix It the Way I Want?

Sometimes we trust God because we believe He will give us what we want.

But biblical trust goes deeper.

"God, I trust You even when Your answer isn't the answer I wanted."

This doesn't mean you stop praying.

It means your relationship with God isn't dependent on getting your preferred outcome.

Isaiah 41:10 - "Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God."
Focus on "I am with you."

Sometimes God's greatest reassurance isn't:
"I'm going to explain everything."

It's:
"I'm going to be with you while you walk through it."

When You Feel Like God Is Silent:

"Have you ever prayed and prayed and wondered, 'God, are You even listening?'"

Silence does not automatically mean absence.
Not hearing an answer doesn't mean God isn't working.
Not seeing movement doesn't mean nothing is happening.

Isaiah 40:31- "But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint."

Waiting is an active form of Faith.
So, while you're waiting:
• Keep praying.
• Keep seeking God.
• Keep listening.
• Keep doing what you know is right.
• Don't make permanent decisions based on temporary fear.

A Simple "Trust God" Practice for the Listener:

Here are 3 Trust God Questions when you’re feeling overwhelmed:

1. What am I afraid of right now?
Be honest.
2. What do I need to give to God?
Name it specifically.
3. What is the next step God is asking me to take?
Think about it.
Then pray:
"God, I don't understand everything that's happening, but I choose to trust You with what I cannot control. Show me my next step and give me the courage to take it." Amen

Encouragement for the Woman Who Thinks It's Too Late:

Maybe you're looking at your life and thinking, 'How did I get here? This isn't where I thought I'd be at this age. Believe me, I understand what you’re feeling.

But here this, your current situation is not proof that God is finished with you.
This season may be uncomfortable.
It may be painful.
It may be unfamiliar.
But unfamiliar doesn't mean purposeless.
You may not be starting from scratch.
You may be starting from experience.
God can still give you direction.
God can still give you purpose.
God can still use your life.
God can still show you what your next step is.

Closing:

You may not know how this situation is going to work out. You may not know what your next year will look like. You may not even know what your next month will look like. But you can trust the God who already knows.

Your job isn't to figure out the entire road. Your job is to stay close to God and take the step He gives you.
