Speaker 1:MSU Young Americans for Freedom hosts Alicia Cross for Lies of the Left event. The Michigan State University chapter of the young Americans for freedom welcomed conservative commentator Alicia Cross on campus Monday evening for their lies of the left event held in Wells Hall. The discussion, had more than 30 attendees, spanned a wide range of topics, each of which Cross framed as an example of left leaning claims. Security for the event was moderate with several police officers from Department of Police and Public Safety present along with members of MSU Security and Cross's personal security team in attendance. Attendees were required to have a ticket and undergo screening with a handheld metal detector before entering.
Speaker 1:Ty Bombarto, a member of MSU's chapter of Turning Point USA, said Cross is a good example of young conservatives making a difference by having events like Monday's evenings. A music feature, matriarchs of music, Joanne Jett. For decades and decades, women have been influencing our world of music, spanning many genres from folk to rock. These powerful women have never ceased to amaze societies globally. Today, we're here to discuss arguably the most influential woman in the rock category, the queen of rock, Joanne Jett.
Speaker 1:Joanne Jett, born Joanne Mary Larkin, first started her musical journey at the young age of 13. It was at this age that she had received her first guitar and began to learn her the strings. However, her coach only taught her folk songs and caused Joanna quit. It wasn't long until she picked it back up, but this time she wanted more than folk. She wanted an upbeat, loud, and rowdy sound.
Speaker 1:At 16 years old, Joanna founded her all girl band, The Runaways. They're known most for their hit song Cherry Bomb and You Drive Me Wild. Joanne was the guitarist of the band, occasionally throwing in some vocals. Then in 1977, the band began touring globally. They opened for popular bands like Van Halen, Ramones, Cheap Trick, and Tom Petty, and the Heartbreakers.
Speaker 1:The band was able to gather a lot of popularity in Europe, Australia, Canada, South America, and Asia, especially Japan. However, they had struggled to find success in The United States. After releasing a grand total of five albums, the band disbanded in 1979. Number nine Michigan State set for a second round matchup against Wake Forest. In East Lansing, number nine Michigan State squares off against Wake Forest in the second round of the NCAA tournament on Thursday at 6PM at DeMartin Stadium.
Speaker 1:The Spartans look to clinch a spot in the sweet 16 for the third consecutive year. This will be the second time that Michigan State battles against the demon Decans, where Wake Forest prevailed four one in East Lansing in a non conference matchup in 2017. Number nine, Michigan State will look to advance to the sweet 16 at home. Kickoff is slated for 6PM on ESPN plus.
