Welcome to Day 113 of Reading the Bible Cover to Cover in 365 days!

Let us pray:

O Lord, thank You for the wisdom in Your Word. Help us receive the message You have for us today. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Let’s see what’s happening in Matthew chapter 24!
Jesus talks about the end times. Some of my takeaways are:
Be prepared. We need to continue to prepare our hearts and minds, so they are more like Christ. There is no time to take a vacation from God. We are to remain vigilant in our pursuit of Him, for many will be led astray. From Jesus’ discussion it seems we may be just at the beginning of the end times. Generations have thought they were living in the end times, but I think there is still time left. In verse 22 Jesus said, “And if those days had not been shortened, no human being would endure and survive, but for the sake of the elect (God’s chosen ones) those days will be shortened.” This tells me that we aren’t there yet. The worse that will happen is still yet to come. Many of us are still comfortable in our homes, we have the freedom to worship, and we haven’t been faced with the worst imitators of Christ yet. But those days are coming. So, let us continue pursuing God and pursue a heart that can withstand the last days if they should come in our lifetime.
We can look forward to Christ coming “as the lightning flashes from the east and shines and is seen as far as the west.” We can look forward to Him descending from the sky and His angels gathering His people. Let us remain vigilant so we are called His forevermore.

Let’s see what Paul writes Titus in chapter 2!
There are lots of nuggets of wisdom in this chapter.
Paul tells Titus to teach the people to be self-controlled, patient, not slaves to alcohol.
He gives separate instructions for men, women, young men, and bondservants. All of his advice is sound and could be taken by us as well.
It may seem difficult to follow all of it, but in verse 12 he says, “For the grace of God (His unmerited favor and blessing) has come forward (appeared) for the deliverance from sin and the eternal salvation for all mankind.”
We have help to follow Paul’s advice. In fact, he writes God’s grace helps us to reject ungodliness and live upright, spiritually whole lives. Let us lean into the Lord and allow His Holy Spirit to lead and guide us into Godly living.

Let’s see what’s happening with the Israelites in Judges chapter 15!
Samson sought to reconcile with his wife, but she had been given to his best friend. So, he took revenge on these people and sent foxes with their tails as torches through the fields of grain and burnt up their fields.
The Philistines wanted revenge on him, so dispersed themselves within the tribe of Judah. They told the tribe to apprehend Samson and bring him to them. So, the tribe went after Samson, put him in ropes, and delivered him to the Philistines. But the Lord was with Samson. The ropes disintegrated around him, and he killed 1000 men with the jawbone of a donkey. The Lord supernaturally provided water for him to revive him after this great battle. We read Samson defended the Israelites for twenty years.

In chapter 16 we read about Samson’s demise. He fell in love with Delilah who was bribed with lots of money to find out why Samson was so strong. After 3 failed attempts, he tells her his strength lies in his hair. For love and for money, this tragic story is told. However tragic it is for Samson he prays for strength one last time and brings down a building that housed three thousand Philistines. They all perished along with Samson. And we read more were killed in this one incident than those he killed in the previous twenty years.

Psalm 113 is a psalm of praise to the Lord. The psalmist gives the Lord credit for everything under the sun. In verse 7 and 8 he writes the Lord lifts up the poor and needy, “that He may seat them with princes, even with the princes of His people.” Yes, the Lord cares for all people, including the poor. We can be thankful that the Lord doesn’t require us to acquire riches before He showers us with His grace. I know I certainly am. Verse 9 is underlined in my Bible and says, “He makes the barren woman to be a homemaker and a joyful mother of [spiritual] children. Praise the Lord! (Hallelujah).” The Lord has a plan for each of us. We are made for His purpose. We are seen by Him. He knows our hearts because He made them, and He will give us the desires of our hearts as we seek Him.

Let us pray:
O Lord, thank You for teaching us more about You and Your ways. May we seek You and love You with our whole hearts. Keep us Yours, Father. In Jesus’ name, amen.
